Wafa Sultan
Inventing "The Other" Islamophobia |
Fear And Loathing |
The real regressives |
Wafa Sultan is the Islamophobic version of Khomeini a Syrian-American doctor. She is known for her absolute loathing towards Islam, which is at the level of Smoloko News' anti-Semitism. She is so bigoted that even Pamela Geller seems sane in comparison.
In her biography, contradictions appear…[edit]
In terms of lies about her past, Sultan is as trustful as Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Brigitte Gabriel, which is already not good news. First, she claimed to have witnessed the machine-gun assassination of her professor, Yusef al Yusef. However, according to a Syrian expatriate who met and got to know the Sultans when they first came to the United States, "There was a professor who was killed around 1979, that is true, but it was off-campus and Sultan was not even around when it happened". Oops. Syrian expatriate Ghada Moezzin, who attended the University of Aleppo in 1979 as a sophomore, told InFocus that she never heard of the assassination. "We would've known about the killing if it had happened," she said. "It would have been big news on campus and I do not recall ever hearing about it." Moezzin, who lives in Glendora, California, added that government security was always present around the university given the political climate in Syria at the time.[1][2][3] Ouch.
Best of: on Hudson New York, Sultan claimed to have "suffered for three decades living under Islamic Sharia". However, since 1949, even before Sultan's birth, none of the political parties in power had shown favor towards Sharia. Many of them were even secular, the current political party in power included...[4]
So...Has Sultan left Islam because lying is haram?[5]
On Islam[edit]
Sultan goes far beyond legitimate criticism of Islam. If you read one of her books, don't expect another Sam Harris or Ali Rizvi, but an even crazier Laura Loomer. She declared, for example: “The Muslim is an irrational creature ruled by instincts. Those teachings have deprived him of his mind, incited his emotions and reduced him to the level of an inferior creature that cannot control himself or react to events rationally.”[6][better source needed]
Yet, on January 10, 2011, Sultan, opposing Ibrahim Ramey, appeared on the RT news show CrossTalk with host Peter Lavelle, where she stated, "I'm not against Muslims, I'm against Islam."[7] Geert Wilders has used the same talking point.[note 1] Sultan has also defended Wilders in court.[9]
Finally, she is admired by well-known crazies and webshites like WND[6], Pamela Geller[10], Geller's friend Robert Spencer (who is just as crazy as her),[11] Sons of Pigs and Apes, and FrontPageMagazine.[12]
More craziness![edit]
Pseudohistory[edit]
Wafa Sultan seems to like pseudohistory. For example, she defended the Europeans' Crusades, claiming that "The crusaders wars about which the professor is talking about — these wars came after the Islamic religious teachings, and as a response to these teachings. This is the law of action and reaction."[13] Truth begs to differ, "Christian knights waged a religious war against the Muslims in Jerusalem in an attempt to reclaim the Holy Land." Seems more like Christian fundamentalism and how Christians wanted to eliminate the infidels.[14]
During a debate, she said, "Why doesn't he (the Islamic cleric) talk about the Muslim conquests that preceded all the wars he was talking about? Why doesn't he mention Tariq bin Ziyyad entered Andalusia with his armies, he said to his people, 'The sea is behind you, and the enemy is in front of you?' How can you storm a peaceful country, and consider all its peaceful inhabitants to be your enemies, merely because you have the right to spread your religion? Should religion be spread by the sword and through fighting?",[15] forgetting that Muslims entered Spain not as aggressors or oppressors, but as liberators.[16][17]
She also went full denialism mode, "Christopher Columbus discovered American[sic] in 1492. America was founded in 1776, approximately 300 years later. You cannot blame America – as a constitution, a regime, and a state – for killing the Indians."[18] Facts prove her wrong, once again.[19][20]
In another debate, she said, "We have not seen a single Jew blow himself up in a German restaurant. We have not seen a single Jew destroy a church. We have not seen a single Jew protest by killing people. The Muslims have turned three Buddha statues into rubble. We have not seen a single Buddhist burn down a Mosque, kill a Muslim, or burn down an embassy. Only the Muslims defend their beliefs by burning down churches, killing people, and destroying embassies.",[21] forgetting the 969 Movement, the Jewish Defense League, Baruch Goldstein[22], and Israel Rubinowits (a 22-year old Israeli who who threatened to blow up the Capitol).[23]
Another double standard…[edit]
In a 2006 Time interview, Sultan described herself as a cultural Muslim who does not adhere to Islam, yet remains associated with the faith through her birth rather than belief; "I even don't believe in Islam, but I am a Muslim."[24] (reminds us of some "cultural Christian"…). Yet, she claimed that there is a battle between the West and Islam, "a clash between a mentality that belongs to the Middle Ages and another that belongs to the 21st century… a clash between civilization and backwardness, between the civilized and the primitive, between barbarity and rationality." Funny, but then again, her rabid Islamophobia reminds us of the anti-Semitism in Europe during the Middle Ages, so, in her logic, she does belong to the Middle Ages.
