2011[edit]
December 2011[edit]
- I honestly don't remember how I first found RW. It was some years ago, and I only signed up as an editor this past month. I have an account on Wikipedia (with a much more substantial user-page) with the same UserName (or nom de clavier as I like to call it.)--WickerGuy (talk) 02:06, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
- From a Facebook group called "Christians vs. Atheists (Discussion Board), where it was linked to me with the responses to CMI's vapid "Question Evolution!" campaign. Ever since, it's become part of my daily reading.--ChrisB (talk)
- Simply poking around the few unblocked sites on the school computers. RW came up, and I've been hooked ever since. — Unsigned, by: Da Orky Man / talk / contribs
- I'm a philosophy undergrad, and I was wondering if there was a contrast to creationist wiki.
- Heard on the grapevine this website had a Maratrean infestation. Looking to cleanse this place of his stench. DELETE MARATREANISM (talk) 04:23, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
- I think I heard of it several months ago, but I decided to get involved in it to try to translate some contents to Spanish. There are very few options for providing a reference or reading material in other languages! Today I got here from a post in Reddit about the lame "15 questions" from the Creation Ministries. --Ljvillanueva (talk) 19:10, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
November 2011[edit]
- I can't remember how I found this place, I think I was looking for refutations to YEC to debate my wing nut colleagues with and found a great load of the stuff right here. I've bee lurking around for a while... I like to lurk...Cwon (talk) 08:13, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- I honestly can't remember. It was at least a year and a half ago, probably more. I lurked. A lot. Then I sorta forgot about it for a while, and then remembered it this spring, which is when I registered. I then made a couple of edits and disappeared until a couple of days ago, stumbling upon it again and deciding to try to actually get involved. Time will tell if that actually happens. HolyKatana (talk) 21:12, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- I first became aware of the site through TVTropes. The content, especially the fierce criticism of the idea that autism is something to be cured, and the debunking of heterosexist arguments, made me interested, and I lurked for a few months before finally joining. --Opheliac (talk) 11:21, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
- My philosophy lecturer mentioned something called WikiSkeptic or something, while he was going on about the freeman thing, and how WS was wrong about hating on it. Sounded like my kind of thing, so I searched for it and accidentally ended up here. --I came, I saw, I shat (talk) 14:49, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
- Got pointed to Salem Hypothesis here because it got deleted from Wikipedia. 76.117.247.55 (talk) 17:05, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
- I was researching Jason Lisle. After finding article after article of how "great" he is, I stumbled upon his entry here, read the quote and thought, "How can anyone buy this drivel???" Upon reading the rest of the entry I realized that the quote was satirical, lurked for about two highly entertained days, and decided to get stuck here. I'mhome (talk) 20:17, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
- I looked under my carrot, and there it was! PintOfStoutTalk Good people drink good beer. 21:17, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
- First came across this site while reading about Schlafly's bitch-slapping from the evolution experiment (cannot remember the name of the slapper at the moment), then got connected here by TVTropes, and decided that I would stay, perhaps set up a little basket in a corner or something. GerardKalmbach (talk) 06:29, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
- I came to RationalWiki as a recovering fundmentalist/conservative after taking several science and philosophy courses as an undergraduate. RationalWiki was the perfect response to Conservapedia. Enitaseni (talk) 23:13, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
- I don't remember where I found this site from. Might have been from TV Tropes... but I think I found this a while back (around eight months ago). --Lolchocobo (talk) 21:00, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
- Found RationalWiki years ago Googling for some atheism-related stuff. I was reminded of it this morning by a post on Reddit. I decided to register with a view to maybe contributing a thing or two. NukeThePope (talk) 18:04, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
I was looking for DiagonalWiki and made a typoAbout two years ago, I was doing some study about Andrew Wakefield via Google. Kungo Gumi (talk)- From TVTropes' list of wikis. Q4 (talk) 23:45, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
October 2011[edit]
- I don't know how I first found RationalWiki...I'm going to guess googling some skeptical topic and RationalWiki was one of the top hits in the results. But I love looking at WIGO Clogosphere and posting its outrageous contents to my home skeptic site, and I also made my first addition to it today.--WolfBird (talk) 20:44, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

- Reviewed "Ice Age Now" website. Searched background on Robert W. Felix. Got a 1st page hit and found you. I'm hooked. Moxohol (talk) 18:20, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
- I downloaded a dedicated wiki-reader app thing on my phone and this was on the list of wikis that it could display. So I guess my first page would be the home page. Xeonneo (talk) 20:00, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

August 2011[edit]
- Wikipedia's Conservapedia page. I wanted ammunition to show how ridiculous they were, and found out about RW. It was one of the most important days of my life. Nwebster84 (talk) 04:39, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

- I found You a few years ago but not joined in Your Quest for RationalWiki. Thank You for the opportunity to write. It is very much appreciated. TLOS (talk)</Talk> 20:09, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
- Was linked to it by TVTropes. Crane (talk)
- Been following it for a while after I was introduced to the craziness that is Conservapedia. Nets awesome (talk) 18:21, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
- I think I googled about Jehovas Witnesses from a neutral objective view, to find a proof (for Wikipedia) that they cannot reasonably be called Christians, since they condemn and call "Satanic" other groups calling themselves "Christians", but realized that with Wikipedia's policies, this isn't doable, since I have to WP:SYNTHesize that them calling other groups implies the other not being of the same religion. That sucks, and in that googling I found a link to this site, and since it's rules (including the "mobocracy") agrees completely with my evil skepticism (bouahahaaa!) and my hands-off-from-science opinion, I registered. Rursus (talk) 11:01, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- Known about it for a while from Google results, just joined Darkstar (talk) 15:28, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- Word of mouth. ArchieGoodwin (talk) 21:42, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
- I think that I was linked here through the FSTDT front page? It's been awhile, so my memory is a bit fuzzy. Smedley (talk) 05:22, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Mark Crislip's stuff, I think... Who knows? I would've found out sooner or later though. Eye on the ICR talk, or type, or whatever... 05:52, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
July 2011[edit]
- I found the wiki via a reader's comment in Andrew Sullivan's "The Daily Dish" on July 4 (appropriate!). The reference was to the "deepity" entry herein. — Unsigned, by: Keizerbob / talk / contribs 17:16, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
- Lurked a lot, figured I may as well register an account so here I am. Aldy 08:30, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
- Conservapedia's sysops complaining. I checked and found this this lovely site75.155.214.245 (talk) 19:53, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
- I've checked out articles now and then. The idea is a really good one. I registered to whinge about our "unfair treatment" (by which I mean Illogicopedia, where I am also Gruntled), and to see if there were an article about chiropractic. Cheers! Gruntled (talk) 12:35, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
- I looked up "Skeptics Wiki" and this was the first no-wikipedia hit. ArJay (talk) 12:09, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
June 2011[edit]
- I was in an online debate regarding gay marriage (I have no qualms with same sex marriage, by the way). They made the age old point: "The legalization of
marijuanagay marriage would mean that it would allow people to marry their pets or anime body pillows". I exclaimed that this was Ad hoc reasoning and that the two had no correlation. They still did not seem to understand the concept of what Ad hoc reasoning is, so I ventured all the way to Google and proceeded to try to find them an in-depth definition. I popped my RW cherry on the Ad hoc article. When I took a minute to actually look around the site...well, it was love at first...site (awwww yeeeee). Don't believe me? Take a look at my Wikipedia User Page ...all of my colorful userboxes are in my eyes the epitome of the foundations of this site (check the history, it hasn't been edited). I'm a 17 year old student living in the American South. I needed RW more than you could ever imagine. Hope to have many laughs, gain (and contribute!) objective insight, and watch the world burn with you guys. TetraEleven (talk) 07:15, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- A friend was asking about "NASA's Blue Beam Project". Seeking a quick Wikipedia Synopsis, I discovered "here" -- looks promising at first glance. HalFonts (talk) 12:28, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- I actually found Conservapedia first when it was referenced by a friend, and used it to waste time reading all of the ridiculousness when I was supposed to be researching for a project. Found RW during some related search that I can't remember exactly. Been lurking around on the WIGOs and articles since then, made an account in response to ShockofGod's horrid videos. Eeshwan (talk) 03:14, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
- Like the above user, I found Conservapedia first, by means of a humor website that was making fun of it. They provided Liberapedia as a satirical alternative, and I intended to join, but quickly found that the site was basically dead. Luckily, I found a link to the Conservapedia articles on here. I'm glad, too--RationalWiki is excellent. Facepalm (talk) 16:50, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure I also found Conservapedia first. Somehow (probably Wikipedia) I found RationalWiki next and found it was a nice antidote to the nauseous feeling I got when seeing Conservapedia's opinions.Socal212 (talk) 00:18, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'm no different from most a' these lads n' lasses; I found Conservapedia first. For about three weeks I believed that it had to be a parody site created by liberals to point out conservative fallacies. When I realized it was real, I cried. Then I found this site by searching "conservapedia" on Google. Now I'm happy again. ConcernedCitizen (talk) 16:21, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- I wandered in a while ago from Citizendium where I'm a moderately active editor.Pashley (talk) 06:42, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
- I found out about the wiki via its article on Encyclopedia Dramatica. An Unsavoury Character (talk) 22:27, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
- I found the wiki a year or two ago via Google, but lately I've been drawn to it like a Conservapedia editor is drawn to the letters "ATHEISTS ARE FAT." Ank (talk) 05:02, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
- Funny enough, I could write exactly the same as user Carcinate above, because my story is identical. I was also wondering what's up with Citizendium these days, since there's no more news and the other wiki (yeah, I've picked that up from TV Tropes) doesn't say much about the latest developments, either. Needless to say, I'm not particularly saddened to find that Citizendium isn't faring any better these days than CP is. Despite a couple of things that annoy me on WP (I wish they'd finally introduce pending changes like in the German edition, as I keep finding entire sections of articles are missing or other vandalism has remained unrepaired sometimes for years, when the vandalism is less obvious to the reader who doesn't rummage through the revision history), I still find the criticism (mostly by outsiders who don't understand the way WP works, and the usually solid reasons behind its concepts and policies) massively and ridiculously overblown, and quite hypocritical in fact. So when rival projects and forks fail, I can't help feeling a certain satisfaction. Just one complaint: You are too addictive! Damn you, wikis! (BTW: My first impression of RW was quite different from my impression now – it seemed quite SERIOUS BUSINESS at first, but then I realised that there's a lot of silly but entertaining stuff and the informal and irreverent tone is really a lot like TV Tropes.) --84.151.185.90 (talk) 23:50, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
- I searched correlation does not equal causation on Google. I was about to click the WP article, when I saw that the second link has «RationalWiki» in its title. I wondered why would the site be named like that and clicked it instead. Nemerux (talk) 13:19, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
May 2011[edit]
- I swear our Dungeon Master kept this site in a tab all day. He would use it all the time to point out the stupidity of creationists and alt med practitioners. I think he has an account here, I haven't talked to him in a few months. Z-Rex (talk) 15:49, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
- Long-time lurker, finally decided to make an account. I forget how I found it, but the page was the Irony Meter. Augster (talk) 16:25, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Lenin told me, lol. Really, I hated Conservapedia's entry on Communism so I found this website. Leninist123 (talk) 20:57, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- Occurred to me that a scarlet A would be a suitable emblem for USian atheists. Googled. Learned of the Out campaign and baptistsforbrown2008.wordpress.com . Googled the latter together with "Poe's Law" because that's got to be a parody, right? I mean, right?? Landed on this very page. Zapakh (talk) 22:41, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- I saw it used as a reference in a presentation about Atheism. Your FAQ page, to be exact. John Childermass (talk) 19:52, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- My blog was referenced in an article here. Lady Catherine (talk) 00:27, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Comments on FSTDT referenced this wiki. I joined after being a regular lurker, and occasional anonymous editor. Jerenept (talk) 04:18, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- I was first introduced to it by a couple of friends way back in high school. Never got into RW.... Then I was re-introduced to it by a friend who actually had an account. After a while of reading the articles and viewing the dynamic RW community, it seemed interesting. So I joined.--Dumpling (talk) 04:25, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- I found the site when I was conducting a search on atheism, so I guess that would be my starting point. I'm a de-convert from Baptist Fundamentalism (it's been a gradual process over the last few years) so I've found the articles here quite refreshing, very informative, and much more rational. LeRajah (talk) 08:40, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- If I recall, it was looking for "Next to Nil" page (I apologize if that's not the name of the page) because it had a great example of extremely long odds (The deck of cards order.) I just kept reading because it was funny and got me thinking about cranks and such. (I wanted those odds because I was arguing with somebody about science... in Final Fantasy 7...) Revolverman (talk) 23:53, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- Quite randomly, i came across this fine piece of crock science, linked it on my Facebook profile, ended up mentioning the venerable Time Cube in the discussion that followed, wanted to find a page nicely summarising mr. Gene Ray's fine "work" for a friend and landed on the Time Cube article. And then proceeded to waste a few hours browsing through RW, when i should've been working on my thesis (due June 10th). Now if that's not quality procrastination, i don't know what is. Orcinus (talk) 02:19, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
- I was going on a too interesting, must open moar tabs mania on tvtrope and RationalWiki was linked for further reading. Good day.
- A friend and I were laughing about CP in school, and he ended up showing me RW. While I read extensively since then, I didn't actually join until several months afterwards. Even now, I'm mostly a lurker.
- I found Conservapedia and RationalWiki about half a year ago on TVTropes. I finally registered for an account today after having lurked all this time. RJaguar3 (talk) 04:04, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
- I found RW by chance reading some of the scientific articles. Love the vibe here, too much idiotic bullshit in the world... Markedc (talk) 15:59, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- Can't remember, been reading it for ages before finally getting an account :) Natman (talk) 19:58, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

- I was spying on Rpeh to Wikipedia where I found a link to here. :þ --DKong27 Talk Cont 19:18, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- I can't even remember how I first found the RW, but it was probably through Google. I've visited the site quite a bit in the last few years, during my eye-opening and liberating "fall" (I should say rise) from faith to atheism. Viva la Evolution! Sartorius (talk) 06:05, 8 April 2011 (UTC)Sartorius
- I've been lurking for about a year. I found this site while hunting my... my prey. DexterM (talk) 02:03, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- I found it after reading Denialism by Michael Specter. Funken drumble (talk) 00:27, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
March 2011[edit]
- Conservapedia has been a great source of humor for me for a while now. I found out about RationalWiki from the Conservapedia page on Wikipedia. --Tabrcg23 (talk) 04:07, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- A search phrase sent a friend to RW and sure enough, there it was: Chronic Oxygen Debt Syndrome -- a made up term (and yes it is). I had to comment, since it's my product/sciene brought to question, and am highly entertained by the site. Oxygenorchard (talk) 00:02, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
- I joined 2 weeks ago (technically I should add myself in february), but I've been lurking rationalwiki since last year, after andy schlafly started his "conservative bible project" (I first read about that at slacktivist blog)
(talk) 01:39, 4 March 2011 (UTC) It's 20:39 in Colombia.
- I was nosing around some talk pages on WP, reading about some old sysop/admin controversy fm 2007 [Nobs01], and saw a link I thought would take me to CP, and here I am! I think I'll be much happier here than at Conservapedia.
Ragityman (talk) 06:07, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- I googled Citizendium looking for reviews of it, because I am interested to see if it will fail, as I privately predicted when it started - because Sanger is a clever guy but when it comes to the crunch, he doesn't understand how to manage people and is too driven by ideals and ambition to start a successfull online encyclopedia, even after three tries. The fifth hit was RationalWiki's article on it, which I found to be extremely interesting and well informed. It gives several different credible indicators of progress, all of them pointing down. Carcinate (talk) 00:04, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
- Welcome to RW!Citizendium is an interesting little project. I just joined over there. Definitely much more of an encyclopedia than Conservapedia will ever be. Might I ask your impression of RW as of far?--Colonel Sanders (talk) 00:09, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
- I'd be getting the lulz from Conservapedia for several months and I felt that I needed to find a place at which I could take the piss out of it on a global scale. --Ozdemocracy (talk) 09:13, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- I originally found this wunderful website via the daily telegraph's online article about the rules of the internet. Oops sorry, I've already broken something. Liberalbritishtroll (talk) 15:15, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- I first found RationalWiki last summer when I was doing a paper on homeopathy for my English course. It was very much anti-homeopathy, which is not a popular position to take in Santa Cruz, California and didn't do well. Totally worth it though. :-P I've been reading the site ever since and have made a few anonymous contributions (mostly fixing typos) but haven't registered til now. --Roofus (talk) 03:18, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

February 2011[edit]
- I was looking around the web when in Wikipedia I found about the Creationism vs Evolution Theory debate. One of the links brought me here, and I discovered that this Wiki was both hilarious and serious. I once also checked on Conservapedia and I saw that it was hilariously bad. I study Physics, so I think this is probably one of the places I can contribute most. RationalSpanish (talk) 19:50, 3 February 2011 (UTC+1)
- I've known about this site since last year, but decided to join just now. I learned about Conservapedia through Uncyclopedia, tried to laugh at it, looked it up on Wikipedia, then found Rationalwiki. So I've been jumping around here and there. JabberwockDownTheHole ( talk) 20:48 6 February 2011 (UTC)
- Actually been a reader for long time. Initially found through link on The Blasphemer's Bible site. Can't say what my fav article is. Grim
- I operated a user account on Conservapedia for a while, and somewhere along the line I found Rationalwiki through the connection, so to speak, between the sites. I've been reading RW for years now, though, and finally got around to creating an account. αTalk 13:04, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

- Found it on Wikipedia when reading about Conservapedia. Rationalize (talk) 01:10, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Bought The Greatest Show on Earth, by Richard Dawkins, which mentions the Lenski experiment, and the name Andrew Schlafly. So I looked him up in Wikipedia, redirected me to the Conservapedia page, where it mentions RationalWiki. The rest, as they say, is history. Danoso (talk) 07:20, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- I honestly don't remember. Long-time lurker; first-time poster. MadameHardy (talk) 05:41, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
- My friend who knew what I worked on sent me a book by Denyse O'Leary titled By Design or by Chance? I read it and wanting to advise the author on her problems I typed author's name into google and this way I found myself in RW, noting that contrary to my suspicion based on my experience with my university populated by believers rather than thinkers this planet is not inhabited exclusivey by idiots as Carl Sagan said about possible impression of an extraterrestial looking at our planet. JimJast (talk) 14:13, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

- I stumbled across RW a while ago, I don't remember when... I was kind of building up this thing with atheism, which lead me to naturalism/rationalism and I think a blog I was keeping up on referred to the site. What RW's helped me to realize is being "rational" has nothing to do with what pretensions I hold or whose side I'm on. I hope that's gone toward making me a better person.
