Are you sleeping at night?[edit]

How's fatherhood treating you? PowderSmokeAndLeather: Say something once, why say it again?.Moderator 03:17, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

Yeah we have a good system. I sleep pretty well actually. From a science perspective watching my child develop is fascinating. Oh yeah, I love her and all that too. Acei9 03:20, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

How is it possible?[edit]

Okay, I'm gonna be honest here- how the fuck is it that you can be such a fucking douche- and yet so frigging likeable at the same time? I mean, even when you were calling me an attention whore, I was both angry, and yet, at the same time, I was just like "hahaha, that's good ol' Ace for ya". I mean srsly. Why? Serious question[edit]

Ace, I got a serious question, so bare with me. Assuming the human species is 2,500,000 years old (verses the creation myth of 10,000 years), meaning the human species has 250 times the experience of living than creationists say, why is the human species still so fucking stupid? If the human species has 250 times the experience creationists claim, why haven't they figured out how to feed themselves yet and unemployment still stuck at 8%? The YEC argument seems more plausible in dealing with a host of social and economic maladies. nobsJesus loves you and I love you, but nobody else does. 21:59, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Indeed, 2,500,000 years of human experience yet there are still people stupid enough to believe in the creation myth and ask asinine, malformed questions like you just asked. Mind boggling. Acei9 22:36, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
You're right. I deal with Christians, idiots, and sinners all day. I forget I'm in the presence of geniuses at RW. You can understand my malformations, hopefully. Sorry. nobsJesus loves you and I love you, but nobody else does. 23:30, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
Apology accepted. Acei9 23:34, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

and for the gossip record[edit]

Olivia is the reason I left FB. I fully disagree with what your group did. but i fully, totally, completely know why you wanted to do it. She is a smart, educated woman, but in my opinion, she got a bit "queen bee" like, and enjoyed the "olivia will ban you" game, and it just went bad from there. 2-3 months ago, we dealt with the variety of positions (from MRA to just "is this really true") with some measure of discussion. then the injokes began, and it became a giant meme session. Though it is worth noting that even before the whole mess, when discussions about feminism happened on the FB page, they were often the longest, the most well argued discussions at all. So it really does drive people - on all sides. clearly. One tin soldier (talk) 14:52, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. I appreciate it. Acei9 20:53, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
"Then the injokes began?" ummm what? Injokes did not *begin* 2-3 months ago, more just showed up thanks to some regulars and new users. Olivia wasn't even responsible for most of the injokes to which you are probably alluding (Hobbes, DoomPaul, Jimmies, Stalin, etc), so all it sounds like is you are whining about not being "in" on said injokes. Message to Ace

RobS,

Please tell Ace that the slow moving godless Kiwis will be no match for what is going to be unleashed upon them in the 21st century (see: New Zealand and obesity and Kicking atheism, agnosticism and evolutionism when they are down. Why its time to crush godlessness like an aluminum can).

Evangelicalism is slowly growing in his country and the 21st century global desecularization will accelerate this matter.

The agnostic professor Eric Kaufmann told his secular neighbors in Australia: "The trends that are happening worldwide inevitably in an age of globalization are going to affect us."[4]

I hope this clarifies things for him. Conservative (talk) 13:09, 2 July 2016 (EDT)

How lovely. Nothing ever changes in Ken's world. He has been rehashing the same shit since he first popped up at CP. He obviously knows nothing about NZ as NZ has been consistently moving away from organised religion with Christianity now reported in under 50% of the population with a further 1/3 citing "no religion". But Ken will always labour under the same delusions. S'all good with me. Acei9 20:55, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

Language usage[edit]

Unless appropriate/amusing/necessary each swearword subtracts 10 points from the validity of any statement, and 50 points from anybody's interest in what you have to say.

Current status - insufficient interest to be insulted by what you say. Anna Livia (talk) 11:32, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

then why the fuck comment? “I’m so uninterested in you I feel the need to remark upon how much I am ignoring you”.Acei9
Read the first sentence: and paraphrasing a recent quote which was paraphrasing a line from a TV show.
Do you only know one swearword - and are you aware of 'unfunny vandalism'? Anna Livia (talk) 18:32, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
I don’t watch TV. Swearing on a talk page isn’t vandalism. I’ve been part of RW for 10 years and know what constitutes vandalism. Are you seriously getting all hotheaded over the word fuck? Jesus mutha fucking Christ on a shit wheeled bicycle - are we not adults? Acei9 19:09, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
If you are an adult #behave like one# (or watch the 10 hour film on paint drying).

"Unless appropriate/amusing/necessary each swearword subtracts 10 points from the validity of any statement, and 50 points from anybody's interest in what you have to say." Isn't that kind of a variation on the Tone argument? RoninMacbeth (talk) 19:40, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

Given all the above I’ll talk, swagger, sway, stumble and fuck up talk pages as I see fit. You ghoulish banshees will not restrict my freedoms. Excellent - thank you sir. But wait, is this my beach pistol or is it my bedroom gun? One needs the right tools for the job. Acei9 21:44, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
Swearing is most effective when used sparingly/appropriately/with amusement and a deft hand rather than in a manner that encourages people to bleat 'But I thought this was Rationalwiki!', and which leaves you no way of expressing slight annoyance or 'I am bigly annoyed, so bigly beautifully annoyed it would amaze you.'
Freedom of speech implies or even requires responsibility of speech (the 'not shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theatre' argument).

(reset) To state that 'Excessive/irrelevant/inappropriately used swearwords annoys people and is likely to cause them to disregard the validity of your opinions and/or completely ignore you at best, and indulge in more negative responses of various kinds if they are or become so inclined' is a valid viewpoint (and an adult one as well).

While effective arguments do not need swearwords, his use of them does not make his arguments less effective. If Ace wants to swear, let him. RoninMacbeth (talk) 16:37, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
And effective usage of swearwords #can# add to an argument, comment, or joke etc.
The point being made was - 'words considered offensive' should be used to 'sting like a bee' and amaze others with verbal fireworks not be a nettle patch. 17:32, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────But that's not what you entirely said. You said his swearing made his argument less VALID, which is blatantly false. Can too much swearing make an argument less likely to be listened to? Sure. Does it detract from the veracity of his points? No. Also, assigning "points" to something like an argument on a wiki talkpage is stupid. This isn't AP Lang. RoninMacbeth (talk) 17:42, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

To a BritEnglish speaker 'AP Lang' means nothing. People #are# likely to consider arguments less valid if 'swearwords etc' are used (or even disengage from the context). Anna Livia (talk) 17:59, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Ah. "AP Lang" is an American class about use of the English language in rhetoric. It doesn't matter if people think his arguments are less valid due to swear words. Just because they do doesn't make it so. RoninMacbeth (talk) 18:10, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
On the other hand, I do think that excessive use of swear words start interfering with your message and losing their effect the same way if you overuse superlatives. It gets tiresome to read. I still think sparingly is a good practice when it comes to swearing. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png 🎄LeftyGreenMario!🎄 19:19, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Jesus god almighty, is this ‘’still’’ fucking going on? Shit man, I wasn’t even making an argument that could be discounted because I swore. This is amazing. Acei9 22:12, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

The point is - we all know a range of swearwords and 'words that annoy' but some of us choose not to use them unless we feel it appropriate/necessary - and many people assess the significance and relevance of others by the language used (including grammar and spelling).
And remember for every person who suggests an alternative way of presenting your ideas that will lead to more influence there will be many more who 'deal with' your remarks by completely ignoring you.
RoninMacbeth - if people consider that swearwords (or other aspects) are making an argument less valid then to some extent they are right. Anna Livia (talk) 09:38, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
I got a couple things to tell ya - I fucking swear. I didn’t make any fucking arguments that could be rendered invalid by swearing. So, to deal with these two things that are concerning to you. Get the fuck over it and what the fuck are you talking about. Go the fuck away if swearing bothers you. Jesus fucking Christ man, you are getting so gaoddamned wond up about things you have to power to change man. I’m not annoyed. Baffled, bemused, confused, befuddled and slightly disturbed but not annoyed. You behavior is very strange - you hate the swearing but come here to talk to me when you know I’ll just swear at you. You’re a glutton for punishment, my man. A regular fucking sadist. Wouldn’t fucking surprise me in the slightest if you are sitting round naked with a car battery hooked up to your nipples so you shock yourself with every utterance of the word fuck. Hot damn, that’s it. Shocking yourself while hanging strips of raw beef from your ears while a Komodo Dragon circles the room ominously, occasionally snaking it’s rough purple tongue against your bare thighs as it draws ever nearer. The "fire in a crowded theater" argument is in reference to threats, not swearwords. There is no form of national law in the U.S. banning the usage of swearwords. Short version, you don't have a leg to stand on. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 11:33, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
yes masochist, thank you. I call my girlfriend ‘man’ all the time and she hates it too. I’m glad I’m amusing you, that’s kinda what I’m trying to do here. Rationalwiki has no code which compels me to be courteous to you or anyone. I’m just trying to enjoy myself. Have you never wanted to fuck a Komodo dragon? Imagine the fucking spawn you’d produce? There are better ways of amusing people than trying to get a reaction out of someone who states they are amused by your activities (and who may be being condescending/sarcastic). Anna Livia (talk) 12:36, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

Malcolm Tucker from the TV series 'The Thick of It' (available variously) and the magazine Viz - the former has a more creative use of swearwords (and Dr Who played as MT would have been 'interesting'). Anna Livia (talk) 09:45, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Knowing what this site was like eight years ago, it is amusing to see people get offended so easily on here. I fully believe the clusterduck with Avenger in the election was a prank by the old guard that resulted in epic results. I don't think most of the newbies are aware that this site was founded by trolls. Oh, and to add to GrammerCommie's explanation of what emo people do, they do more than just "mope around"; they cut themselves and (in the case of Columbine, MSD, Santa Fe, Marshall County, etc) shoot up schools. What a Wonderful World (talk) 15:35, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
But my comment #is# somewhat valid - that excessive non-relevant 'language that annoys other people' #can# distract from whatever arguments are being made. 'It's a matter of personal taste and context' could be a reasonable response. However a 'slam-dunk insult' (which take a few moments to be understood) or a 'Sir Humphrey Appleby-ism ('You are being very wise (=very stupid) Minister') can be far more effective. Anna Livia (talk) 18:29, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
If you're into all of this seriousness, why the heck are you part of RationalWiki, which is into snark, cuss words, block wars, and mockery? I'm literally a fundie and try not to cuss, so I get where you are coming from, bur this site still isn't all that serious, it never will be, and trying to turn it into a serious site would be like trying to turn Conservapedia into a politically neutral site. What a Wonderful World (talk) 02:07, 7 June 2018 (UTC)
Anna, please just fuck off now. You’re not going to stop me or anyone swearing and your point is invalid because I never made argument which could invalidated by swearing. I tire of your continuous moaning and bitching so take it elsewhere to someone who gives a shit. Acei9 02:55, 7 June 2018 (UTC)

Like spices/flavourings and some other things, swearwords work best if used sparingly (especially if only a few such are used) - and know how to 'sting like a bee' rather than use a bucket of stinging nettles. I am not saying people can't or shouldn't use swearwords, but that they should be selective, preferably inventive, and know the art of the put-down.
I #am# familiar with RW's modus operandi - and 'calm amusement at the vagaries of human nature' can be the best form of attack.

Pass the beer, mate! By the way, what the fuck is up with this Horsy Sauce, blocking for "Harassment" over a user page someone apparently didn't like. These people have become real candy asses. (Word to the wise, don't revert this comment on Ace's page unless you are Ace, he doesn't like that shit). What a Wonderful World (talk) 12:07, 2 June 2018 (UTC)

It's a long-standing troll who's been banned infinitely. He has a very recognizable style, usually making some offensive but not on its own bannable comment about making girls cry. He's vandalized pages and made tons of harassing statements towards users on this site. Blocking was more to keep him from continuing that than for just the rude userpage. (ƨɛɪᴙᴛᴎoɔ) (ʞɹᴀᴛ) ɒnippiɿqƧ @ 01:04, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
@Spriggina You don't understand. In the hey-day of the old guard, RationalWiki didn't block anybody, hence the existence of the vandal bin. If someone was an "unfunny vandal," they would be put in the bin where they could continue to engage the community but they couldn't go around blanking pages in mass or writing "CONSERVAPEDIA RULZ" on a hundred pages because they were limited to one edit every 20 minutes (but alternating between proxy IPs was a good way to circumvent that). Us Conservapedians, along with User:Marcus Cicero and User:Ex-Troll Cheerleader (who, unknown to them, was invited to mess with RationalWiki by me as an alternative to disrupting Wikipedia, and actually I used to participate in some of that sockpuppet shenanigans with her on this site), were the trolls of the day, and unlike the current leaders of this site who get offended over vandalism, the old guard would just mock us and laugh at us. I think someone even called Susan the C-word at one point, and she was like "please, is that supposed to upset me?" It wasn't uncommon for trolls to become sysops; I was a sysop, Ex-Troll was a sysop, User:TK was a sysop, and Marcus even became a moderator. So when you say "OMG, harassment," I'm pretty sure Ace just rolls his eyes and thinks you are a candy ass. By the way, you and @GrammarCommie are free to believe that I am that Elvis guy all you want, but I assure you if I were going to mock someone I wouldn't pick the very fundamentalist Christian denomination (Independent Baptist) that I am part of to mock like he does. This is actually what I've been up to on RationalWiki recently, which you can see is in the same network range as 71.208.106.249, my current IP. Not to bad for a politically conservative, religiously fundamentalist Conservapedian, eh? I was aiming to make the edits conform to the culture of the site. What a Wonderful World (talk) 02:01, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
I mean, I personally laughed off the stuff he posted on my talk (which was fairly mild in comparison to what other people got), but he's been far more disruptive than TK and not even funny. Some users have discussed LANCBing over the sexual statements and threats he's made as well, and with RW being pretty small we can't exactly afford to lose all of the people who have been attacked. Don't really give a damn whether Ace thinks I'm a "candy ass" for caring about user retention, but thanks anyway. (ƨɛɪᴙᴛᴎoɔ) (ʞɹᴀᴛ) ɒnippiɿqƧ @ 02:12, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

@Ace, most of these people on RationalWiki nowadays are high school and college kids, probably including the troll in question. True. I will also say, anyone posting threats in the wake Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Santa Fe, and of all of these school shootings and "if you see something, say something" is a dumb ass. Frick, I was afraid I was going to get in trouble for posting made up "dox" on pages two years ago when Pbfreespace3 was threatening to call the cops, posting threats is asking for it. What a Wonderful World (talk) 02:23, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
@Spriggina I have, they were quite interesting. In addition I'm (I can't speak for the others here) not so buch offended by the current generation of trolls as much as disappointed with them, and bored by their rather primitive attempts at trolling. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 02:25, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
(EC)(So that you're not left scratching your head, I was referring to a time two years ago when I posted something on a page as an IP two years ago that someone mistook for "dox" because someone else apparently had been doing that at the time, I thought their response humorous and overly dramatic because I wasn't aware of the on-going problem, so I started posting it all over the place, and eventually it turned into an HCM, and it was one heck of an HCM). Hm, I was just thinking... Do you know if Ex-Troll Cheerleader is totally retired from trolling here? A few months back, we had some drama regarding a user purporting to be a cheerleader, a sock of whom (according to the "sock"'s story, at least) had been being a bit disruptive, calling for genocide etc. I figured it was the troll mentioned earlier spinning fake stories, but considering the cheerleader part and her userpage seeming to coincide with this troll's timeline suggested that could've been ETC. Though I certainly don't want to reignite that whole thing, it would be interesting if that was an old user all along. (ƨɛɪᴙᴛᴎoɔ) (ʞɹᴀᴛ) ɒnippiɿqƧ @ 02:39, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
You are talking about User:Retired, and yes, that was her. I know the woman IRL. She was a pain in the ass on Wikipedia messing with the school articles I was trying to improve, little did I know all those years it was someone who went to my own high school. What a Wonderful World (talk) 02:42, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Or are you talking about the one who was picking on User:Retired? That's your harassment troll. I assure you Ex-Troll thought they were pathetic and didn't take it personally. Ex-Troll was just trying to mess with the elections, actually. What a Wonderful World (talk) 02:44, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Ah, that clears it up a bit. Makes sense; I wasn't exactly trusting of the narrative promoted by various socks of the guy posting threats to her page. Though they did say something about suggesting RW instead of WP for vandalism, so this troll is likely pretty knowledgeable about ETC or actually was the same person. If she was only trying to disrupt elections, the former is probably the case. (ƨɛɪᴙᴛᴎoɔ) (ʞɹᴀᴛ) ɒnippiɿqƧ @ 02:50, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Oh her, Aside from the minor spat with her she was actually kind of amusing. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 02:51, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Ex-Troll isn't a bad person. Hopefully this isn't considered outing her identity or anything (especially since she discloses this on her Wikipedia page, where she has been unblocked), but she's actually a school teacher up north somewhere. This harasser guy on the other hand needs to seek mental help. What a Wonderful World (talk) 03:06, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Agreed, give me a Mr. Splashypants or a Boaty McBoatface over harassment any day of the week, at least they're funny. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 03:11, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Aha, and that's where harasser's story falls short, as he said that Retired (supposed to be him) was a college student in Illinois, not a schoolteacher. Quite the revealing tale. I wouldn't consider the vague information you put there to be doxxing, FWIW -- "up north" could mean anything depending on where you live. (ƨɛɪᴙᴛᴎoɔ) (ʞɹᴀᴛ) ɒnippiɿqƧ @ 03:14, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
(e/c) If it's any consolation, there's a guy on Conservapedia who acts about the same way, telling the sysops to "drop dead" and occasionally posting threats, wonder if it's the same guy? I must say, he is annoying. I have his IP address too because I'm a checkuser, but his ISP won't do anything, despite his activities being blatantly against TOS. Too bad he's not on CenturyLink, Comcast, or Cox. What a Wonderful World (talk) 03:17, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Huh, might be. I think he's more interested in the attention he gets from attacking people, not exactly motivated just by our political views (as this troll was on Wikipedia back in the day as well), so that's definitely a possibility. I got the IP address of the guy from the autoblock log as well as some pages which he had vandalized, but it was a mobile IP, so complaining wouldn't work on our end (and we don't have checkuser to check again, though there was a discussion about it when considering him). (ƨɛɪᴙᴛᴎoɔ) (ʞɹᴀᴛ) ɒnippiɿqƧ @ 03:25, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
The mobile ISPs are the worst. T-Mobile and the old pre-AT&T merger have both straight up said they have no way of tracing abuse due to carrier grade NATing (law enforcement must love that), and while I'm pretty sure a persistent Conservapedia troll who came here to whine about being reported for abuse a long time ago was in trouble with AT&T over an abuse report I sent, I haven't had much luck reporting AT&T Mobility people lately, probably also due to carrier grade NATing. Embarq, Sprint, Qwest, Comcast, Cox, Time Warner Cable, Level 3 Communications, Telus, Bell Canada, Netzero, OCN Japan, Earthlink, Chunghwa out of Taiwan, British Telecom, and universities and schools in general have generally been the most cooperative for abuse reports, but the abuse has to be really recent (like within the past week). Verizon hardwire used to be, but did a complete 180 in that regard around 2010 (they are now one of the worst). AT&T hardwire I think sometimes responds and sometimes does not. Charter sucks (or at least did before the merger; haven't sent anything to them since then), Optimum sucks, Shaw Cable sucks, HughesNet sucks, PLD in the Phillipines sucks, and pretty much anything out of China sucks. The webhosts will respond, but since most of them are Tor nodes, reporting them is useless. What a Wonderful World (talk) 03:38, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I've personally never tried to file an abuse report (only time I've come close was our pet troll, and I couldn't do it because he was on T-Mobile), but I hear the popular home web hosts like CenturyLink/Qwest and Comcast are better on that like you said, and I imagine universities would be good as well due to the diversity/tolerance bent most of them have. Even though I despise basically everything Conservapedia stands for, I do hope that whoever your troll is eases up; nobody should have to deal with death threats, and it's really annoying to try to deal with suppressing harassment and banning trolls when they're dedicated. Yahubutt the issue of natural born citizen was never resolved. https://www.conservapedia.com/Natural-born_citizen#Meaning_of_the_term You'll recall the racist sexist homophobes who framed the Constitution didn't consider women human, so they determined citizenship by paternity, and Obama's pawpaw (on paper) was from Kenya. I haven't heard back from Bannon, Brietbart, or the Mercers yet to see if they'll back my nomination; I'm not sure if I should accept or decline. I value your input. What do you think? nobsI'm all yea'res 18:17, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
weirdly enough I was just sitting here thinking about you and your weirdness and I log on to find a comment from you. You are a strange man, Rob. Acei9 06:08, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

When are you going to accept the nomination? We need sensible people like you on the board, Ace, rather than CosmikDebris or FuzzyCatPotato. 71.3.195.138 (talk) 02:50, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
I have no interest. Acei9 20:47, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
