Breaking ties
You don't need to break ties, if it remains deadlocked for long enough it will default to keep (albeit with the strong possibility that the article will be nominated again sooner or later). You're free to vote how you want, though. Plutocow (talk) 03:49, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
About your suggestion
Yes, I think what you said is reasonable. GeeJayKWhere all evil dwells Where every lie is true 11:49, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- Also, feel free to send me ideas on what I should ask him. GeeJayKWhere all evil dwells Where every lie is true 11:50, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
Emil Kirkegaard
So what exactly is your connection to Emil Kirkegaard? Pinkerite (talk) 14:43, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- Kirkegaard used to be my friend, but he isn't anymore, as I explained here. He and I have avoided one another for nearly five years at this point.
- Also, regarding your comments in this section, you should be aware that at the time when I joined RationalWiki I wasn't the subject of an article here. Johns recreated the article about me in response to my being allowed to join. Tetrapteryx (talk) 17:14, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link - it confirms that Kirkegaard has tried to tamper with wikis in the past.
- Why do you care so much about Oliver Smith, exactly? Pinkerite (talk) 18:40, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- Smith has created attack pages here about both myself and Emily Willoughby, who is a close friend of mine. He's also impersonated me on this Wiki several times, as well in the comments to Jerry Coyne's blog website (where I sometimes comment), and a few years ago he was spamming Reddit with various defamatory posts about me for several weeks.
- I'm not interested in discussing this any more, okay? It looks like Oldman4 isn't going to get banned as a Smith sockpuppet, so at this point I'd prefer to let the matter drop, at least for now. Tetrapteryx (talk) 20:31, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- Something I've learned from watching Smith's behavior towards other people is that when a person becomes one of his targets, they never stop being one of his targets. Even if he were to leave me alone for a year or more, I predict he'd be back at my throat the next time I have a significant accomplishment. (Note that *most* of my accomplishments have nothing to do with race or intelligence--for example, my next major collaboration with Emily Willoughby will be a collection of paleontology themed poetry.) Unless the article about me here is deleted, which I think is unlikely to happen, doing what I can to get RationalWiki to enforce Smith's ban is necessary to protect myself. Tetrapteryx (talk) 19:40, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- Smith has every right to defend himself against Emil Kirkegaard and his gang, who are vicious and completely without ethics, as witnessed by the scurrilous City Journal article that was quite rightly retracted. And since you are a friend of Emily Willoughby who is a key player in the hereditarian world, and sympathetic to Kirkegaard by allowing him back into the ISIR conference, I don't see why anybody would believe that you are not a part of the hereditarian gang, in spite of no longer being a friend of Kirkegaard. You don't have to be somebody's friend to be their ally or work for them. As far as I'm concerned, racists deserve to be treated with scorn and contempt and their public activities deserve to be tracked, as long as all actions against them are within the law. So I have no problem with Smith monitoring you or Kirkegaard, assuming your claims about Smith are true. I have my doubts. Pinkerite (talk) 20:18, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- Kirkegaard hates me too, btw, and attacked me on his blog and has tried to smear me. My crime is that I've written about him on my Pinkerite blog. So I don't think Smith needs to do anything over the top for Kirkegaard to consider him an enemy - just writing about Kirkegaard truthfully is enough to make him hate someone.
