I edited but broked'd the "shrinking rapidly" thing...-αmεσ (!) 22:40, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

Are you sure? I think we should just drop the weighting, by the way. Let them all be equal in the eyes of their Creators. humanbe in 22:44, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
I saw the "This site is" one come up, but that's all it said. I switched it to have those be two completely separate slogans. --jtltalk 22:51, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
It never worked, maybe you can't nest 'em. We both fixed it the same way though, I think. And I split the HP silliness. I mean, really! How about a spoiler or two for "Left Behind"? humanbe in 22:54, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

Left Behind[edit]

  • LB Spoiler: You do not get raptured!
  • LB Spoiler: I got raptured, you didn't!
  • LB Spoiler: You get raptured by Allah! humanbe in 22:54, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
  • LB Spoiler: Buck isn't really a very good reporter.
  • LB Spoiler: Carpathia is the good guy.--jtltalk 22:59, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
Personally, I'd like to get rid of all the "inside" jokes. I have no idea what those last two mean (and never will). One HP one is sorta OK, especially if its a "who killed" thing, but they get old fast. humanbe in 23:04, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
  • LB Spoiler: You get raptured, I get your SUV!
  • Left Behind Spoiler: No Child! (Bad President!) humanbe in 23:04, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
The Buck one isn't very funny. Carpathia, if I have his name right, is the antichrist / world dictator character. --jtltalk 23:18, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
It's pretty funny for me, as I've been reading Slacktivist's Left Behind deconstruction, which makes it clear that Buck's being The Greatest Investigative Reporter of All Time is what we call in the trade an Informed Ability. (Or maybe his bungling IS the writers' idea of good reporting. What a scary thought.) --Gulik 13:06, 11 July 2007 (CDT)

Misc New Ones[edit]

"Abiogenesis means not having to pay for dinner"--PalMD-Goatspeed! 23:38, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

Any takers?
I don't "get it" completely yet, Doc. You mean you used to buy dinner to sleep with chemical stew under ultraviolet and now you don't? humanbe in 23:43, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
I was never a good humorist.--PalMD-Goatspeed! 23:45, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

"How can we fix it?
You just keep hitting 'reload' until it fixes itself.
At least, that's what I just did."

from the forum. humanbe in 23:43, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

Can I put on "Home of the great low-flow toilet conspiracy," or is that too private joke/mean to HeartoG?ŠтΈṜȳŁЁand...? 09:07, 17 July 2007 (CDT)
Unm, conspiracy? How about the home of distortions and lies in honor of Sterile? Or is that just too mean?
Now, now, be nice in front of the strangers ;) I'd "vote" for "Home of the Great Communist Consensus Swarm" - except that it would be a tiny little in-joke. Let's keep the in-jokes everywhere else on the site, the way they are, and at least let the front door to our house (Hi Andy!) look presentable. And as far as the nastiness, I know we all have trouble doing so, but we have to 1. try not to let perceived nastiness get under our skins, and 2. try to channel what might get nasty into something slightly more productive (out of consideration for anyone else having to deal with it). Just my 0.02, of course. humanbe in 11:33, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

Protection[edit]

If we start to get vandals, this might be a target. Never had a problem yet with our mainpage stuff, but, to quote Mad Eye Moody...

CONSTANT VIGILANCE!!!-αmεσ (!) 23:45, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

Considering that nothing on the main page is protected and hasn't been attacked yet, AFAIK... at least it's on all our watch lists now. humanbe in 23:47, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

Exactly what I meant.-αmεσ (!) 23:49, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

Man, are you guys watching the team competition? It's better than rodeo! I bin writing up the play-by-play. I haven't had this much fun on CP since I discovered you didn't have to provide sources when writing articles! humanbe in 23:57, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

...I might! I'll have to give it a bit of a think first. Don't want any off-the-cuff boring ones creeping in. Totnesmartin 17:53, 4 November 2007 (EST)

Personally I think No 4 is V clever (referencing the "kissing Mary Magdalene on the mouth" thing). Totnesmartin 14:12, 6 November 2007 (EST)
I like #'s 2 and 5. 4 is funny, but a bit long for the space it has to cram into. Maybe it could be part of a snarticle somewhere? Like, as a lead to the bible versions article? humanUser talk:Human 14:19, 6 November 2007 (EST)
I don't get #2. Is that some sort of Hamlet reference, or...? --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 14:29, 6 November 2007 (EST)

caveat emptorium[edit]

what was the matter with that slogan? humanUser talk:Human 13:21, 7 November 2007 (EST)

It doenst even make sense. Elassint Throw things at me 13:23, 7 November 2007 (EST)
Why not? humanUser talk:Human 13:24, 7 November 2007 (EST)

I LOVE caveat emptorium! Immediately reinstitute this excellent slogan! DogP 19:06, 4 December 2007 (EST)

I concur. Although it should be caveat emporium. If you care about these things. --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 19:12, 4 December 2007 (EST)

UH...no That's the whole point. DogP 19:13, 4 December 2007 (EST)

In that case, I am afraid I have missed the point entirely. :-( --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 19:15, 4 December 2007 (EST)
I put an aversion of it back in. humanUser talk:Human 19:29, 4 December 2007 (EST)

My slogan[edit]

We need an anti-racist slogan; we don't need to pander to Jeb and his trolls. Sheep 21:59, 4 December 2007 (EST)

Well, I haven't seen anyone pandering to them around here...but it needs to be good, and make sense. Researcher 22:01, 4 December 2007 (EST)
What was wrong with it? Sheep 22:02, 4 December 2007 (EST)

Think up a good one and put it here first - like it says on the template! Susanpurrrrr ... 22:04, 4 December 2007 (EST)

Again, what's wrong with it? Sheep 22:06, 4 December 2007 (EST)
"We can refute creation better than Prussian Blue can sing" Firstly, no one here is trying to refute creation, just creationism. Secondly, either we're not that good (because PB can't sing well), or we rock (and thus PB sings pretty good), neither of which I want to put up there. Researcher 22:07, 4 December 2007 (EST)
Actually, even if you have lousy ways of refuting creationism, you can do so better than they can sing, thus meaning that we aren't really that good, which we at RW aren't Sheep 22:09, 4 December 2007 (EST)
Maybe it's mentioning the group at all? Try it maybe with oh, I dunno what's BIG with CЯacke®'s..Lynyrd Skynyrd, perhaps?
Actually, Lynyrd Skynyrd is also racist, just a lot better at hiding it. However, either way, why do we want our slogan to say "We suck"?? Researcher 22:14, 4 December 2007 (EST)
Because you do...I mean, uh...because you ARE better than racist trash bands, even if you do suck. Sheep 22:15, 4 December 2007 (EST)

Isn't 200 a little low? We have more than 250 sysops and some of us have more that one metal problem. - User 22:17, 24 March 2009 (EDT)
My first draft said "over" in front of both numbers, but then I decided to copy Schlafly's format exactly. Anyway, chances are that 50 of the sysops are socks. Let's face it, any of us could be five new sysops in three days. Feel free to pick a better number if you like, though! (57? 42? 314?) ħumanUser talk:Human 22:41, 24 March 2009 (EDT)

Lame new one[edit]

is "a storehouse of science" or something like that too lame to go in? Totnesmartin 09:47, 26 March 2009 (EDT)

I've captured a few of the funnier edits to cp:Help:Practice Page, including the inspiration for our slogan. Didn't really know where to put these, so here you are:

Hot. Science. RationalWiki!

lemon party, tub girl RationalWiki

Awesome. As much as I lurv Andy for making up an excellent slogan for us, I loathe him for making me find out what lemon party and tub girl mean. ħumanUser talk:Human 20:01, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

IntegerWikis[edit]

I've been a member of this site for almost a year, and I still laugh whenever I see that one. Many thanks to whoever came up with it. Wehpudicabok 04:59, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Me too, it's my favorite after Hot. Science. Anyway, now that the version that is on the RC and WL pages is "stripped", should we add "RationalWiki:" (blah)? ħumanUser talk:Human 04:21, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

So there[edit]

"Cleaning up toxic waste spills in the waterways of public discourse." - David Gerard (talk) 10:22, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

"When isolated chemicals are the problem, science is the solution!" I get the pun (use science to solve isolated chemicals, har di har har), but I don't get the slogan... When are isolated chemicals the problem, as related to RW's mission? Nullahnung (talk) 09:06, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Just a science pun. If you don't think it's worth keeping feel free to revert. (Honestly I don't get how some of these are on mission anyway... the "now we are a family again" one particularly baffles me...) Also, I can't see it no matter how many times I refresh RC. Sometimes the template shows up blank though. Did I screw something up in the coding? Wehpudicabok [話] [変] 09:08, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Never mind, I finally saw it. Probably just my browser cache being weird. Wehpudicabok [話] [変] 09:10, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
I've just managed to twist my brain around, so that the slogan doesn't need to relate to the site much in my opinion, so ... good slogan! Nullahnung (talk) 09:12, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Proposed addition[edit]

What about "RATIONALWIKI is RUN by the GLOBALISTS AND SHEEPLE"? From a Facebook message from one James B. Russel to Alex Jones.--ZooGuard (talk) 08:39, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

Thumbs up. Scarlet A.pngDon't click here 12:01, 1 June 2014 (UTC)
Added at weighting 1, up if you like - David Gerard (talk) 12:18, 1 June 2014 (UTC)
I laughed so hard when I realized that was an ACTUAL quote. arguably we should change the external link part of it to look more like an external link. At first I was like is there a citation for this, or did someone make it up. Also at first I didn't realize it was a joke, though I really really should of the link and exceperpt from rational wiki he uses makes it kind of obvious. --NonPerson (talk) 00:55, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Old proposed ones that I like[edit]

  • "Equipping RationalWiki adds +10 to Intelligence."
  • "Our ancestors rode out the flood on a floating mat of vegetation - what's your excuse?"
  • "Going over to RW is like watching your kid play happily in the toilet after someone used it and forgot to flush." -- Karajou

Whatcha think? Sir ℱ℧ℤℤϒℂᗩℑᑭƠℑᗩℑƠ (talk/stalk) 00:40, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

The first one is good though limiting to those who get the reference, the second... i dont get it. The third one isn't that great and mentions CP in any context, limiting its effectiveness.--Miekal 01:39, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

New slogan ideas[edit]

  1. A front for rationalist indoctrination!
  2. Basically what a slightly left of centre atheist needs to win an internet debate!
  3. Chock-full of right-wing conspiracy theories, woo, pesudoscience, and anti-science!
  4. A sentient ball composed of smugness and snark!

From stuff I've seen about us on the tubes. Sir ℱ℧ℤℤϒℂᗩℑᑭƠℑᗩℑƠ (talk/stalk) 05:49, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

Nitpicking[edit]

The current slogan, "The wiki that can be expressed as the ratio of two IntegerWikis!" is actually not correct if the denominator is the Zero Wiki! Bongolian (talk) 08:22, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

fixed Sir ℱ℧ℤℤϒℂᗩℑᑭƠℑᗩℑƠ (talk/stalk) 12:18, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
The original statement was actually more accurate. You can express any rational number as the ratio of two integers, we never claimed that we would use every integer. As written now though, it excludes the case where the rational number is zero. --TiaC (talk) 12:29, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Slogans I hate[edit]

All of these are reaaallly boring. The only one I kinda like is "The truth is not a popularity contest", because it could be turned into "The truth is not a popularity contest -- it's a [INSERT ALTERNATE EVENT]". Can these die pls? Sir ℱ℧ℤℤϒℂᗩℑᑭƠℑᗩℑƠ (talk/stalk) 17:04, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

It's vague and boring. Sir ℱ℧ℤℤϒℂᗩℑᑭƠℑᗩℑƠ (talk/stalk) 18:53, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
I'm sure glad we have somebody around here to objectively quantify humor for us. --Inquisitor (talk) 18:56, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
What's vague about it? It tells us when RW was founded (2007), and tells something about our stance sorta.--Miekal 18:58, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

I would not be in favour of adding them back. There could be something to be said for #3 and #10, but even that would be a fairly long stretch. - Grant (talk) 22:35, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

Is /r/atheism a good place to source our banner material? BicyclewheelModerator 17:26, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
It was intended as a counter to the idea that RW is full of "euphoric atheists" - that's why it's "only after consumption of certain (usually illegal) substances", not because we've been enlightened by Science and Rationality (or Geometry and Theology). I.e. a bit of self-deprecating humor. It looks like the joke failed, probably because it relies on being familiar with the meme and RW's reputation in certain circles.--ZooGuard (talk) 10:22, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

I was bored[edit]

And I've seen pretty much all the slogans there is, so I brainfarted some other ones:

  1. "Makes for good light reading when you're going to Hell."
  2. "Have your shot glass at the ready."
  3. "And He rested on the seventh day, because He was a lazy bastard."
  4. "Getting drunk on cans of worms."
  5. "It's clearly a wiki, it's got a lot of links in it."
  6. "Not the spawn of Satan, but still his second cousin twice removed."
  7. "lol more like irrationalwiki amirite"
  8. "Please leave a message after the bleat."
