Conspiracy theory talk page[edit]
Hi, you left something on the conspiracy theory talk page from about two years ago, so I assumed you weren't watching that page anymore; I decided to put my reply on here:
- The paragraph in question is talking about how conspiracy theories explain away their lack of evidence with "a tidy explanation" (one that fits into their conspiracy). Like, "I can't prove I built an over-unity machine because the Government stole the evidence." I think it made sense, but it gave way too many examples to be coherent. Edit comment[edit]
Re this edit comment. I hesitate to suggest that gerard has done very little in the way of ruining this website - much worse has been done I think. Errant behaviour has been the way for some time and I think you yourself have been guilty of descions much similar in the past. You consideration on this matter are appreciated and you can meet me in Epping wearing the brown derby and white rose any time you wish... AceX-102 09:02, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

People are actually supporting that joke "senior administrators" user group that I came up with last fall. You remember that one, right? Where I said we should make a group without any rights (like our "vandals" user group) and call it "senior administrators" and make TK the only one. Audio woo[edit]
Please cast an acerbic eye over Audio woo#Professional_sound - David Gerard (talk) 14:04, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hmmmm, not bad, but there are a few things I'd like to address - for instance, most recording and mixing has been 24 bit for quite some time now (ie, 2nd generation ADAT was 24 bit). Also, the preference for tube mic preamps. And I think part of the "tube sound" for guitar (etc.) amps is based more on odd-order harmonics - although of course when pushing things in squareish wave territory (and speaker breakup) there are going to be even-order ones as well.
- Some high end audio does use balanced low level cabling, but it's rarified territory due to creating a new "standard" that has to be used on every component. Preamp to power amp would be the most common place to do this.
- Also, studio monitors are not necessarily very good sounding speakers (many are, of course). There was some Yamaha thing that was positively awful that many people mixed on, partly, I think, because if you could get your mix to sound good on them, it would sound good on anything. But anyway...
- The main gist is, of course, that professional sound engineers ignore virtually every bit of audio woo promoted by charlatans and worshiped by sufferers of nervosa audiophilia, since it is wasteful to spend the customers' money on hardware that does nothing.
- PS, one thing I'm proud of is that my (16 track, 16 bit ADAT) little home studio suffers from no hum or other artifacts of engineering fail. ħuman 20:52, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- For 16-bit I was thinking of home recording, not studio, silly of me. Tube preamps for effect, yes. We're both wrong, asymmetric clipping leads to even and odd harmonics. Yes, any studio keeps shit speakers around to test mixes on what they'll play on. Balanced cables used to be a lot more common, then. You can tell I've hardly kept up with this stuff since the nineties. The main gist is half of what my point was, just how artificial the sound going in is even in classical was the other half - David Gerard (talk) 21:27, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- It's not just the shit speakers ("truth boxes"), the Yamaha NS10 (?) was a classic awful-sounding monitor. Part of what comes into play is consistency - if every studio has the same monitors, they don't have to be "very" good. What it allows is for engineers to get used to how they sound and how to work with them, and have that be "portable" from studio to studio. Which is not to say that a studio won't also usually have some really high quality equipment for playback - especially to the artist - as well. And tube mic preamps aren't used to make distortion, they are used because they sound incredibly good. Anyway, I am going to try to rephrase a few things at some point tonight. ħuman 00:41, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- Done. ħuman 03:48, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- *cough* the bit that sounds "incredibly good" is the particular variety of distortion they apply - David Gerard (talk) 09:18, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- We can disgree, but a really good class A mic preamp does not distort the signal. ħuman 09:59, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- Ooh. True dat. And a valve running class A is rather less likely to melt than a transistor doing so - David Gerard (talk) 10:12, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- ... particularly in a preamp rather than a power amp. Never mind me - David Gerard (talk) 10:28, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

RationalWiki:RationalWiki Foundation/2010 Q4 budget. Thoughts? tmtoulouse 00:53, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- Everything looks good to me. I would suggest a slightly different naming convention, though, like /2010 Q4 budget. Then just as "agendas" are mirrored by "minutes", "budgets" can be mirrored by "financial reports". Nice work, and I hope people like the clarity. ħuman 00:58, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Deleting great stuff about Uruguay? This is stuff that Uruguayans and Uruguayan wannabes (such as myself) need to know to be informed citizens of the world. BTW, the picture (below) this looks somewhat like a girl I dated in thirty-odd years ago, except she wasn't in a boat (it was a townhouse) and she wasn't wearing white (it was yellowish) and she was mostly fictional (yes in a book, but not of poems!) and she was (I believe) mostly human such as yourself. What I remember was that she fell out of the boat -- even though there was no boat -- and there was a pinball machine somewhere too which wouldn't shut off.--Thomas Wright Sulcer (talk) 00:17, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

To all: First off, please forgive the delay.
PsyGremlin, if by "moaning" you mean "asking for an explanation about the reverts," then I suppose I'm moaning.
First, SusanG reverted my edits on
Isaac Asimov and then
Christopher Hitchens. In the later, there was no explanation. She just did it.
So in trying to avoid an edit war, I went to her talk page. In our chat about Hitchens, I got a satisfactory response. The issue about Isaac Asimov is still unresolved. I have yet to see the Will Smith movie as I figure that Hollywood has ruined it, but I saw the Simpsons episode perhaps a few times.
True, the Wikipedia article on Asimov doesn’t refer to it, but there is an article on the Simpson’s episode, I, (Annoyed Grunt)-Bot—the link to which I put in the article, but was reverted in the wash.
As for the video link, I too would have preferred Youtube, but as I indicated, these Californians likely fear Californian lawyers hired by Fox more than the Russians do, hence the Russian link.
While Wikipedia likely wouldn’t approve of such links due to copyright issue, I figured that RationalWiki would be less sensitive to such as though the File:I-robot.jpg, “does not have 'have' an image copyright notice,” even though it was uploaded over 2 years ago.
Next, my Saloon Bar posts (here). Now maybe it’s just me, but when I think, “Saloon Bar” I tend to think politics, music, and fun: hence the video links. Now Human had a reasonable explanation: go put it on my userpage (upon registering an account). Very well. But it seems a fair amount of the posts in the SB could similarly go on Userpages, or perhaps talk pages.
As for Human’s reverting my edit in Ghost in the machine, again, it might be me, but the first time I heard that expression was the Police album, and only well over a decade later, I heard of it in reference to Descartes. Note that not only is the WP article on the album is bigger than the other article here, it’s bigger than the WP one. Further, the RW and WP ones seem to be quite different.
I also noticed that the RW article on Zoroastrianism is not only a little misleading but also smaller than the one in the Conservapedia article and Uncyclopedia one, and much smaller than the ones in aSK and Citizendium.
Maybe I’d improve the article later. ;-) 206.130.174.42 (talk) 20:11, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
- Most of this belongs on the various articles' talk pages. As far as the GitM edit, we had just removed 8 or ten pop culture references, if you were paying attention. In general, really, if you're the same person, you've been around for several months, if you created a username people would get used to you and you'd probably find more leeway. Editing as an IP makes you a "stranger" every time (since IPs aren't static, they could be anybody), and causes your edits to be viewed with more suspicion. ħuman 20:30, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
- (Same guy, different IP.) Again noted. As for the SB, it's hard to keep track when there are few summaries. I'll be winding down the IP edits soon, and create an account. ;-) 205.189.194.208 (talk) 21:28, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

You keep reverting my edits no matter how hard I try to keep to the spirit of RW. I mean, I wouldn't much care except that I put my time into what I do and it's just a little frustrating. If your going to keep at it, could you at least specify why from now on? Like "This is pure drivel" or "This lacks any citation so is totally nonsense coming from a newb" or "Conservative propaganda" or "Giving RW a bad name with this stupidity"?
Seriously though, I'll just stop participating long before I resort to edit wars or arguing over every little detail of how much bias and sillyness should be in a wiki that is, by nature, biased and silly. Aphoxema (talk) 13:21, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

- Yes. The rollback button is meant for obvious vandalism, when there is no need to supply an edit summary. You are using it to remove non-vandalism edits without giving an explanation, thus resulting in the above scenario. You've also reverted someone's edits because it was too hard to copyedit, which is frankly ridiculous. Ever heard of don't bite the newbies? What do you think a new editor will do when they see that their edits have been thrown out without an explanation, or because you couldn't be bothered to copyedit it? Some might persevere, but most would probably just say fuck it, it's not worth it. No one is being paid to write our articles, so you cannot expect every edit to be perfect. We should be thanking them for coming here and expanding our articles in the first place (even if their edits are unsuitable, e.g. Fun:Dunkinism), rather than throwing their edits back at them with a "not good enough, try again loser". From Human's last 250 edits, here are the instances in which he reverted an obviously non-vandalism edit with no explanation on the talk page or the "offending" editor's talk page. This is by no means saying that the edits were necessarily good edits, of course, and they vary in terms of quality:
- Ayn Rand
- Fahrenheit 9/11
- Jesus Christ
- Fellatio
- Nikola Tesla
- Poland
- Rapture
- Homophobia
- Obesity. Even though Aphoxema went to the talk page, and Genghis undid Human's revert, he still remained silent.
I'm still not sure whether this constitutes administrative abuse or not. Some of the above list are edits by IPs, who do not enjoy the benefits of having a "name," and fall into a bit of a gray area. Blue (is useful) 20:51, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
- I am not opposed to reverting edits of new users, but I think the kid gloves should be used for new editors, we are trying to attract users not repel them. Undo if its a bad edit but don't use insulting or demeaning edit comments, and a note to the user about why and how to do better or on the talk page. tmtoulouse 20:59, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Reverts...[edit]
This isn't a big issue, and I'm not going to pontificate here, but is it really necessary to use the revert function so liberally? It just doesn't seem like this, for example, was so pressing or difficult to get rid of that you couldn't use undo; I'm not accusing you of abuse (though someone has already done that). Article Name Help[edit]
Wondering if I could just bounce this off you... I'd like to begin an article on how austerity measures & spending cuts after the Global Recession will affect spending cuts. I've done some research and got some good sources together. I was thinking something like, "Scientific Spending Cuts" or "Scientific Spending in times of global austerity." Any ideas how you'd name it? Dalek (talk) 18:31, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
- The latter sounds interesting. Don't use any unnecessary capitals in the title, though. Do you have data from previous recessions? Esp. the 91-92ish one? And the Japanese crash way back when (80s?)? ħuman 18:51, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
- I'll certainly look into it, and try to comment on how the current austerity measures will compare to past ones. I won't put the article up until i've got a lot of research together and it looks good. Dalek (talk) 19:26, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
- One good way to do that is to create a sandbox - a subpage of your user page - that way you can wikify it as you work, and even invite assistance if you want. Ninjas discussion continued[edit]
- MediaWiki:Grouppage-ninja: This is the link that appears e.g. on Special:Userrights/Onion, if you change this you have to move the page, which is currently Project:Ninjas
- MediaWiki:Group-ninja, MediaWiki:Group-ninja-member: Edit these to rename the group, one is the name of the group (e.g. "Cabal") the other is the name of a member of the group (e.g. "Cabalist", "Cabal member" etc.)
- You can't change the internal name (which is "ninja"), but that doesn't really matter since it's not really visible. If it really bothers you I can change it to something else. -- Nx / talk 08:23, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

That template is used a lot in wigos and twigo:cp comments, so experimenting with stuff like redirecting to cancer is not a terribly good idea. Question[edit]
I've recently been adding (non snarky) wikimedia commons images to articles. I've mostly been doing this for people and animals, and limiting it to 1 per page. As you've been around here much longer than I have, and have helped me with policy things in the past, should I extend this to locations and objects? Just people? Nothing? - If the images improve the article - especially if they hone a point - by all means add them. But don't just add gratuitous junk just because it shares the same filename. ħuman 05:53, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

- To be perfectly honest, one of the few things that always has gnawed at me about RW is its lack of any guidelines for such a key thing as granting/removing user rights, even after the HCM and arguing and hurt feelings and LANCB. Could be that nobody cares enough to talk about them - but then, why does the head come right off the chicken when someone appears to abuse their rights, especially 'crats? Ponder this, I will. Blue (pester) 04:56, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Abiogeneis[edit]
Regarding your comment on my talk page about the "lightning striking a mud puddle theory", NewScientist has already covered the issue of abiogeneis and how early cells managed to use an acid-alkaline gradient to produce energy. The citation I added to the abiogenesis article links to it, as well as a very helpful 10 minute YouTube clip expounding abiogenesis in detail. Please remember that electricity from lightning is limited to that strike, lightning strikes are more or less random. It is here that undersea vents have an advantage, for being much more stable and a rich source of organic compounds. Here is a link to that clip, if you'd like to see it [2].Several ingredients (talk) 05:37, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Reversions on LSD and Psilocybin[edit]
There is, I am sure, some reason why these two edits, both of which provided accurate information about the cultural context of these drugs, were reverted. I am, however, utterly mystified as to what that reason is.
In the case of LSD, I thought I was nicely expanding the account of what LSD users value in the drug - without giving it any sort of metaphysical validity, the fact of the matter is that numerous artistic sorts, Pink Floyd and Steve Jobs among them, have cited LSD experiences as an influence. This seems pretty straightforward and worth noting. (Also, that edit removed a stray ref tag that was screwing up a sentence, so at the very least, go take that back out)
As for psilocybin, the article, although hilarious in its current form, really could use some debunking of the pop culture understanding of psychedelics. You know. A spot of information in amongst the snark - not a bad thing.
But if there's some flaw in the edits that I am unaware of, by all means, let me know so I can try to improve them instead of just ripping them out without explanation. 71.88.35.24 (talk) 05:21, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- They were crap. ħuman 05:22, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- Your extensive and cogent explanation is much appreciated. Would you like to elaborate on that one, or shall we just skip straight to the revert warring? 71.88.35.24 (talk) 05:25, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- You want me to dig back and paste every bit of incorrect I read and justify it to you? How about you go to the talk pages and paste your edits in there? ħuman 05:27, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- Because this is a wiki, made for swift and collaborative editing, not for obsessive pedantry on talk pages? I mean, in the end, yes - I want you to explain what's wrong with the edits. You can feel free to do so on the talk pages, here, or wherever, but my posting on the talk page is not actually going to change the fact that you haven't provided anything resembling an explanation for the reversions. So why don't you provide some explanation that, you know, has content to it, and I'll wake up tomorrow and make a bunch of changes to deal with your objections while still adding the actual information and content the edits contain. Or, you know, wake up tomorrow, see you continuing to dodge the fairly straightforward request, and just revert you. Either works, let me know which I'm doing. Cheers. 71.88.35.24 (talk) 05:30, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- No, because you edited in multiple places, making it hard to cut and paste your poor quality edits to the talk page. I said "your edits were crap". That is my opinion. Feel free to defend them or improve them via the talk page. You can't be bothered to create a user name, but I am expected to make a half dozen copy/pastes to critique your poor edits? Keep in mind, I did not simply rollback everything you did, there was another sizable edit I copyedited. You gonna write on-mission articles for all those authors and the "ism" you mentioned? ħuman 05:35, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, terribly sorry for actually editing across the whole article and fixing it up. Will probably happen repeatedly again. As for a username, I was unaware that they were such a premium. Having suffered the extreme agonies of actually developing a social identity on Wikipedia, which, it turns out, can lead to all sorts of unpleasant things like administrator status and actual work to do, I've largely opted to avoid it in favor of the cheery efficiency of IP addresses. I was unaware that this choice rendered my contributions invalid - I would have thought that the fact that I have taken the time to expand a half-dozen articles this evening and create another would represent a sufficient commitment of effort to be taken seriously. How was I to know that actually, the real trick was to pass a Captcha. As for the authors and isms Depends on whether A) I can think of anything both relevant to RW's general mission and on-topic for those subjects, B) Whether I feel like it, and C) Whether I move on from the psychedelic articles in a timely manner or get bogged into a dispute that manages to avoid actually talking about the article in favor of making snarky comments. Which, mind you, I am all for. I love snarky comments. And verbiage. Sweet, sweet verbiage. But yeah. Those are basically the determining factors. Mostly B, though, if I'm being honest. - What you describe sounds suspiciously like work, and I have a strange feeling that if I do so, you will continue to not actually offer an explanation of the problem. I mean, I can copy-paste the text to the talk page, and if that will get you to, you know, answer the fucking question, hey, I suppose I can jump through arbitrary hoops. But honestly, you can copy-paste the text to the talk page and then explain the problems. If, you know, you have any intention of doing so. If not, I'm going to go ahead and file you as "just being a dick instead of actually discussing content" and go back to, you know, adding content instead of this (admittedly amusing) pissing match. Quick question, though, from a noob - do we have 3RR here? It's helpful to know. 71.88.35.24 (talk) 05:49, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Day care sex abuse[edit]
Hey, in the article on child abuse, you made a reference to the Fernald Day Care scandal, and promised to find a reference for it. I decided to go looking for it myself and couldn't find anything. Is it possible that you got the name of the day care wrong? I ask because google searches for "Fernald Day Care" return three results, of which we're one, and wikipedia's article specifically on day care sex abuse panic doesn't mention anything about a Fernald. ThunderkatzHo! 18:00, 5 January 2011 (UTC) PS You made that edit over 2 years ago so I understand if you have no recollection of it.
- That is quite possible. I read about it as it unfolded in the Boston Globe (boston.com). Let me see what I can find. ħuman 04:57, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- Apparently my memory is no better than that of the alleged molested children. wp:Fells_Acres_Day_Care_Center_preschool_trial is the story in question, family name Amirault. Can you fix it, or should, I suppose, I? Ogling "day care child sex abuse boston globe amirault" works pretty well. ħuman 05:04, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- You're more familiar, I'll let you fix it (read: I'm lazy). On a completely unrelated note, what happened to the "0" edit button for editing the top section of pages? ThunderkatzHo! 05:12, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- OK, will do. A link would have been nice ;) The "0" link got buried under the star, I think, now I am seeing it as one font bigger than all other edit buttons, but like I see it on WP - an edit button for section zero. Ask Nx if you need more in-depth help. ħuman 06:09, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Drugs[edit]
I was actually glad to see you cut in. I try to concede to majority opinion on wiki edit wars, even when I strongly disagree with it, but when its only two people there's no "majority" to concede to (although I would still like some explanation for why the drinking increase during prohibition was "useless," and Weaseloid is refusing to address anything I say). So, a third person was good. BTW, question: there was a certain claim made in Penn & Teller's Bullshit!, and I was wondering whether it would be relevant if I could find the source: that heroin is actually hundreds of times cheaper than before the war on drugs, indicating that government efforts to control drugs are not effective?--Mustex (talk) 15:00, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I think the trick is to figure out which article any given bit of information fits well in. The main drugs article is a bit tongue in cheek, so endless facts don't suit it as well. But we have many, many articles ranging from War on Drugs to specific articles on drugs, we might even have Heroin chic... One thing the interdiction of South American marijuana did, contrary to all "economics" rules about protectionism, was generate incredibly high-quality local product, since it forced US potheads to combine agricultural technology (hydroponics) with genetics (artificial selection)... and they loved their job... I'm not sure about H being "hundreds" of times cheaper (and P & T make some awful mistakes, IMHO), it was always a fairly cheap drug. The key to the price and availability of H is the production (supply) vs. demand... and the biggest recent issues have been the Taliban killing off production and then production skyrocketing due to our little "intervention" to
secure pipeline routesfree the Afghan people. ħuman 02:55, 20 April 2011 (UTC)- Well, to be fair, the way they described it the price drop was actually a combination of factors. There was the rise in purity (5% to 95%), the actual drop in price ($30 to $4), and inflation.--Mustex (talk) 21:13, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hmmm, I remember when street samples started turning up in Boston and NY with purities like that. There's a reason one of H's nicknames is "junk" - the old low-purity crap. !!!!

Texbook on gravitation[edit]
Dear Human, Have you already decided about writing this "Einsteinian gravitation (txtbook for high schools)" with me? It may be also on all the obove things (and should) ... JimJast (talk) 12:14, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
- Is there an advance involved? Writing is hard work, and requires food and other fuel. ħuman 11:19, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- I know, but unless we get some advance from some publisher (I tried one in Poland, "Znak", with zero result so far) we have to do it totally on our own. Counting on recovering our expenses when the book starts selling. Is the form 50/50 for profit splitting OK, or you have other ideas? You may realize that with my knowledge of language (also in Polish, I remind you) all verbal work must be yours which might be even tougher then. I can deliver only the knowledge of gravitation (and some common sense if one of us gets carried away for some reason). JimJast (talk) 07:20, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
- 50/50 is fine with me, it's the modern business model. Meaning first you must write book, then I will Anglicize it. Still I would prefer a publisher to be on line to kick in some cash up front. ħuman 08:32, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

- Hu, I'd prefer too have a publisher to kick in some cash up front. We agree here but it is not so simple, I'm afraid:
- I don't know about your literary achivements but I'm completely nobody, also scientifically (as you may read in my user:JimJast description) with whom any publisher would want to deal especially to give him money to write a book on gravitation. We have to rely primerly on ourselves (if you still think it is worthwhile).
- There are no textbooks on Einsteinian gravitation or any real gravitation yet, and so it can't be taught in high schools. On one hand it is good, since there is no competition yet, but also bad since there are no standards againt which we may be evaluated as "superior scholars". I'm kidding but only a little. Nobody knows such standards and so neither you do. You have to ask me a lot of quesions to establish that I'm not another crank from whom you need to steer away but that what I say has to it some merit.
- Only after establishing some mutual trust we may cooperate without being afraid that we are getting ourself in some mess via lack of information on how the gravitation really works.
- I don't believe I'm expressing myself clearly enough to be understood that there is yet no clear description of how the universe works that astrophysicists, as well as high school students, might use. Gravitation was so much abused by creationists that it needs close to a generation to recover. That's why this textbook is needed. To get rid of the remnants of "creationist physics" (the Big Bang) and restore back the principle of conservation of energy and true physics in which energy can't be created (or the universe expanding, which can't be done without creation of energy from nothing).
- So please just start asking me questions and we see whether our characters are such that we could cooperate writing this textbook. Then we work on the details. And could you recommend somebody else if you resign this work? JimJast (talk) 16:37, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Nutrition[edit]
Hey, I remember that you're a doctor (forgive me if I'm wrong on that point), and was wondering if you could either give me some advice, or suggest a place I could get good advice on this subject. Basically, I really want to lose some weight, and a friend of mine told me that fiber and protein kills appetite, and is trying to convince me to start drinking energy shakes. But, I've heard REALLY bad things about energy shakes (kidney stones, blood clots...). Honestly, part of me is tempted to just drink metamucil for the fiber and forget about the protein. Would that actually work?--Mustex (talk) 15:03, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- Well, first off, I am most definitely not a doctor. I am not even a master. But losing weight... well, you know, they say there are two sure ways to do so: diet and exercise. So if there are foods you like that are low in calories and high in bulk (i.e. veggies), eat more of them. Avoid fatty foods if you can. That cuts the intake a bit, and is likely also a healthy diet. "Exercise" means moving parts of your body around, ideally against resistance (like gravity) on a regular basis. It burns calories, tones your muscles, and some people claim it even gets you high. Mountain climbers, mostly. ħuman 06:25, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
- Also, I forgot - try to avoid foods that make you fart uncontrollably, since those will lose you friends. Also foods that make you burp stomach acid up into your esophagus should be minimized - not avoided, but minimized. ħuman 08:34, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, I must have you mixed up with another user. Sorry to bug you!--76.18.115.64 (talk) 20:54, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Hu, I just learned about Susan (what did I learn? that she's gone) and since I'm trying to get into your community's internal life I'm curious. Could you let me in, or you're not in mood at such grave moment? JimJast (talk) 05:59, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- SusanG was a long time editor here. She operated under the usernames user:SusanG and user:Toast. She was known for being extremely opinionated, especially with regards to religion, and she didn't suffer fools lightly. She had a quick turn of phrase and was not afraid of offending people she disagreed with. I wouldn't say that she was universally liked, although she was relatively popular and those of us who knew her in the early days miss her. Check out this for more info. --DamoHi 06:27, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
Hi Human[edit]
There seems to be some blah on my talk page about me being a sysop, which I refuse to dignify with a response (I'll only play into their hands so they can go 'LOOK! HE IS TROLLING AGAIN! WHERE IS MY MOMMY???') So instead of participating in the HCM that they themselves have created, would you please consider restoring my sysop rights along with taking me out of the vandal bin (Tom Moore seems to have went out of his way to be a pompous prick lately) MarcusCicero (talk) 10:28, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Funny how nobody lets me do it though. Let me know when it's in delta, then, since the beta is obviously a failure at merging with MW. ħuman 07:31, 19 May 2011 (UTC)- Maybe that's because they disagree with you calling everything a personal attack and abusing the LJ decision to silence criticism. -- Nx / talk 07:40, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
- Will you please now fuck off? I asked you to stop trolling my user page with endless insults and attacks, and strangely enough you don't stop, you leave me a new orange box every time I save a mainspace edit. Nx I say this again: I do not like you, I consider you to be impossible to work with, and any edit you make to my talk page, as far as I can tell, is trash. And I will be archiving this after saving it. ħuman 07:42, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

- "A user's talk page, like any other talk page on the site, is public and does not belong to the user. However, users are permitted to delete posts containing personal attacks or trolling from their own talk pages, being responsible for any abuse of this permission." And it's in beta -- Nx / talk 06:29, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
- On my talk page I am allowed to delete it. So are you, if you want. So is anyone. I got really tired of you just attacking me anywhere I post anything for the last six months. LQT sucks, it does not interface with MW properly yet. Call me back when it's in beta. ħuman 06:21, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
- Pointing out that you are not a very nice person for saying things like "you are a lesser form of life than [a troll]. We don't even have a word for it" is not a personal attack. Neither is pointing out that you are a hypocrite for supporting MC, who throws around personal attacks all the time, and making personal attacks all the time as well, and yet crying like a little baby when someone criticizes you. Calling other people's comments garbage and calling them trolls is a personal attack. PS, talk pages suck, you should use LQT. -- Nx / talk 06:16, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Removal of red links[edit]
Dear Human,
I hope recent events worked out the way you wanted. I voted for you.
You are no doubt aware of my campaign to rid RationalWiki of red links. This communication concerns the four red links to "New Gwenson," three of which are on talk pages and one on an archived user talk page. I noticed that the redirect to Fun:New Gwenson was previously deleted.
I would like to ask your blessing to restore the redirect to the fun page, as I believe that due to their nature it is the only way to address these red links. Otherwise could you please offer me an alternate strategy.
Thank you for your time.
zieber (talk) 19:24, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
- Either restore the redirect - or change the links to point directly to F:NG, which would actually be better. I think we are the only site on all the tubez that actually kept the NG spam. That's because we are awesome. ħuman 01:57, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

- Yah got an executive summary for that one? I thought it was gonna be David Bowie, but it was on 33 and I couldn't make it run at 45... ħuman 02:40, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- 33? 45? Pink(Is a perfectly acceptable colour) 02:47, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- Pfft, kids. I had a Nash the Slash album that was designed for play at 33, 45 AND 78! --Kels (talk) 02:51, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- Too damn slow to get to any point, speed it up by 50% might be interesting. And way to much reverb on the canned miming. So my question: what does it say? (post EC) I have a 7" single, one side plays at 33 and the other at 45. All techno can be played at any speed - 16 for heroin, 33 for pot, 45 for X, 78 for meth. ħuman 02:53, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- I just love the chord changes. I don't really care about the speed or the reverb; I think it works that way. And I have no idea what it says. Sorry! Pink(Is a perfectly acceptable colour) 02:59, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- Here's a cool one, Shadowy Men On a Shadowy Planet (you'd know them from the Kids In the Hall theme, aka "Having An Average Weekend"), used to put out their stuff on 45's, but play them at 33, so the could cram three songs on a side. --Kels (talk) 02:57, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- Also, I had a player that would do all four speeds, pretty unusual by that point. --Kels (talk) 02:58, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- I wouldn't know KitH from a hole in the ground, but surely you mean they pressed their records on 7" vinyl intended to be played at 45? They aren't 45s so much as 7". So small EPs, really? I had a CD player that died by playing the CD backwards. ħuman 03:01, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- Everybody and their dog in those days called 7" records "45's" or "singles", at least 'round where I was. So the slang sorta stuck with me. Heck, I still call a release an "album". But yeah, it was damn clever. Almost as much clever as this little darling, which had three separate grooves cut into Side 4, with each of the artists getting their own. You'd probably like Shadowy Men, they used to do these great guitar-driven surf style instrumentals, like this one. --Kels (talk) 03:08, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- I think MP, and perhaps FT, both did the multiple groove thing. Lemme check that vid, sounds like fun! ħuman 03:10, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- Python did, I think it was "Matching Tie and Handkerchief". But I've never seen three grooves outside this one, it's normally only two. But throw Laurie Anderson and William S. Burroughs into the mix and I'm sold. --Kels (talk) 03:16, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- Indeed. Liked the surf tune. ħuman 03:21, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your nomination[edit]
I believe I stand a good chance of election. I hope to be the consensus voice of traditional rationalwikian values. In order not to splinter the vote I ask that you, and some others of like mind, step aside and endorse me. If the new moderator system is to be elected I would hope to be one of those elected to office, and as long as I hold elected position I will be able to influence blocking policy so that site critics and dissidents will still be allowed a clear and coherent voice. What do you think of this proposal? We could galvanise all of the traditional voices, all of those sickened and disgusted by this site's slide into wikipedian mediocrity, and we could really fire a volley against the system! Please explain how I am wrong. Why is it okay for you to spam your user page into various mainspace categories, but not ok for a draft article in userspace to be in a mainspace category? Actually it wasn't even in userspace, and Brxbrx only added the template and thus the category after moving it to mainspace, but let's ignore that. -- Nx / talk 08:23, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Why am I wasting your time? Because I'm a fucking pedantic bitch, and you're attempting to hold human accountable to something he said with something that does not fit with what he said. It's like he said "I don't like onions" and you point out that he commented that he likes shallots, to which I point out "shallots aren't onions" to which you respond "they're both of the genus 'allium', so what's the difference?" The difference is: shallots aren't onions. So trying to hold him to some sort of irony or hypocrisy fails. --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 14:53, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- So why don't you explain to me why the difference between userpages and user subpages matters in this case? -- Nx / talk 16:42, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

- N(idiot)x, let me explain. User wrote article in their sandbox. Was linked from their user page to a subpage. A sandbox probably shouldn't be catted yet since it is, well, a sandbox. I missed that it was redirected to mainspace. The user has since added a note to indicate such. All is better now, except for your attitude problem. ħuman 05:21, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- So, are you saying it is okay to put your userpage into various mainspace categories? -- Nx / talk 05:31, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

- Nx, you fail at comprehension. Have you looked at my user page lately? ħuman 06:09, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- It would be nice if you could answer my questions directly. Yes, I have, but it is not clear if you removed it from those categories intentionally or just as a side effect of blanking your page and replacing it with a short message. -- Nx / talk 06:13, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- How about "it's none of your damn business you busybody who has to interfere in everything I do here"? What questions? Do whatever busybodies like you do when they go away. And then fuck off and die. ħuman 06:25, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- My question was, is it okay to put your userpage into a mainspace category? It is my business because that affects categories as well, not just your userpage. -- Nx / talk 06:29, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- That question doesn't even make sense. Just like this intrusion/attack on me just because I made an edit. Here's a good idea, Nx. Fuck off. Go away. Leave me alone. Leave my talk page alone. You are adding nothing to this wiki with your edits. Bye bye. I already asked you to leave my talk page the fuck alone, yet you and your socks insist on raising empty issues here. Nx, you are not welcome on my talk page, since you bring no value of any kind. Now kindly do gently fondle yourself. You are not welcome here. Your comments are useless at best and antagonistic and stalking at worst. GO AWAY. ħuman 06:36, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Is your goal..[edit]
...to piss everyone off? Where'd you learn how to write English? Starting a sentence with "98%..." looks bad. It looks bad when my students do it and it looks bad when someone with too big of an ego here does it to. So knock it the fuck off. king of the rats do you wanna kick it in the backseat? 11:18, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- You didn't care to debate your changes last time and now you appear to rather be a complete prick and revert my changes again. One other small thing, "Unusally for an educator...." sounds stupid as hell. Make like andy and read some real texts. king of the rats do you wanna kick it in the backseat? 11:22, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Some reading standards indicate that all numbers ten or less should be written out, while all numbers larger than ten be written as numbers. Writing out "Ninety-eight percent" seems odd to me... but then the whole sentence seems backwards for me... here, rather than explain, I'll just go in and make the change, and you can see if it makes it any better. --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 11:43, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Bleh... reading that paragraph is like eating a glue sandwich... bland, and difficult to digest... I think it needs more than just the band-aid that I put on it... --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 11:52, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Exception to the "writing out numbers rule" -- if a sentence begins with a number, write it out: "Ninety-eight percent of Eira's edits are brilliant." "Ninety-sixty-seven was a good year for prunes." P-Foster (talk) 13:00, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- I think the year 9067 is still a bit of a ways off and no one can particularly make any meaningful remark about the quality of the prunes produced that year... also, the other "fact" is clearly false, and libelous. --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 13:09, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- That's actually an interesting question - will the progress in prune technology outweigh possible damages to the ecosystem in seven thousand years? *taps chin in thought* --Sid (talk) 13:16, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Glad you guys figured this all out. Rationalize, why the filthy language to ask a simple question, and insults to follow? It makes your points weaker. I learned that if a number takes more than two words, use numerals. ħuman 04:01, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

- Obviously it was offensive. I deal with bullies all the time and you're no exception. Since I have the luxury of anonymity as well as not at risk of losing my job here, I will just say that 1. They were improvements and I'm sorry you don't know better and 2. you're a pain in the ass and as helpful here as TK was at CP. Now promote me like you did Blue over a disagreement.... my article[edit]
Did you access it from my userpage? Cuz I've a redirect in my userspace for that article. Do you not believe it to be up to par? Could you please offer feedback and ways I could include it? Thank you.--User:Brxbrx/sig 04:28, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- I edited it because it is in userspace. Put it in mainspace and others can improve it and the template can be uncommented. I have no idea what "redirect" you are talking about. I clicked on a link on your "userpage", such as it is. ħuman 04:34, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- If it got moved you might want to update your userpage. ħuman 04:36, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Or, you could like... try looking to see if you've been redirected... --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 04:38, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

- it appears this was just a silly misunderstanding. I left the redirect in my user page to attribute me as the original author (mostly in case I need to rebuff someone that claims I'm worthless. Vanity, I know. I did it back on ED, too). I will specify that the article is now in mainspace.--User:Brxbrx/sig 04:42, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

- You're a complete asshole, you know that? When I saw it was in main, guess what I did? Copyedited it. It's not that bad of an article, though it could use some more flesh. ħuman 08:10, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

- It's a structure, at least. I'm sure much of it is salvageable. But RW is not ED. The sense of humor is different. Please take some time to learn your way around before trying to run the place. PS, your user page is an embarrassment. ħuman 04:48, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Also, please try to use complete sentences when writing articles, if you can. It makes the proofreading easier. ħuman 05:08, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
