My Redemption[edit]
Hello,
I noticed you censored the admin abuse page. I just wanted to inform you that I am on my knee's begging for Rationalwiki's forgiveness. I hope you find it in your heart to take me out of the vandal bin as I recognise that I am fault for everything. Will you please forgive me? MarcusCicero (talk) 13:08, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

- Hello TOP! I hope you had a merry christmas and a happy new year! As you can see, my dramatic turnaround allows me to absolve the rash statements of the past. Redemption allows a new life. I have been reborn in the spirit of rationality. Will you please forgive me? — Unsigned, by: MarcusCicero / talk / contribs

- Hi Crundy! I hope you had a merry christmas and a happy new year! As you can see, my dramatic turnaround allows me to absolve the rash statements of the past. Redemption allows a new life. I have been reporn in the spirit of rationality. Will you please forgive me? I apologise for being an 'irritating little shit who prides himself on being an irritating little shit', I heartily and deeply apologise. You see, I was trolling then, but have abandoned that life now. I have been report in the spirit of rationality! Will you forgive me?
- As Jesus said, The wise man knoweth in his heart when to forgive the transgressions of wrongeth, therefore when the wrong doth repent the wise man does knoweth that it is wisdom to embrace him as your son" Will you forgive me? I throw myself on your feet and plead your liberal understanding of my plight. MarcusCicero (talk) 15:21, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- If I believed you then I might consider it. However, as you've proved in the past you will wheel out any excuse or argument (including pretending you are mentally ill and pretending to be your brother to tell us about your plight) to get your rights back. So no, personally I will never forgive the chaos you caused here and I will never trust anything you say or do ever again. CrundyTalk nerdy to me 15:29, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- It's nice to see that Marcus has turned a new leaf. As time goes on, I hope we can begin to embrace him in our community rather than reject him. Welcome, Marcus. Welcome all over again. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 15:31, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- I agree with what Neveruse just said. A posting limit of 48 per day, plus prompt merciless sockhammering will go a long way towards easing the wayward one back into the flock. 90 days of decent civil behaviour would be a good start in that direction, along with learning to do without pats on the head or pokes in the eye. Sprocket J Cogswell (talk) 15:39, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- I have no doubt that some idiot will promote MC back to sysop again at some point in the near future. When they do, I'm going to take a holiday from the site until he goes on one of his rampages again and gets put back in the bin again. I see no point hanging around while the site goes back into headless chicken mode. CrundyTalk nerdy to me 15:58, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

- Hi Crundy! Believe or not I can emphasise with your position. As Machiavelli said, Benefits should be conferred gradually; and in that way they will taste better. I can fully understand where you are coming from. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive this wayward soul. As John F. Kennedy said, Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names. . You are only acting and thinking reasonably, according to your situation. I mean this fair website no harm. Somehow, along the way, I confused reason with madness. I see I was in the wrong now. You see, last night I had a vision of a world where rationalwiki was right and in which MarcusCicero was wrong. It was a terrible vision which included dragons and dark lords and noble wizards and brave halflings who would venture right into the heart of darkness to put an end to evil in the world for ever. Or maybe that was the Lord of the Rings. Either way, I have admitted my guilt and would appreciate your love and understanding.
- P.S. I am sorry about the mental illness stunt, but I was not under any incapacity at the time, and was not in the vandal bin or whatever. I am afraid the one issue where I will not admit guilt about is the actual vandalising of pages, bad as they appear in isolation, I have attempted to explain myself for that numerous times but no-one will listen unfortunately. Maybe you will find it in your heart to reach out the arm of Christian understanding and forgive my past transgressions, no matter how egregious and painful they must have been to this most sensitive of web communities. But, if you think I am wrong I am more than happy to agree with you!
- P.P.S. Hello newcomers! I hope you all had a merry christmas and a happy new year! MarcusCicero (talk) 16:13, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Request[edit]
I want to lock my talkpage archives to the sysop level (I can e-mail you my reason, I won't discuss it here), but, if I do, it will lock Pibot out of my archive. Therefore, on the page capture menu, could you making locking it to the sysop level locking it to the sysop and bot level, or can bots also edit pages locked at the sysop level? The Goonie Punk Can't sleep, clowns will eat me! 02:41, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

- Which ever way you think would work best. Personally, I'd think both/and would work, so, that way if Pibot loses self-control again, it can still archive to protected pages. But that's just my opinion. Gooniepunk2010 Oi! Oi! Oi! 18:02, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi Nx, someone created a WIGO with the poll id wigo31371 about 27,000 entries out of sequence. The WIGO was removed for being offensive as well. Can you clean out the logs? Also, where are you? I haven't seen you about in ages. - π 00:26, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Trollery or not...[edit]
You really need to stop vaping shit form other people's talk pages. Armond is a big girl and she doesn't need Nx to protect her eyes from the words of the big, bad MC. And perma-banning every IP he edits from won't help, either. There are too many IP's/proxies/Tor nodes too make that a viable strategy. Let the baby cry himself to sleep. TheoryOfPractice (talk) 15:06, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not vaping him from other people's talk pages. I'm vaping him from the wiki. Obviously the ignore him tactic doesn't work, so I'll make him disappear instead. -- Nx / talk 15:46, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- I'm leaning towards the idea of just reverting everything he posts. This isn't censorship. This is about closing the window to lessen the noise coming from the braying lunatic on the street outside our place. I agree with TOP that blocking IPs is a bad idea, but I see no problem with just reverting any edit coming from the clown. He can sit there an post as much as he likes, and we've more than enough people to revert until he gets bored or crosses the line. --Ask me about your mother 15:58, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- His has already crossed the line a long long time ago. -- Nx / talk 16:03, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- With CR and Nx on this one. It'll be hard to stop him from editing, but we can revert everything he says. EddyP (talk) 16:17, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- I am also with ConcernedResident and Nx. I would consider oversighting him (MC) but that is probably a can of worms so I'll leave it alone. -- =w= 16:32, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- I'll add a third to that. He's a troll, he admits it, he likes it. the only reason he gets away with it is because we let him. it's not censorship because he's not expressing a view (unless "ha ha you cunts) is a view). Totnesmartin (talk) 23:20, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

- Gotta love that. I'm always amazed by people who will hear only what they want to hear. I've made several cutting analyses of this site. Yet it always transfers into 'you people are cunts' in your brain. And watch as this post disappears. This place has rapidly decomposed into something unrecognisable, to the extent where everyone will be reverting everyone elses edits with reckless abandon pretty soon.

Image capturing[edit]
There are a lot of red-link images on Conservapedia:Best of Conservapedia. Is Capturebot2 equipped to capture block logs? That seems to be the majority of the red links on that page. Also, I'm not sure if it is couth to remove the capture tags from that page, as it is an archive and all, but there are some non-block log images that failed to take and are already burned from CP. There is a lot of clutter in the Wanted Pages that can be cleaned up by fixing/removing these tags. Let me know how to go about doing this. Thanks! Aboriginal Noise with 4 M's and a silent Q 13:22, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- Capturebot 1 didn't capture log pages (and the wigo extension didn't display them) before Trent got a bigger HDD for the server.
Unless you want to go and edit the wigo archives and add an option to every wigo tag that doesn't have log captures, I can't do anything about it. Disregard that, see next reply -- Nx / talk 13:47, 5 February 2010 (UTC)- I'll probably go ahead and do that. then, or just outright remove the capture tags from the logs (essentially, the logs aren't going anywhere). Thanks again. Aboriginal Noise with 4 M's and a silent Q 13:57, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- But you can't remove the capture tags. The problem is that any link to cp within <wigo img=on> gets an img tag. I believe the old wigo extension only put img tags on logs if it was in <wigo img=extended>, but the new one doesn't differentiate between the two options. I'll dig up Trent's old code and see what I can do. -- Nx / talk 14:03, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

"split footnotes and references"[edit]
I hate to make a new silly wiki-war, but do you mind explaining this in a way we can all either follow or ignore? ħuman 11:12, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- wp:WP:REFNOTE -- Nx / talk 11:15, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- I wouldn't call that an "answer" or an "explanation". This isn't wikipedia. Not sure what you're trying to do, but it will make things very complicated for everyone if we are all to try to to follow the new idea you haven't explained anywhere on every article. Our simple "footnotes" that include chatty comments and citations seem to work just fine. ħuman 11:22, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- Whatever. -- Nx / talk 11:23, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- I think Nx has a point. Especially on large articles, it can be annoying to follow a reflink only to discover that it referred to a jokey comment rather than a serious citation. On other occasions, like when drunk and looking for silliness, the reverse can be true. Coming up with a proper dividing line would need a little thought, because some articles aren't meant to be serious anyway, but it could be a good idea if done properly. –SuspectedReplicant retire me 11:49, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- *ahem* - π 13:11, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- We use what Nx did well on pages such as side-by-sides, where the "references" in the original are linked to one footer, and our refs are linked to another. The only issue I have with this is that we are small, there aren't many places where we need it, and it makes life even harder for new editors. As far as the jokey link? Click on the up-arrow and you're right back where you were again. PS, I find Nx's dismissive replies to be rather rude. I ask questions in complete sentences and all I get is a brush off? I know Nx is our tech guru and all, but this isn't a tech issue, it's potentially a wiki-wide one. ħuman 12:00, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Can we stop it from giving the inline refs as [footnote n]? It's quite clunky and space-consuming. On BN I made the group "№", but that seems inelegant and I suspect will create issues with browsers without full character sets. Word wisest Phantom Hoover! 12:45, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yes. -- Nx / talk 12:59, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
- If you want two cents from me, I sort of agree with SuspectedReplicant's explanation. On larger articles it's quite odd to have everything thrown together and quite annoying when you expect a link and get some snarky aside. On smaller articles, then "footnotes" is fine, it throws things together brilliantly and it doesn't particularly matter. As articles grow, however, they tend to get slightly more serious (or at least require a more thorough treatment of the claims and counter claims made), and that's where a split between "footnotes" and "references" is useful, and I agree that that is a good way of dealing with it. However, rather than split it, what I've done in the past is to take "witty" asides or jokes out of the footnotes and put them into brackets or between dashes, inline. That way you get to read it, without having to do any clicking and without it making it look like we've referenced a statement when we actually haven't - which is one of the main objections I have to doing joke asides in our larger or more serious articles. If they are actual references or extended clarifications (that wouldn't work inline), then I'd leave them in the footnotes section. gnostic 13:13, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
