RationalWiki:2017 board of trustees election/Nominations

From RationalWiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is the page to nominate potential board members and for nominees to accept or reject their nomination.

We are electing 2 boardmembers out of the total 5, due to adoption of RationalWiki:RationalWiki Foundation/By laws/2016 Amendment 1.

Nominees are encouraged to read the Guide for board of trustees election before accepting or rejecting a nomination.

Campaigning can be found here.

Process

Any user may nominate any number of users who meet the requirements, including themselves, by {{ping}}-ing that user name in the nominee section and informing that user (manually or with {{BoardNotice}}) on their talk page. No second is required. Each nominee must accept the nomination or else they will not be eligible during the election.

Nominees may accept a nomination by adding their signature to it. Those who wish to decline nominations should strikeout the nomination with a brief note. Likewise, ineligible nominations should also be struckout.

To nominate, ping their user name and sign (otherwise, {{ping}} won't work):

*{{ping|tmtoulouse}} I choose you, Tmtou! ~~~~

If you want, you can then re-edit to remove your signature.

To accept the nomination: Indicate acceptance, delete their signature, sign, and move your username to "approved".

To reject the nomination: Indicate reject-ance, delete their signature, sign, and move your username to "rejected".

Requirements

In order for a user to be nominated they must meet certain requirements:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be a registered user for 1 year or longer
  • Have 250 edits or more
  • Have at least 1 edit in the last 3 months

The Board meets about once per quarter (or more often, as necessary), usually for one-two hours. Almost all of the business of board takes place over e-mail. Depending on the number of projects and the time of year board members should expect to spend a few hours a month reading, contributing and voting in these e-mail discussions.

Members do have certain powers and duties candidates should be aware of. Membership in the Board means being a corporate director of the RationalMedia Foundation, Inc. In general, corporate directors exercise the highest level of management and control over a corporation and are ultimately responsible for its governance and welfare. They appoint and supervise the Operations Manager, have the final word on the corporation's purpose and goals and ensure that it has adequate resources to carry them out, ensure compliance with the corporation's legal and ethical obligations, approve major expenditures, and respond to significant changes of circumstance in a timely manner. In practice, their job is generally supervisory, as they delegate authority to carry out the corporation's needs to the Operations Manager, who in turn may delegate further authority to his or her staff.

Boardmembers' names will be signed to US state filings and IRS forms, which are both publicly available.

  • @Human Thank you for the potential opportunity to continue to serve. I accept the nomination. ħumanUser talk:Human 18:51, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
  • @Ikanreed It has been a privilege to work with the board this past year, who've done amazing work on ensuring the continuity and sustainability of rationalwiki.org in the long term over the course of 2016 and 2017. There's a lot of work left to be done, and I accept the nomination. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 19:28, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

Declined

  • @Bicycle Wheel Thanks, but no thanks. 79.68.233.43 (talk) (Bicycle Wheel) 09:59, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
  • @Bongolian I am honored to have been nominated. At this time, I would like to decline, particularly because there are at least 3 well-qualified candidates for the 2 positions. Maybe next time around. Bongolian (talk) 03:15, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
  • @DiamondDisc1 *DD1's reason for declining is currently offline. Please return to your previous page, where you will get cake.* Thanks for the offer though, I'm honored.💠💿☝️ (talk) 18:06, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
  • @CheeseburgerFace I appreciate the offer, but no thanks :).—チーズバーガー • めん Spinning-Burger.gif (talkstalk) 03:06, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
  • @ScepticWombat I am grateful for the nomination, but I am far too inactive at the site to serve. I have regressed to infrequent lurking, so it would not be appropriate for me to run for the board. ScepticWombat (talk) 09:06, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
  • @LeftyGreenMario I've mulled about it for some time, but I think I'm going to go with my gut and say no. I'm among the newer users in this site and I don't feel like I have the responsibility or the experience to run and finances is just something I... I don't know anything about. And I don't feel confident to run, especially not against more experienced users. Still I like to see how this pans out. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 07:16, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
  • *@Owlman I am not as active here as I used to be and I, unfortunately, have no plans to be in the near future.-Owlman (talk) (mail) 04:54, 4 August 2017 (UTC)

Ineligible

"The occasional IP edit over the years" doesn't make you eligible because we've got no way of verifying anything. Christopher (talk) 12:57, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
Also, this election isn't about changing the wiki, it's about keeping the wiki running. I think you're thinking of the moderator elections. You wouldn't get my vote with a campaign like that, in any case. ~ 19:24, 7 August 2017 (UTC)
  • @RoninMacbeth Not 18. Also, I've only been here since late October. RoninMacbeth (talk) 14:11, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
  • @Tmtoulouse Trent already has a permanent founder's seat. RoninMacbeth (talk) 14:16, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
  • @Tim Starling I'm eternally grateful to Tim Starling for saving us from the hackers and making the wiki all shiny, new and gorgeous. However, he's not eligible because he's only been here since the end of June. Spud (talk) 14:32, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
He actually made his first edit in 2014, doesn't have enough edits though. Christopher (talk) 19:55, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
  • @Koidevelopment Koi hasn't been here a year yet. Also they feel that Skype calls with strangers seems a bit weird sooo.. thanks, though. Fareeha A (talk) 13:21, 7 August 2017 (UTC)
I would've nominated Koi too, but I checked each of my nominations over thoroughly before nomnomnominating them and I had to leave a couple out. But it's the thought that counts, right? ~ 19:24, 7 August 2017 (UTC)
