Permission to deface your image[edit]
Hey there. I want to add a picture to Fun:RationalWiki Rules for Feedback. Your celebration pose is perfect, and I knocked-up this image in order to illustrate the kind of welcome we should give to newbies:
Do you mind if I use this image? The lava in the background is from a CC3.0 image, so I'd have to licence the final image the same way. If you prefer keeping it to the RW licence I could change the background for a public domain image. --Ask me about your mother 12:35, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
- I'd rather keep my own image to RationalWiki, but if the one you've done somehow finds its way onto google or something, no one'll know who I am anyway. Feel free to use it. SJ Debaser 12:56, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
- Cheers. I'll change the background and put it on with the RW licence and a link back to the original. --Ask me about your mother 13:06, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, appreciate it. Good work too - that's what happens to us when we believe in evil, liberal atheist shit. BTW, where are you planning to use it on the site? SJ Debaser 13:08, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
- It'll be in the fun etiquette article linked in the first post n this thread. Your picture has the perfect mix of happiness and suffering, and that's all newbies should experience. (CR) 62.40.36.14 (talk) 13:36, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Who's fighting today?[edit]
I like it. It's almost like a fight card. "In the red corner, wearing red and white trunks....". Aboriginal Noise Oh, what a lovely tea party! 23:58, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Cheers. It seems in the last few months people have been trading insults almost daily, and I thought I'd try and
deliberately make the situations worsehelp resolve the situations by attempting to direct people's attention to them to reach an amicable solution. SJ Debaser 00:28, 26 January 2010 (UTC)- yeah but insulting TK is part of a fun filled, well rounded, day. Acei9 00:31, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

- Followed by "sip beer, feel satisfied, dress, go to work". Acei9 00:35, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- You're a bad influence, Ace. I count seventeen cans and bottles of beer in my room from the last two weeks, and that is almost entirely from before going out. Or maybe that's just the student life. Either way, it's awesome. SJ Debaser 00:39, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thats student life. When I was your age I used to leave empties in the shower cubicle. Acei9 00:40, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- I have found that 25 Bass empties fit perfectly into a milk crate. Milk crates stack very nicely. Scotch handles don't really fit anything well, but six to an office crate works. By the time I bother hauling glass to the dump it looks like Ace was over for the weekend... ħuman 00:47, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think I'm just gonna keep all the empty cans in my room for this semester and take a snapshot of em all when I'm done for this year in June. I did make a good impression in the first week last October when I had a bath (I had a cold) and left three beer bottles behind. SJ Debaser 00:52, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- I came home from work sick today, some kind of cold/cough/headache/whatever but instead of sleeping I am drinking Melchers Dutch GOLD Beer. It kinda tastes funny. Acei9 00:53, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- Luckily I haven't had a cold for months, but when I do, I do the English think and drink heaps of tea. Beer is nice, but it'll be nicer in the hot summer. Assuming we get one this year. And then there's the 2010 RationalWiki summer vacation to think about... so much to plan! SJ Debaser 00:59, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Have you no problems with the way Nx is behaving?[edit]
Why don't you criticise him? Why don't you grow a pair of fucking balls. The man is literally running rampant away from the principles of this site.
- If the principles of this website result in it being dragged into a flamewar every time a troll posts, and good contributors (you know, the kind who actually improve the content of our articles, not just discuss what they had for breakfast) leave because of this, then those principles can go to hell. -- Nx / talk 16:31, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- Nx deals primarily with the design, coding, programming, etc of this website and his does a brilliant job on it. Except for one instant where he used checkuser on a suspected account and announced his findings, which was admittedly stupid, I see nothing wrong with his actions here. If it wasn't for him, you probably wouldn't be able to edit here. SJ Debaser 16:29, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

BUY MY NEW BOOK[edit]
Natural Fart Cures They Don't Want You To Know About for only $65.99. It tells you all the different ways to cure unwanted gas attacks. For example, in chapter 5, I discuss how eating a diet of garlic and tobassco sauce will greatly reduce the instance of the dreaded silent-but-dealy fart. In chapter 1, we discuss how beans (yes, beans) will cure most farts by the laws of like treats like. And, for a measly $100.00 more, I will throw in a bottle of CureAll. CureAll is a homeopathic substance that will cure everything. Bottom line: Buy my new book and a bottle of CureAll! DOn't miss this great offer!!! Head stuck in the stairs?[edit]
Sounds like there should be a funny story behind that one. --Ask me about your mother 22:12, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
- Basically, I'm an idiot and from time to time I get my head gets stuck in the banisters of various stairs I come across. Not too bad when this happens in the privacy of my own home, but in public it can be an embarrassing scenario. In my house there's an emergency protocol for this situation, which involves a large bucket of grease to lubricate my head in order to get it out of the banisters. This happens on average once or twice a month, so there's a rota for my housemates of who has to grease up my head each time it happens. I also have to keep my hair cut relatively short to stop the grease getting into my hair. Long overdue for a cut actually. SJ Debaser 01:45, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

how do i edit wikia wiki ?[edit]
goonies told me you would help me out :-) Waronstupidity (talk) 04:40, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- Might! I said he might be able to help you edit a Wikia-style wiki, having been on Liberapedia. The Goonie Punk Can't sleep, clowns will eat me! 04:45, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- Indeed, the smelly, antisocial punk is correct, I started out my wiki-editing days Liberapedia about a year and a half ago. Wikia wikis aren't all that different to editing MediaWiki wikis like RationalWiki, Conservapedia, Wikipedia, aStorehouse of Knowledge, etc. You edit it in the same way as you would to any of these wikis, (clicking edit, typing then "save page") and HTML also works in them, so you can do bitchin' signatures like other uses here. The only thing really different from MediaWiki is the style which Wikia is laid out; Wikia wikis like Liberapedia cost nothing for the domain name holder to run, so Wikia have to make their money through advertising, which means they have tons of unaesthetic adverts up and down the page. This sometimes affects the way a page is loaded, with the format itself being disjointed, and massive gaps between paragraphs, and such. However, if you're looking at Liberapedia I'd suggest joining it; it's a good place to work on articles, and you can basically write whatever the hell you want there. - I'm fast approaching the post-teen years where I'm beginning to think I should knock off the smoking, not that I do it frequently. I tend to give up for about a week or two then buy a pack when I'm bored/frustrated, both of which occur far to frequently for a student. I was at the pub this afternoon for a couple of pints with my family. My granddad - 81 year old Irishman - can still drink me and me brothers under the table.
- Also, I like the hat and the painted nails. I've only ever done mine black on occasion. Accessory-wise, I recently invested in a pair of mirrored Aviator sunglasses, and they work a charm for checking out the ladies without me looking like a total perv. Now I'm waiting for my new round, Lennon-style ones to arrive. SJ Debaser 00:11, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- You mean National Health "I'm a millionaire but I'm too cheap to buy my own glasses" glasses? ħuman 04:45, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- Cheers. I switched to purple because I didn't want to get mistaken for a goth, but then I got accused of being Freddy Mercury. Yup, the elderly Irish have a scary capacity for boozing. I can put a few away, but when my dad comes to visit I end up with 2-3 day hangovers trying to keep up with him. Good call on the sunglasses. I wore the hat because it was unusually sunny here (which in Ireland means that it was an unusual day in which there was no rain), and I can't wear sunglasses unless I get another set of contacts. --Ask me about your mother 09:21, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- God, I miss Ireland. I haven't been for 2 years now. If I scrape enough money together in the next year or so I'll probably go back and visit Dublin. There's a guy in my faculty at University who actually goes round dressed with a cowboy hat and the leather jacket with the strips coming off it. More than likely he owns a pair of the sweet-as boots too.
- @Human- Yes, but unfortunately I'm no a millionaire. SJ Debaser 12:17, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- Give me a shout if you're ever heading to Dublin. I'm in Cork, so it's just a train ride away. That guy at your university rocks! --Ask me about your mother 13:26, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Capturebot2 will only work on pages listed under its watch option, but I'd prefer if we kept those to a minimum for performance reasons. -- Nx / talk 20:03, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- I though adding <capture></capture> anywhere worked. Will adding Operation Flying Hamburger affect performance that badly? SJ Debaser 20:30, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- Meh, not really, I just don't want everyone and their dog adding their stuff there which they'll then forget about. Pages like the saloon bar (which are huge, updated often, but most of the time no capture tag is added) are a no-no - Capturebot has to download and analyze the page every time it detects a new revision, which in the case of the saloon bar (and WIGO:CP and TWIGO:CP, but there it's justified) takes a while. -- Nx / talk 20:47, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

- Clarify - one could stop drinking for 4 weeks and say "see I am not an alcoholic" but as soon as they start again they go straight back to how they were when they left off instead of slowly upping it over time. A person who drinks two drinks a day can be an alcoholic as much as someone who drinks 20. Acei9 07:49, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

If one can easily control their drinking they're not an alcoholic. My uncle is one. He quits regularly, but it's difficult, and he goes through withdrawal. - I was in Camden a couple of weeks ago and noticed a large sign which said "Saloon Bar." I took a picture on my phone, but am unable to upload it to my laptop, on account of my phone being an ancient piece of shit. I need a new phone. Anyway, we could go drinking there and laugh at how we're drinking real life in a place called the Saloon Bar, instead of on the internet in a place called Saloon Bar. - Unfortunately, it looks like that will be delayed. Not sure by how long, but let's just say the project GE wanted me to go out there for is 9 months (!!!!!) behind schedule as my writing this, and isn't getting any more back on track (if anything, they are getting further behind every time our PIC manager talks to them). Therefore, they will not be ready for my help come November, as was planned. Still, they will need the help of a good engineering team from my company once they get that far, so it isn't as if I won't be going at all. Just a matter of when. The Goonie 1 What's this button do? You're a Yankee though aren't ya? But you refer to it as "uni." I thought it was mostly college over there. SJ Debaser 20:46, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- I am a yank and we do call it "college," but I know on your side of the pond you call it "uni." I've only been here two weeks but it feels like two months (in a good way). Yeah I'll definitely try to make the most of it, probably by not punching a dog in the face. Oh, and eating. Lots of that. Tetronian you're clueless 20:50, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- In Britain we can drink at 18, so all our money goes on booze instead of food. Last year I was eating up to four or maybe five meals a week. The rest of the time I survived on peanut butter and crackers. In England (and Wales) we have to pay for our education, whereas if you live in Scotland you can go to any uni in Britain and the government will pay for it, a fact that my Scottish housemate loves reminding the rest of us English. SJ Debaser 20:59, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- In the US, the drinking age is 21, so...people drink anyway. My university doesn't even attempt to stop people from drinking, it'd be impossible - they just try to keep people from hurting themselves. I generally don't indulge because around here beer is (a) gross and (b) expensive. The food here is actually pretty good, though, so I'd say I'm living pretty well. - Sorry I was out, unless you're still on now. I've just smashed the glass on our oven door by kicking it and my housemate is having a fucking pussy fit about it, ignoring me and the like. The thing still works, it's just the glass that's missing. Not even the main oven, it's the grill which you don't even need to close to use. Fuck it, it's 12.30am and it'll cost me about £30 to repair. I don't give a fuck. SJ Debaser 00:29, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
