The mysteries of the Wanted Pages get even weirder[edit]

First, sorry about the abrupt cut off but until I can afford a real phone...anyway, I have explored the mysteries the fun:37 wanted pages thing way more deeply than most people would dare! And it is a strange thing, it seems that certain pages are "stuck" in wanted pages no matter what. It still reports 3 links even though I removed them all, and new links are not added to the "Wanted pages" query. So as I said, a strange thing points to an even deeper problem. I will keep exploring I guess unless someone else has a bright idea. tmtoulouse beleaguer 19:30, 22 August 2007 (CDT)

FYI[edit]

You at one point wanted a way to see what pages you created. With dynamic pages installed its fairly easy now to get a "real time" update. You can see an example at User:Tmtoulouse/myfault. tmtoulouse beleaguer 00:36, 23 August 2007 (CDT)

I put mine at User:Human/myfault. Kewl! humanbe in 19:02, 24 August 2007 (CDT)

Here is my thought, with the dynamic page link we can set up a page to display anything "real time." If we ever get around to getting everything categorized into "best of rationalwiki" I can re do the contents page so that it displays our "best of" automatically, so that when a new article gets added to the category it automatically gets placed in the table of contents. Automated is good I think, but what do you think? tmtoulouse beleaguer 15:28, 23 August 2007 (CDT)

Have you thought much about my idea for a dynamic TOC? tmtoulouse beleaguer 16:10, 24 August 2007 (CDT)

Yes, a bit, and now that I see how DPL works, I should have a report ready for you by this evening ;) humanbe in 16:17, 24 August 2007 (CDT)

Thanks, but wasn't I just magnifying your joke? I almost removed the "numero uno", and then the fact that it is Spanish hit me and I ran with it. So I got me some chuckles from your edit, too. Glad to provide some of your daily lulz requirement, at least. Thanks! humanbe in 22:34, 27 August 2007 (CDT)

question[edit]

Where is this russian lottery ticket? If you yourself could email it, that would be good. Or I could link you to a good translator web-site. Bohdan 22:35, 27 August 2007 (CDT)

Oh, sorry I didn't keep you up to date on that. I emailed the guy offering your skillz (asked him to email me the scanned images), and I haven't heard back. So maybe he got help elsewhere. The trouble with a trans. site would be that this is an "image", one way or another, not "text" that could be entered. So it would be brutal work for someone not familiar with the works of St. Cyril. If he does send me the images, I'll just post them here for you to take a look at. Thanks for remembering! humanbe in 22:46, 27 August 2007 (CDT)
I'll be waiting to hear. I found that this site: [1] is very helpful. It translates so many languages, including russian, to and from English. Bohdan 22:52, 27 August 2007 (CDT)

Orphaned pages[edit]

Interesting problem with the "Divine Retribution" page. It opens ok. However I put a link to it on the "Gods Love" page and the link comes up red, and suggests that the page does not yet exist. If I try to edit the D R page it comes up blank and says this is a new page??? Hints?--Remarcsd 18:52, 28 August 2007 (CDT)

It was recently moved, and the resulting redirect was deleted. I changed the link on "God's Love" to the new location. It's possible that, when you first opened DR, you got a cached version or accessed it just before the move+delete. --Sid 18:55, 28 August 2007 (CDT)
Great work on the orphans, Remarcsd. I sometimes look at that list and it just makes my head hurt, but you've been managing to shoehorn decent links in all over the place. One thing to keep in mind - sometimes an orphan doesn't really belong here. If you do run into any that are pointless, better to leave a note on their talk page nicely asking "why is this on the site, should we delete it (or move it to ACD?". Again, though, you've been doing some serious housekeeping grunt work! humanbe in 19:20, 28 August 2007 (CDT)

Orphans list is basically finished. Only three left at time of writing, and two I suggest be deleted, not sure what to do with UNTITLED. Apologies for my attempt at humour(tm) wrt Anne Coulter. I have found another home for the article in question.--Remarcsd 00:18, 30 August 2007 (CDT)

UNTITLED needs to remain there untouched, its part of the back bone for several extensions we have on the site. An annoying but necessary evil for the time. tmtoulouse beleaguer 00:20, 30 August 2007 (CDT)

Copy edits?[edit]

I think my methodological naturalism article might make a good entry into best of RW science bringing 3 articles into that, but it needs copy editing, you up for it? tmtoulouse beleaguer 20:22, 29 August 2007 (CDT)

P.S. what are you some other amusement articles I might have missed that might qualify? tmtoulouse beleaguer 20:23, 29 August 2007 (CDT)

I'll take a crack at it. Well, I asked for ACD to be linked as if it were a cat. Recipe: is another good one - the whole namespace, basically. Should we have a "Best of amusement" cat so it can be used on our funny stuff? Can it be done in a way that hacks off the ACD or Recipe prefix when they turn up on the main page? humanbe in 20:27, 29 August 2007 (CDT)
Amusement now links to ACD article namespace, there is a "best of amusement" category and yes the namespace is whacked off when its displayed on the main page. tmtoulouse beleaguer 20:28, 29 August 2007 (CDT)
OK, awesome. Since we have the cat, let's link to it as the "portal", since anything anywhere can be included by having it judged "BOA". Right? Maybe we should have a noticeboard mention of all this best of stuff, and even start a gold rush by those interested in rating our lulzy pieces. Sweeeet, this new TOC was a really good idea! humanbe in 20:31, 29 August 2007 (CDT)

PNAO[edit]

Hey, human, I want to write an intro for this article, and I noticed you had commented on the talk page. How much do you know about the article? It wasn't created by Andy, but apparently originated at this site, and was added to CP later. I know Andy later defended it, saying it was a joke and a parody, but I'm convinced that was just his way of trying to turn an embarrassing article that had remained unnoticed or months into a joke on liberals. His only claim that it was a joke on liberalism seems to be the reference to it being endangered, which hardly makes much sense. Do you have any more information? Thanks. DickTurpis 16:44, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Well, I only "know" a few things, and can't prove most of them since I don't have a way to look at the records of deleted articles at CP. 1. It was up there a long time. 2. I am almost certain it was posted in one edit, and not by Andy. 3. It was a laughingstock in the "real world". 4. Andy claimed it was parody of dem libruls. 5. No one really believed him, since it wasn't very good. Or, put differently, it was way better than any other parody CP has ever attempted. 6. It has been deleted, probably as "non-encyclopedic". If you could get a friendly CP sysop (maybe Hoji or Bohdan?) to help, they can view the article's history and maybe get you some clear data points. That link you provided certainly seems like it could be a progenitor (and should be added to the PNAO article if it's not there). Also, some 'net research ought to make it easy to put dates on events "outside" CP. The wayback machine would be good, too - ie, if that site existed before CP was started, then it was not written by CP as a "psrodt". Oh yeah, just checked that, it dates to at least 12/10/2003. It ought to be easy to google, I'd almost expect to find someone somewhere gloating that they pwned CP with it. Hope this helps. humanbe in 19:35, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Demotions[edit]

I really think that normal users should not randomly be demoted to adminship. If an sysop knows what he/she is doing immense disruption can be effected in even a few minutes. The random demotion might also seem to spite users who go through the normal channels to procure sysop.(RationalWiki:Requests for Sysop) - Icewedge 23:43, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Ha! Who listens to those?--Offeep 23:46, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Sorry, I read it without the "not" so I wandalized it so. As far as your grammar/spelling, I still find it hilarious that you such an 4337 haxor, which requires complete attention to syntax and such, and yet you play fast and loose with the old-fashioned "typed words". C'est la vie, I suppose. PS, are you bothered that, at least for now, M. Offeep has the extreme powerz? humanbe in 00:31, 1 September 2007 (CDT)
I haven't seen the background to this demotion, but I find it a bit surprising as well.--Bob_M (talk) 04:39, 1 September 2007 (CDT)
I can't justify it (hell, I can hardly remember it), so I will undo the demotion if the mob requests, or, of course, if Offeep abuses or doesn't use the janitorial powerz. humanbe in 15:54, 1 September 2007 (CDT)

Granted, to reach them, you have to get me to go wake them up, as, like cats, they sleep about 22 hours a day, and rarely log in of their own volition to see if you have work for them. I'm surprised you haven't cracked their passwords yet, they are intentionally easy to remember. Keep in mind that I am not the only Bohdanpuppetmaster, also. humanbe in 19:18, 3 September 2007 (CDT)

You mean for using naughty words on Bohdan's talk page? He would have if I hadn't... he not like naughty words. humanbe in 15:34, 4 September 2007 (CDT)

Here's the thing[edit]

Half those metaphors (and there are 8 now) were added by RWers. Been trying to keep it on the DL, so they don't get reverted. But I think that cat's out of the bag (to add another). DickTurpis 17:10, 4 September 2007 (CDT)

That's why we permalink (and why didn't you answer on the WIGO talk page? Or did you do so there, too?). I realize the concern of "protecting" silly stuff anti-CPers added over there, but that's the risk the silly stuff takes. Us noticing it makes it look more, not less, legit. Of course, you kind of outed it above, didn't you? So it should be copied and linked at a "CP parody" file, methinks - especially if it lasted/;asts a while! humanbe in 17:17, 4 September 2007 (CDT)
It doesn't matter much to me; I was just against it going on "What's going on" or "Best of" because I thought there was a general policy of not putting stuff we added ourselves (otherwise we could add all sorts of crazy stuff: "Look CP says Ann Coulter is the sexiest woman alive!" which sort of defeats the purpose). Protecting it isn't such a big deal, though I'm glad it has lasted for a little while now. I'm happy just to see what happens. DickTurpis 17:26, 4 September 2007 (CDT)
Gotcha, good point. As long as someone cares enough to copy it (and it's history of creation diffs?) to a CP parodies page here eventually. Too priceless to lose in the mists of time... humanbe in 20:32, 4 September 2007 (CDT)

Policy[edit]

Why not adopt wikipedia policy. If a user chooses a name to similar to another users, he should be blocked and asked to choose another [3]. Bohdan

Because we don't use all WP policy, just what seems to fly on here. Considering that you were the first person to create a "usernameX" sock, and no one complained... RW common law is already running against it. Especially considering I have not complained about "human2", which reinforces that others can make "usernameX" besides "username". Now, if you were to propose a policy that special character usernames intended to look exactly like an existing username should be illegal, you might make a case. Either way, you're going to have to go to RW:proposed guidelines, carefully formulate your suggestion and why we need it (including some evidence of disruption or probelms we couldn't handle any other way), and see who chimes in. humanbe in 17:15, 4 September 2007 (CDT)
Why? This has obviously disrupted me from my productive contributions to this site. I demand that the user with the name that has the special letter "a" be blocked. Creating a userX account can only be done by the user himself when he is trying to avoid a block or the influence a particular vote. UserX accounts should not be allowed either. I offer to delete my human2 account if you delete yours. And my tmtoulouse account. Bohdan 17:18, 4 September 2007 (CDT)
"This has obviously disrupted me from my productive contributions to this site." - I don't know about that, but it sure as hell has disrupted your contributive productions over at that Concyclopedia site that aims to replace Wikipedia. Sounds like a win-win to me! Godspeed!!! humanbe in 19:33, 4 September 2007 (CDT)

Oh yes, like the bureaucrat does not know! Look here: [4] Seems to be the work of Wikinterpreter...sounds like liberal deceit Bohdan
Actually, my IP is 82.44.64.173. The 75.xx.xx.xxx IP was me testing out whether a proxy would provide full anonymity. -- מְתֻרְגְּמָן וִיקִי שְׁלֹום!

Since you're apparently on right now....[edit]

....could you shut down this Ghawar goofball? He's being a trifle repetitive. ---Gulik 00:58, 6 September 2007 (CDT)

I'm on it, thanks for the tip. Hmm, looks like it needs more than the cursory two hours I gave it to cool off.humanbe in 01:04, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
He's at it again, this time via his IP address. --Gulik 01:16, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
Did you repair everything before, say, Chuck Norris? Around there I started to run into reversions so I stopped loading the files. Hmm, think I'll search the site for those brilliant lines... humanbe in 01:21, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
At least he gave us a great word to search for. Sorry I didn't hammer the IP as well. Nice work on cleanup, you and EVDebs!! humanbe in 01:21, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
He's ba-ack....: 209.62.62.138 --Gulik 01:22, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
I guess I'd better sit here and block every proxy he plays with at recent changes until he gets bored... Can you guys stay on the rollback squad? humanbe in 01:23, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
I need to get to sleep pretty soon. :-P But I can stay up a bit longer, I suppose. Think it's TK, driven insaner than usual, or just some random dimbulb? --Gulik 01:24, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
I suspect it's just a random dimwit who likes messing on wikis. Anyway, I can reload the recents for a bit and keep the carnage to a minimum anyway. Thanks, but really, don't stay up just for this. humanbe in 01:27, 6 September 2007 (CDT)

Can we just lock out anon IPs and registration temporarily? EVDebs 01:29, 6 September 2007 (CDT)

Don't know if I know how to lock out he IPs, but I can try. And regging, so they come in that way? Wow, that's rough. Let's see if he tries to get back in, but I appreciate your frustration. humanbe in 01:31, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
Well, cleaning up this mess is going to be like showering off after towelless sex on the beach -- messes are going to keep popping up for a while. And the reg thing is more precautionary. EVDebs 01:34, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
Sent you pmail, or sending, anyway... humanbe in 01:35, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
Ugh. This dumbass -- wonder if he was the same one messing around with the color floods yesterday? EVDebs 01:53, 6 September 2007 (CDT)

Stuff that has nothing to do with Human, feel free to enjoy[edit]

I dunno... off to look for more Bible slash fanfic, I guess. I hear someone's got some great Apocrypha Judas Maccabeus/Ezra the priest manga they've been working on. EVDebs 01:53, 6 September 2007 (CDT)

Rule 34! The goggles! They do nothing! -- מְתֻרְגְּמָן וִיקִי שְׁלֹום!
Well, I got a Song of Songs and a pair of sisters in Ezekiel 23 says that the Bible is its own Rule 34 anyway. (Is there a Christian teenage boy in the world who didn't spend some quality time with Oholah and Oholibamah? Betcha there isn't. Unless they were doing the D/J shuffle in 1 and 2 Samuel...) Essay: Conservative Intellectualism[edit]

Thanks for your efforts with that "prose." I was going to try to pull it over here, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it already here! I have to admit that I'm a little concerned that people seeing it will think it's serious--that we have the same regard for smart conservative people that Andy has for smart liberal people. I think it might be useful to closely associate it and any offshoots with Andy's original essay to prevent that.--Bayesupdate 21:48, 6 September 2007 (CDT)

No problem, I'm as good at ctrl-a, ctrl-c, and ctrl-v as any homskollar at CP! I'm sure with time you could have done better (not that it's bad, of course), but I was intoxicated by the fact that it lived on CP for a while. Heck, when I notice we have a "conservative this or that" article on RW, the first thing I do is make a liberal version for balance. And I'm a member of RobSsCommiez! Well, not kard-karrying, but I know he suspects me! (Because, um, I cast a shadow...)
Anyway, I think the way I presented your work here makes it clear it isn't RW's full rebuttal - that it was the work of a CP editor on CP. And, that it got burned to the ground by TK. humanbe in 21:57, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
PS, Essay:Liberal Intellectualism Parody is what we're talking about. humanbe in 21:59, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
Kool, thanks again! How do I sign up for the RobSsCommiez newsletter?--Bayesupdate 23:45, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
Just post anything suggesting that Corporate Capitalism isn't the Fifth Gospel of Jesus, and he'll sign you up. --Gulik 00:04, 7 September 2007 (CDT)

That oughtta do it... oh, and shouldn't Hoji's sandbox be moved to the CP: space now? Or does he want to play more in private for a bit? humanbe in 01:04, 7 September 2007 (CDT)
