You can be the Prostate Avenger all you want, but I'm the first one to block all 42 sysops, sequentially and alphabetically! Although there was a sort of "what the..." moment when I realized the number came to a perfect 42. --Kels 20:11, 30 January 2008 (EST)

Since you are a doctor[edit]
Visiting your blog, this came to my mind: have you ever followed the adventures of Andrew Chung, MD, on Usenet? I haven't visited newsgroups for a long time, but his case was quite remarkable. He started as a helpful cardiologist in sci.med.cardiology back in the Nineties I think. Then he must have had some traumatic real life happenings and his conversion to a fundamentalist "christian" made things worse. He devised his 2PD diet, which first was "eat two pounds (2PD) of food every day", then became some sign from God (did they eat two pounds of manna when they escaped from Egypt?). While "eat less" may be a reasonable suggestion, he became a pathologic case for you doctors, when confronted on his total lack of understanding of metabolism, nutrition, physiology and physical exercise. Last time I visited newsgroups, he infested and cross-posted on most sci.med and diabetes NGs, lying, converting, talking about thousands of subjects who succesfully tried his diet (and that would be, reasonable people conjectured, the thousands of manna eaters in the Bible), hating all doubters. I guess he is a speaker for some Church and falsifies his qualifications - but he IS (was?) a certified cardiologist anyway. When I was reading both sci.med.* and talk.origins and learned about CP, I almost suggested him to become an editor there. Cheers, Editor at CPBring TK back 10:17, 31 January 2008 (EST)

Fascism[edit]
You, along with everyone else on this site, show a slight misunderstanding of what fascism even is. Why don't you just admit it already - in your opinion, modern conservatism is fascism. DoggedamesP 19:12, 27 February 2008 (EST)
- Actually, B, I don't believe that at all. While I have philosophical disagreements with conservatives, I don't find them to be fascistic at all. And don't fall into the fallacy that fascism and Christianity don't get along. They have cooperated quite nicely wherever fascism has eared its ugly head. PoorEd 19:22, 27 February 2008 (EST)

Just so you know, Bohdan, "fascism" itself is not a definite political philosophy. Rather it is a loose composite of several ideas. Identifying characteristics of fascism are:
- Extreme nationalism. Emphasizing the primacy of the nation-state above all else. Everything else, including morality, is secondary.
- Militarism. Belief that violence, the possession of objects that facilitate violence, and the threat of violence are the best possible response to all conflicts, from those on the interpersonal level to the international scale.
- Death as a means to achieving glory. Death itself is not viewed as significant, only the circumstances of that death: dying on the battlefield, an "honorable death", "dying for your country", a "courageous" or "heroic" death.
- Anti-intellectualism. Oversimplification of all issues into "us versus them", and disrespect and persecution of people who acknowledge the complexity and ambiguity of issues. -- Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 19:48, 27 February 2008 (EST)
- Good list, RA, but you left of the fact that every fascist regime depends on demonizing and scapegoating some group in society for purposes of laying blame for all evils and inventing a threat that justifies spying on anyone the government chooses. PoorEd 21:39, 27 February 2008 (EST)

Although I love the cubic time template thing you built, is there anyway I can talk you into reducing the redundancy a bit? Interesting Data[edit]
I'm very new here, but I have come across something that will hopefully give you a good laugh. I know you and teh Arsefly have had your little tiffs regarding the link between abortion and breast cancer. I also know that the bulk of his argument was that you were an internist (I apologize if I'm mistaken) and that your expertise was not in obstetrics/oncology. However, in a delightful little article explaining the link between the two, he in fact cites an internist to defend his accusations. Seehere. I thought you would appreciate the irony. --Cranial Suppositorypull your head out of your ass 05:06, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

Snus, Dr?[edit]
Specifically, your opinion(s) about the Scandinavian "smokeless tobacco".
I had gotten off of cigarettes in Sept 2007 by using Nicotrol Inhalers, but as they were still under patent (at the time) and (therefore) still Rx only and insurance only covered them for six months (and then only after several PA's), I had to get off of them. Being still a good little nicotine junkie, I used nicotine lozenges for a few months until the cost forced me to American style smokeless tobacco, which brandished the warning that "this product is not a safe alternative to cigarettes! In effect I traded one brand of CA for an'udder...then I heard about snus.
I researched this a bit, snus is produced by "pasteurizing" tobacco (whereas American style is fermented); snus' levels ofnitrosamines (compared to Murkin snuff), leadingsome to conclude that snus might actually be "safe".
The good (by "good" I [of course] mean those ebil drug pushers) people there at Reynold's have brought out Camel Snus, which has nothing whatsoever to do with camel toe (thank the gods), so us Murkins can have ready access to a "safe" nicotine product. 13:20, 12 January 2010 (UTC) CЯacke®
- I'll have to do some reading, but when people ask me, "is nic replacement safe"? I usually ask, "are cigs safe?" Yeah, nic replacement isn't good for you, but it's better than tobacco and may actually help you stop smoking. But I'm not aware that any smokeless tobaccos are OK. Depending on how consumed, smokeless tobaccos cause mouth cancers and all sorts of nastiness.-- -PalMD --Trust me; I'm a doctor 21:36, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Fake wheat allergy?[edit]
Doc, I got this friend who is kind of a hypochondriac. He has self-diagnosed himself with a wheat/gluten (he's not exactly sure) allergy through his own elimination tests. He had an electrodermal analysis done to "confirm" this. He claims that when he eats wheat/gluten that 2-6 days later, if he works out, when he gets out of the shower, sometimes he gets a small rash on his chest/belt line. No one has ever seen this rash in person. Does this type of "reaction" even make sense? He has stopped eating all cereal grains. He's been doing this for over a year now. Do you have any advice (medical or otherwise)? Thanks. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk /Block 21:42, 12 January 2010 (UTC)\
