Ask me to leave[edit]
And I will leave. And you'll have a nice little choir. As I said, liberals have their eyes wide shut. It is intentional. Don't care about truth. Sunshine conservation pricing is clearly not even possible given that the story was just released on 7/03. But I would expect it to occur in about 30 years short of some population decimating event. Heart♥GoldCry Like a little girl 22:05, 21 July 2007 (CDT)
- I'm not asking you to leave - yet. Don't mind the choir. We sing well together, not that you would like our harmonies. Thanks for the offer to throw yourself on your sword. No, I'm mostly thinking, have you experienced enough to launch your own wiki (the one you mention on your user page) yet? I am also, seriously, still composing my advice, etc., relative to that, so at least until then, well, dang, you're here, eh? (I loves my Canadian!) Sunshine pricing, well, it's a great parody, let's say, of water conservation (by the way, toilets do spoil water - "potable water") but will it happen? Hey, maybe, in the great state experiment that is Oregon or Washington. Will it fly in the union? Probably not. Many states offer themselves as incubators of ideas, and some are so large that their standards get "forced" on the rest of the nation (like CA). That, I think, is one of the cool things about our republic. But, your table of sunshine pricing.... well, it's not based on anything, is it? If it was, it would be interesting! I could see a requirement coming up of "for every sq. yd. for human consumption, one must be set aside for native species" or some such. Ironically, I welcome milkweed to my garden (and plant seeds), to support the beleaguered Monarch Butterfly. I guess I am voluntarily participating? Oh, by the way, I also own a nine acre "swamp". It does not bother me that it is federally protected, at all. I only wish I could do things to make it a more effective wetland. Anyway, I ramble in my liberal way. humanbe in 22:30, 21 July 2007 (CDT)
- I've decided against doing a Christian wiki encyclopedia. People who want to figure out the truth, those that don't want to walk through life with their eyes wide shut.
- The conservation pricing is based on a real world water conservation pricing scheme, in which liberals in my state try to empathize with real problems in other parts of the country and world. Meanwhile, if I dig a well on my own property, I am allowed to pump 10,000 gallons per day without any fee or permit, and the water would taste great and not require any treatment whatsoever (unless you get cavities in your stomach and believe fluoridating water will help). We have no water shortage, but we do have water conservation pricing. (We do also have some short term problems, e.g., peak demand problems, that conservation pricing does not address. Temporary watering restrictions address peak demand issues, e.g., even/odd watering--at least until we update the municipal water pump). The sunshine example is ludicrous on its face. Water conservation pricing is not (because many parts of the country and world do have such problems). Heart♥GoldCry Like a little girl 22:50, 21 July 2007 (CDT)
- I, as most (all) of my neighbors do, have a private well. 10,000 gallons a day? I couldn't afford the electricity! Although, a company is trying to drill some wells and pump a million gallons a day, to ship to Europe and sell as, I don't know what? "New England Spring Water"? Most towns around here enact watering bans, since the lakes and rivers we use for their water systems run low in the summer. Heart of Gold's de-sysopping[edit]
While Heart's been letting his political agenda get the better of his sanity lately, I haven't seen him abusing the sysop powers. The English language, facts, history, and basic logic, yes.... but not the sysop powers. (Mind you, I might just not have noticed, not caring much about RW politics.) (And this will probably lead to another round of "Help, help, I'm being oppressed!", and nobody wants that...) --Gulik 02:13, 22 July 2007 (CDT)
- I agree with Gulik. ɧєɭıסş-get sunburn! 03:20, 22 July 2007 (CDT)
- So do I. However, HG has also "left" RW. I also discovered, after doing the deed which I realized might be wrong and get undone soon, that he had blocked himself indefinitely. So I created a conundrum - by desysopping him, I made it so he can't unblock himself. So I propose this, for now: I'll unblock him, since we don't do infinite anyway, and he might "need" access to the site. He has requested in a reply to a pmail I sent him to be "retired", so I'll archive his talk page and put "retired" templates on his talk and user pages. I'll probably leave his John 3:16 thing on below the retired tag. If he returns I see no reason why he should not be resysopped, since, as Gulik pointed out, he never abused any of the extra buttons. I welcome any further commentary on this, including any chastisements due me. humanbe in 13:11, 22 July 2007 (CDT)
- As I am just now starting to emerge from a self induced depressive episode and re-engaging reality, I must say that I don't have the full story on what happened. I am inclined to agree that unblocking HG is a must, retirement tags can be placed if they were requested. From there I saw we just wait and see what happens, if HG really wants to return he can, but the point of being a sysop is a willingness to engage the site at a level beyond just being a "user" this is the not so fun level of site "janitor" much like what I tried, and am trying, to do with RationalWiki:Project Whitewash. Any sysop demotions post the transition from RW1.0-2.0 should be for people that want the extra buttons in order to improve the site, not just because. Nothing HG is doing he can't do without it, if he wants to be sysop, and I think the same goes for anyone else from now on, it should be because they are willing to take up the jobs most of us don't like doing. tmtoulouse plague 13:23, 22 July 2007 (CDT)

- To bring my opinion and ideological demons into the open, I think that despite our love of free speech as a concept, HG has been destroying the concept of this site with his paranoid rants and the need to constantly respond to him. There are many outlets for him, but unless we have a few dozen more active editors to get actual work done, he really should "retire" from here.--PalMD-Goatspeed! 17:02, 22 July 2007 (CDT)
I realize I haven't been around the last few days--in part a self-imposed break and in part the realities of real life--but I do feel the need to comment. I certainly agree that HG should be allowed back if he wants, but I'm glad, at least for now, he's gone. He was, in many ways, mocking the site and its goals explicitly and implicitly. Part of my imposed break was the need NOT to respond to him. (I learned long ago, if you don't want to be in an edit war, you should not engage in one...) In many ways he was trolling in the worst way--actively trying to provoke--(although some would argue with that definition). I understand the point that he didn't abuse his sysop powers, and I respect that. But to me, provoking others just to get a rise out of someone is enough to de-sysop, although it does have to be defined well, and documented--although it's hard, because it imposes assumptions about people's intentions on them.
In reality our "ideology" is a bit ambiguous--we aren't explicitly "liberal" in our goals--even being against fundamentalism isn't really a liberal ideology--but I think he was distracting our small but dedicated bunch away from anything productive, which is bad. We don't have enough contributors to deal with that. He was extremist in many ways (defining a moderate view as extreme is my defintion of extremist) and he was harming the site. I have no problem with someone defending a point-of-view that is less popular on the site if the person is willing to provide a good argument for that point-of-view, but that's not really what he was doing. My best work was a hand-drawn "Git 'er done" (catch phrase courtesy of American "redneck" comic Larry the Cable Guy) in multpile colors that I forgot to mirror-image. - Can't beat BBC - they're having it real bad down Gloucester way, worse than we did up here (North Notts). I google mapped for a rote to Tewkesbury & it said there wasn't one.
- By the way, what's the beer like over there? In the 60s I worked in & around a US base in S. Germany and the troops just couldn't cope with the strength of the local beer. I could drink them under the table (then I was a 5 ft 3" skinny waif [I still am 5'3" but no longer skinny]). Is there a conservative attitude to alcohol? - Yeah, 20 years ago all the USA had were "lagers", I think. Light tasting, light on alcohol, had to be drunk cold. That, and "michelob". Beer lovers drank heineken when they could get it, or made their own. Around 20 years ago came the microbrewery explosion, and a corresponding range of variety. The main British beers are sold everywhere (well, Bass and Guiness, anyway). Mircobreweries are "everywhere", from two pot operations serving their own bar/restaurant and local area to better known operation. So it's not as bad as it used to be. humanbe in 16:01, 24 July 2007 (CDT)

To make it change, you use the same code as we use at [[rationalWiki:Slogan]] for part of the sig. By the way, as your sig gets "complicated", it makes sense to save it in a subfile of your userpage, and put a link to that in your user prefs. In fact, some people have made it a template completely, so it never turns up as three pages of wiki markup in the source of pages. If you examine tmtoulouse's recent sigs, you'll see what I mean. humanbe in 14:50, 25 July 2007 (CDT)

Wanted Pages[edit]
Human, do you think that the red article list could be pulled out by someone, sorted alpha and replaced as its own page somewhere? It would then be easier for anyone contemplating a new article to check for anything similar already wanted. Or even just alpha sorted where it stands instead of frequency sorted? Keephappy 14:24, 26 July 2007 (CDT)
- I've got an alpha-sorted list of everything that has more than one link to it (way too many with just one-link to do as part of the list). you can view it here ThunderkatzHo! 14:37, 26 July 2007 (CDT)

Hey, admin man, how would I, as a wikinoob, go about making a shiny shiny signature?--Offeep 20:31, 1 August 2007 (CDT) <--not shiny
- Hey, Offeeppy, I wish I could give you a great tutorial all in one. But I'll try to get you started. One way is to edit your "preferences" - under "signature", I think you can click a box that says "custom", or some such, and then enter the wikicode for what you want your sig to be (try to practice it somewhere harmless) in the signature box. What most people do is make a thing they like for their username, and a superscript link to their talk page. Some people go a lot further. If you see a sig you like, look at the source and see how they did it, and, of course, have fun, ask people what they think, ask people how they made theirs, show it off after your witty and brilliant comments on talk pages, and feel free to fine tune it as you get used to wiki markup thingies. humanbe in 00:21, 2 August 2007 (CDT)
I am confused[edit]
I don't know what it is about this site, but I simply cannot stay away. I keep trying to follow-up on my wiki leave promise, but I just keep coming back. Perhaps I have gone crazy. I better have a session with tmtoulouse. I guess I like it here because there is more humor than there is at CP. But of course CP is an encyclopedia. And I don't typicaly vandalize userpages just talk ones. But, I do support the main page breaking news item. What a terrible tradgedy. Resident vandal 00:34, 2 August 2007 (CDT)
- Haha, well, you can't live on conservative red meat alone, right? We may run a little leftwards here, but our jokes are (hopefully) ecumenical. I know our goat is. Once cooked, it doesn't care who eats it! And, yes, CP offers other outlets - if you're ever bored, check my contribs there. I was just puttering around having fun writing encyclopedia articles. (hint, search for "building trades", look around "classical music"). As far as the breaking news thing, chime in at the talk page. Yes, it was a terrible tragedy. So were the Iraqis the USA murdered today. So are so many things every day. My point is not that "we don't care", it's just that we aren't a news site, and also that HG did what he did with no "chat" with anyone else. You'll note that before an edit war erupted, I went to talk to discuss. I expressed my opinion, and maybe, defended it. It took us many days to decide to add our "wisdom of the sages" thing and hwo to do it. Many days of discussion by many people. If I started adding every tragedy that breaks my heart to the main page, well, there'd be nothing but "what bugs Human" there. That is partly what my user page is for. Not the front page. I note that, also, HG deleted out "welcome" message to add his personal copy/paste from CP's front page to our site, while at CP, there are balloons, flowers and trumpets above the "prayers" celebrating 15k entries. What HG did was not heartfelt, it was an angry defacement that he thought "no one could argue with". You will note, that none of his edits were even commented, yet he was essentially editing the "home page" of the whole web site. OK, I'm running on and on. Thanks for your whimsical, and also thoughtful, visit to my little chat box... humanbe in 00:47, 2 August 2007 (CDT)
- Gee, you really did run on and on. Thats probably the longest comment I have ever seen! ecumenical? Yes, if I only knew what that meant. And I hate goats. Hey, what are my true colors that you spoke of earlier? I'm thinking grey. Resident vandal 00:55, 2 August 2007 (CDT)
- Oh, sorry, ecumenical basically means "non-denominational" - like, if you were in a strange town, travelling, you might prefer an ecumenical Christian service to a denominational one, not knowing what denominations are there. The ecumenical (Christian) would stick to the things "all" might agree on. Or, in my example, hopefully find funny. Your true colors are that you are a decent enough person not to allow your name to be used by someone else in an inappropriate way. The edit I linked to on your talk page was what I was referring to. You also prefer to let battles end, or even not to consider them battles. You may remember once, in another land, that you and I traded comments for an evening, namecalling and spite may have arisen, but you were an easy person with whom to find common ground and make peace. That is probably what I like most about you. OK, that and your 4ws0m3 pwn4ge. Grey? Only because you're not sure why you are here, even now. That leaves you, perhaps, not sure what "colors" (in the flag sense) to fly - but there is no reason to raise a flag and fight for it tooth and nail - perhaps you'd be a good mediator? A far better role than combatant, in my general opinion. I'm sorry if my english runs idiomatic and windy, it's my style, but I know it's hard to follow even for native speakers, sometimes. As a mediator, a conciliator, you might still provide this site something it sorely needs from time to time. Along with a little wandalism, of course. humanbe in 02:18, 2 August 2007 (CDT)
- HA! Thats strange you bring that up. Would you believe that I was actually going to post links to taht here ealier today? And that I went back and looked at it on your old, now deleted, talk page? No joke! I'm serious! If I remember correctly it was all about my misplaced attemts at humor, which still get me in trouble from time to time at CP. Resident vandal 02:29, 2 August 2007 (CDT)
- We chatted, of an evening, and shared angries. TK tried to interrupt, but we were "above" his level (ie, smart, trying to "communicate"). Yes, we angered, I drunked, you innocented, but over the hours we made amends, and guess what? (I hope) earned each other's respect! That is why I like you, when you come here and play your antic games, and seek your proper role, and wonder why you're here. Because I know that you are a "real" human being there, behind it all. PS, besides maybe Hoji, you are the only person on CP with a sense of humor!!! I love your little interjections in the middle of insane debates! humanbe in 23:47, 4 August 2007 (CDT)
- I might disagree with you on.... much, but hey, I respect you and think we both enjoy and know the value of humor. We might be the only Liberal atheist and Christian conservative to get along! I love making comments in debates, especially when I am not involved, and have no real knowledge of what is happening! I think sometimes everyone gets a little carried away, and the debates get a little too heated. We could all benefit from a little humor. Bohdan 00:00, 5 August 2007 (CDT)

No Follow Links?[edit]
What is a 'no follow' link? It's new to me but reading between the lines it seems to be one that won't be picked up by google bots. If this is so would it be an idea to make links to cp, b4b & any other site of ridicule into such links?
I might be going up a totally loopy road here but on the offchance I'm not then every time we refer to a mad site, we're increasing its hit rate, or not??
The reason I ask is I've been reading conswervapædia's moans about wp, and they might be right for once.
Keep your distance, punk! 17:58, 4 August 2007 (CDT)
- No follow links are exactly that, a way to tell bot engines not to follow them and not to count them as a "vote" for the site. Wikipedia implemented it into media wiki to fight spam. Its actually a massively controversial move. However, intrawiki links should not be no-follow. So if you do [http://conservapedia.com ] it will be no follow but [[cp:conservapedia]] will not be no-follow. tmtoulouse plague 18:21, 4 August 2007 (CDT)

Comment[edit]
I like this quote:
“”If you wish to glimpse inside a human soul and get to know a man, don't bother analyzing his ways of being silent, of talking, of weeping, of seeing how much he is moved by noble ideas; you will get better results if you just watch him laugh. If he laughs well, he's a good man." --Feodor Dostoyevsky

Shameless advertising[edit]
Wooohooo! I just made my first major contribution to this site—The Joys of Fascism! (I'm so shameless, I know ^_^) -- Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 03:22, 5 August 2007 (CDT)
Hey what brilliant ideas are there for....uhm...drawing attention to articles here on CP? Their spam filter is blocking attempts to post a URL there, even linked through various short url sites like tinyurl.com etc. Doggedpersistance 16:10, 6 August 2007 (CDT)
- Whatever you do, they'll crack down on it quickly, links to RW in any form are, uh, well, considered a form of obscenity at CP. Hence, "Lemon Party... Tub Girl... RationalWiki!". Anyway, ages ago they string blocked rationalwiki itself, and shortly after, sites like tinyurl. Since a few RWers were using it as you would like to. I don't know how long a redirected link would last (CP to neutral site, neutral to RW), but not long, I suspect. So what do you do? You can pmail individuals with links, of course. You can burn through sockpuppets with short-lived "versions" of your link (ie, trashionalwiki/xyz, or with spaces intruding in the url) which will require people to cut and paste. Perhaps if insertes carefully in inconspicuous places they might last a while. But, basically, the existence of RW is one of the many "truths" about the world that CP shields its feeble-minded adherents from encountering. humanbe in 17:33, 6 August 2007 (CDT)
- By the way, I forgot to mention this way: Google CP & blogs. Go to ones that seemed related to your article and add a comment (not just spamming your link) with your link. Try to keep this process cogent, ie, avoid spamming the blogs. But, there's lots of threads out there, and none of them will reject the RW url. HTH a bit more. humanbe in 14:01, 7 August 2007 (CDT)

Red Links[edit]
There are a number of red links of the form:"Talk:Main Page/Archive n" (where n=1 - 9). Can anything be done? Keep me in the loop 04:41, 6 August 2007 (CDT)
- Hmmm. Well, first, the format should be "Talk:Main Page/Archiven", with n=1, 2, or 3. I see the ones to 6 and 7, the only place I "found" 6 was in a weird meta section in the header of archive1. Couldn't find "7" where the "what links here" said it should be. I think they may just be weird flukes of some sort. Feel free to ask Linus, he may know more. They don't look like "real" links to me. humanbe in 11:48, 6 August 2007 (CDT)
