User talk:Ryan1257
My user page was deleted as "spam and dumb", is there a format I should use?[edit]
And I'm new to wiki textbox formatting as you can see. Ryan1257 (talk) 19:16, 12 October 2021 (UTC)

Welcome[edit]
I’ve restored your userpage, can’t figure out why it was deleted or why you’ve been treated so harshly in general. Christopher (talk) 21:30, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- I only put the
{{meh}}
template on because his userpage was deleted, though I can understand why - it looked like spam. --Andrew5 (talk) 22:35, 12 October 2021 (UTC)- I apologize for removing your user page. The text of the page and your user name patterns immediately set off my built-in spam filter. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 23:06, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- It was weird, but I didn't think it was spam as those are usually in the format of "my name is x, I'm from y and my hobbies include z" or similar. Plutocow (talk) 23:08, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- I never said it was spam, I said it looked like it. Andrew5 (talk) 23:11, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- It's all good, I figured it was just me not knowing the rules, though I will admit, it did shock me. I've been a follower of RationalWiki for close to 12 years now and made a couple of accounts which didn't do anything with (and that I forgot the name to since I never did anything with them) since I was more interested in reading and consuming the content than contributing. I will admit, I've been a bit intimidated by how to do wiki styling even though I'm a programmer as well as not wanting to get mistaken for a spammer, vandal, or pushing a certain bias, so that's why I've been slow to really want to contribute. I'll probably start out by pointing out deadlinks and other needs for article maintenance rather than writing since I want to get a better grasp of the rules and standards before editting.Ryan1257 (talk) 23:29, 12 October 2021 (UTC)

There's been a random burst of hasty actions recently, something which randomly afflicts this wiki and seems to be correlated with random bursts of greater vandal activity. Anyway, since no one else has done so, I'll point out that I for one actually recognize and kind of like the type of silly touch of your user page. It's Illogicopedia-style good. And a large part of my own small user page is silly and "spammy" too. Actually, I don't think you need to worry any further about being mistaken for this or that, and if in doubt, just bring up significant changes for discussion on the talk page for an article before editing. --ApooftGnegiol (talk) 18:40, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks! I was going for the old "Uncyclopedia" style of "presenting something in an official way while getting more ridiculous as it goes on" style humor. And yes, I'm aware that any action on a page should be brought up in the talks first.Ryan1257 (talk) 20:03, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- This isn't Uncyclopedia, but, some people from Uncyclopedia edit here. Some people here edit Wikipedia. Fun fact - I am actually blocked and locked from WP. Andrew5 (talk) 20:07, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Not surprising there'd be some cross-pollination from there. I notice the humor here is similar, especially in the Fun pages and when covering some of the ridiculous topics such as articles on woo and various personalities. I haven't been there in ten years though, so I have little idea of how much the humor has changed. Ryan1257 (talk) 20:18, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
