Sysop Crap & Howto[edit]
Yes, I have the mighty power. Or, obligation. Mostly it means cleaning up namespace misteaks, but I suppose one day we will have to deal with wandalism from bored middle school students. In the meantime, one thing I can do for you is delete accidentally mistitled articles. You move them and fix any links, and then let me know, by adding a new header (by clicking on the "+" sign above), please, and I will delete the embarrassing error.
How to archive vandalism[edit]
- Create the archive page if it does not exist.
- Do this by adding a "Vandalism to this page" section at the bottom of the article
- With a link like this: [[talk:articlename/vandalism]]. Follow the red link to create the page.
- It should have sections, like funny vandalism, dumb vandalism, pwnage, etc.
- Include the template {{archivedvandalism}} at the top of the archive page.
- Copy the vandalism to it (with appropriate context), the time, editor, date, difflink, whatever makes sense.
- Repair the article. I think that's about it.
Thanks[edit]
for the prompt welcome Human! I am very new to Wiki based stuff, so i would really appreciate any resources you could recommend to get me started on the wiki road and thus one step further in my crusade against Conservapedia. — Unsigned, by: TJ / talk / contribs
- You're welcome, TJ! The first "wiki trick" to learn is how to easily "sign" your comments on talk pages. You either type four tildes, like this: ~~~~ after your comment, or use the little edit box above that is to the right of the "W" with a red circle and line over it. Either one puts a link to your page and a timestamp on your comment. And, we all started out as noobs once, and most of us remember how we learned bit by bit, so feel free to ask anyone how they did anything you wish you knew how to do. humanbe in 17:09, 8 August 2007 (CDT)
About the Lennon userbox[edit]
It is now so that Template:User_Lennon, the original, has the gender-specific thing, but since it's changed, your userbox has the annoying {{{1}}} in it, so I'm gonna change it back to "they're", I'm sure you don't mind. You can change it to "he's" or something, if you want to. YB indeed! 10:23, 9 August 2007 (CDT)
- Oh, cool. I was thinking that when I saw the "new" one - that it would be all we need for every version people wanted. Thanks for fixing mine! (and letting me know) humanbe in 12:33, 9 August 2007 (CDT)
evolution[edit]
I thought they were good edits. Bohdan
- Of course you did :) But then, you're the resident vandal! Anyway, when the phrase "only a theory" gets used, it belies a complete lack of understanding of scientific terminology. The editing style was vandalistic - ie, inserting an anti-science POV without discussing in "talk", done by an IP. humanbe in 13:25, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
Friendly message from Project whitewash[edit]
You are receiving this message because you signed up to participate at project whitewash. If you no longer want to here from me about this then just remove your name or let me know. I want to create a push to get as thorough coverage as possible for two new categories the first is Category:Best of RationalWiki and the second is Category:Almost the best of RationalWiki. Both categories should tell you what belongs in each. If you could take some time to go through the article space and the essay space and label these with the corresponding categories it would be very helpful. Godspeed. tmtoulouse annoy 13:39, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
Why - baffled?[edit]
On this page fun:Two is 'wanted'
http://www.rationalwiki.com/index.php?title=Special:Wantedpages&limit=50&offset=100
On this page fun:Two is there!
why? Keep me in the DARK 16:26, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
- Why, indeed? The article exists, and all three (not two as the "wanted" list says) files that link to it show blue links. Perhaps it is some glitch in the "wanted"list generation, but in my experience, when you make the article, it is gone from the wanted list immediately. Maybe Linus or Trent (tmtououse) could figure it out. Until then, well, we have a nice little baffling contradiction to enjoy! humanbe in 19:06, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
Userboxen[edit]
Thanks. Glad you like them. I encourage people to steal them, if they desire. At WP I'm rather anti-userbox, and have only used about two I made as parodies, but here I decided to go whole hog. DickTurpis 19:58, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
problem[edit]
I don't care how much someone hates Reagan, the "This user fondly remembers John Hinckley" userbox has to go. It is insulting, and disgusting. In the name of being "rational", please delete. Bohdan 20:09, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
- You know, I thought it was offensive, too - a bit edgy. I also thought HG's FDR with the hammer and sickle on his forehead was. And a few others I can't remember. Right now two things come up: one, we encourage userbox activism; two, it is his user page. A saved version would have to pass the "mob" test. Keep in mind we also allowed HG to save and use a box that CP denied him! (The constition party one) Also keep in mind that he cannot be said to be promoting assassinating a president (or ex-P), since Reagan has already gone to his eternal reward. Obviously, feel free to bring it to the "mob"s attention - this are just my opinions on the matter.
- PS, where's my damn goat? I want my goat back. The newt got better on its own, at least. humanbe in 20:16, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
- I gave your goat to PalMD. Evidently he sold it or something. I say there is a difference between calling FDR a communist, and apparently delighting in the attempted assasination (assasination=murder, of course) of one of the US's *greatest* presidents. I'm glad to hear that you found it offensive also. Bohdan
HG[edit]
Did he leave? I suddenly realize I am the only conservative left. Bohdan
- Forgive my sarcasm, but apparently when we took away his gun (sysopship), he no longer wanted to play with us. But, well, I'm sure (?) he'll be back. And you're not the only conservative here. At the very least, there is your fellow CP sysop Hojimajong. And there's "Newton", who is CP sysop Conservative. Although, I think he got bored of gloating about his ToE article and went away. To say nothing of the "lurkers", hehe. ("Hi!") Which brings up a point - can you help us find some more conservatives to join? And I don't mean truth-haters, I just mean honest people intererested in editing who just happen to be in other parts of the political spectrum. PS, do you think it would be funny, or even useful, to have you be a sysop here? (Think of the bragging rights! A sysop on CP and RW! That's almost WP worthy of note!) humanbe in 21:52, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
- I am trying to get someone to join right now actually. He is a conservative, but more interested about discussing philosophy though, not science or politics. In other words, he is no fun. Bohdan
- Hey, I'm also a semi-accomplished (got an "A" in the senior seminar as a freshman!) philosophy fan! Please, if he joins, make sure he gets the respect he deserves. And, remember, theoretically "we" aren't about politics - the only reason it comes up is that the current "neocon" or "con" in US politics is scientifically illiterate and insane. And, sadly (for the ROW), they control the cruise missiles. humanbe in 23:13, 10 August 2007 (CDT)

Per our conversation on donations[edit]
So after much fiddling and tweaking I have managed to get an extension to allow forms to work on the wiki and also managed to get the "paypal button" to work. That means the support page no longer has to reside off the wiki and is now at RationalWiki:Site support. So if you want to go in there and edit the text to better communicate than please do. If you need any additional info from me just let me know. tmtoulouse annoy 16:58, 11 August 2007 (CDT)

Block[edit]
I have acheived my goal of a ten million year block, but I can still edit? What is it with this site? It must be divine intervention that keeps me here, even though I am blocked, and it seems unable to be unblocked. Its a wiki-miracle! Bohdan 21:19, 12 August 2007 (CDT)
- I'll have to accept your explanation until another one turns up. Blessed be her unshod hooves! All bow down before her beauty and power! humanbe in 21:23, 12 August 2007 (CDT)

Are you a bureaucrat? GdlessLiberal 20:16, 13 August 2007 (CDT)
- No, human is just my sock puppet. Bohdan
- Well, Bohdan, switch to your other account and de-sysop me! I am getting busy with real life and to spend even less time here. GdlessLiberal 20:33, 13 August 2007 (CDT)
- Here I be. I suspect I am, yes. How on earth an illiterate potty mouth like me got demoted that far is only a sign of how much RW is contributing to the decline of Western Civilization. That, and liberal math. And, oh yeah, that nefarious liberal Neville Chamberlain. Why, did you need something cratly bureaud? humanbe in 20:33, 13 August 2007 (CDT)
- Yeah, I was requesting promotion to normal user. GdlessLiberal 20:44, 13 August 2007 (CDT)
- OK, I guess that makes sense if you won't be around much, as it stops exalted "normal users" from pestering you with admnistrative work. And it stops Bohdan from asking you to unblock him when my keyboard slips in too many digits of pi (those seconds add up fast!). I'll go do it after I save this. Anytime you want, of course, you can come back and ask for redemotion. humanbe in 20:46, 13 August 2007 (CDT)

HG (again)[edit]
Is it just sour grapes, is it WP:WP:point, or is he crazy? tmtoulouse annoy 22:33, 13 August 2007 (CDT)
- I'd say 20%/75%/5%. Oh wait, that's me being nice about his politcal and religious views. Revised to include liberal atheist bias and liberal mathematical atheism and atheistic liberal "amock"ness, I make it about 2%/7%/93%. I am not exactly impressed with his contributions since his return (IE, today). humanbe in 22:39, 13 August 2007 (CDT)
- If he would engage the talk pages constructively whatever, but he is not "talking" he is just vandalizing. tmtoulouse annoy 22:40, 13 August 2007 (CDT)
- Yes... that WP link you sent me to describes very well what he seems to do out of frustration (or whatever). Like his "move" vandalism. Or that inane MN bridge "article". Even when he was pointing out relatively useful things to fix, if he didn't get immediate satisfaction, rather than explaining more clearly and waiting a few days, he'd get all het up and start getting nasty - usually in edit comments and hidden text on files. The site has slowly become littered with random pointless files that imploded since his point was usually "liberals are wrong" rather than something specific. Oh well... I'm sure "we" are wrong half the time, but rather than bide his time and succeed at becoming the smart guy who would point out our blind spots/lazinesses/etc. "as one of us", he became a sort of one-man opposition. humanbe in 12:34, 14 August 2007 (CDT)
