The way things were[edit]

«I don't want to make any big moves as a BoN but what if it looked closer to this» — Unsigned, by: 2600:8804:500:FE90:C0D:ED7F:5B44:1ECC / talk

wow y'all are fast on it I'm just gonna do it.2600:8804:500:FE90:C0D:ED7F:5B44:1ECC (talk) 02:15, 30 September 2023 (UTC)

Sections[edit]

It might be a good idea to break the list out into sections. Bongolian (talk) 18:41, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

I was actually thinking about the style of this list. Should we use italics or quotation marks? GeeJayKWhere all evil dwells Where every lie is true 18:52, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
I think italics are preferred for complete works (albums, books, films, journals), but quotes for individual sections (songs, chapters, segments, articles). Bongolian (talk) 19:15, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

Is there a way to add votes to each submission independent to topic?[edit]

I changed my mind. A jukebox is better than a top 40's list even if they intersect. 2600:8804:500:FE90:15C9:7E98:D333:462F (talk) 06:33, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

I'd like to add a suicide header but not without the thing[edit]

An old buddy of mine and I, in more desperate times, wrote a song. It was explicitly about the big S word. He's in a much better situation now, but if I were to post anything regarding suicide or suicidal ideation, I would want it to, you know

oh I got it, lifted, all good 2600:8804:500:FE90:8036:6DBC:C40:CA1D (talk) 07:57, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

"Bad Man" — Donald Trump or Benjamin Netanyahu?[edit]

I posted "Bad Man" by Disturbed as Donald Trump's song here, but now I'm thinking that the song might be more applicable to Benjamin Netanyahu. Both are right-wing dictator-wannabes who wish death upon ethnic groups they don't like, but Netanyahu seems to be more eager and more able to act upon his hatred than Trump (given that the latter had the United States' checks and balances holding him back when he was President and is currently too busy trying to avoid going to jail to do much genociding). Anyone else have any thoughts on this? --Luigifan18 (talk) 19:24, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

Just have it be for both of them. They're both massive pieces of authoritarian shit. Carthage (talk) 19:27, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
True, and the first verse does ramble about fruitless searching for purpose and salvation through consumption and oppression (which describes Donald Trump quite well — I'm not as sure about Benjamin Netanyahu, but his actions certainly indicate that he draws purpose from "crushing enemies of Israel"), but I was thinking more about the chorus: "Oh, bad man, what's the reason why / Oh innocents always have to die by your hand? / No, I will never understand / Why these cowards bow to your demands / They are all victims of another bad man!" The "innocents always have to die by your hand" line in particular brings up images of what Netanyahu is actually doing to the Palestinian people right now, whereas for all the shit he's done, the only bloodshed I can recall Trump being actually responsible for is the January 2021 riot, some other far-right riot incitement here and there (usually at Black Lives Matter or anti-Trump protests), and deaths in immigrant holding camps through a mixture of negligence and overzealousness — all certainly very dark, deadly, and devastating deeds, but they may fall just short of the line of systematic and deliberate destruction of lives that Netanyahu is crossing. This isn't say that Trump wouldn't arrange the merciless slaughter of, say, Hispanics, blacks, Jews, and other non-whites if he was given the chance, but that's the thing — Trump hasn't really managed to get around to that level of Hitler-tastic murder-mania yet, whereas Netanyahu is at that stage. ("Human animals"? Seriously, what the fuck?) I dunno, any second opinions? --Luigifan18 (talk) 15:15, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

"Liberate" — more of an anti-fundamentalism song than anything…[edit]

I posted "Liberate" by Disturbed in the list as the song to represent the fundamentalism article, but on more careful consideration, I'm not so sure that it's really about fundamentalism per se; it's more along the lines of a skeptic's refutation or condemnation of fundamentalism and similarly narrow-minded, overly-confident-in-their-own-correctness worldviews. And yes, I know the Bible is quoted in the song (specifically the swords into plowshares bit) and biblical-sounding terminology is used (such as "waiting for your modern messiah"), but it still sounds more like something taking the piss out of fundies than a real attempt to explain what fundamentalism is. I dunno… penny for your thoughts? --Luigifan18 (talk) 16:28, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

I listened to the song again… never mind, it definitely does a good job of describing the fundamentalist mindset and just why it's so wrong (namely closed-mindedness and bigotry). --Luigifan18 (talk) 00:11, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

I have got to say, @Bongolian...[edit]

This was a fantastic idea. I remember years back, I think it was Asela who was asking in the Saloon Bar if the mob wanted to make a playlist together? And here it is, all the songs we like, picked by us, for our favourite articles. Probably of no interest to our readers, but for us, the editors? Fan-f@cking-tastic. - Rairyu75 (Talk) 01:58, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Actually, it was me who came up with the idea. --Luigifan18 (talk) 02:32, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
Yes, that's right (RationalWiki:Saloon bar/Archive443#RationalWiki: The Musical). Bongolian (talk) 02:43, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
Ah, well in that case @Luigifan18, good job man! Love this page. - Rairyu75 (Talk) 02:45, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Ben Shapiro rap[edit]

Look, Tom McDonald has been worse than ICP feature indie mixtape B Sides his entire career, but this Ben Shapiro feature sounds more artificially punched up than the literal 'getting sued by the family' Carlin thing. Like, this is insanely bad. I've always held that fans of Tom McDonald are not fans of music, but sheeeeesh, this is something else, I don't even want to link it. The reason I put HAARP as AI and not just HAARP[edit]

I understand it is easier to put it under it's namesake. I think it is a song clouded by it's namesake. 'will I be able to feel the difference when you turn ME on or off?' It's not a song with a worry about HAARP. And I don't know if the specific concern was HAARP having AI or what, but the actual lyric that gets punched up by the tune is about sentience and not having total control of said sentience, not really about watching weather systems.
