It was interesting, though, how the test sliced me very neatly into the four categories (I was 97-100% certain for all of them). I don't think the test is inaccurate, per se, but it is rather meaningless. Blue Talk 04:49, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Jewish atheist?[edit]

How is this possible, when being Jewish denotes that one has a religion? The computer virusGet infected 16:30, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

It's not necessarily a religious identity. Many secular Jews like me view it as an ethnic and/or cultural identity. Some secular Jews who view themselves as agnostic atheists might have a naturalistic view of god when they consider whether they'd accept one. I hazard to guess that lots of Reconstructionist, Conservative, and Reform Jews are atheists. Have a look at wp:Mordechai Kaplan and wp:Jewish atheism.
Yep, we are in pretty good company too: Jewish atheists. As a Jewish atheist, I'm not just part of a mass conspiracy to undermine the Christian ValuesTM of the nation's children, I'm also stealing your money through the use fractional-reserve banking and brainwashing you through the use of the librul-Jewish media. Nothing in particular, really. My semester has barely started, I'm kinda sick, and there's like 3 feet of snow outside and the city hasn't plowed a lot of it, so I have a shitload of time on my hands. It'll probably slow down exponentially by next week or so. :D Also, a lot of my contributions have been on libertarianism and economics, which were kind of content-dry when I signed up.Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 00:35, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

I have to say that's a new one on me. The hardest brand of gibbering lunacy I've heard is the inevitable Jewish bankster conspiracy theories. It does sort of make sense in the wingnut versions of the stab-in-the-back legend, i.e. the hippies and the shadowy liberal cabal in control of the media made us lose Vietnam and Iraq, so they obviously must have the power to undermine the entire economy as well.Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 23:03, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

As our resident economic go-to person, do you think you could do an article about investing in gold? We've got bits of it here and there insound money, gold standard (economics), and Goldline, but we don't really have a centralized article on investing in gold. ThunderkatzHo! 17:10, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Shady gold stuff is generally done through high yield investment programs and advance fee fraud. Besides that, it's usually stuff like Goldline or just outright fake gold. How hard was the GRE? ТyAhoy! 22:51, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

The math is a joke, really. There's nothing above high school/low-level college math on it -- I don't think there's even any calculus. The reading/writing parts are more difficult, but I didn't think they were too bad. There always seems to be at least one question in those sections that doesn't make a damn bit of sense and there's the occasionally really esoteric vocab question, but not terribly difficult overall. Destined for further academic slave labor, likely. I also don't touch abnormal psych -- those of us in cognitive psych tend to see it as the quackiest branch of the field. Psychoanalysis makes me cringe -- Freud may have been important in terms of popularizing talk therapy, but I think there's a good argument to be made that he actually set research psychology as a whole back. Fortunately, it's mostly regarded as quackery these days. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 03:17, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

Dude, I know more about CS and Bio than I do about pop culture or modern television. So, my scheme to be psychoanalyzed has been foiled.Тytalk 03:30, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
That it has. One thing I find particularly interesting is where psychology and history overlap -- conspiracy theories are a gold mine for that. Unfortunately, the last time a major attempt was made to combine the two it was utter bullshit, so many are reluctant to tread in that territory. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 03:50, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

You can just enable it, email me, and disable it. Hell I think I once posted a link here to a page with my full name on it. Тайговорить 20:51, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Is there something I should know? Well, there are a lot of things I should know, but you know what I know?Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 02:21, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
