Pidgeonhole[edit]

After her last post, I am tempted to pidgeonhole her in the "all balls, no brains" category. Actually, no, I don't think that she's stupid, just... hyperbolic? Ranty? I can't compose a proper description at the moment. The prostitution episode showed a certain cluelessness. In all cases, an example of the fact that "atheist" does not necessarily mean "rationalist" (for the lack of a better word).--ZooGuard (talk) 17:40, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

There's certainly a lot of anger in her writing, which isn't surprising considering her background. I agree that this post is simplistic (not to mention preaching to the converted), but I wouldn't say her general approach is less valid than the snarky and (let's face it) somewhat smug tone used by a lot of other atheist websters, ourselves included.
She reminds me a lot of Maryam Namazie, who also combines a hardline anti-religion stance with hardline feminism. Interestingly they're both apostates from Muslim countries. Balaam (talk) 18:43, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

DMCA blanking[edit]

Per Linode rules, we have to remove the content while this is sorted out. So I've blanked and protected it in the meantime.

I sent full details to Trent, who can send the counternotice.

The site the notice claims we're copying is https://news-protocol.blogspot.com/2013/08/taslima-nasrin.html - and that entire domain has no content visible in the Internet Archive before 28 July 2022. Note that it appears to be a spam blog, full of content from other sites hidden behind CSS. - David Gerard (talk) 21:23, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

What? There's no way that site isn't a spam blog, they copied even the navbar, links back to RW included xD Rabbitseatcarrots (talk) 21:26, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
@David Gerard, it does seem unlikely that this could be a legitimate DMCA request since: 1) Google shows no sites matching excerpts of the text removed from RW. 2) The webpage you cite above now just shows a generic news feed. 3) The website is primarily in the Bengali language, so it's likely someone tried a bogus DMCA just because they didn't like our content. Hmmmm, sounds like somebody is pissed at us! --Luigifan18 (talk) 04:12, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
oh yeah, this is a very simple and obvious DMCA fraud. Trouble is getting action on it - David Gerard (talk) 08:53, 27 September 2022 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Any updates on this? Vee (talk) 07:35, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

@David Gerard It's been over a year, has this issue been resolved yet? Plutocow (talk) 22:51, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
@David Gerard It's almost two years, any updates on this? KarmaPolice (talk) 00:04, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
Ask Trent! - David Gerard (talk) 22:25, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

Was the lawsuit ever resolved?[edit]

The page was blanked in 2022, and since then nothing has happened to it; It hasn't been restored nor straight up removed; What came of the lawsuit? TheOneAndOnlyCirrusMan (talk) 22:45, 18 August 2024 (UTC)

There's no lawsuit for this one. There's only a (frivolous, it only applies to copyright infringement) DMCA take-down notice, a quick taking-down to satisfy the web host, and then an annoying lack of further action (sending a counter-notice and then restoring the page would have been proper to do promptly). As a current board member, I can only echo David Gerard above and say, "Ask Trent!" Problem is, he's only rarely in touch. --ApooftGnegiol (talk) 22:53, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
One must wonder why Trent hasn't appointed someone else for his position given how inactive he is. TheOneAndOnlyCirrusMan (talk) 00:32, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
I think it's because there is no obvious candidate. KarmaPolice (talk) 00:36, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
Why not host an election or something like that if that's the case? It seems to work just fine for getting Trustees appointed. TheOneAndOnlyCirrusMan (talk) 00:37, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
There could be more public discussion, and looking for volunteers. Trent is basically currently listed despite being absent most of the time for years, simply because it seemed better than having no one in the position I suppose, but maybe that's a mistake. Maybe we should label it a "vacant" position until it's filled again for real. --ApooftGnegiol (talk) 10:51, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
Funny thing is, it's not actually taken down, the alleged violations are still being hosted through the page history, which is why the Wikimedia Foundation oversights alleged copyright violations. Technically RW is in violation of the host's TOS, even if the abuse report is horse crap. If there were any legitimacy to the DMCA complaint, RW would be in trouble. 71.208.249.110 (talk) 18:17, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
