Welcome to your mother's basement! Here you can ask for autopatrolled, sysop rights, ninja rights, or tech rights.

Please include your reason for requesting the rights. For example, if requesting sysop rights, one could say: "I've been here for bloody ages and you fuckers forgot to give me sysop".

Please also {{ping}} a mod -- otherwise, nobody will respond.

Tech: ClickerClock (approved)[edit]

Might as well as I'm attempting to fix some technical problems that require tech access. ClickerClock (talk) 12:22, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

Do you folks want me to help with fixing the gadgets or not?ClickerClock (talk) 05:57, 7 July 2017 (UTC)
No-one looks at this page, I've just made you a tech. Christopher (talk) 14:12, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

Ninja: ClickerClock (user is now a tech, techs can make themselves ninjas and have all the same rights anyway)[edit]

ClickerClock (talk) 11:30, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

I've just made you tech, techs have all the same rights as ninjas plus loads more so you don't need it. Christopher (talk) 14:12, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

Ninja:RoninMacbeth (approved)[edit]

I'm most likely going to be denied, but screw it.

First, I think that I have proven myself to be a trustworthy editor, which is one of the more important qualifications for being a ninja. Also, because I use talk pages far too often (in addition to "kenning," my bad), it would keep my changes from spamming the RC feed. Finally, ninjas are one of three user groups that can bestow bot rights, and I would like to create a parallel bot that can fulfill any niche functions The Fuzz and The Archivist do not already handle. Since I would refuse any mod nomination offered to me due to limited time, that eliminates one of those three. Since I do not have the technical knowledge to be a tech, that means that my establishment of a bot can only be accomplished through the post of Ninja.

Thank you very much for your time, and I await your response(s). (Most likely rejection. Hey, I'm honest.) RoninMacbeth (talk) 23:56, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

I think you might be good as a ninja, but let's see what other mods/techs think.-DiamondDisc1(talk) 00:14, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
Thank you! I am...legitimately (and pleasantly) surprised you think I'd be a good choice. Thanks. RoninMacbeth (talk) 01:57, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
I seem to recall your username with some fondness. That being said, here's an open question: any history of yours — edit practices or otherwise — we should be aware of first? If not, one of the slave bot drivers like Fuzzy (or Christopher, IIRC?) ought to feel this one first. Thanks in advance. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 14:14, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
Technical note: being a ninja won't help you make a bot. Ninjas can only bot and debot themselves.
@Reverend, I don't run a bot and probably wouldn't have the programming knowledge to do so. Christopher (talk) 15:02, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
Much obliged (that makes two of us, for the record). Next on the list, then...

@FuzzyCatPotato "Heere, boy!" Reverend Black Percy (talk) 15:25, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

For normal humans, ninja only helps them do repetitive edits (like changing a ton of redirects after moving an article). It's only a bad idea if you don't think the ninja-ee can be trusted with the immense power of "not having edits show up in recent changes". Have at it @Reverend Black Percy Mʀ. Wʜɪsᴋᴇʀs, Esϙᴜɪʀᴇ (talk/stalk) 15:36, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

@Reverend Black Percy I was the janteloven guy. I was made sop in November, about a month after I joined the site. The majority of my mainspace edits have been on history and politics, because that's the subject I'm best at. @Christopher Aw, shucks. Well, I can still do redirects and stuff like that. @FuzzyCatPotato I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be trusted with that ability. Here is my list of contributions, in case you wish to review it. Thank you, RoninMacbeth (talk) 16:33, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
It would still be just as easy to make a bot (if you know the right programming languages, I think python is what you really need). Any tech or mod could bot it. Christopher (talk) 16:38, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
@RoninMacbeth You're a ninja.
If you want to make a bot, make a new account (see Special:CreateAccount, no need to log out) and ask a tech to add bot to the account. See Manual:Pywikibot for PWB installation/information. See Archivist (running archivebot.py) and The Fuzz (running add_text.py or replace.py) for the type of edits that bots can do.
If you're not interested in PWB (or don't know Python) but still want bot edits and have basic coding skills (any language), you can use the api. oʇɐʇoԀʇɐϽʎzznℲ (talk/stalk) 16:45, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
Being a social science nerd, I don't know Python. Fortunately, I do know people who know it. Thanks! RoninMacbeth (talk) 23:56, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

Tech:Koidevelopment (denied)[edit]

Whoa I forgot this place was even here until RM edited. I uh want to be tech? I guess?
Qualifications

  1. Barely able to use HTML
  2. Is less able than a five year old to use JavaScript
  3. No knowledge of PHP or any of those fancy sounding languages
  4. Good at grammar
  5. Thinks longboards are cool

Promises

  1. Not to break anything
  2. To make a 'Pirate' class
  3. To (attempt to) make spam filters better
  4. To make 'Godspeed!' a reason for an infinite block

Clearly I'm a solid candidate. *takes a bow*. the real reason is that i just like the idea of more power and won't do anything with it :> Vive Liberté 00:36, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

Wait, how do you change the block reasons? I've always wanted to add a few :)-DiamondDisc1(talk) 02:53, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
Beats me. That's why I don't want to be a tech. RoninMacbeth (talk) 03:21, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
Not sure exactly but I'll find out for you in a sec Koidevelopment (talk) 03:34, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
@DiamondDisc1 MediaWiki:Ipbreason-dropdown. Found it. Decidedly not a sock of User:FareehaA 03:44, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
@Koidevelopment Thanks!-DiamondDisc1(talk) 04:17, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

@Koidevelopment Sorry, Koi. Generally we've only been granting tech to users who demonstrate they know what they're doing beforehand. (And we probably shouldn't even be doing that, but hey, it's a volunteer project.) FuzzyCatPotato of the Vigilant Oganessons (talk/stalk) 16:54, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

@FuzzyCatPotato Haha no worries mate. It was a joke request if you couldn't tell. Koidevelopment (talk) 17:28, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

Sysop:Bigljbigl (approved)[edit]

Because his user rights have been Contested, to say the least, I would like to make a case for Bigljbigl to be re-demoted in his stead. Aside from an apparent distaste for User:CheeseburgerFace and an unquestionable eccentricity, Bigljbigl has demonstrated himself to be, by in large, a good-faith user who can be trusted. He has committed no vandalism as far as I can see. He is not a troll, and the Sysop guide states that "pretty much anyone who isn't an obvious vandal is made a Sysop soon after signing up." As far as I can see, his only "crime" is calling User:CheeseburgerFace an asshole. While I do not condone calling fellow users assholes, I believe that this does not constitute a promotable offense. I talked to him and managed to get him to agree to the rules. I have every expectation that he will fulfill the light responsibilities of sop-hood. Thank you, RoninMacbeth (talk) 23:10, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

Done. (Unless someone strenuously disagrees, sysop is essentially the base state.) Sir ℱ℧ℤℤϒℂᗩℑᑭƠℑᗩℑƠ (talk/stalk) 23:23, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

Ninja: Palaeonictis (approved)[edit]

Hello, I request Ninja rights because I've been editing this wiki for years, have provided substantial content in several areas, and most of my edits nowadays are at the Saloon and minor edits here and there, so in order to not clog up the "Recent Changes" page I request the ability to be made a Ninja. Some posts I've edited include the following:

Neanderthal (I updated the religion section)

List of transitional fossils (I heavily updated the entire article]]

My essay: Observed instances of speciation

I added a "Pseudogenes" section to the Common descent article,

et cetera.--Palaeonictis (talk) 14:49, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

Have fun. Don't break anything. Herr FüzzyCätPötätö (talk/stalk) 21:08, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

Ninja: Bigs (approved)[edit]

I'm almost guaranteed to have this denied, but I don't have anything better to do. If you're a mod, you can read this and deny it, or just deny it and save yourself some time. If you do respond, please ping me.

  1. I have proven to not be a troll, and I don't vandalize.
  2. I have a tendency to do multiple edits while reading an article and mass edit my user page, so this may prevent spam.
  3. Like mods, techs, and sysops, the position is glorified, and it really just means you have to make a ton of changes to stuff.
  4. Have the time for it. Other than school, I have no life whatsoever, so I'm here enough.
  5. Other than the whole preview thing, I tend to stop after told to (I fear being judged).
  6. If anyone in power asks me for more credentials for why I should be ninja, I will gladly provide them.

Tech: Kazitor (approved)[edit]

I've done plenty of PHP/JavaScript/HTML work in my time, and I'm such a boring person that maintenance would not be too beyond me.

It would certainly be mighty convenient to have access to various more-restricted things. I've been around since the end of June (damn, that long?) with no drama. —Kazitor, pending 10:16, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

@Kazitor Approved. —ClickerClock (talk) 10:23, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
