Whoops...[edit]
I sort of realised that once I finished the vandal-binning and then read recent changes. Sorry! --PsyGremlinWhut? 12:52, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- I kind of sucked at regex, the account should never have been created. - π 12:53, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
Intercom[edit]
WTF, that green is too dark, why can't it just be "new messages" orange? Also, weird, the "Editing User talk:Π (new section)" is in a serif font... you guys having fun? ħuman 04:10, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- The you have new messages is green? Actually I don't like the serifs much, I might make it straight times. - π
- That is just the testing of the intercom groups. I think the idea was to have different colours for different groups. Any requests? - π 04:14, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, use one color and keep it light. If you want to try something like that, at least bring it up at the Saloon? I don't think we see enough messages to care what group they are from (they say it in text anyway, right?) ħuman 04:16, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Do a forced refresh now. - π 04:17, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- yeah, way to dark. Ace McWickedi9 04:20, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Even the blue? - π 04:20, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yes. You gotta try to stay lighter than a0a0a0 or so in order for black text to be easy to read. Why not use the pastel colors on the main page, for a weird kind of internal site consistency? ħuman 04:42, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Nice work[edit]
You know what I mean. "What is a RationalWiki article?" Etc. Very well done. ħuman 05:01, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Ultimate Proof of Creation[edit]
Thank you for 'splodin my as. I hate these assholes and their corrupt, confused writing, and their fucking lame god, and their wrecking of science, and worse yet warping of young minds how can we stop them? ħuman 07:11, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
vandal[edit]
I dont why I keep getting hit with that vandal. Very weird. Ace McWickedNecron99 02:36, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

The hunt[edit]
I dont know if your a Melbournite or a Sydneyite (is there anything else aside from Perth and desert?) but I'll be in Melbourne in a few weeks if you wanna help me and Rad McCool track down PJR. Ace McWickedNecron99 01:44, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Not a Melbournite, but not that far from that den of inequity either. I am quit busy at the moment, but a hunt could be fun. - π 01:47, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- I am sure if we asked PJR nicely he'd be cool with a meet and a chat. That is until Rad McCool vomits on his shoes. Ace McWickedNecron99 01:52, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Doesn't sound like a hunt as such. - π 02:03, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Just wait my friend. When he tries to run, we'll give him a 30 sec headstart. Then the hunt is on. But seriously, a mini-meet of RW users could be laugh. Ace McWickedNecron99 02:06, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Okay if you email me details, I'll see; I do live a few hundred kilometres and the lecturing term is back on, but a weekend in Melbourne would be fun. - π 02:11, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ah yup will do Ace McWickedNecron99 02:16, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- I dont think PJR will wanna see me anymore after I called his bum-buddy Sarfati a "moron". A shame really. Ace McWickedModel 500 03:38, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think it ironic that he defends Sarfati's intelligence on the basis that he has a PhD, given the number of PhD's that would disagree with him. - π 03:41, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Fuck You, You Fuckin' Fuck.[edit]
Your fuckin' bot fuckin' put the fuckin' banhammer on me--and every other fuckin' editor--when I was fuckin' busy' doing a whole fuckin' series' of fuckin' edits and cost me valuable fuckin' minutes of fuckin' time. So I got your fuckin' "sense of huomour (sic--while you're at it, learn to fuckin' spell) RIGHT HERE!. (seriously though, I de-sysopped the bot because I didn't see you online and since the blocks didn't show up in the Recent Changes, I thought something was wonky. No biggy, really. Figured you'd re-boot the bot if everything was cool.)TheoryOfPractice (talk)
- Sorry. I might make a whitelist to exclude people from being blocked by the bot is if they look busy. - π 02:46, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- Or how about just not doing it any more? It's not funny the second time, and can really inconvenience people. Usually "fun" blocks are between people who are playing, you just blocked every sysop regardless of what they might be doing. PS, you can't tell if you're inconveniencing someone by looking at their recent activity. They might be in the middle of a big (or several big) edit with no apparent activity up to then. Why not create PiRogueSysopBot to play these games, you really shouldn't degrade Pibot's rep as a very useful tool. ħuman 03:02, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Your additions to common.css[edit]
Unfortunately I had to remove them, as the new rules don't allow that kind of thing. Nx (talk) 23:05, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- Don't worry; you can re-add your modifications; Jeeves doesn't care about that anymore. Now you need to change your sig, since he's decided that you need to have a sig that makes it clear who you are. Anyway, it's quarter past twelve, so I'm going to bed now. Evil time Hoover! 23:17, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
BoN block[edit]
yeah, the block was a bit late.
the guy'll be back though. SJ Debaser 13:08, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- If you block him for 6 hours, he will be back in 6 hours. Blocking is almost completely pointless. Vandal bin the IP if you like though. - π 13:11, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- PS It wasn't funny, it was extremely childish. - π 13:15, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think I'm the man for that job - probably why I'd be a shit bureaucrat. It was childish, but you're forgetting I'm a childish guy.

- I understand. I've only been here four months and it's taken other people over a year to become crats. SJ Debaser 10:00, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- The time it takes is relative depending on the person. Don't sweat it. There is no magic hierarchy we are a mob. It took me several months to become a sysop back in the day. - π 10:05, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yay, mob! Only took me four days to become a sysop - crazy. Thanks for making me a vandal... what exactly does that entail? SJ Debaser 12:20, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks[edit]

Global blocking script[edit]
I saw your "Gift to TK" as the global blocking script. Perhaps it will be even funnier if you remind him to unblock himself afterwards. [[User:K61824|]][[User_talk:K61824|]] 12:38, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- TK all alone on his wiki. I think he would enjoy that. - π 12:41, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- Barring Andy calling the maintanence crew to unblock himself, but we aren't sure whether Andy have such intelligence to do so. [[User:K61824|]][[User_talk:K61824|]] 12:52, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Bot division of labor?[edit]
(This has nothing to do with last night's mayhem...)
I have been thinking for a while that you might want to "split up" pibot into several separate baramins. EG, take the talk page archiver and call it pitalkpagebot, piarchivebot, or some such, the part that handles the wigo pages piwigobot, etc. Then keep using the "main" pibot as a sandbox, test bed for new bot functions, etc.? ħuman 00:48, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- Interesting suggestion. I'll have to see what is doable now that the main archiving script is on the server so that it runs the same time every day. - π 04:44, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Arthur birther[edit]
That's funny, that there is, I don't care who you are, that there is funny. ħuman 08:16, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Calling Nutty Roux a fuckwit is out of line. It was probably just an honest mistake. SJ Debaser 12:19, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

- Oh, you're right , I can never stay mad at you!

- Ahh... ya smell that? SJ Debaser 12:25, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- I wonder how many of those I can get on one page at a time? - π 12:26, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- A lot? Generally I don't like to use it more than once on one user, as I feel it's a weak joke anyway without wearing it down on the same person over and over and over and over and over... SJ Debaser 12:38, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- That is what I was thinking. I have to earn having your farts in my user space and threads are archived after 28 days; so the question is what is my best strategy of behaviour to get you to fart in my user space the maximum number of times in a 28 day period? - π 12:41, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- You want lots of farts now? I originally pledged to avoid your userspace after you got pissed off with me that one time! No one ever visits my userspace enough for me to use your Pibot. I ususally fart as a gesture of friendship to another user, or if the topic discussed is worthy of lulz. SJ Debaser 12:47, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Well if you are going to make it hard for me to earn them, of course I want them. Its called scarcity. Andy is giving a course on economics, you can learn about it there. Have you considered enrolling? I have a nice clean IP address and I was thinking of signing up. - π 12:51, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- I've been blocked loads of times by TK and whoever and the moment they expire and I get an account he re-blocks me. I will try however. SJ Debaser 12:55, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Usually if you are persistent enough you get range blocked. You either are lucky or have a big range and are hard to hit. - π 12:58, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- I've only actually properly vandalised Conservapedia once a couple of weeks ago. All time before that I was just trying to argue with them on talk pages. However, I'm getting a Macbook soon so I should have a new IP on that, then I can learn Andy's trustworthy economics. SJ Debaser 13:11, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Your IP is issued by your net provider, not your computer. You will get a different something else number, can't remember its name off hand, it is based on your OS and web brower. If you can get a new IP, say library, internet cafe (see if you can find a coffee shop with a free wireless hotspot) you can run two different accounts at the same time. Not only will the IPs be different so will the other thing number. - π 13:15, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think you're referring to the MAC address which depends on the network card. It actually stands for Media Access Control and is nothing to do with Apple. Lily Inspirate me. 13:20, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- MACs only show up on LANs, you can't see them on the internet. I'll try to remember, Nx would know. - π 13:22, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

I request assistance kind sir. I want my signature talk page link to read a different wacky quote on each different signing that some other users such as yourself have. Sysoping[edit]
On their first day with almost no edits? Hmmmm Ace McWickedModel 500 03:30, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- Hey I thought I would help with his security hole problems. - π 04:20, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- I find that action and explanation very weak, especially from the guy who wants to stop anonymous toreditors from contributing ever again. ħuman 04:26, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- Hey it is the sysops that are the security holes. The hole is in Special:block, every sysop we have is a hole in our security at the moment. He asked for me to create one, so I did. - π 04:39, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- There seems to be a misunderstanding here. The error in Special:Block is that the username is unescaped. I.e. if the username is a script tag, the javascript inside it will be executed. This will only affect your computer, not the server. But MediaWiki does not allow < and > in usernames, for this very reason, so the only way to exploit this is to construct a link (example give on User talk:Tmtoulouse#XSS vulnerability in MW1.14). It's unlikely that a sysop would click such a link. I'd say we have more to worry about a sysop inserting malicious stuff into Common.js (plus the hole is patched). -- Nx / talk 07:03, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- I was playing with our security obsessed new visitor. I was amazed that the guy was worried about Tor stealing passwords, given that they are sent in clear text you have a lot more to worried about in that department. - π 09:08, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- They are sent in clear text so people could get them even without using Tor? I don't get it. You must tell me. I have a wiki or two and I am only concerned for the children that may hurt themselves trying to edit it, if I do not give them the proper instructions. Lumenos (talk) 08:06, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Human, addressing your concerns that I am "the guy who wants to stop anonymous toreditors from contributing ever again". I'm not sure why you believe that.I don't know much about any of this. I wanted to vote for allowing TOR as the most cautious, experimental way possible (so that anyone could agree that that would be better than not allowing TOR) but I due to a condition I have (the medical description is "dorkiness") I didn't realize that it was already in use here, so I probably should have just shut up but someone made it sound like polls were closing and I reacted quickly. Lumenos (talk) 04:27, 19 August 2009 (UTC) - I don't know if I deserve to be sysop or not. I was going to work on my latest (ridiculous) multiconditional vote for TOR but now I guess I'll be answering concerns about this. Lumenos (talk) 04:27, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Pibot reactivated[edit]
I've reactivated Pibot. He's supposed to run at around 6:25 + random time the ubuntu update script waits to not overload ubuntu's servers with everyone's machines trying to update at the exact same time (that could be anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour). That should be 2 hours from now. -- Nx / talk 08:25, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- Won't it archive most of the site? - π 08:26, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- I checked everything that links to talkpage/pibot: Nutty Roux's and Gooniepunk's talk page will be archived, although it will leave a few threads depending on the settings. I've replied to Technical support where I don't want it to archive a few sections, the rest can go. You might want to continue the Pictures section on Talk:Main Page to prevent archiving. -- Nx / talk 08:33, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Do you care to do this one? Or suggest someone who knows more about biology to do it? Maybe TimS? Sterile mitten 02:09, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
- Weird, it is a lot like the other one. Several thousand words explaining the current literature full of dates ranging from 400,000,000 to 2 billion year old and then right at the end he declares YECism the winner. The whole paper is pretty much
A team of scientists when they worked at the Institute for Creation Research developed a computer simulation program testing the hypothesis that natural selection could use mutations to fix beneficial changes in the genome while eliminating deleterious mutations and consequently evolving an organism into a new form or kind (Sanford et al. 2008). The results of their simulations with human and yeast genomes demonstrated that selection could remove very few deleterious mutations while selecting for beneficial mutations. A summary of their population simulations revealed the following principles: 1) Deleterious mutations continue to accumulate over time. 2) Selection was unable to separate deleterious mutations from beneficial mutations. Both types of mutations are inherited together. 3) The net effect of mutation is always negative. 4) Because the overall effect is always negative, fitness always declines with time. This results in an increase in genetic entropy or loss of information leading to extinction and not new kinds of organisms or biological systems.
The results of the Sanford et al. work is confirmed by the experimental evidence of antibiotic resistant organisms that lose fitness as mutations accumulate. The proposed “road” to a mitoribosome from a prokaryote ribosome ancestor contradicts the observable and experimental evidence indicating stasis among these important biological machines.
- They seem to define fitness the same way Philip defines information, something that decreases with time. - π 02:19, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
- Here is the Sanford paper. Might be worth reading as it is their entire point. - π 02:22, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

- I honestly think creationist are giving up on the whole pseudoscience and moved into pseudophilosophy. It is all the worldview crap these days. Have you read PZ Myers' tour of the Creation museum? He described a fake dinosaur dig were there are two scientists, one says how he uses evolution view and he sees this a dinosaur that dies 175,000,000 year ago and the other says I use the bible and I see this a dinosaur that died in the flood. They have pretty much admitted that to any objective rational examination evolution is true, but shove the bible in the way and it is clear creationism is. Have you read Small gods? - π 02:25, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
- I read some of PZ Meyers tour stuff, and the longer, more in depth one he linked that had lots of pictures. It is bizarre. I can't say I'm surprised by some of the stuff, however: how many new arguments for creationism can you get at this point?--They've all been recycled ad nuaseum. Creationism lit is more like assignments in a creative writing class: OK, class use this science and the Bible and see how you can get them to mesh. And the cognitive dissonance issues astound me.
- I haven't read Small gods--not sure what this discworld thing is about--I'll have to talk a look. Sterile mitten 02:35, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
- Discworld is a world carried through space on the back of four elephants on the back of a turtle. The whole universe they live in is like that, astrology is a cutting edge science constantly in need of updating as the turtles swim around. Small gods focuses on this monotheistic religion that believes that the world is a globe which revolves around the sun and are enraged by this heretic how went to the edge of the world had a look over, saw the turtle and started to tell everyone about it. There is the fabulous scene in the book where the arch-deacon is explaining to a novice the nature of reality. He explains that even though you might be able to see the turtle it is not really there because the truth is that the world is a globe, he knows this to be the truth because it is written in the holy book. - π 02:42, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

I'm just someone having fun on the page you built. I would hope this would go without saying, but I want to make sure. ħuman 03:47, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- I would rather not have it as "my project", I just wanted to start it off on the right foot this year. I had a read of last years to see what happened and there was a two month gap between "this would be a good idea" and it actually occurring. We only had about 2 days to vote in the end. Don't let my mother henning of it stop the mob creating what they want, just so long as it is not fucking Star Wars themed I won't mind. - π 03:52, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- I don't mind at all if you "mother hen" it. This sort of thing often works best if there is a "mover" behind it. OK, sure, you don't "own" it. But you are the only one offering management-level commentary, everyone else is all "oh, there should be award for clucking, I nominate Chicken!" But mostly what I am saying here is - hey, I don't mind helping sort it out, but please don't let me "take it over". You're doing fine, it's ok to run a wiki-project. Really. Someone has to, or they don't get run. ħuman 03:56, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Thank you! 06:04, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- Err, I didn't mean to block you for infinite, though I really am a fucker. The length I put in was "a infinite." I didn't know that the wiki would parse that differently than "a ham sandwich." My apologies for the inconvenience and for you having to associate with types as unsavory as Ace McWicked. 15:10, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry I didn't notice you message earlier, I always look at the bottom for new messages. That's okay no harm done. - π 03:04, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
