"Where is Lawrence Croft, Tomb Raider?"[edit]
What, you mean Nathan Drake? Zero (talk - contributions) 20:06, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
- I thought he meant Brendan Fraser in the The Mummy films? Or maybe he was thinking of Indiana Jones? Reverend Black Percy (talk) 20:31, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
- Nathan Drake is proof that new characters which resemble old ones can work. Larry Croft is meant to discredit the argument that gender is, in most cases, insignificant. If it were, the same people who pushed for gender-swapping would should have no problem with female characters converted into males, since gender isn't important and is like hair color. As this is not true, those who use the "gender is not significant" argument necessarily have double standards. "Larry Croft" is not a reactionary anti-feminist statement, merely one which says that gender is a fundamental aspect of most people's personality. (Sorry, I'm a bit exasperated right now from people's misunderstanding.)
- By the way, my favorite is Tintin, who is from long before video games, and dates back to 1930. Originally it was an anti-communist comic strip, but eventually became a popular adventure comic book series which had nothing to do with politics. --TeslaK20 (talk) 20:39, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
- Ps. I haven't read that saloon bar thread closely, and I didn't agree with your initial post... That being said however, just in case you're not sealioning, but are in fact just genuinely trying to wrap your head around these concepts and just send out some trial baloons... Well, in that case, I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. You're not right because of your pleasant tone, neither are Ikanreed or Weaseloid wrong because of theirs. I just wanted to say that I'm not here to heckle you. We all learn about stuff all the time and everybody can't be expected to be an expert at everything, etc. But if you're genuinely open to just figuring out new things about social justice or whatever, don't get too beat down when people yell. They yell, perhaps rightfully so, at your opinions. That's not the same as them telling at you, the person (even if it can sometimes feel otherwise). Nobody here can know anyone else close enough for that to be warranted. So, what's my point? It's: as long as you are genuinely open to re-evaluating your views on those topics, then being wrong is just fuel for learning and nuancing your view in the long term. I'm not saying all views are equal. I'm not saying you're right. I'm not saying they're wrong. I'm not saying I share your views. I'm just saying, don't get radicalized. Take it in as best you can. And, if you tell me you yourself feel that your own words are beig misunderstood, I believe you. So take it easy, stay humble, prize nuance, admit you're just a student and learn from your mistakes. That's all the deepities I got for now, heh. All the best. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 21:11, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
- I'm just trying to be funny. I know Nathan Drake is more the guy from the Mummy but if I could make anybody smile, its what I wanted. Zero (talk - contributions) 07:34, 29 July 2016 (UTC)
