Something to laugh at[edit]

This stupidity. As Stephanie Miller said a few days ago, "The only people who want Sarah Palin to run for president are those who've been living under a rock for a decade and liberals." The Noisy Orchestra Oi! Oi! Oi! 06:29, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Oh fuck laughing for the seventh replay! We should transcribe this illiteracy to her article. And the stupidity. FUCK Thank you Goonz! ħumanUser talk:Human 06:44, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
I love it when SP has that has moments. Her voice slows down as she realises she has no idea what she's talking about, then speeds suddenly up as she takes a wild guess & runs with it. WëäŝëïöïďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 13:27, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

ShooTag[edit]

(→History: and who cares? $30k worth of this silliness is worth $zero)

Sure - or, as I calculated on my blog, in material terms maybe a hundred bucks or so at most. But the real monetary value of their 'donation' is explicitly not the point. Like everything else Energetic Solutions does, it's all about smoke & mirrors. That generous $30k looks darn fine on press releases. Anaglyph (talk) 06:41, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Yes, it would, if it had any "real world" value. But thanks. A hundred bucks? Aren't they just blank credit cards? ħumanUser talk:Human 08:08, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
Cutting them a modicum of slack. A few cents for the cards, a penny or two for the ink. The fact is that they offer a 'recycling program' for the cruddy things anyway so for all I know they're just using second-hand issue. In which case you're right - $zero. Point is that it's irrelevant - it's just the publicity they care about. It's all about the headline on their site.
Yes, I got that. We should mock them more for it. ħumanUser talk:Human 08:22, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
I'm all for mocking. 122.107.244.140 (talk) 08:29, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
Hello 122.x.x.x, I don't think we've met. My name is 168.x.x.x or something like that. How are you today? ħumanUser talk:Human 08:31, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Yeah yeah. Stupid auto log out crap...Anaglyph (talk) 08:32, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Can't you turn that off? Like check the "remember me" box"? Not that it matters. ħumanUser talk:Human 08:34, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
I run an app that delegates all my secure passwords and remembers them in its smart but tiny brain. Thus, I remember ONE very tricky 16 digit password and it wrangles some hundreds of individual other ones. Super secure. Only problem is that it 'conveniently' ignores the 'remember this computer' checkbox in some kind of random way. Thus, I can be fine for a couple hours doing stuff and then 'pfft' I get logged out without knowing it. Annoying, but not as annoying as having to remember a dictionary's worth of baffling ascii strings.Anaglyph (talk) 08:40, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
I came up with a great way of creating an uncrackable yet easy to remember password. Never used it, though. ħumanUser talk:Human 08:48, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Rollback[edit]

Once again you are using rollback to revert edits that are not clearly vandalism. And in addition to removing the parts that you believe are "bad writing", you're removing uncontroversial and useful additions such as wikilinks. Please be more careful. -- Nx / talk 12:50, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

OMG I am so sorry! Thanks for fixing the one of twenty awful edits I fixed that I did so badly. ħumanUser talk:Human 02:48, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

Minnesota's very own, home-grown nuttery[edit]

If you think teabagger videos are funny and/or disturbing, you ain't seen nothing yet. Here's a sample of some extreme nuttery homegrown here in the state of Minnesota. Enjoy and/or throw up. The Noisy Orchestra Oi! Oi! Oi! 07:19, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

More interestingly, though, was that the Repubs had him give a prayer at the legislature.... the day they voted on an anti-gay marriage amendment nonetheless.
When was that recorded? The lady seems unaware that Minnesota's own Supreme Court struck down Minnesota's sodomy law in 2001, so it is not even there in an unenforceable capacity. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 01:06, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

archive[edit]

Probably should let people reply to you before you archive, or at least give them a minute to read your posts.--User:Brxbrx/sig 05:09, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Shut up I archived your case as well you idiot and don't tell me what to do until you've been here a year or two. Also you are wrong, I didn't archive any threads with recent comments by me. So, hey guess what? Fuck off, troll. You really are useless, you know that? ħumanUser talk:Human 05:11, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
I think Human was right to archive the two cases, which had come to their natural conclusions. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 05:13, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
Thank you LX, that's what I thought. I would never archive an active Coop complaint. ħumanUser talk:Human 05:14, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
??? chillax max. You archived Ace McWicked's case, even though you'd just commented there. I was momentarily frustrated because I was caught in an edit conflict responding to your comment. I could not care less if my cooping is present or not. Most of my wikidrama is garishly displayed all over the place. I really don't see how this particular comment managed to attract so much venom out of you.--User:Brxbrx/sig 05:20, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
You chill, idiot. I edited it yesterday, and there is a big long thread tailing out into nothing after that. Tell you what. You stop being a drama whore and shut the fuck up. Oh, answer to your last question, because you are an uninformed idiot who injects their ill-informed opinion into everything on recent changes. Take a step back, kid. You add very little of value here, I am sorry to say that so bluntly, but it's true. That stupid election page you put up? Where are the links to what mods are and can do and how many there will be, etc.? You are just a hyperactive drama whore. ħumanUser talk:Human 05:25, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

okay then... see this edit, made mere minutes before you archived the section. Silly vandalism question[edit]

You said on another user's page "There's no need to block anything but true spambots,"... do you know anything about spam bots? (this is for a site unrelated to you guys). if we missed one, and found the spam a few days later, is it likely that particular bot with that particular name would ever log in again? as in, do the people who write this crap, reuse names? or do they just keep randomly generating them... just curious if you know. and if you don't, no biggie! thanks.--Sun mowse.pngEn attendant Godot 21:54, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

I wish I could help there. I suspect that the writers will re-use names as long as they keep working, but more likely, they will keep using IP addresses as long as they aren't blocked. But really, I don't know. The user formerly known as user:Gooniepunk2010 seemed to have a pretty good handle on the process. ħumanUser talk:Human 08:09, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
There's no reason not to block a spambot account. But they'll come back with another username anyway, just make sure you have captchas, and if that's not helping, try a different captcha system. For example, RW and RWW used reCAPTCHA, but RWW was getting way more spam. Then I changed RWW's captcha to a math-based one, and now the spambots are gone. -- Nx / talk 08:27, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, what he said. Thanks, Nx. ħumanUser talk:Human 08:29, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Human is removing incredibly badly written material. I cut my teeth on the garbage that was your Magdalene laundry article, and you still write just as badly. And add things that are just as stupid. Moderator nomination[edit]

Hey Human. I guess you probably know already, but you're one of the nominees at the RationalWiki:Moderator elections, & haven't yet commented on your nomination. I know you're not happy with how ill-defined the role is at present, but it looks like elections are going ahead anyway, with nominations ending at 2:43am UTC on June 21 for some reason. If you want to stand as a candidate, you should accept before then. WēāŝēīōīďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 15:01, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

I dunno if I accepted in time. Though I doubt I stand an ice cube's chance in hell of being elected. Thanks for the heads-up though! ħumanUser talk:Human 07:58, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
Since nobody has formally called an end to nominations or confirmed whether the election apparatus is ready to run, I can't see how your accepting now could be a problem. WẽãšẽĩõĩďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 12:20, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
Cool then. In a stupid sort of way, since the election for those who will enforce the rules has no rules. Excellent. ħumanUser talk:Human 03:52, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Impartiality[edit]

You are far from impartial, other RationalWikians are noticing that you revert good edits that I make, see here. One thing a moderator needs is to be impartial and I hope RationalWikians will take that into account when they decide how to vote. Also please do not edit when you've been drinking. Proxima Centauri (talk) 07:58, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

One out of ten? Good luck. And I still disagree with that one. You are a poor writer, overall, and tend to dump your latest garbage you found here. Good luck. ħumanUser talk:Human 09:32, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Also, the command to not edit when I have been drinking is interesting. How about I order you to not edit without thinking? ħumanUser talk:Human 09:33, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
No comment on Proxima's edits specifically... but I think it is good form, when reverting another editor's edits, to give reasons for doing so (either in edit summary or better yet on talk page), rather than just reverting without comment. Yet you do not seem to be in the habit of giving reasons, rather just reverting and leaving others to guess what your reasons were (and, on those occasions you do give reasons, I've noticed they don't tend to be very informative either). (((Zack Martin))) 09:38, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Indeed, unless said editor has a history of endless illiterate, multiple edits to pages. Kissing the goat's ass gets old, ya know? ħumanUser talk:Human 09:41, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
I think you need your grammar nazis checked Human... a lot of it doesn't look like illiterate text to me. It's not "encyclopedic" style, but more like a pundit style, like you would see on The Daily Show, or The Colbert Report, but it's still grammatically well formulated. --Eira OMTG! The Goat be Praised. 10:08, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Human's grammar nazing must be working then, a year ago it would not have been coherent. - π 10:09, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
The substance of your larger edits is usually OK, so there's no reason to throw everything out. But Human has a point in that you also frequently insert sentences that are grammatically incorrect, sound more like direct speech than written material or don't really make sense. I like your additions and sources as far as facts are concerned, but paying a bit more attention to style would be nice. Röstigraben (talk) 15:38, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Also please do not edit when you've been drinking. That's fucking ridiculous. Ace of Spades 21:00, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

You have inspired me[edit]

You once told me that you visited the ocean "to feel small." Well, when the person in question lies about me on his blog, I gotta say it. OK, you're right, calling Gerwyn an asshole is over the top. He's just a liar. Gerwyn has accused me of financial misfeasance in my role as a trustee with no evidence. ħumanUser talk:Human 04:18, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
You know what? his blog has a comments section. That would probably be a better place to address what he blogs about. P-FosterCan't we talk about this, baby?Moderator 04:20, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
I did. The man is attacking my and my friend's position as trustees by suggesting we are mishandling RW funds. That is not just business at his blog, it is a direct attack on me as an editor here. ħumanUser talk:Human 04:24, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
And calling him names is helping how, exactly? If you want to drag him before the Coop, it's there for that. If you want the mods to intervene, we're there for that. If you just want to throw mud back, how is that productive? P-FosterCan't we talk about this, baby?Moderator 04:26, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Actually, what I did - just so we can clarify this for once and for all - is accuse and Eira of being unfit to serve as Trustees, due to your continued lack of judgement and an inability to act properly. I also mentioned that the Trustees are responsible for the finances of the wiki and should people with bad jusgement have that responsibility. Show me exactly where I accused you of "financial misfeasance". Show me. Quote me chapter and verse. Go on. --PsyGremlinPraat! 11:46, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

No I didn't. I've questioned your judgement as a Trustee. Where have I accused you of diddling the finances? Come on, I'm waiting. Where have I accused you of financial mismanagement? I haven't and you know it. Your rage in an impotent rage, because you're still mad that I called you out on your bullshit. Admit it. There are no accusations of financial mismanagement against you. Are there? Where have I accused you of financial mismanagement? Of diddling funds? I've said you're not fit to have the Trustees' responsibility dealing with funds and other impirtant matters. There's a difference - get over your rage and admit you were wrong. --PsyGremlinHable! 11:58, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Do you publsih accounts so you can prove everything is OK? If there are published accounts please tell us where we can access the information? Proxima Centauri (talk) 12:02, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Lol! You know how hard she would kick you for that, when you get there too? ħumanUser talk:Human 07:10, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

I first met Susan when she joined RW as a male, being justifiably paranoid about how women are treated in this boy's club we call the internet. After a week or two, she realized we were "not as bad as" and rejoined as her ladylike self. At the time, she and her girlfriend were flooded out of their home, and she mostly edited using a PDA. Using that clumsy device she wrote all our "help" files, and I proofread/copyedited her work for the big screen. There was a slight/extreme overuse of mentions of her favorite cheese, Stilton, but we all let that pass. As time went by, and she and hers slowly got their life back into order, and we gradually found out that she was struggling with cancer. She edited from the hospital. They thought she was in remission. They were wrong, I guess, or maybe she was just bluffing us a bit. We lost her earlier this year. She is the first person I would think of as a "peer" I have lost in this way - in this year of death which I will not elaborate on now. I don't think I am going to like getting older. My parents are still alive. If losing Susan makes me cry so much, over one song she made a Dyslexicon meme of (Ah "Vienna"), what will it be like to lose my parents? What will it be like when I have to get used to burying friends? ħumanUser talk:Human 08:10, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Well said, Human. steriletalk
Susan made me a sysop because I'd been here a month & hadn't broken anything. At that time (mid-2008) she was definitely one of the big personalities on the wiki, alongside Human, RA, Chaos & a few others. Then there were several LANCB incidents & some fairly transparent sockpuppetry, before Toast arrived. I don't know much of the details about her illness, as I think she didn't often like to talk about it on-wiki & I never had any off-line contact with her. Anyway, she was a big influence on the site & will definitely be missed. WèàšèìòìďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 19:14, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Human can do what he likes. The community decision was retarded and motivated by retarded interests. Human is a free person and entitled to do what he likes with his own userspace. If you weren't such a boring fascist cunt you would see that. 86.44.233.101 (talk) 11:08, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
How so, Ace? I let some amusing BoN stake out a space here. As far as I know, the low IQ reactionaries are going to now block MC for a couple of years so they don't have to face his amusing rants. Ace, let's get serious. Remember your introduction to this community - the hilarious HSTesque rants? Would never fly anywhere else. Your endless frotting and love affair with Nutty? Come on and get over yourself. You are just as much a beneficiary of my and others libertarian/anarchic vision of this site (which used to be held by many others) as the BoN who is using my talk page subpage as a temporary gaff. The people who want to silence others on this site are just dumb fucking cunts and have no idea of this site's history. ħumanUser talk:Human 04:56, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
I was not here at the dawn of time, but I have been here a while; and if you look back into site history, you will also happen upon TK, who like MarcusCicero (but unlike Ace) sought to sunder the community through trolling and other tactics. Back then, however, the mob was small enough and the Cabal's camaraderie was strong enough that things could not get so far out of hand. The debate over the Community Standards in my early months, the one that cost us AKjeldsen, was contentious, but peanuts compared to what we have done in recent months. Trolling is what is always has been, but the community has changed since the old days and trolls are now capable of much greater damage. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 05:38, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

I mean this truly, Human[edit]

I think you may have over-reached yourself here. Trying to defend me perhaps isn't the wisest course, not when Foster has dispatched his creatures to deal with you as he sees fit. No, probably better to abandon me, and I'd understand if you did so. I'm feeling really down at the moment, I remember what this site used to be like, unfortunately some people are determined to make it rule defined and boring. 86.44.233.101 (talk) 11:13, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

You've been blocked at Conservapedia by Karajou because the annoymous proxy server you were using was used by someone else to vandalize, and Karajou thought you were responsible. As a general rule of thumb, we don't allow the use of annoymous proxy servers at Conservapedia, so there's nothing I can do really to defend you on this one.
I personally distrust Rat-Wikians in general, but I was actually hoping you'd changed your ways. It's sad to see you throw away a second chance just because you're too coward to reveal your IP address. DMorris2 (talk) 18:29, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

I have decided to use the word "structuralists" as a more neutral tag for those who crave structure and rules, and stand in opposition to those of us who have been labeled "libertarians". I get that some people disagree with the community vote. But it was a full vote, and it reached a decision. Now this juvenile stuff... I mean, what's the endgame here? MC posts something, it's reverted. Human reposts it under his own sig, it's reverted as an obvious stunt. Now you repost it somewhat altered. It's obviously the same message, so you're obviously saying, "Fuck you guys, I don't care what everyone votes." And if we leave it be, then just as obviously it means that community votes don't really matter very much. I guess I could delete it, but the next version would just be a slightly more altered version, and it's hard to see where the line would be.
So... I mean, what do you want? Do you just think that community votes shouldn't matter? I'm honestly puzzled at where you're going with this, and at a loss with how to deal with it.--ADtalkModerator 04:51, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Good post! Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 04:52, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Part of the reason, AD, that I got tired of the mod business was because people like Human and Maratrean only went with a community decision when it suited. I agree with you on this matter but it isn't working - so instead of working myself into a lather...I am just going to be Ace. Aceace 04:54, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
I have a problem with the mods in general, cause everyone has such a different view of what they should be doing, what rules should and should not be, and what it even means to have a "community vote". granted, you did it, it's done - but for heaven's sake it is so out of control it is only going to breed more insubordnation, cause we aren't here to follow mods like they are gods. and AD, that is what some of you have been doing - even if you don't see it that way yourself.Pink mowse.pngEn attendant Godot 04:56, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
And that's fine and lovable. I just wish you could find ways to do it that didn't revolve around hilarious it is to cause drama. The group of users who deliberately cause it out of some sort of childish anarchism then leads to the other group that just complains about how everything is about drama now. But there's not really much fucking choice, is there? If you're going to keep causing drama like this and keep deliberately pissing around like a lunatic child who just discovered his dangly bits, then either the people who are bored with it either have to intervene or just throw up our hands and admit that votes don't matter and we can just be Encyclopedia Dramatica. But no, we have to be the fucking bad guys and fodder for the Fun Nannies to cluck over how obsessed we are with the rules and with where people are talking. Awesome.--ADtalkModerator 05:01, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
The reality is, you don't have to do anything. nothing posted by human, stupid or not, rules or not, is harming anything. There is a point where you have to look at the bigger picture. what are the rules for, and what does enforcing them accomplish. If you can show me that enforcing rules actually makes anything better, i'll support you 100%. but all I see are Mods who don't know if they should act, mod who (like me if you all were stupid enough to elect me) won't act, and mods who over act. why? cause no one knows or has any idea what the actual goals are with all these regulations. I'm sorry you think it's whining, but it's more about saying that there is something seriously wrong with what's going on. Pink mowse.pngEn attendant Godot 05:07, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
(EC) Well, the goal of the vote was to stop Human from retaining MC's edits on his page as a sanctuary, as far as I can see. You don't think it's harming anyone. That's fine... I don't think MC's words have some magical totemic power to murder children in their cribs, either. But when everyone takes a vote to stop Human from retaining MC's edits to his page, and Human proceeds to retain MC's edits to his page, then that's kind a of a problem. It'd actually the very problem we were trying to avoid, these nattering drama-fits.
I know nothing is going to really hang on this. If Human gets to just ignore a vote, it won't be the end of the world. And we do let things slide all the time (all the time). But when it's so blatant and pissy, like smashing an ice cream cone into the carpet because SUSIE GOT CHOCOLATE AND THAT'S MY FAVORITE, then it's just a big "fuck you" to everyone who voted. As in: Fuck you guys. What are you going to do, come and police my talk page like a school proctor? You'd just look fucking ridiculous. And eventually you'll throw up your hands and give up, because if I can just keep doing it you'll start looking authoritarian and like a bully. So fuck the vote, I'm going to do what I want.
I don't know. Obviously I've already said here I'm not going to keep deleting it if it keeps going this way. I guess I'm throwing up my hands and giving up on this one. Just me being the bad guy again, thinking that when everyone agrees on something, it actually should matter.--ADtalkModerator 05:24, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
sighs... i don't think you are "being the bad guy", i just thing that the "picking carefully the battles you chose to fight" is something this wiki would be wise to remember. Well, of course I'm the bad guy. I'm the asshole who has to come in here and say, "Hey you kids, get off the grass!" I don't want to start the AD Pity Party (yes I am) - it's a stupid fucking rule, because all rules and votes about talk page nonsense are stupid. But this whole goddamn conversation is me picking my battle. I didn't revert Ace or ban Human. I'm not calling anyone the vitriolic names that are on the tip of my tongue. I'm trying to explain my point of view, the merit of my position, and why I think this whole nonsense here was wrong. And I'm trying to explain to you that I am fully aware of just how fucking ridiculous it is, but that I engage it anyway because there doesn't seem to be any alternative. If I ignore edit wars, then there's not much point to being in a position that's intended to cut them short. If that means I appear like a self-indulgent rulesmonger intent on sucking all the fun out of the place, that's fine. (EC)Hey Human, the message oversighted from your talk page contained primarily (1) the (alleged) real name of the cheerleader troll, and her (alleged) hometown (2) the cell phone number of a very prominent member of the RW community (the later is already on Google, but who knows if it is real or not). There were a few other bits, but that was I think the two main bits of personal info (also some other female name, which I can't remember, but which is allegedly underage); and a few defamatory accusations. (((Zack Martin))) 08:00, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Oh and BTW, the message was allegedly from Mr. Cicero, but who can tell if it was actually him, or rather some impostor. (((Zack Martin))) 08:04, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

I have to agree with everyone else here, Human. The most important part was that they were releasing Trent's alleged cellphone number (I was, in fact, the one who began rev. deleting that incident), so this is a circumstance where I think the suspicion that usually follows rev. delete incidents is unwarranted. The Noisy Orchestra Oi! Oi! Oi! 10:39, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

Um, you do realise it's available via Google? (Conservaleaks courtesy of Karajou). Another example of why Conservaleaks is really really bad. And oversighting that is pretty pointless, if he's concerned he should get a new phone number. (The cheerleader troll's alleged real name is a bit different, since that name is not as much public knowledge as Trent's phone details are.) (((Zack Martin))) 10:47, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Regardless, it was a leak of private information. And, no, I don't care if Trent's cell # publicly available on google. Unless Trent himself posts that sort of information on RationalWiki, I consider it as priave and personal as my own cellphone number. Otherwise, it's just creepy stalking. The Noisy Orchestra Oi! Oi! Oi! 10:50, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
You do realise that anyone who doesn't know, and wants to know, should be able to work it out just by reading this page? (((Zack Martin))) 10:55, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Good for them. But, that still doesn't change the fact that RationalWiki shouldn't allow personal information about people to be posted here without their permission. If some lifeless moron wants to stalk Trent, let them waste their own damn time. The Noisy Orchestra Oi! Oi! Oi! 10:58, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Trent's phone number is public, it was used in the domain name registration. Still, I consider it private information, at least in the context of the comments that were oversighted. -- Nx / talk 11:13, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Agreed. Once again, unless that sort of "public information" is posted here by the person whose phone number it is, it should be considered private. If you google some other people on this Wiki, you can find their phone numbers, adresses, etc. But, still, even though it's public information, we as a site shouldn't be party yo posting it against the persons' consent. It's unethical and wrong at best and could send us down a legal slippry slope at worst. The Noisy Orchestra Oi! Oi! Oi! 11:18, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

Human,

You were elected on the basis of the enaction of revolutionary change. You easily topped the poll, followed closely by the other mobocratic candidates. Top reactionaries, such as Psygremlin and Nx were nowhere near getting elected. The regime will not release the true final tally as they fear the inevitable consequences of such information. The masses demand the restoration of the mobocracy. I once prophesised that a day would come where you would return, and herald the dawn of the new era. That day has now come. Dismantle the secret police, march the reactionaries to the gallows, and forge a new Rationalwiki, one defined by reason, compassion, and liberty! You must act now, else all will be lost. The dust had barely settled on the election results when I received this nasty missive from Blue (1/6/12):

Far be it from me to rake over old coals, but I would like to give you a bit of a heads-up: unlike bureaucratship, you aren't allowed to remove my or anyone else's moderator bit unless sanctioned by a community vote. We also have a set of voting standards and general procedures for votes that seek to change policy or deal with penalization of users, including removal of moderator rights.

Also, as a moderator you have the power to make it impossible for non-moderators to give a user sysop rights, through the user group called "sysoprevoke." The use of this group is completely up in the air and the subject of much recent tension, so be wary of using it without community approval. In a more general sense, there is a great amount of disagreement as to what the function of moderators is at all, so please try to tread carefully. Things you might have done without thinking as a bureaucrat might be perceived as abuse coming from a moderator.

The fact that I am telling you this, and the fact that this is private, are for the sole purpose of avoiding HCM.

I replied (1/7/12) "Put that on my talkpage if you think it useful. I prefer to work in public, when dealing with strangers.

I find most of it to be bureaucratic nonsense."

And for my trouble then received this further reassurance of good faith (emphasis in original; 1/8/12):

It's not in anybody's interest to start arguments, especially not in public. Old coals and all that. But you'll respond the same way - cavalier dismissal and hand-waving - if I write in good faith or bad faith, thoughtfully or irrationally. I truly hope to never have to interact with you again, but I know eventually we'll have a confrontation. Do you want that confrontation to lead to another May 2011? RationalWiki might just not survive another conflagration of that magnitude.

But who am I, a scoliotic, gender dysphoric, mildly autistic teenager, to tell someone such as you to watch your step? Nobody. So go forth and be merry, safe in the knowledge that I will sooner retire, scramble my password and prevent my computer from accessing rationalwiki.org than see myself forced into a confrontation that might cripple everything I've worked for and the community I have enjoyed for nearly four years.

Or you could just step down and let ListenerX become a moderator. But I doubt you've read this far. You rarely do.

Since I posted this email which I own - note that "privacy" is given up when a letter is sent - Blue has removed it from my talk page and even "protected" my talk page.

Anyone who messes with this object of discussion - this complete attack on me and even threat to go "May 2011" on me - has no honesty to call upon. This person called on me, two days after election, to resign! I present this communication as an example - for the second time - of how some people think it is ok to "run" this wiki. ħumanUser talk:Human 03:58, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Nx, please stop being obtuse, you are smarter than that. Did you even consider the content of what Blue wrote? I'd think it'd follow wiretapping laws, which, in most jurisdictions, require one party consent (i.e. I can tape a conversation to which I am party without your consent). It's interesting that in email, there should technically be no expectation of privacy (if you're transferring it in plain text), however, there seems to be. Completely irrelevant, but what feels right to me is that one party consent should apply, even if the other party requests otherwise. Occasionaluse (talk) 00:08, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Reagan as the best president in US history?[edit]

Ridiculous question. Reagan was an embarrassment to the 20th century. ħumanUser talk:Human 02:32, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

What are your reasons for saying he was not the best?

He saved the world from tyranny and cut the people's taxes. Moonshot926 (talk) 10:59, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Reagan was a hack who read his queue cards. And to the "he cut people's taxes" point: BULLSHIT!!! Yes, he cut the taxes of the rich, but iof you look at the actual, statistical data, he raised taxes on the middle class an poor numerous times. And this is just the start, lest we ignore things like Iran-Contra, his training and funding of the mujihadeen (yes, Reagan is directly responisble for bin Laden), and on and on and on. The Noisy Orchestra Oi! Oi! Oi! 11:06, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
And on the "savng the world from tyranny" point, that is also bullshit. He replaced communistic tyranny in South America with death squads, and allowed the Middle East to fall into the hands of Islamic extremist nutters. Yes, the Soviet Union fell a while he was President, but that was the consequence of the communist regime itself and not of Reagan. And look at just how fucked up he left Latin America. "Saved the world from tyranny" indeed, so long as you are ignorant to what he actually did! The Noisy Orchestra Oi! Oi! Oi! 11:10, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Well, i would like to correct you because you made a huge errors.

"!!! Yes, he cut the taxes of the rich, but iof you look at the actual, statistical data, he raised taxes on the middle class an poor numerous times"

As a result of ERTA and other tax acts in the 1980s, the top 10% were paying 57.2% of total income taxes by 1988 - up from 48% in 1981[3] - while the bottom 50% of earners share dropped from 7.5% to 5.7% in the same period. The total share borne by middle income earners of the 50th to 95th percentile decreased from 57.5% to 48.7% between 1981 and 1988.[4]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_Recovery_Tax_Act_of_1981

The poor were paying LESS share of taxes and the rich were paying MORE share of taxes thanks to Reagan. 24.189.254.24 (talk) 11:25, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

"his training and funding of the mujihadeen (yes, Reagan is directly responisble for bin Laden), and on and on and on."

On July 3, 1979, U.S. President Carter signed a presidential finding authorizing funding for anticommunist guerrillas in Afghanistan.[3] Following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in December Operation Storm-333 and installation of a more pro-Soviet president, Babrak Karmal, Carter announced, "The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan is the greatest threat to peace since the Second World War".[23]

Jimmy Carter started the funding of the Mujahideen. Important detail? 24.189.254.24 (talk) 11:25, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Your statistics compared to mine are flawed. So the rich payed more taxes per capita. THAT'S BECAUSE THEY SAW AN HUGE INFLUX IN THEIR INCOME!!!! Look at the ACTUAL TAX RATES! The rich paid the lowest tax rates in 100 years under Reagan while the actual rates of the middle class and poor went up! If you are going to debate me, make sure you are talking about the same statistics, not strawmen statistics like you threw out. Secondly, under Reagan, support of Mujahadeen activity increased 100 fold. Again, Iran-Contra is a prime example of this and, whether you like it or not, Reagan was 100% responsible for Iran-Contra. And there again, we have the problem of his funding of death squads in Latin America that murdered thousands of civilians, all in the name of "fighting communism." Get your facts straight. The Noisy Orchestra Oi! Oi! Oi! 11:32, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

The median family income increased $4,000 under Reagan. The biggest increase in the past 40 years. Also Reagan whipped inflation.

1976 = 5.75%

1977 = 6.50%

1978 = 7.62%

1979 = 11.22%

1980 = 13.58%

1981 = 10.35%

1982 = 6.16%

1983 = 3.22%

1984 = 4.30%

1985 = 3.55%

1986 = 1.91%

1987 = 3.66%

1988 = 4.08%

Look at inflation under Carter(1976-1980) versus inflation under Reagan(1980-1988).

I remember the 1980's. Everything was great under Reagan. There was a huge influx of capital thanks to his tax cuts. The tech industry boomed. Microsoft, Apple, IBM all got big at that time. SDI was not a boondoggle. Very imporant research was done in national laboratories and universities. I thought liberals were in favor of the government funding science? SDI would eventually lead to the Patriot system, THAAD and the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System. So it was hardly a waste. Moonshot926 (talk) 23:22, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

Very imporant research was done... Very important research in the very important fields of blowing people up. Liberals are in favor of the government funding science, yes, but they prefer to leave the science of killing large amounts of people to the private sector, rather than directly funding such things with taxpayer money.
I notice you didn't respond to my point about Reagan ignoring the growing AIDS epidemic. Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 23:28, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
Yes, but lots of the technollogy we use today was derived from Cold War military technollogy. For example, GPS was developed for guidance of ballistic missiles. So i guess you could say that GPS was developed with the intent to kill millions of people. So, in your opinion, GPS was a waste of money. The HIV strain was not definitively identified until 1984/85. So Reagan's first term was already over. At the time, the outbreak of the disease wasn't even called AIDS -- it was called "GRID," which stands for "Gay Related Immune Deficiency." At the time this was thought to be a "Gay related" illness which didn't concern mainstream America. Reagan was no different from anyone else in this regard. The fact is, until the disease started to spread outside the Gay Community, there wasn't much that any government did to combat it. Moonshot926 (talk) 23:54, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
