- Being an Expos fan must have been brutal. I actually like that the AL has the DH rule while the NL doesn't -- it's a best of both worlds thing. The DH can make the game more exciting by replacing the automatic out at the bottom of the line-up. However, it takes some strategy out of the game in terms of managing the bench and bullpen. I don't see why the DH rule gets people so foaming at the mouth, other than the AL/NL rivalry aspect. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 04:02, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi there. I have promoted you temporarily, to head off the burgeoning wheel war. Please don't take it personally! I very much encourage you to make a good case and vote for Tisane's removal if you feel this strongly, and we can get the issue sorted out. - His essay was deleted, and no one appears to be trying to get it back. The vote is, of course, whether or not this lapse in behavior necessitates a ban. If it's as straightforward as you make it, then the vote should very easily carry, right?--talk 05:02, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

It was his continuing arguing of the point on the relevant talk page--what I linked to in the Coop posting--that made it clear to me that vaping the essay did not end the issue. And the vote seems to be going pretty clearly in the direction I figured it would, as, in true Rationalwiki fashion, we are afraid to take a stand on simple community self-preservation against odious trolls. The fact that this is even considered a vote-worthy issue is nothing short of appalling to me. For chrissakes, he's advocating the decriminalization of one of the worst acts in the human repertoire, and we're too afraid of stepping on his "free speech" rights? Sick. Pathetic. Shameful. - Either it's self-evident that he should be banned (and everyone will agree with you and he will be voted out) or it's not, and most people don't find his essay/defense to be reason enough to ban him. In neither case do I see any benefit to letting you just decide by yourself who gets to stay. I encourage you to make a good case on the vote, though.--talk 05:13, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

kissing[edit]
(referencing recent block) But philosophy is fun! And so is editing my wall-o-text. I am working on the whole kissing dating thing, but online dating seems to not work out so well. I'm trying, but the response rate is bad. And I hate bars - I don't drink, and I hate clubs with loud obnoxious music, and I probably wouldn't get along with anyone who does that anyway. So, lots of people have suggested I join an activity group or something, but I find most to be so mind numbingly boring that I can't stand it for the relatively small chance to find a girl who might like me. The biggest problem probably is that I don't make friends, and I find most standard parties and the small talk to be excruciating. Meh, I do recognize that it is all my fault. I just wish there were easier ways to meet women who 1- don't mind that I don't have a lot of friends and that we don't have any common friends, and 2- don't like clubbing, drinking, traveling, or lots of outdoorsy stuff, and 3- can enjoy fun (pseudo?)-deep science and philosophical conversations and gaming. -- Sorry, but you asked for the rant via the block! ~smile~ LiberalOfAnUnknownVariant (talk) 07:39, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

It is better now than it was for my father though, when he was living in the Mormon-dominated Utah-Idaho axis where most people assumed he was "Mexican" or "Iranian", both of which would be considered "white" by the federal government anyways but not by the U.S. population at large. The whole thing is so frustratingly arbitrary it's hard for me to understand where the supremacists are coming from. (edit conflict) @Godot: I grew up in a Missouri French speaking family. - There's no doubt that CP is what brought most of us here and that it's CP that draws most new readers in. There's also little doubt, given the "Gentlemen!" shout outs, that at least some of User:Conservative's idiocy is performed for readers of this website. And while CP is a bastion of irrationality and base stupidity, given the extent to which a good amount of its pages views are driven by us, that its already insignificant and marginal status would become even more insignificant and marginal if we left it alone. There is also little doubt, in my mind anyway, that the good people of New Mexico did not grant an ostensibly educational not-for-profit foundation a tax-exempt status so that people could congregate to call a guy a fairy on a regular basis or to knowingly and willingly provoke him into saying stupid things--things that, unlike, say, the things said by many recent candidates for elected office in the U.S., or the advertising put out by woo-merchants trying to separate people from their money, are not worth refuting. - A person finds our sole mention in the world's most popular reference, Wikipedia. It says we're a vandal site. To confirm this, they check our most popular pages, where they see people fag-bashing. Weeks later, a user wonders why we don't get any new editors interested in writing articles, which is what the Foundation was created to promote in the first place.
- Another user, under the mistaken impression that the URL up top reads "Anti-Conservapedia.org" instead of "RationalWiki.org" — and seemingly unaware that the website is now part of an incorporated entity with legal, financial, and social obligations — pops up to vigorously defend their right to bash fags, and furthermore that their fab-bashing should continue to be subsidized with other people's donations.
- Meanwhile, the Foundation starts a new project as an alternative resource to the website itself, because they are so fucking embarrassed by the site's execrable community that they want as large a buffer as possible between the public and said community.
- But it all totally balances out in the end! Users like Rpeh donate money to keep their shitty website afloat, which the Foundation that actually owns the website uses to subsidize projects that aren't an embarrassing turdpile. It's a racket! Blocking stuff[edit]
Howdy! I was just looking over this whole discussion with Brasov. He's an idiot and pretty rude, of course, but please don't just block someone because you don't like them - especially not for several months. Lots of people are rude, frequently, and if that's selectively used as a reason to block people with whom we disagree, then it risks a bad cycle where blocking becomes an enforcement tool to win arguments. If you really think that someone is being so intolerably rude and that you need to protect people from their words, then start a vote. Sorry for the bother! I know how hard it is when it comes to dealing with schmucks like Brasov.--talk 09:28, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

- "You want to ban me from stating my ideas because you disagree with them and in the way I express them." I have said this to you several time before, and I will say it one last time. I will say it in small words, in the hope that you will understand. I have no opinion on your ideas, because I do not know, and I do not care to know what your ideas are. I do not read your posts beyond ascertaining that they are irrelevant to ongoing discussions and seem like no more than attempts to derail conversations and force them to address the issues that you care about. I spend no time thinking about the content of your posts for the very reason that they are uninteresting and largely irrelevant to ongoing discussions. - Well, I wouldn't have joined a church that didn't suit my political/ethical view/vision of what a better world would look like; likely those issues would trump any theological differences. But I also needed a place where I could explore Jesus's teachings and other religious traditions without having to think around a personified God--if that makes sense; I'm still trying to figure it out. Luckily, the "not a creed, but a covenant" aspect of the UU gives me a lot of latitude to do that. Enough to say, 2012 had some moments of existential shittiness that forced me to reevaluate aspects of my cosmological stance, coupled with deep conversations and moments of reflection that had a revelatory dimension. Or maybe I'm just finally losing my mind.

Question[edit]
Why'd you revert the article? If one can have relatively detailed articles on Time Cube and Flat Earthers, I don't see why a Hoxha article can't be reasonably detailed considering he was the leader of a country and many academic works exist on Albania under him. --Ismail (talk) 14:12, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- When somebody with relatively few contributions who seems like a single-issue editor totally revamps an article, especially one on a topic that a lot of us are unfamiliar with, it's probably going to get undone. Two things: 1. start a conversation on the talk page; detail what changes you want to make and why--don't just re-write the article; 2. keep in mind, we are not trying to be Wikipedia, and we are not writing an encyclopedia. If you want to write an objective, factual, boring history of Hoxha, this isn't really the place to do it. Make it short, snappy and fun. Theory of Practice "...and we do love you madly." 14:18, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- My proposed article is not nearly as long as the Stalin article on this website, and it's hardly some dense writing either. I'm fully capable of writing "objective, factual, boring" histories; I wrote the "Soviet–Albanian split" article on Wikipedia as an example. I guess I'll address the talk page of the Hoxha article. --Ismail (talk) 14:24, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- Stalin's a pretty big deal whose life/work affected millions and had implications on a global scale; with all due respect to my Albanian friends, well, I hear it's a nice country. And you say "I'm fully capable of writing "objective, factual, boring" histories." Great. But we don't really want those. - Am I somebody who believes that the western world has a duty to intervene and protect countries from themselves? Yes I am. If that makes me a neo conservative so be it. ProudTory (talk) 00:52, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
- And exactly what does that look like, "protect them from themselves?" wow. Godot She was a venus demilo in her sister's jeans 01:00, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

- Marginal, silly, goofy websites like this are hardly about "power" or "politics." Theory of Practice "...and we do love you madly." 23:59, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
- Well thats what you really mean, isn't it? This is power politics. They have all the power, we have none. In order to be heard we must scrape and bow and say 'thank you sir, thank you very much sir, I sure am grateful sir'. I prefer to have a frank exchange of views rather than play at politics. - Mali is in peril, in danger of fragmenting and providing a base for radical jihadists. The French have the right idea. Syria is fragmenting, breaking up, and threatens to envelop the entire region. The UN ought to intervene militarily, topple Assad, and usher in elections. Intervening in countries that threaten to destroy themselves is a moral and absolute good. Look at what could have happened in the former Yugoslavia (One of the few things Blair did right). I didn't support Iraq or Afghanistan for the record, they were wars of aggression. I did support Sierra Leone and the Balkans though. ProudTory (talk) 01:05, 27 January 2013 (UTC) EDIT: You seem to be going out of your way to get offended. Relax.
