My apologies[edit]
I couldn't reply earlier because for some reason even after I was unblocked yesterday I was still blocked. I would like to completely apologise for what was a completely out of order act. In my defense though, it was intended as tongue in cheek, and I didn't even think of the sexual connotations until I was blocked. Once again, what I did was intolerable and I hope you will accept my humblest of apologies. MarcusCicero 09:46, 12 April 2008 (EDT) (I'm repeating this message on Susan's page)
Templars[edit]
I was reading Foucault's Pendulum the other day, and in a list of conspiracy groups being rattled off, one group mentioned was the Templar Knights of Toulouse. This lends much credence to the theory that you're actually a member of the Templars, claiming to work undercover for the Rosicrucians, but actually working undercover for the Gnostics; also, you live in Atlantis (which you reach from Aghartha), your father was the Count de Saint-Germain, and the Holy Grail is hidden under the caps lock key on your keyboard. Wiki bots[edit]

unblocking vandals[edit]
I know that either you or Human will soon go through the block list & unblock the various Jezuz, Grawp & HAGGER accounts. I would ask that you don't. When they have to make new accounts it gives us a window of time to notice them before they have a chance to vandalise many accounts. They fill up Rc in minutes & the reversions add to the pollution so the fewer the better. ContribsTalk 09:06, 25 June 2008 (EDT)
- I tend to agree with you Susan, we can undo the vandalism but sometimes it is a reall pain in the ass. Now if we had a tool to undo all of the vandal edits in one go, rather than having to undo or rollback each edit (or worse, each page move) then I would agree to the more relaxed policy. A one click revert which also erases their efforts from RC might actually act as a partial deterrent to repeat vandals as it would require more effort on their part compared with our cleaning up operation. vandal brake[edit]
OK, it works? But, only 'crats can alter user groups, right? And that is required to make it work (like there are, what, four users that should be in it).
Anyway, as teh beans guy said to me in IRC: "This all really defeats chaos' point." And I agree. It was a much bigger pain in the ass just blanking ten pages for you than it ever has been rolling back ten page blanks. ħuman 03:35, 28 June 2008 (EDT)
- Yea, moving a user into the "vandal" group should make blocking almost pointless as I can set it so that they can't make an edit for as long as we want. A user in that group that can only make an edit 3 times a day doesn't need to be blocked. I can also use the same strategy to brake editing rates from any category of users, such as brand new accounts or anonymous IPs. TMTVandal2 03:38, 28 June 2008 (EDT)

- And I agree, and we even have evidence to argue our case! (the wiki worked faster than any bot could have!) ħuman 04:46, 28 June 2008 (EDT)
- I say just set edit rate to once every few hours for "vandal" and move them into that category and forget about them. Then anonymous/new users at an edit rate of no more than one edit every 10-20 seconds. There shouldn't really be a legitimate need to edit any faster. And once they become "established" (which is not hard) edit rates are not limited. I think a plan like that could drastically limit what vandalism we do get and make blocking almost obsolete. tmtoulouse oppress 05:01, 28 June 2008 (EDT)
- And I agree, and we even have evidence to argue our case! (the wiki worked faster than any bot could have!) ħuman 04:46, 28 June 2008 (EDT)
- I hate to say this, but I see no point in a "vandal brake", really. It would not make life easier to us or to them, and it will not be more morally acceptable. "We don't banhammer for ideological reasons, we just... slow you inferior Liberals down to useless, HAHA" would CP's version be. (Editor at) CP:no intelligence allowed 06:41, 28 June 2008 (EDT)
- Looks like a cool idea to me. Usually a vandal will manage at least five or six "hits" before getting stopped. I guess the challenge is to work as quickly as possible in order to see how much mess they can make, and then orgasm over the results in recent changes as people bounce them back. If the system simply prevents them getting past one or two why would they even bother to start?--Bobbing up 08:09, 28 June 2008 (EDT)
Individual users could be added but that would have to be manual. I think it is better to just move them into the vandal user right. At the moment only the crates can move people into the vandal category. Page moves is turned off for non-established users, and for any user in the vandal user group. And Ed@Cp, no one would use this on anyone but a consistent vandal. We are currently talking about permanent bans for these users. This is a method that for all intents and purposes can stop a known vandal account while still giving them access to the site. If they post "hey just kidding I will be good now" they can be moved out. I see this as a far better solution than a block. tmtoulouse oppress 12:29, 28 June 2008 (EDT)
- I want to see how it plays out, and if it works I will offer to sell it to Schlafly. tmtoulouse oppress 14:04, 28 June 2008 (EDT)
Ummm...[edit]
Hey, yeah. The new system stuff (think It's called vandal brake) is supposed to allow one edit per 15 seconds, is that correct, as to avoid two quick edits. I tried to make my first edit of the night as an IP and it didn't work. So either someone used my IP, my computer, or there is a gli-t-ch. I don't think the first is possible, the second is probalby not either as there is no one who broke into my room 14 seconds before I edited just to edit RW. Of course I may have misread or done something wrong. Just though I'd drop you a line. --*Gen. S.T. Shrink* Get to the bunker 03:11, 29 June 2008 (EDT)
- Hey STS, this whole thing is in beta mode right now, don't expect it to work right yet! ħuman 03:34, 29 June 2008 (EDT)
- So, telling one glitch might help. That was a bit of my reasoning. Thats a lie. --*Gen. S.T. Shrink* Get to the bunker 03:35, 29 June 2008 (EDT)
- Oh, absolutely, clearly reporting glitches is a good thing. "Clearly reporting" being a key here. I just thought you were jumping in to "delta" testing mode and expecting everything to work. Mia apologia. ħuman 03:51, 29 June 2008 (EDT)
- Don't apologia. Although I did expect better. I mean it's already been at least 12 hours since Trent started, it should be perfect in every way by now. I mean sure it's a very complex system of wikifying that I couldn't accomplish with a full team of 200+ IQ programmers and Bill Gates, but thats no excuse for it to not work exactly right every time. (joke, just wanted to make that clear). --*Gen. S.T. Shrink* Get to the bunker 04:05, 29 June 2008 (EDT)

Question, had you recently made an edit with your logged in account, then logged off and tried to make an edit? Or had you not made any edits at all with your computer and it glitched? tmtoulouse oppress 13:53, 29 June 2008 (EDT)
Vandal brake, take 2[edit]
I think that the brake doesn't affect their ability to relocate pages. I moved Jerkoff Molotov to that group with RationalWiki:Vandal and he still kept on relocating until I blocked him. ThunderkatzHo! 09:54, 30 June 2008 (EDT)

- Ah, yea, there is a problem with "leading zeros" in the date storage. Mediawiki in its infinite wisdom is storing the timestamp in different formats depending on the time of day. This was leading to no vandal break between 10am-12am and shutting down edits from 1am-9am. I have been chasing my tail around trying to figure out the algorithm and think I might have it now. tmtoulouse oppress 13:13, 1 July 2008 (EDT)

pregunta[edit]
Is there a tag similar to <nowiki> that only applies to double bracket links (so that goats appears as [[goat|goats]])? I ask because it would be nice to stick around copies of CP talk pages so we don't have to worry about red links to things we don't want or need. ThunderkatzHo! 11:42, 5 July 2008 (EDT)
- No, nothing like that, I would say that the easiest way to deal with those is to run them through a find/replace before pasting them in. tmtoulouse oppress 12:32, 5 July 2008 (EDT)
