World War II[edit]

Something you may find of interest was a tradition of nude photography among Allied troops during World War II. See the book My Buddy: World War II Laid Bare by Dian Hanson. I've seen these types of original photos myself from a relative's photo album. Bongolian (talk) 17:56, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

I was unaware of the rule on RW to keep all user talk page comments, which is very different from on WP where I have been treating them as messages to me, and deleting them if not useful. The suggested book is not really of interest to me, such photos being an example of the general indifference to communal male nudity that existed until some point in the 1980s. I have authored the WP article on swimming naked in schoolWikipedia, which I experienced myself in 1968. I do not know what the book says, but the editor, Dian Hanson, has made a career out of sexualizing nudity, a trend that I find sad. If the book's photos are presented as primarily homo-erotic, that would be a misrepresentation, and on Amazon, it is being marketed on a page of gay books. Gender-segregated nudity did not imply sex when I was growing up. I do not want to imply that adult nudity is not sexual, but that the lack of everyday, functional nudity has not allowed many Americans to develop mature, complex attitudes, but instead promotes being sex-obsessed.--WriterArtistDC (talk) 12:55, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
I would also suggest that in the future any comments to me that are about an article I am editing be placed on the talk page of the article, rather than here, so that others interested in the topic can see and participate in the discussion.--WriterArtistDC (talk) 14:17, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Archiving[edit]

If you want old comments off of your page, they should be archived, not deleted. Plutocow (talk) 01:35, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

I will have to learn some new habits for RW. In my 15+ years on Wikipedia, I have deleted user talk page entries at my discretion, without archiving, and no other user ever commented about that.--WriterArtistDC (talk) 03:12, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
See here. Thems the rules. Spud (talk) 14:01, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
Indeed. Archiving is the way to go here. Evidently this is not Wikipedia. Assuming that we have the same standards and procedures is an error.Bob"Life is short and (insert adjective)" 14:53, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
