Trent, I think you forgot to say how much we want to raise? Or did I miss that? Asterisk (talk) 01:33, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Good point. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 01:37, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
A good goal would be to meet the $300 in matched donations. Tmtoulouse (talk) 01:41, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
Out of interest, what's the operating cost to maintain RationalWiki? Perceptron (talk) 06:41, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
About $130 a month is what the foundation needs, that includes VPS for RW, backup, and a smaller VPS for bots and a few other associated wikis. Tmtoulouse (talk) 06:43, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Just for the record I will be doing a full financial report of money in/money out for Q4 2010, and projected budget for Q1 2011. I will likely be presenting it to the full board at the first meeting and then it will be made publicly available here. I intend full disclosure of all finances just takes time to do it, which I am lacking right at the moment. But I am carefully monitoring all the finances into and out of the Foundation bank account. Tmtoulouse (talk) 07:41, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Excellent. Beer (talk) 07:46, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Phrasing of match terms[edit]

Is it "the first $300 will be matched" or "all contributions will be matched up to $300"? Because there is a big difference... Blancmange (talk) 02:32, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Thermometer thing[edit]

Where is the thermometer thing? No fundraiser is complete without one! Vesuvius (talk) 06:24, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Or the totaliser they used to have on Blue Peter[1] 213.1.35.101 (talk) 21:52, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

"You do not need an account to donate"[edit]

This is slightly ambiguous. RW acount, bank account or paypal account? I'd correct it but I don't really want to on such an important page. 213.1.35.101 (talk) 21:52, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

You don't need a paypal account (or RW either). You can just do it directly using a credit card. Someone I know just did... but not me, no. That would require a way to work "yenom" into a sentence. Palindrome (talk) 05:18, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

sounds like a scam or scheme to me!! How is this any different than all the things you criticize. seems like your looking to make money off scamming ppl into your beliefs! — Unsigned, by: 24.247.77.174 / talk / contribs

You're a nut. sPaRkYCan we really trust the Blathereen? 17:21, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Serious answer: unlike certain groups, such as The Missionaries of Charity to bring an example randomly out of the bag, expenses and income are reported to the wiki by Trent quarterly and as a non-profit organisation more detailed accounts are submitted to the government of New Mexico where they are available for public scrutiny. Snarky answer: Jesus loves you, so dig deep. Scarlet A.pngmoral 21:18, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

"2/3"[edit]

Surely 66% plus slightly over 10% is "over 3/4"? Emerald (talk) 04:24, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

My softer and greener friend has a point. At least, if they know someone who kicked in $30 after the "2/3" announcement. But they are probably just jealous and cheaply cut. Diamond (talk) 05:19, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Confusion[edit]

On RationalWiki:Site Support, this widget appears under the title "automatic monthly contribution." Is that outdated, or did I just commit myself to more than I planned? ThunderkatzHo! 02:15, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

No that's a mistake with the extension that displays the widgets. Tmtoulouse (talk) 03:32, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, just making sure. ThunderkatzHo! 07:49, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry[edit]

I would totally donate, really, but that banner popped up literally minutes after i purchased Crysis: Maximum Edition. Maybe i'll scrounge up 10 bucks to doante by the end of the month; really, I'll try. I ♥ this site.
If it makes you feel any better, Crysis is a ton of fun.--Brxbrx (talk) 02:20, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm pprobably going to donate, as soon as I can find my bloody checkbook. ТyTalk. 02:21, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Can we pay our hosting bills in dogecoin? We'd only need 6 million. --JeevesMkII The gentleman's gentleman at the other site 16:54, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

He pulled the same lame stunt last fundraiser, I believe. We rolled our eyes just the same. Especially since that bar only moves when Stabby updates it. Apparently, paypal hates my debit card number. "The card you entered cannot be used for this payment. Please enter a different credit or debit card number." being the only message. Do you guys have any restrictions on donations? ikanreed You probably didn't deserve that 20:23, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

Okay, I'll clarify all that: my account is US dollars, to a bank in the US, on an account with a US address, and a card that works for other online purchases. Let's just assume it's not an international problem. ikanreed You probably didn't deserve that 21:41, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
I'd like to re-ask this, because I believe in rationalwiki, but I don't possess multiple forms of payment. Does anyone know why paypal would object? ikanreed You probably didn't deserve that 14:06, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
This error usually occurs when the card was previously associated with another account. tmtoulouse 15:59, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

If we don't like paying Debit Card Fees to evil banks can we just mail some government printed monopoly money? Or would a check be acceptable? How about bitcoins? Are u guys set up 4 Bitcoins?LogicMaster777 (talk) 17:25, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

Bitcoins are even more fake than "Fiat". Fiat money actually DOES have backing; property tax. No one "needs" to use Bitcoin, but everyone who holds a chunk of property needs "Fiat". CorruptUser (talk) 17:29, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

How often does the fundraiser bar update?[edit]

I donated, and I'm wondering when it will show up. CombustibleLemon (talk) 17:50, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

It updates when the person in charge of updating it decides to edit the template, basically. Then the new update has to work its way through RW's server cache. Right now (at least on my computer) the text says we're halfway there but the green bar says 98%. BicyclewheelModerator 17:54, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
