Old boat poop[edit]

I moved your template to template:global flood over an earlier failed version. We usually use "xxxxnav" for the boxes that link to every article, at the bottom of a page. Anyway, feel free to deploy it and reduce the "see also"s if you think it makes sense. If what you really wanted was a navbox at the bottom that listed every article, feel free to use your previous template name and assemble it. ħumanUser talk:Human 00:36, 3 February 2009 (EST)

Deleting my own WIGO[edit]

You reverted my deletion. Am I not allowed to delete my own WIGO? I just don't want to have to see the score keep going down. It's at -11 right now. - Cuckoo 17:08, 18 February 2009 (EST)

From the WIGO page:
Do not remove items from the list unless you believe they are legally slanderous or otherwise likely to be "detrimental to RationalWiki". Comment out () an item if you think it's really an issue. If you think an item is not worthwhile, just vote it down - "one man's boredom is another man's lulz".
There's nothing about an exception for deleting your own WIGO. Heck, I've had WIGO scores much lower. No one in their right mind is going to track it back to you and removing it is almost like censoring dissent. I know, it sucks and honestly, I don't really give a shit. So if you remove it again, I'm not going to war with you, but I don't think it should be removed (and I think that is the consensus). Neveruse513 17:19, 18 February 2009 (EST)

Well, when I posted a duplicate item by accident recently, someone else deleted it. So I figured that the rules weren't quite so firm. - Cuckoo 22:13, 18 February 2009 (EST)

No one should delete them because it upsets the poll numbers. - User \pi 22:15, 18 February 2009 (EST)
The rules are rigid because it totally screws up the polling. If you must "make it go away" just comment it out, as it says in the owner's manual. ħumanUser talk:Human 22:26, 18 February 2009 (EST)

The "bible guide" project had started days before I got here, a year or so ago, and it was a natural fit (I have this useless ABD in Religious Studies)... but some how those last few books are so hard to finish. mostly cause... well, they are like 1 page long and don't say anything. SES application[edit]

I don't think we should publish Addison's name (or any of the homeschooler's names, if they're in there) and I don't think he can give us permission to do so. It's of questionable legality, I think, since he is a minor. IANAL, of course, but on the other hand I think it's also of questionable taste too. --Arcan ¡ollǝɥ 18:50, 3 April 2009 (EDT)

I would suggest teh copy we eventually host on RW have (perhaps) all names redacted. I hope ones that travel via private channels have no redactions beyond what the State of New Jersey thinks appropriate. Hint hint. ħumanUser talk:Human 21:15, 3 April 2009 (EDT)
I'm a lawyer, but I'm not giving you legal advice when I say that anything you obtain from a FOIA request is fair game for publication. Don't be pussies. Nutty Roux 21:19, 3 April 2009 (EDT)
It's not a matter of being pussies. If it's legal, fine, I was wrong. I still don't think it's right to include the kids' names. They already have Andy for a teacher; haven't they suffered enough? --Arcan ¡ollǝɥ 22:27, 3 April 2009 (EDT)
I concur with Arcan--we try not to pick on their homework assignments--outing minors on a wiki that's less than "family-friendly" seems a little problematic to me...TheoryOfPractice 22:33, 3 April 2009 (EDT)
I'd like to do this in best possible taste. It's only first names (sometimes with last initial) next to a few endorsements. I asked Addison and he said it was no concern of his. This being a public record, anything that should be redacted would have been redacted in the copy delivered to me.
That said, I have no problem redacting the first names of students/parents. Neveruse513 12:34, 4 April 2009 (EDT)
If it was a matter of privacy, thestate would have expunged the names from the record. Anyone who really wanted to could find out the names. Print them. The EmperorKneel before Zod! 12:37, 4 April 2009 (EDT)

Children deserve better than to have a bunch of assholes like ourselves use them as the butt of our jokes and in our silly wiki wars. TheoryOfPractice 12:42, 4 April 2009 (EDT)

(EC)I'm still messing around with teh scanning. XSANE apparently only supports 600 dpi and it's looking a little rough so I might have to take it to a windoze bawx to get a nice 1200. I'm fine with delivering copies with no further redactions to interested parties. If the consensus is to further redact them before public posting, that's fine too. Its a bit of a toss up for me. Neveruse513 12:40, 4 April 2009 (EDT)

I misunderstood. There's nothing wrong with trying to protect children where appropriate, and I think it's appropriate to leave Andy's unfortunate students out of things as much as possible. This site is bad enough. I was calling you pussies for wanting to redact Addison's name. I don't think the name of any adult identified in the application should be redacted. Nutty Roux 12:45, 4 April 2009 (EDT)

Send me 600 dpi scans in whatever format you want and I will turn them into PDF's, OCR, and redact childrens' names. Nutty Roux 12:47, 4 April 2009 (EDT)

Uncle Ed here would like to have a copy with the kid's names unredacted. The EmperorKneel before Zod! 12:53, 4 April 2009 (EDT)

So in other words, does Andy tolerate Ed in the same way that, say, the Catholic church tolerates its priests? Nutty Roux 12:57, 4 April 2009 (EDT)

Neveruse - I just realized I have Acrobat Pro on my Macbook and it's making some really nice OCRs of the large format images. I'll tweak and tweak until this comes up. I guess the goal is to have relatively true to format text of the application so people can search terms after it's posted on the wiki? Nutty Roux 20:34, 4 April 2009 (EDT)

Yes, that would be ideal. Also, text loads quicker than an image of text. And can be copy/pasted, etc. ħumanUser talk:Human 22:27, 6 April 2009 (EDT)
The resized versions OCR poorly. I realize it's a pain in the butt, but can you email me the large png's? set up email on your user page so I can send you a very important message. Nutty Roux 17:50, 7 April 2009 (EDT)
RE names. We don't KNOW that the quotes are from minors. They are just names in the document and could be 16 or 17. So we should either redact all names or none. I was going to volunteer to OCR some pages myself using Acrobat Pro but it looks like you guys have now got it in hand. Redchuck.gif ГенгисOur ignorance is God; what we know is science. 18:09, 7 April 2009 (EDT)
I actually did a few of the earlier pages with Acrobat Pro and they come out pretty crummy regardless of the quality of the start image. For the amount of time it would take me to doctor them, I may as well just type it all up, as I think someone else is doing. Is there a central place where we're discussing this worthy project? Nutty Roux 18:45, 7 April 2009 (EDT)

Can we file replies to Andy's SES application?[edit]

Do you know? SO much of this stuff is a blatant, shocking lie!-Diadochus 15:14, 4 April 2009 (EDT)

I'm not sure...might be worth looking into. I think the chance of Andy's app being approved are reeaaally low. Neveruse513 15:23, 4 April 2009 (EDT)

OK, I'll get to grips with a couple of things. In fact, I'll let out my heart to you.

Right now, the urge to troll and continue this charade is overwhelming. What I really want to do is purge some of RWs articles of its insanity and use bombastic polemic in the process. However, I dislike being universally despised. So I thought the whole 'squeaky clean' image might get me somewhere, but it just appears ingenuine.

My problem is that I would like to rewind to the way things were 4 or 5 days ago, but now that would be impossible. Were I to use strong language I would not be taken seriously and immediately regarded as a troll - even for things like the Ann Coulter charade where I was deadly serious. Whatever happens, RW has removed a potent threat to its ego and replaced it with cuddly and irrelevant accusations of 'trolling' instead. MarcusCicero (talk) 20:38, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Amazing how much you resemble CUR/Arthur when you do stuff like this. He refused to just drop the attention-seeking, roll up his sleeves and just get on with things too. NU, please excuse the intrusion. MC, you might or might not know by now that many of "us" disagree endlessly and over many things. But the way we resolve our differences is not (usually) through "bombastic polemic" - we state our case and others chime in. I'd recommend the same course of action if you care about the content of our articles. If you just want to be a thorn/prick in our side, to be the "too cool to join" and refer to us in the second person, and engage in "bombastic polemic"s, well, yeah, you're gonna get pissed on. ħumanUser talk:Human 04:32, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

By the way, there is nothing I could possibly say that could make you seem any more ridiculous, Irrational. Do I sound too provocative? Just let me know if you think so.

"As gay as it gets"[edit]

I like you. You seem witty! LimpWrist (talk) 21:12, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! I hope you're enjoying yourself here. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 21:14, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
For the most part. It looks like there's some site politics going on, which, being new, I'm avoiding at all costs. But, other than that, everyone here seems pretty cool. LimpWrist (talk) 21:17, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, there's always something going on behind the curtain. It's important to remember that a lot of us are only parodying the system and aren't really taking it seriously. It depends what you're here to do. You can make this place as serious or as fun as you want it to be. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 21:23, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Currently, the general atmosphere has taken a steep dive into the serious. I still have no idea how the joke suggestion of a Miniluv group actually got turned into a workable proposal. Broccoli (talk) 21:55, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
I know, right? A lot of shit can happen on the weekends. I'm hoping it will settle this week and that the new cabal will fade away or become deliciously impotent. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 21:57, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Ah, the pendulum will climb out of the mire (to shamelessly mix metaphors, rather than drinks) and it'll be silly again. Although hopefully with a bit more solid "back end", as programmers and gay men might say. --Kels (talk) 21:58, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Just you wait. I might not even wait until the voting is in before I unleash the hounds on you. Your pathetic reign of McCarthyite terror has met its Waterloo. Do you hear me?!?!?!? WATERLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! TheoryOfPractice (talk) 21:46, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Dy'know, I've only just realised how much my life sucks. The wife is away for the night, I've just lost 2 poker tournaments because I suck at poker, and so now I'm sitting here watching QI, waiting for someone I know to log onto Skype just so I have someone to talk to, and looking at the recent changes on RW which is just comments like this. Mass bitching at each other. This place used to be nice. I used to think I belonged somewhere. And now I'm just sitting here feeling like shit. Thanks guys. CrundyTalk nerdy to me 21:51, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
...and people say I have no sense of humour. When I'm done stomping on Neveruse, Crundy, you're next. You hear me? NEXT. WATERLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! TheoryOfPractice (talk) 21:53, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
It may very well be my Waterloo, TOP, but I think it will be much more like the Alamo. I know you've got the rest of the flock eating out of your hands. I don't know how anyone could fall for it, but they have. I'm prepared to stand my ground, even if doom is impending, because I'm willing to fight for what I believe in. One day, they'll look back on this and know that I was right. They will never forget. And they will never forgive (YOU). You'll be railroaded out of town on the Neveruse Commemorative Railroad. Mark my words. You will rue this day. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 21:57, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

You shouldn't take things seriously when you know they're not serious. I could give a fuck about accidentally crossing your imaginary lines. He's a pseudoscientist and utter douchebag who gets a free ride to push his ridiculous and illogical beliefs simply because he has nothing better to do than defend them. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 18:53, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
In that sentence, 'push' means 'talk about'. Super. -- =w= 18:54, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
No, push means revert and go on and on and on until resistors give up. He's a psuedoscientist and will never stop trying to justify himself. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 18:56, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
  1. That still isn't what push means in the real world.
  2. 'never stop trying to justify himself' - Yes that's what people do.
90% of what he does is great. The other 10% is shit. He should be under various topic bans. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 19:03, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
I'm really glad we don't have topic bans. -- =w= 19:05, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
(EC) Neveruse, I was not "gloating" in that section. I do not appreciate gothar involving themselves in politics at all, and I do not appreciate unsubstantiated accusations of article ownership. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 19:04, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
Unsubstantiated claims of article ownership? You're fucking insane. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 19:06, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
He obviously meant 'unsubstantiated' in the sense that you didn't substantiate them. I can see your confusion. -- =w= 19:07, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
Fuck off for a second Mei... That I would even have to justify these allegations, like there's anyone who cares who hasn't been witness to LX's ownership of the article is insulting. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 19:08, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult you. Stop being angry. -- =w= 19:09, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
It does make me angry that this douchebag parades himself around as a rational person, owns his pet article and defends it until no one else can stand it, then denies all of it. It'd be like me denying him calling him a douchebag until he actually trots out the evidence we all know exists. I don't see why I have to go through the motions when anyone who gives a shit already knows. The only thing "substantiating" his ownership of the article would do is give him another endless tangent about "ownership" and "cooperation" and "rationality" and somehow "Goedel's Incompleteness Theorem". It's his game to be a blowhard, esoteric douchebag. I'm not playing. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 19:15, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
zomg, how is Gödel involved? -- =w= 19:18, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
He proved that not everything true is provable. An esoteric point, yes, but an earth-shattering one.
Neveruse, obvious truths are much more easily substantiated than most. On the other hand you appear to have no substantiations whatever for your claims. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 19:32, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
EC I knew that part, I just didn't see the relevance. I should have guessed really. -- =w= 19:36, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
+ it's not that esoteric. -- =w= 19:37, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
Like I said, I'm not playing your endless games just because you have nothing better to do. I'm thoroughly enjoying your delusions, though...You're just a rational guy who doesn't own that article! — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 19:35, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
If you decline to "play [my] endless games," if that is how you refer to the requirement that accusations be substantiated before being swallowed whole, I suggest you drop any further dispute. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 19:43, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

You're back?[edit]

JPatt's "values"[edit]

Man you just beat me to it.. Since you commented your edit with "Still needs work", I took a stab at it. As far as I know, it's not illegal to link to anything illegal
That is interesting because I think that was the defense TPB used in their actual trial - they don't actually host anything, they're really just a specialized search engine. In theory, the case is a new precedent in filesharing legality, but I wouldn't bet on it. Even if we take TPB as typical, there's no reason to expect legal complications unless we link to specific things to download. Although I am not a lawyer, just a bored geek, so probably none of this is true. Mei (talk) 21:23, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
