Ur old essay[edit]

So I commented on it bc it showed up in Recent Changes, but I just realised it’s a couple years old and might not still be relevant to you. However, if you’re interested in any of the things I discussed, please feel free to email me to ask any questions or whatever! πŸ’ ASELAཊལྐ πŸ’ 05:03, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

For the incessant trouting on Hastur's page[edit]

Grilled Japanese Trout.jpg Sizzle!

The trout you used to slap another RationalWikian has been gutted, roasted over the coals, and served with tartar sauce.

Don't take this too seriously. Somebody just wants to let you know that, just like the trout in this picture, your trouting of RationalWikians is overdone.

IveBeenFrank (talk) 22:28, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

@IveBeenFrank Noted. I just did it because I saw two other people do it for the same reason. You might also wanna make a template similar to this new one for excess whale-crushing. (Also, once you move the template draft to the template space you might want to come back here and change the transclusion to avoid problems.) --Goatspeed. @Sqrt-1 I don't think that rule exists. It wasn't in the eligibility guidelines... --Goatspeed. How's my editingπŸŽ„CircularREmail2.gifasoningπŸŽ„Steal my ideas 03:21, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Yeah I am not sure the 18+ applies to mods. I think being on the Foundation requires you to be 18+ though. AceModerator 03:26, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
I agree. If another mod says it doesn't apply, then that's good enough for me. --Goatspeed. How's my editingπŸŽ„CircularREmail2.gifasoningπŸŽ„Steal my ideas 03:30, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Ya I think you're right. There's no age rule for mods, only for the foundation's board (for legal reasons). As an old fart, I found Circular's comments to be rather profound. I haven't been in "school" for a whole lot of years now, but I have to continuously train in new things all the time. The benefit to being an old fart is that I don't have to do Finals any more. β€”cosmikdebris talk stalk 03:34, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Suppressing edits[edit]

Hey, thought I'd request you to quickly reread our policy surrounding suppressing edits:

Suppression should only be used for the following cases:

  • potentially libelous information
  • inappropriate personal information
    • home addresses and telephone numbers, national identification numbers, etc.

We don't use it to hide generic vandalism such as [1][2][3]. Furthermore, don't suppress pages just because you're not happy with them anymore (ref. [4]). I'm fine with suppressing inappropriate edit reasons, but please don't wantonly suppress diffs.

Notifying you of this since you seem to be on somewhat of a spree of suppressing vandalism, which isn't what it's for, and it clogs up the logs. Suppression is a last resort tool to protect the wiki against actual threats to it's existence (libel and doxx being the main one), not the cleanup tool for inappropriate content. The only exception to this rule is edit summaries which have unicode in them that fuck up the way the page history looks (had that once). Alas I jumped the gun. --Goatspeed. How's my editingπŸŽ„CircularREmail2.gifasoningπŸŽ„Steal my ideas 16:11, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

I am a mod[edit]

You need to stop dropping in phrases like "I am a mod" and donning the mod hat all the time. It is totally unnecessary. You should probably read up on what mods actually do. It isn't being a site policeman or some kind of super user. AceModerator 21:16, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

OK. Sorry while I did read up on it I'm still very new to this. --Goatspeed. How's my editingπŸŽ„CircularREmail2.gifasoningπŸŽ„Steal my ideas 21:17, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
I have been a mod several times over the years (I think I have been a mod a total of 5 or 6 years, was a former 'crat when we still had those and was a founding member and creator of the mod roles and rules themselves) and can probably count on both hands the number of times I have had to step in and say I am a mod and doing mod work. So chill, my brother. AceModerator 21:20, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Oh. I only told him I am one because in the previous comment he said I "probably wasn't one"; I'm just assuming he was talking about me. --Goatspeed. How's my editingπŸŽ„CircularREmail2.gifasoningπŸŽ„Steal my ideas 21:21, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

I just wanted to say thanks to you for fixing those URLs, and for the kudos. I'm glad that I'm somewhat useful. Twodots (talk) 22:36, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

@Twodots No problem. If you want to make yourself more useful then one thing you could do is add Special:RecentChanges and Special:UserList to your favorites bar, like I did. Adding this has respectively helped me quickly become aware of recent BoN/newbie edits in need of review/patrolling and quickly find out which users are good faith and which ones are trolls/wandals. --Goatspeed. How's my editingπŸŽ„CircularREmail2.gifasoningπŸŽ„Steal my ideas 23:02, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

Ok, so, I've discovered that while your suggestion was clever, I am not. How do I favorite them? Twodots (talk) 23:32, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
@Twodots Most browsers have a star icon in the top-right corner that you can click to add a page to your favorites/bookmarks. A small dialog will usually pop up right after that, which you can use to select where in your favorites you want to save it. --Goatspeed. How's my editingπŸŽ„CircularREmail2.gifasoningπŸŽ„Steal my ideas 23:40, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

You might be handing out mops a bit too lightly[edit]

Jno.skinner seems fairly harmless and yes they've been around for a year. But they also have only 12 edits (11 of those before you handed them the mop). Autopatrol sure, but maybe wait in future until editor has made a more significant number of edits before demoting them to sysop.

I'm not advocating taking the mop away from Jno.skinner, but it'd be great if you'd be somewhat more conservative on this in future. Knight CommanderIn ServiceTo HerGoatness 22:45, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

Logical fallacy revert[edit]

What motivates you to revert the logical fallacy change I made? It seemed a bit quick ... — Unsigned, by: MarmotHead / talk / contribs

@MarmotHead On talk pages, please sign your comments using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the sign button: SigButt.png on the toolbar above the edit panel. You can also indent successive talk page comments using one more colon (:) for each line. Thank you.
I reverted it because it did not appear constructive. Also because of the unexplained removal of lots of information. Next time, I'd advise you to take it to the talkpage and give other users time to discuss the proposed changes with you. --Goatspeed. How's my editingπŸŽ„CircularREmail2.gifasoningπŸŽ„Steal my ideas 23:34, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
Okey-dokey. 1) I did take it to the talk page a day or so beforehand (as a BoN); 2) Also, notice the the explanation of the changes was "imperfect improvement, combined with deletion of interesting, but irrelevant, observations."; 3) the deleted info was commentary about the lack of use of probability in the justice system and not about any kind of fallacy. 4) The tildes? Yah. MarmotHead (talk) 23:41, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
@MarmotHead Ah, I see. I assumed that those edits were yet another BoN blanking stuff because good-faith editors on here don't usually make such large changes singlehandedly, unless the article is brand-new. I wasn't aware of your comments, presumably because your IP changed in between. My apologies. Next time, be sure to sign in before making such changes so it shows up as "patrolled"- and so we know that it's by an established editor and is therefore likely to be all in good faith. --Goatspeed. How's my editingπŸŽ„CircularREmail2.gifasoningπŸŽ„Steal my ideas 00:01, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Fair 'nuff. In my grumpy mood (the sun sets too ^*#$%# early), I rattled off a slightly arrogant talk page comment. I'll let it sit and, if I feel moved some other day, I'll add the change back to the actual page, but with even better text. MarmotHead (talk) 00:22, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Question regarding the Kenster[edit]

So, reading the block log, I noticed that you called his alt "Lumpy". What's that about? Twodots (talk)

@Twodots Oh, that? That was just intended to be snarky and humorous. I just thought I'd include that in the ban-evasion rationale. --Goatspeed. How's my editingπŸŽ„CircularREmail2.gifasoningπŸŽ„Steal my ideas 21:31, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

Commenting, not objecting[edit]

I saw you just reverted something on Mercian's talk. If the world revolved around me, I'd've left it. The underlying point was valid, but only partially supported by the evidence provided. The snotty part around it (the capsid?)? Deletable. It's a reasonable judgment call, though, and I don't strongly object. MarmotHead (talk) 03:30, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

Question about 'N'[edit]

Is this 'N' (whom you have blocked) short for 'Numpty'? (This may be a BritEnglish term.) Anna Livia (talk) 17:25, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Pretty sure it's the unmentionable "N-word". This (and all the unicode bullshit) is why I for one that they're a bunch of User:Mikemikev's stinky socks. Besides being a big fan of lame unicode tricks, he's also such a virulent racist, that whenever I see a racist username, I default to thinking it's Mike again.
He is a numpty though for sure. Knight CommanderIn ServiceTo HerGoatness 17:35, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
Knowing alt-righters' tendency to think "look at me I'm so cool, I can throw around the epithet 'nigger' like a ten-year-old who had just discovered the Internet!" (having encountered a few of such alt-righters IRL in school pre-covid), that's probably what it stands for. --Goatspeed. How's my editingπŸŽ„CircularREmail2.gifasoningπŸŽ„Steal my ideas 17:39, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
I know the word around which his mind orbits - I was using a descriptive. Perhaps 'Numpty Nitwit' would be a suitable substitute? Anna Livia (talk) 18:05, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
I personally enjoy the descriptor "nincompoop". Knight CommanderIn ServiceTo HerGoatness 18:09, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
Although with him specifically, it could be turned into nincompoot. Knight CommanderIn ServiceTo HerGoatness 18:10, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
I renamed one of his stupid "N" socks to "Npoot". That's what I refer to him as. (Though I, for one, explicitly mentioned the word because I'm of the opinion that fear of a racial slur only increases fear of the racism itself. Describing it as "the unmentionable word" gives it too much respect IMO.) --Goatspeed. How's my editingπŸŽ„CircularREmail2.gifasoningπŸŽ„Steal my ideas 18:50, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Have we finished 'taking the mickey' of the subject of discussion?

Apologies[edit]

Sorry to bother you, but I wanted to thank you for helping me defend this fine wiki against nighttime marauders. I appreciate it, and am now going off to bed. G'night. Twodots (talk) 06:29, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Don't mention it. (And besides, what are you doing up so late at night your time?) But then again, as a member of the the "elected" SJW anti-freezepeach thoughtpolice, I myself tend to take my job a bit too seriously and stay up late enjoying troll-banning/renaming sprees a bit too much, so I can't really say anything... --Goatspeed. Figured I'd go ahead and just ask you about it, seeing as you're awake and active atm: Why is Sievert back? They're an obvious troll. I haven't been watching the coop lately; has something regarding them come up? I mean, I thought they were being infinitely banned... Twodots (talk) 07:26, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Sievert 81[edit]

I agree in principle to your infinite kickbanning of this problem user and non-trusworthy troll. As much as I abhor bringing this issue up to the mob, in the interest of the greater community I think you should bring this up for a vote in the mod board and propose an infinite ban, rather than unilaterally doing an infinite ban all your own. I don't think you will lack support for your proposal given Sievert 81's previous abuses of the wiki. Cheers β€”cosmikdebris talk stalk 04:11, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
