Goonie/Spambot[edit]
Hiding behind a bot to feed the troll -- changing a user name, locking the page, altering talkpage comments, bypassing the LJ for reasons of dealing with a problem that is the LJ's very reason for being. On a similar note, should a user have cratted bot privileges in order to "fight" a troll, when that is supposed to be something the community does? TheoryOfPractice (talk) 14:36, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- Of course this will be overlooked. By creating a precedent wherein hide/revision could be used without significant community backlash, RW has allowed itself to become a potential victim of sysop ridden self righteousness in this way. You lot made a conscious decision to abandon your liberal principles in favour of this new authoritarianism, and now are paying the price. 86.40.215.72 (talk) 17:51, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- Marcus, did you perhaps miss this debate? ListenerXTalkerX 18:21, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- The only edit that was hidden was that of Spambot editing out MarcusCicero's personal attack on Tetronian. Btw, aren't personal attacks "frowned upon"? -- Nx / talk 18:24, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

- TOP, are you suggesting the removal of user rights on just the Spambot account, or on Goonie's other accounts as well? ListenerXTalkerX 17:57, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'm a little concerned about one user having multiple 'crat privileges, especially when they are using a bot in a way that infringes on the rules. Goonie might need a little warning, but I don't think we need to go after his rights on the whole. TheoryOfPractice (talk) 18:13, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- It is probably not good to have a separate bot-level account of that kind, especially one with bureaucrat privileges. We should take the account out of the bot group, at least. ListenerXTalkerX 18:18, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah! Invisible (on RC) 'crat actions are not good! (why can't he (Goonie) do it in person anyhow [unless it is a bot with strange botty powers]) 18:26, 12 March 2010 (UTC) ContribsTalk
- It's a real shocker that a sycophant like TOP would step up to slap Goonie on the wrist in a vain attempt to set the bar for punishment of administrative abuse low. 5 internets says the next time TOP abuses his powers (which won't be long) he cites this wrist slapping as precedent for why his rights shouldn't be stripped and why he shouldn't be railroaded out of here for tearing apart the fabric of this wiki. — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 18:42, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- I have neutered my bot. I have better things to do than care about MC's bitching and moaning over being oppressed when we all know he only comes here when he gets bored from playing D&D. The Goonie 1 What's this button do? Uh oh.... 18:58, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

- Lol, his reaction is actually quite funny. Considering he only did it because he thinks it makes him 'cool', he now has to pretend he's like, super hardcore, and 'doesn't even give a shit because his life is so fucking busy right now'. Be honest Goonie, you're spending the weekend in your mothers basement eating Haagan Daz, right? 86.40.215.72 (talk) 19:20, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
Based on MC's response, why are we even listening to that bitch here? And MC, tell me: what do you know about the nozzle tube for the 9H turbine? Is a gas flow of +/- 3% of the target acceptable when at -3% it seems to do more damage than we anticipated to the turbine? If you can tell me what an acceptable gas-flow tolerance is so as not to damage parts worth $225,000/per unit at 40 units, then I will answer your bullshit question. The Goonie Punk Can't sleep, clowns will eat me! 19:28, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- Hell, MC. If you think you can help, I can even send you our schematics in either GibbsCAM or SolidWorks, and send you all the static maps. The Spikey Punk I'm punking my punk! 19:33, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- Goonie, shut the fuck you irrelevant twatwaffle. Everybody knows you put up this bullshit front every so often, pretending that you have a personal life of any consequence and expecting normal people to pass remarks such as 'wow, your so super hardcore'. Grow up and cut your hair. Then come back to us when you join the world of adults.
- So who here likes jazz? I've been listening to a lot of Miles Davis's 1960s quintet stuff, and it dawned on me recently that as much as I love that group, I don't really have a lot of Wayne Shorter in my collection. Where would one start exploring Wayne in his pre-Weather Report years? TheoryOfPractice (talk) 22:23, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Renaming[edit]
So do we now rename the sock back to Jon?
I really hate the meme of renaming vandals/MC like this just for a joke, which seems to have been happening a lot recently. It makes a mess of their contributions & logs, which it's kindof important to be able to access easily when dealing with a vandal. E.g. the block log switches to the new name, but for some reason the vandal log stays with the old name, making it appear that the account isn't vandal binned when it actually is.
Renaming vandal accounts should be done only when really necessary - e.g. racist usernames, impersonating other users, etc. WèàšèìòìďMethinks it is a Weasel 19:12, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- Agreed. ListenerXTalkerX 19:22, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- Seconded, even though I started it. I think at the time someone said things could get messy if it became a meme, and, well, here we are. We should only change usernames as per the foul-tempered little mustelid, and not just to annoy some bored student. Totnesmartin (talk) 19:27, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- In a related debate, I recently renamed a user with the invisible "word joiner" Unicode character for a username to "U+2060," which has caused a controversy of sorts. ListenerXTalkerX 19:29, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think we should be scared of sorting out inappropriate names. It's not quite going to get to the point of DROP TABLE Users, but it's annoying and can cause a lot of confusion. theist 19:33, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- If the Loya Jirga decrees that, then so be it. But I think we've all had enough of ListenerX and his ad hoc rules and regulations. I feel like I'm stepping into Nazi Germany every time I sign on. Watch your step! You might have broken another one of ListenerX's unspoken rules! He's watching you! — Sincerely, Neveruse / Talk / Block 19:34, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

- Should we put the sockpuppet template on Jon's user-page? ListenerXTalkerX 19:40, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- Shrug, whatever. The comments on the talk page (which I've now unlocked again) make it apparent who he is. WèàšèìòìďMethinks it is a Weasel 19:43, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Resolution[edit]
I, Gooniepunk, hereby pledge that I will have nothing to do with MarcusCicero or his socks over here beyond binning and/or blocking them appropriately. I understand that if I violate this, I subject myself to being binned or blocked for a period not exceeding an hour for feeding the troll. Elsewise, I have rename my bot account to something else, and it has become an account for which the community can take out its aggressions and frustrations.
