Things we moderated[edit]
Can a moderator please add in a description of the Ryulong decision in the "things we moderated" section. Bedankt. Tielec01 (talk) 06:28, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

False accusation[edit]
User Bicycle Wheel claimed that I "[o]uted a trans user by posting an email here." on the Moderator election "candidate fact sheet" section.
They have since "archived" (deleted) my query on their user talk page.
Such an accusation, I am sure you will agree, requires absolute proof.
I request that, absent such proof, the accusation be stricken and the user in question make a public retraction and apology.
Any further sanctions would be up to the Moderators to determine.
Best regards,
ħuman 20:23, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

- Not gonna copy everything, but more relevant discussion can be found here. It appears the accusation was accurate. 142.124.55.236 (talk) 22:27, 30 December 42015 AQD (UTC)

- It does depend, I suppose, on one knowing what "gender dysphoria" means (which I do now). Also, the user outed themselves, if you think about it. Seems not to have mattered in the long run, as I was everybody's favorite 13th choice in the election it could have affected. Does pibot still function or do we manually archive these things? ħuman 21:42, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
- Pibot is not up, and nor is Zoobot; Carpetsmoker is looking at setting up a replacement - David Gerard (talk) 00:33, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

Almost everything except links seems to be there. That is, very little. ħuman 22:12, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
Told to contact a moderator...[edit]
I'm not sure if posting here is the right way to do that or not, but it's the only way I see that's possible. I made an edit which was flagged as potentially harmful. I don't know why; it was very similar to several others I had made which were accepted without complaint. No reason was given; there was only an unqualified $ in the space where it was supposed to tell me what the issue was. In any case, the flag statement told me to contact a moderator if I believed the edit to be helpful, so I'm contacting. If it's decided that I shouldn't make it, I won't object; I just want to know what is wrong with that particular one. — Unsigned, by: 209.180.207.131 / talk / contribs 03:13, 27 February 2016
- On talk pages, please sign your comments using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the sign button: on the toolbar above the edit panel. You can also indent successive talk page comments using one more colon (:) for each line. Thank you.

the problem of intervention in talk pages[edit]
this user, with the need to notify the user owlman regarding a need to converse with that user in private, notifies that user in talkpage. as it is known, all talkpage conversations are between the poster and the person to whose talkpage was the post made. after the posting, this user notices that user:jorisenter reverts the post made in user:owlman's talk page and bins user:FAMAS with the accusation of spam, which this user has not performed. this user performed the enquiry+request to user:owlman that amounts to "need to speak in private, where can user:owlman come for private chat". this user notes the apparent abuse and is requesting attention by other sysops.FAMAS (talk) 09:17, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
- There is a feature to email RW users; it's at users' own discretion that they have it enabled.
- Since you've done virtually nothing since coming to the site other than talk about the need to talk in private, it's entirely unsurprising that other users are uninterested in doing so with you. WẽãšẽĩõĩďMethinks it is a Weasel 10:29, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
Revision hiding[edit]
Is there a standard procedure for requesting a revision be mod-hidden? I already hid it with my lowly sysop powers. --Ymir (talk) 03:53, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
David Gerard is rigging a community vote[edit]
David Gerard recently proposed that 3 users be banned because of drama and conflict they've brought to the site. In setting up a Chicken Coop vote to ban them, he has stopped the 3 users in question from being able to vote on their fate. This is a blatant abuse of moderator power that must be stopped, if not punished. Never before in RationalWiki history has the accused user been banned from voting in his/her case. This attempt to rig the vote must be stopped now, by allowing the accused to vote.— Unsigned, by: Pbfreespace3 / talk / contribs
- In what world is doing so supposed to make any coherent sense? - David Gerard (talk) 05:24, 11 October 2016 (UTC)
- David Gerard also blocked a user for one single edit. Are we becoming Schlafly? I am not the Ombud's man 09:58, 11 October 2016 (UTC)
- Come on guys, cut David some slack. KhyberPass was a troll account, and claiming that "David Gerard is rigging a community vote" is a bit rich. Could you see no other reason for his actions than conspiring against you? That being said, the issue has been taken up, and was done so hours before I even stumbled upon this whine thread. Now, let's keep the coop business in the actual coop, shall we? Thanks! Reverend Black Percy (talk) 01:33, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
- sorry, you are probably right. But my approach to moderation (such as it is) is "give 'em enough rope to hang themselves". If KhyberPass is indeed a troll account that will become evident in the second or third edit. If not, what's the harm? One edit is just a little little data. But whatever, there must've been several false positive blocks but the wiki has survived, so it will probably survive this one even if it was a false positive. Alternates[edit]
If a moderator takes an extended leave of absence (say, three months without an edit) without resigning, should an alternate be promoted to fill the term of the moderator until he/she returns? RoninMacbeth (talk) 00:39, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
- It makes sense given that moderator positions by their very nature should remain active (or at least aware of day to day activities). GrammarCommie (talk) 00:49, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
Topic[edit]
Special:Contributions/62.30.229.198 You might want to ban/forward this to proper authorities if this is a legit threat "You're a pathetic snivelling coward. You commit criminal defamation. You slander your discussion partners. You are afraid to show your face. If we ever identify you I'll personally smash your fucking face in with a brick." ShiningSwordofThoughts (talk)
Hey just kinda something I wanna point out[edit]
I don't what the fuck this person is on about but these veiled doxing threats are kinda concerning. I'm not really entirely concerned because there are few of the old guard that know me pretty well, have met me in RL and I talk to regularly but this new guy/gal who has taken exception to my vicious language has me a little bewildered. Yes, I fucking swear, yes I can be a brusque, even lashing out but that is my style and one that has worn me well over the years despite my obvious insulting tone. I get it, it's not for everyone but Jesus Fuck - I don't understand why Anna has gone completely fucking overboard on this issue. I re-joined RW for shits and giggles because I have enjoyed it in the past (10 years a member man - I should get a medal...or my fucking head checked) and I have a bit of time on my hands (girlfriend away, daughter angry at her dad for driving too fast, vast holiday approaching and new business started) so thought I would dip my toes into the fetid waters of RW. I'd never fucking out anyone here and I expect no one else to either so can Anna kinda pull her fucking head in or do we condone this sort of thing now? All the best with love and kisses. Ace hugs etc. xxx...mahalo. Acei9 10:36, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
- 'One cannot see the woods (of what you wish to say) for the (swearword) trees' - and most other people here are more restrained.
- I am not making threats - veiled or otherwise: go read [1], so 'go curate yourself'.
- Consider points 17 and 32 of [2] applies.
- RW needs my 'collection of miscellaneous information and things found - so humour me. Anna Livia (talk) 10:59, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
