Don't bite the n00bs[edit]
I noticed your comment on Defiant Elements' attempted article. While I understand your want to call things as they are, I do think that we should take a lighter touch with newcomers, and try not to word things so brutally when criticizing their efforts. Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 03:09, 24 January 2009 (EST)
For an example, I think a better way of putting your criticism would've been "I copyedited this a bit, but I still don't get what its trying to say. It's nice that you made an article, but it makes no point, addresses no issue, and has no footnotes or references. If the author wants to keep it, they can move it to their userspace, otherwise I think it should be deleted." It may seem overly civil to you, but this version manages to get the point across while still acknowledging the earnestness of their efforts. Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 03:09, 24 January 2009 (EST)
- I just saw how you did exactly that (more or less) on Defiant Elements' talk page. I realize you don't need to be lectured by me when it comes to talking with newcomers. However, I still think that your initial comment on the article's talk page was too brusque, and I think it would be better to avoid such cavalier treatment of them. Dear EddyP,
We regret to inform you that you have been demoted to the rank of sysop. You are requested to report to a bureaucrat, at your nearest possible convenience, to be assigned a mop, bucket and taser for the purposes of cleaning up the mess around here. If you have any further questions please refer to the enclosed pamphlet So you are now a sysop.
Your Sincerely,

Looking for v. sekrit way to ask about a sock[edit]
So I have a sock on CP and right now the edits I'm making aren't a direct challenge to anything obvious, but sooner or later I will "accidentally" criticize an organization near and dear to the hearts of several high level CP sysops (no, not the moonies). I'm wondering if you know of a way by which I can talk with someone who has had more experience with CP to ask about how far I can push this without it getting reverted. I'd like to do this without doing it where Ed or Andy could see it. As of right now, I'm trying to fly under the radar, not gunning for a sysopship. (I am not asking for cabal membership or anything like that, more is there a way to allow people to email me through RW/a way I could email a long time RW citizen?) Thank you kindly and vaya con dios. Hactar 15:28, 30 January 2009 (EST)
- Ignoring your "purpose", since the only experience I have with it is reading about what people have done on here, to answer your question, yes, if you enable email in your "preferences", you can privately email any user who has also done so. To address your purpose, as I was reading, my first thought was "find someone who seems to have experience with this and email them". Certainly a few sock puppeteers of various stripes seem to be contributors here, and you may also be able to find others by following the various blogs and forums out there where CP gets discussed - I often see unfamiliar names posting about experiences on CP (although of course they might be here under other user names). I don't really see the point, though, CP is funnier without interlopers - that is to say, Andy or Ed et al are much more entertaining than, say, Bugler was. ħuman 16:00, 30 January 2009 (EST)

- Yah, me too (<30). But there was a lag between the last one you did, I was afraid you had, as I said, been put to sleep or some such real world intrusion on our real work. Actually, what I tend to do is a sort of "overlapping flow" thing on work like that - open 20 or so tabs, click edit on them all, start fixing the first ones to load and hit save, by then I can close some and open ten more. Not that it matters, now that we have the RAbot ;) ħuman 22:20, 31 January 2009 (EST)

In all fairness[edit]
Hey, I left a bit of a scree on RA's talk page, and it really wouldn't be fair if I didn't also post it on your talk page. I haven't been paying much attention, and I don't know who's more strongly holding this grudge, but it clearly still exists.
“”Closure sounds great in teen angst poetry, but it doesn't happen in real life. And by God, you would think you weren't just talking about a bunch of internet bullshit to begin with, listening to this drama. Seriously. Take a walk, get laid, get some perspective. Make some bad decisions, then come back and consider dominionism and fundamentalism. CorryIt is a rock, though. Should beat everything. 01:31, 17 February 2009 (EST)

- Thanks for the cc. I mostly want him to shut up with the accusations, so I called him out to follow up. I know it's just a dusty corner of the innertubes and all, and doesn't matter, but I really don't like being accused of abuse and brutality by another well-respected editor without evidence, etc. As I said, thanks for the cc. ħuman 01:45, 17 February 2009 (EST)

Indents[edit]
So, remember long ago you and I were trying to solve the problem of using indentations on the Schlafly Generator template? Whelp, I finally figured out what the problem is. Turns out MediaWiki needs all of the text in the same paragraph, not only in appearance, but in the actual page. That is:
<choose><option>Hi my name is CUR</option><option>Hi my name is Andy Schwafwy</option></choose>
Instead of
<choose>
<option>Hi my name is CUR</option>
<option>Hi my name is Andy Schwafwy</option>
</choose>
I did a preview test on the actual generator, and it works fine. I haven't implemented the fix yet, however, as it kind of makes the thing a bitch to edit. Any thoughts? -- YossarianThe Man from the USSR 21:26, 17 February 2009 (EST)
- Have you tried using
<choose><!--

It may work. - User 21:33, 17 February 2009 (EST)

- "Π" (obviously not your real name), lack of Bible reading is so prevalent among agnostics that that the insight is clearly self-evident. I skimmed through your recent edits and you say you don't believe Jesus is God, so it's obvious to me you're insane from San Francisco values. I urge you, I beseech you, I beg you: accept that Obama refuses to salute the flag and that including the phrase "under God" in The Pledge of Allegiance stops autism. You can whine all you want, but Barack Hussein Obama is no more a Christian than Saddam Hussein was. No Christian would say "my Muslim faith," even when tired or confused. Yeah, but I was bored today and fancy having the powers back. Was wondering if I could remain a sysop, without doing any editing, and won't block anyone. Basically I'll just log in when I'm bored, threaten a few editors with indefinate blocks, and then disappear again. Is that ok? MarcusCicero 11:12, 26 February 2009 (EST) (I'm a little high)

Kendoll Pictures[edit]
I've been kicking around ideas for the Ken Quote Generator and I was wondering... Is there anyway we could get like a random picture page? if nothing else, even a bot that could go through and add a [[Image:Penguin.jpg]] Type picture links to a page... I was thinking that if we could do that, we could add options to all of them and randomize inside another template... What do you think? SirChuckBPenguin Knight, First Class 23:12, 4 March 2009 (EST)
- It should be do-able. If you look at the "sex" template, it lists 13 random articles from the category it adds to pages. Since I think people have been catting our images (better idea in a moment) it should be possible to add a carefully crafted link (or embed the image) randomly. Better idea on top of that - add "category:kendoll image" to selected images and pick only from among them. ħuman 23:10, 4 March 2009 (EST) (PS, you left an unclosed nowiki tag that borked your sig.)
- Oh, good idea... I'll get started on that tonight before bed. SirChuckBPenguin Knight, First Class 23:12, 4 March 2009 (EST)

Obscure books[edit]
Please explain to me why we have something that the *only* reason it's there, is cause someone listed it on a "guide to the bible" list. To say that "someone might write it" would be the same logic as to say "someone might right an article on the first poem written by Shakespeare, so I should red link it". At some point you ask "what does this serve, and who wants it". 49 references are not cause we write about it 49 times, but because the template shows up 49 times on pages, with a list of books no one even knows are in the bible. That's my argument. Same argument, by the way, for why I think all the indepth math articles are out of place here. They do nothing to further any "mission".--En attendant Godot"«I think like a genius, I write like a distinguished author, and I speak like a child. --V.Nabokov» 23:56, 14 March 2009 (EDT)
