I can't deal with the twistedness of ASK this week. PJR and apparently Bradley live in their own, isolated world. Sterile hobgoblin 12:52, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

- I'm half tempted to write an essay on "the intellectual dishonesty of PJR's creationism" here, but it's not worth it. Perhaps we're at the last exodus, and PJR and Bradley can stare at each other making their personal wiki regurgitating CMI. I can't imagine how long Philip can afford to keep it on-line. - Wait a second... there's an implicit denial of the Germ Theory in that article. ERVs create or "are" viruses? Excuse me, wha? By definition they are now encapsulated in the genome of the host animal, and thus no longer "viruses", which is why we have to make the distinction that they are ERVs. I do love though that apparently these ERVs are not "new information" that an offspring would have that their parents do not... because that would violate the principles that genetic modification cannot produce new information. --Eira OMTG! - I think it's less so about education level. There is a lot of study into pedagogy that suggests that the vast majority of people hear educating text, and simply use it to reaffirm their existing beliefs. Namely, that people actually do the fucked up backwards science that we constantly jab creationists with not through malicious intent, but just because that's how the typical human appears to be set up. --Eira OMTG! Hamster vs. Cake[edit]
I wish to debate you regarding the recipes of Hamster vs. Cake. Hamster actually doesn't have any flour in it. But the interesting question is, since cake is mostly just sugar, beaten eggs, and milk, couldn't it be said that a cake is simply Hamster + flour and baking? --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 03:19, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- If you add just a small amount of flour it firms up the Hamster slightly and keeps it from softening in the heat. Its a pastry chef type of trick to keep things good in varied temperatures. Its a little bit like a pastry cream thats made with flour. Addd more flour and bake in a water bath and you get something more cake like. This was on a cooking show recently. You are right about the Hamster / flour etc = cake.
- Ah yes... I definitely could have used that when I tried to make my mint chocolate-chip Hamster. I whipped the eggs up to soft peaks, whipped the whipped cream, and turned to look at the eggs, and they had already fallen. Took them forever to even get to soft peaks in the first place. I should have known better... another trick, I know of is to use corn starch, this adds less flavor per stabilizing unit, and is actually why they recommend to use confectioner's sugar, because it has corn starch to prevent caking. But you're pretty much right on the dot, if I added flour and cooked a Hamster, I would get a cake. :) Have you tried frozen Hamster? It's awesome. It doesn't require constant churning like ice cream does, because it's stable on its own, however it comes out significantly more fluffy than creamy, and melts super fast. But still a big yum! (For the record, me vs. Hamster right now is 5 to 1... Hamster's favor. :( I totally get why some people just go with flavored whipped cream, and call it Hamster.) --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 07:53, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Then what the hell is a flourless chocolate cake? I always viewed it as a wet but firm souffle. ÑR/Señor Admin/¡hablen ustedes! 17:49, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Well, a Hamster isn't cooked. Reading a recipe for soufflés the differences are: you beat the eggs to stiff peaks instead of just soft peaks. You cook it. :) So, yes, a flourless chocolate cake would be a soufflé, which if uncooked, would be a Hamster. --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 19:53, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- you need to be careful with whipping eggs with an electric mixer , its easy to get them warm. Sitting the mixing bowl in a bed of ice can be a big help if your kitchen is not cool. I have a Kitchaid mixer with a whip for that sort of thing. Is a pain cleaning the bowl though. A flourless chocolate cake ? sounds wierd ? I get hit for calling stuff souffle, but hey if its beaten eggs what else is it ? Hamster (talk) 19:57, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Also, avoid doing it when it's 80-90° out... unless you have some good air conditioning/swamp cooling. --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 20:10, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Swearing[edit]
I dislike aggresive swearing. I don't mind swearing when it is done in a friendly or flippant manner. That said, different people have different standards. If you are a guest in someone else's home, if you know they have an objection to swearing, you respect that. Yet, you swear on aSK? You can have whatever opinion you want of Philip or anyone else, but when you express it by swearing, you just make yourself look bad. (((Zack Martin)))™ 06:13, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

- Well, the original meaning of swearing was taking God's name in vain, e.g. God damn you!. The meaning in English has shifted; it no longer principally refers to that, but rather refers to the use of shit and a number of similar words. Obviously when I say "swearing", I mean it the contemporary English sense, not in the historical sense of the word. (((Zack Martin)))™ 08:50, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
- you and Philip should get along well. You both seem to redefine terms to suit yourself. Common english states invective as swearing and nothing I typed fits that definition. Please stop messing on my talk page. Thanks bye. Hamster (talk) 15:47, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
- Wiktionary, defines "swear" as (sense 2) "To use offensive language." It is a well-known fact that the word "shit" is commonly considered offensive in English, especially among more conservative types (which defines Philip and co). Offensive language can be invective, but isn't necessarily (it can also be neutral or even friendly). Sorry, we don't redefine words, you do. (((Zack Martin)))™ 09:27, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

- I hate you all. Oh and hey Hammy. Glad to see you. You were in Austin?! My hometown! 03:35, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
- I am doing fairly well, better since winter ended :-) I dont plan on continuing with Asok , just could not resist a poke at PJR. I was amazed his site was taken down for overloading the server. He claims the web crawlers killed it. Hamster (talk) 06:08, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
- er who is he mad at now ? not me surely, although I do have that effect on some people ;-) I am sure its ACE. Maybe he didnt like the comment on a federal judge ruling ID as creationism ? Hamster (talk) 06:13, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah I saw my block had ended so thought I would give him a little poke also. Heh. Acei9 07:38, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
- He's probably on a limited bandwidth plan, so it's entirely possible that the webcrawlers are causing trouble, but it's not "overloading" the server, it's overloading his cheapo plan. My AWstats logs reflect that webcrawlers constitute a large percentage of my traffic. I am, however, on Linode :-) I can understand the issue; it's probably not what he said. 14:43, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Unacceptable[edit]
Friends don't let friends.... talk 01:46, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
FYI; Essay:Why the "fine-tuned_universe" argument is bogus talk 19:57, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- I like how Larry Moran has been promoted to prominent creationist just so that he can be quoted (and mined as such as a comment on a blog on top of that) in Philip's article thereby fallaciously using argument from authority while meanwhile, any discussion about observations (ie, what a scientific argument ought to be about) is ignored. Gold star for Philip! talk 11:31, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
- I thought Moran was the dedicated atheist scientist who had to admit creation was true because ... something. The way I read the document used for that quote he seems to say no such thing. I could be wrong though. PJR wrote a lengthy rebuttal to my quote mine accusation. Hamster (talk) 01:24, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Pffft. There's no such thing as a creationist quote mine in PJRworld. And all's fair in character attacks on evolutionists. talk 01:47, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

I wonder if it's ever occurred to Sir Philip that ALL of creationist is against the laws of physics, and even if we accept Davie's argument that information increase is against the laws of physics (undeveloped at all; simply asserted on ASK, and wrong certainly in a Shannon sense and even in a qualitative), the problem is far worse for creationism. talk 14:56, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
- I dont think he gets that far. Oh gee, I see he has made more edits.. I wish he would quit and let the site stagnate, now I should read what he wrote... the stupid , it burns .. hehehehe . Hamster (talk) 15:41, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
- I don't think he'll stop until the internet stop talking to him. After all, he gets to PWN it everytime. talk 16:17, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

- If I'm responsible, I apologize for getting us sucked in there. Although, I call getting a quote from someone creationist-friendly showing that creationists contradict other creationists into an article to be all-win. talk 21:12, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
- I love ya, buddy. But I hate you for getting me looking at that shit show again. 22:20, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
- you can stop now. I think everyone told Philip off and left ;-) Hamster (talk) 23:11, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
- He's been in really rough shape for the last year or so. That 119k wall of text on his WP page was alarming. He's basically alienated every single person who was willing to give him any charity. Hamster, I've talked to Sterile about this, but I'm curious what your take on him is. He doesn't tell the truth. Do you think he does it because he's brainwashed by his cult or because he's a liar. i've caught him out lying at least once. I think others have too. But generally - do you think he really believes this shit? 01:09, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
- I have taken it as a combination of several things. Lack of science education in high school, religious views and his character. By character I mean his tendancy to pick the big picture apart and focus on each tiny bit, regardless of it making a difference or not. He shows a complete distrust of science and falls back on a few creationist websites and people. His behavior to me on occasion is very close to putting your fingers in your ears and saying "pardon me , but I didnt hear that , lalalalala" .
- I think I am giving it a rest. I sometimes wonder how close to breakdowns people are, and PJR does not seem that stable. I have always wondered if Lowkey is real or a PJR puppet.

- That poor guy thought it would be interesting to talk to Philip. I've been reading up on cults in the last week. CMI and AiG seem to fit the bill pretty well. Maybe I'll write it up. 13:11, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
- Hammy, just look here generally to see what the guy was putting up with - 6-12k posts filled with TQs. After a while, Philip was ignored or simply shut down when he was pressing some nonsense on the Expelled page. Sterile's got it. Nobody wants to talk to or hear from him. I have no idea what compels any of us to want to be anywhere near such a dishonest prick. 13:13, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

You have to remember this is someone who has wiki for which the premise is faith is evidence. I mean, there have been paragraphs as well as walls of text in which he talks himself into contradictions. He's identified fallacies in one sentence just to use them in the next. This is someone who has spent years telling Awc and me he'd defined information, yet he couldn't tell me where and he couldn't repeat it, and outright rejected the lack of "nothingness" in the face of multiple sources. He'd be a great case study in cognitive dissonance, which is probably why he is so nasty. talk 13:57, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
- I remember catching him lying about a resolution somehow being evidence of bias or discrimination against creationists or some such nonsense. He seems to think that all he has to do is deny that he intended to speak a falsehood, despite defending it to the death, even after being shown it was incorrect, and then bully the editor with a demand for "retraction" and apology. That seems to me to not only be the essence of deceit in this context, but particularly nasty deceit. He is never wrong. 16:34, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

- I dunno. Acey hasn't said enough to really get blocked, and Awcky is still more polite than the rest of us. I'm just tired of Philip's fantasy world, I guess. talk 01:49, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Sorry[edit]
Apparently I'm a failure at edit conflicts, since an edit conflict caused me to accidentally delete your last Saloon Bar post. My apologies for that. I rolled back my failure of an edit as soon as I noticed my mistake. - GrantC (talk) 16:11, 17 October 2013 (UTC) Not to worry, my posts are mainly crap anyway. Funeral Songs[edit]
Hello! I had a listen to the Annie Lennox song but it was too sad. I hope funeral songs isn't a horrible way to say hello. But I thought I'd share that Turn, Turn, Turn (Chris deBurgh cover) is on my funeral song list. Hopefully neither of us will need them soon & I hope your heart is getting better :-) --Barryjon (talk) 23:48, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
