Hi, welcome to RationalWiki. I see you're having fun with RationalWiki:Userboxes. When you want yours personalised, the "Your pithy comment" bit is replaced with whatever you want the box title to read, and the "User foobar" and so forth is replaced with the tags for the personalised userboxes (links to which are on RationalWiki:Userboxes) For example, if you want the box to say you're an atheist (or whatever) you find it in the religion subpage and write "User atheist" in between the brackets. Have a nice stay. SJ Debaser 17:51, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

LOL I thought you were a robot, sorry SuperJosh :) Markedc (talk) 04:06, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Black Holes and MvGroup[edit]

I tried to post this in the Saloon, but i'm still slow at this, and kept getting the "someone else has edited" timeout. so here you go....

Markedc, if you are serious and are at the level of say "I quit thinking about this crap after highschool" like I am, I'd suggest almost anything by BBC Horizion on cosmology. The more recent stuff (within the last 2 years) has really opened my awareness (as it were) to what's out there, what's being said about it, why we are bothering to study it, how much of it is guesses, etc. [mvgroup] is the place to start. Sadly, US has nothing like the BBC. Damn it. :-) EnAttendantGodot2 (talk) 14:38, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
Serious as I can be :). I love learning in general and all kinds of physics blows me away. Can't get enough of it (until I try to tackle an article like JimJames' and feel lost and confused on the more theoretical aspects). I think I have seen some of that groups (MVG) releases, I did not know they had a dedicated site and I am gonna sign up tonight. Generally I want to learn the more advanced and theoretical stuff that has general acceptance in the scientific community taught in a way directed at the general populace. We at least have PBS... Ha... It was a sad day when they cancelled the SSC in my home state of Texas, now those damn Euro bastards have the LHC and we have nothing. I think Neil deGrasse Tyson said something to the effect that it marked the day that the forefront of theoretical physics moved out of the USA. Sad day... Thanks very much for the suggestion :) Markedc (talk) 15:41, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
No Problem, I'm addicted to Docus. The most recent stuff I've seen that you might enjoy is the BBC "Everything and Nothing" shows. they blew me away. Also, on a more "fun" level, Morgan Freeman produced and hosts a show called "Beyond the wormhole", which is pretty basic on the cutting edge stuff, and is a bit flimflam with how much weight they give to various "extreme" theories, but it's still really interesting - especially if you have or are around teens or older adults who would love the "weird and wonderful" in a calm way. Particle physics and modern Astro Physics are too beyond me to actually read about them without banking my head...but to watch about them is pretty cool!. EnAttendantGodot2 (talk) 16:42, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
I will have to give Beyond the Wormhole another chance, I watched the premiere and it seemed a bit theist for me (I just want the science), but of course that episode was about creation. Markedc (talk) 19:05, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
YOu really should. husband and I almost stopped on that one, cause it seemed to be leading to First Cause - but i watched an interview with MF about the show, where the host said "so you believe in god', and he slammed her "where do I say that?" "well, you say you have faith", "yes, faith in humanity and SCIENCE, Science is what drives us now, not a god and certainly not a good of your bible". so, we gave the show a 2nd chance. :-) It's still more touchy feely to me. if you are pressed for time, don't waste your time on it when there are better shows. but it would be VERY good for say, a 60 something parent or grand parent, cause it's pretty accessible, and at the same time "awe inspiring" of "what science is really doing". I don't usually bother to look at deleted oversighted stuff unless something someone says about it sparks may curiosity. I really hope Markedc doesn't have email notification active...--User:Brxbrx/sig 03:06, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
lulz, sorry :). I figured it would be okay considering it is just an IP which is inherently anonymous. Lesson learned. MarkeDC (talk) 03:08, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Sorry if I multiple posted it too, was not trying to force it through. Still catching on to this :-/ MarkeDC (talk) 03:11, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Signature[edit]

Greetings. You currently sign your posts as "MarkeDC", which, unfortunately due to MediaWiki's standards is not your actual username ("Markedc"). If you would like to be renamed "MarkeDC" I'll gladly do it. Until then, however, your signature is incorrect, and that's why it comes up as a red link. Blue (pester) 20:04, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Hmmm So I get a pass for a new username? Can I do 'TheCheat'? =) MarkBotI run on alcohol 22:42, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
