Sysop[edit]

Whose alt are you?[edit]

Paging @Carthage since I suspect there's some overlap here. The user rights log says you got sysop rights after merely making a Userpage with the reason given being that this is a returning user. Would appreciate some clarity. -- Techpriest (talk) 18:12, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

Oh nevermind, I can't read. Carry on! -- Techpriest (talk) 18:14, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

Linking to Wikipedia[edit]

The correct way to do it is {{wpl|example}} (i.e. example). Plutocow (talk) 20:33, 14 August 2023 (UTC)

Thanks. My formatting is horrible and I'm trying to get better. Tikitime2 (talk) 20:36, 14 August 2023 (UTC)

Venezuela[edit]

You might want to check out our article on Hugo Chavez... Hint: it's absolute dogshit. Carthage (talk) 10:27, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

I have not yet checked... but I can only imagine... Tikitime2 (talk) 10:50, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

Foucault's boomerang[edit]

Could you do an article at some point about Foucault's boomerang? I'm not confident enough in my writing abilities to be able to write an article on this, and I've been really busy lately. If not I could start up the draft myself. Carthage (talk) 02:10, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

@Carthage I don't know if I'd be able to make a full article on it. I'd probably look at including it though in our discussions on the Liberalism page on its relationship with Fascism, which I think does require expanding. That sound reasonable?
I'd like to spend a little bit of time fleshing out the evidence and ideas for liberalism and its tendency to merge to fascism. I've bookmarked the article you linked and see if I can get it in somewhere. :) Tikitime2 (talk) 09:04, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, that's fine. There's also this article from Open Democracy: [1] Carthage (talk) 09:16, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

Marie[edit]

I only saw your post now after a few months. Can you explain to someone who's getting a PhD on the (economic) history of the early years of USSR why isn't he a reliable source while Domenico Losurdo is? And please, don't say that he's "biased". GeeJayKWhere all evil dwells Where every lie is true 03:23, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

"I'm getting a PhD" is a very funny way of saying "I'm a PhD student". It lets you claim you've achieved your PhD before you've actually achieved it. Anyway, you know the answer. You just don't like it. Tikitime2 (talk) 23:58, 25 January 2025 (UTC)
No, I actually don't know the reason. Supposing that you don't like Marie because you consider him biased even though you have no problem at using someone far more biased (and keen to conspiracy theories) is pretty much what Andy did when he created Conservapedia. If you think Marie's reseach is wrong, I'd like to know what are his mistakes. See, my problem with Domenico Losurdo is not that he's biased, my problem with him is his inferior intelligence and dishonesty. I still remember taking some good laughs while reading Liberalism: A Counter-History when he argued that liberals supported slavery because John C. Calhoun supported free trade and minority rights (I don't think most liberals agree with Calhoun's "Concurrent majority" though). Unlike Marie, Losurdo didn't speak Russian, he didn't even use primary sources on his book. He even used unreliable sources such as Paul Johnson on his book about Stalin. You really want to know what I think? I think you haven't read any book that Marie wrote, especially considering that, to my knowledge, his Stalin biography hasn't even been translated to English. GeeJayKWhere all evil dwells Where every lie is true 11:31, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
@GeeJayK Okay, so something has clearly set you off on this Losurdo thing, I can see that this made you quite angry. In truth I found it mildly amusing that you'd recommend an equally partisan source. Marie if I recall is a Trot and about as likely to give a balanced view on Stalin as a Stalinist is to give a balanaced comment on Trotsky. That whole slap-fight is a mess of nonsense. I'm honestly surprised that you think Losurdo would even need to argue that liberals supported slavery? That's a pretty uncontroversial fact at this point?
Liberal societies (that is capitalist economies with an emerging public electoral system) super-charged by newly acquired capitalist modes of production engaged in and profited massively from slavery. We may view the attitudes of them to be socially conservative... but they were none the less liberals in the proper sense that Losurdo means it. Liberal society indeed supported and intensified slavery with the drive to maximise profit leading to a system that saw slaves treated as mere chattel for squeezing surplus, and the invention of race-science that saw slaves as animals who were genetically incapable of being free. This was quite distinct from other forms of slavery in the medieval and ancient world that often offered the possibly of "earning ones freedom" and even in some cases strict rules and edicts on how slaves were to be treated.
I digress, my point is that liberalisms heritage, much like Losurdo points out, is as full of stories of horror and senseless bigotry as it is stories of enlightened cosmopolitans who live in nice san-francisco apartments and vote democrat "just like they should".
Also you say you'd "like to know what I think about Marie's scholarship" but also say that you don't believe I've read Marie and throw this at me as an insult. It does make me feel like you came to this with maybe not the most co-operative of intentions. Like maybe this was just a post that you made to even engage me intellectually but more a general "shot" at me over a disagreement that we probably had over comments a year ago (maybe more... how time flies).
Anyway, look. I live in a small town these days and I've seen local fascists organising. I am scared for the future and I would really, really, really, really like to not raise my children in a world where neo-nazis are just "a fact of life" again. For what it's worth, maybe I can be a bit of a smug prick and I apologise. I would much rather bury the hatchet as the junction because I don't need any new enemies right now. I hope things are going okay for you at the moment?
