A warning poem[edit]
Now I'm made a sysop here
Myself now I will endear
You should see; I'm a vandal
that you can't handle
I'll produce a scandal
But no, not now
Not before you will allow
me all the rights possible
I'll play all your games along
So you'll think: nothing's wrong
Friends we can be, lifelong
But soon I turn into King Kong
And then you think: "I'm an ass
I'll better kill myself with gas
Everyone should me harass
Even kids in first class"
But you should keep my sysop status, Goonie... I'm actually happy with it. If you desire a love or hate poem, just tell me. --Idiot number 59 (talk) 05:53, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

A curious and eventful meeting[edit]
Sir, I suggest that you could not fight your way out of a pre-soaked paper bag. I challenge thee - through the medium of role play emote fighting.
*Concernedresident removes his wooden leg, hefting up the might weapon and aiming a crushing blow at Goonie's head*
Concernedresident omg!!! ponies!!! 12:01, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- Challenge accepted! Fuck the Residents' Association!!
- Goonie lifts up his beer tankard and smashes it in the face of Concernedresident

- "Burn whitey!!!
- *CR, stumbling because of the savage blow and the foul stench of Goonie, reaches for a nearby bowl of hot sauce to fling at Goonie's face.*Concernedresident omg!!! ponies!!! 14:24, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- "Freedom? There ain't no fucking freedom!"
- *Goonie blocks the incoming hot sauce and breaks off a chair leg, holding it like a club.*
- "Mess with the best, die like the rest!!!"
- Fancy words for someone who just broke their own chair. I deride your lack of seating. I laugh at the swollen feet you'll develop from having to stand all day! Have at thee, chairless freak!
- *Grabs an unsuspecting Armondikov and wields her as a club* Concernedresident omg!!! ponies!!! 21:42, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- "Oh yeah, well I least I don't have to smell the roses!"
- Suddenly, Goon squad member SuperJosh emerges and releases one if his SuperFarts right in the face of Concernedresident.
- "Take that, half-wit!"
- "Jesus, what is he eating?"
- *recoils in horror and vomits on Goonie's cherished first edition of Sense and Sensibility*
- "This ends here!" *sharpens Armondikov before hurling the razor sharp and incredibly irritated Armondikov/spear at Goonie's chest*'
- "You won't win that easily!'
- Goonie removes the Armondikov spear from his chest. He is wounded, but it was just an inch away from being mortal. Gabe picks up Human as his shield and swings his MarcusCicero mace at Concernedresident's head.
- *dons a blindfold in a kind of cool martial arts way, but removes it quickly on realising that it's difficult to dodge a flailing Irishman when blind*
- "Ouch, my noggin! Hey, why's Human wearing a bra?" Concernedresident omg!!! ponies!!! 22:21, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- Goonie, stumped by Concernedresident's question, drops both Human and MarcusCicero. He then scratches his head
- "Hmm, you know what? Beats the hell out of me. I think it was a bet he made with MC.... Something about fascism and RationalWiki or something....."
- "Yeah, nice quality though. Look at the underwiring and the lace. He must be paying a fair bit for those. Sorry about the hole in the t-shirt and your chest. Been a crazy day at work, and you know how it is."

"Anonymous User" (you can't even post in your own real name), do you insist that listing the top ten conservative movies of the decade is totally subjective, but that speculation about the age of the universe is not? I wasted time with your unsubstantial additions and you fail to mention what you find most inspiring about Columbus, such as his independent thinking, so admit it, you're not here to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. Furthermore, you are in denial that capitalizing Hell stops racism. Got news for you: you have free will to deny logic. - I do not have any public speaking so far as I know. As far as when I'm going to England, that's a difficult question. Due to a medical emergency and a stroke of bad luck that followed (namely, I totalled my car and became sorta homeless), I was set back all $4000 I had saved up. Until I can re-save up that money, I cannot afford to go on said trip. The plus side is that I am currently making more money than I ever have, and am about to get the raise associated with my promotion from back in September, so it shouldn't be as hard to save up the money again. And in the meantime, I can save up the vacation time required (about 3-4 weeks worth). Lord of the Goons The official spikey-haired skeptical punk 13:05, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Dana Ullman[edit]
I once spent about 60 hours documenting Ullman's attempts to use Wikipedia to promote homeopathy, and all the craziness he engaged in there. Everything is meticulously documented - it was used int he case that resulted in him being banned from Wikipedia - so I've copied it in. It's a bit pedantic beause of why it was written, and needs more snark, but it covers pretty much anything you'd want to know about Ullman. I've copied it into his article for now. 86.162.109.221 (talk) 01:31, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

- Every time Maddox updates at all (especially if it's The Best Show in the Universe) is worth throwing a party (or maybe an orgy). I loved his most recent one though. Way to mock a retarded Facebook campaign. - VezzyRattlehead (talk) 07:47, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

- Hey, by the way, can you explain to me what the hell is up with those "Idiot number" guys... and why's one of them a sysop? I'm a newb, so I obviously don't know about the wiki drama here (I hate drama, but ultimately it happens in every wiki, and yes, it's a bit fun at times), but it seems it's been increasing here recently. Didn't feel this was worth a new headline. - VezzyRattlehead (talk) 18:36, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

- I'm not a fan of Erin Brockovich. While she has done good things and I don't dislike her as a person, she perpetuates a lot of the bullshit and woo that comes with being a member of the hard green movement. Grant you, little of this has to do with the sinkhole, but every time I hear the name Erin Brockovich, I cringe a little. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:20, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
Touchy feely stuff[edit]
Hey mate, I know you don't know who I am from a bar of soap, but I just wanted to say I consider you one of the most level-headed, reasonable, intelligent and all-round nice guys at this wiki. The failure of RWW has been talked up a little bit around the place; I think you made the right decision in the end, but let's not deny it provided some good belly laughs and it was a neat idea at one stage. It was no reflection on you that it ended up being a bit of a snark-fest and I wouldn't want you to catastrophise it as a lead weight around the neck of RW or anything. What I'm trying to say is: if you take the failure of RWW a little personally then you shouldn't. If you hadn't then I'm sorry for suggesting that you might ;) Tielec01 (talk) 11:41, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I do take the failure personally, but I'm not going to get into that right now. It was useful back in the day; back before people decided that the best way to deal with those they don't like here is to treat them and the things they care about like shit instead of just ignoring them and letting them go their merry way. I'm not singling out one or even a group of editors in that remark. It is the reality of what the RW community seems to be these days. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 11:45, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- I agree with what Tielec said. FWIW if you ever think there might be a core of people who want to take RW in a more positive direction, let me know. I'm very attached to the place, despite how toxic it is. VOXHUMANA 11:49, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- To be honest, the only reason I've been here for as long as I have is not at all because I like the people here. On the contrary, the community pisses me off to no end. But, I'm 100% committed to the mission, and really truly that seems to be the only reason I stick around. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 06:49, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- That's my attitude entirely as well. Oh well, I suppose if enough of us gather together, then WE will be the community, and then the complaints will become moot. VOXHUMANA 07:05, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- I also still stick to the creed of an old crew I used to hang around with, "If any scene sucks, it's because you suck for not making it better." I guess that also adds to my reasons for not abandoning RW completely. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 07:11, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

Piling on the touchy-feely stuff, I hadn't hit your userpage since you made that February edit that you undid just a little back. Regarding the substance abuse stuff, hang in there, man, and take as much time as you need away from RW if that's what you need. We might be a collective of snarky jerks, but we're all still human, and I at least hope I'm not the only one still capable of expressing compassion and sympathy.
I've never personally struggled with substance abuse problems, but my grandfather was a severe alcoholic, such that I didn't get to visit much (travel was also expensive, but I suspect my parents weren't too inclined to bring lil' me out there). You've got our support (anyone who doesn't want to support RNS, take it to my talk page so I can bitch you out properly). As with any habit/problem in life, take it one day at a time. I apologize if this is perhaps too forward, but there's times when you just need to cut through the bullshit and speak straight. Ochotonaprincepsnot a pokémon 08:15, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. Back story to that: I've been completely and utterly stressed out and bothered by some family shit and work shit for a while, and was slowly slipping into a world of alcoholism and pain med abuse for, at least, 6 months. To be honest, my very public fight with Nutty Roux back in January(?) where I lost my shit an embarrassed the fuck out of myself was one of a list of things that brought that to a head for me. There were other things, too. All of which caused one of my closest friends to approach and ask "Are you OK? Are you whacked out or have you just become a fuckwad?" Well, that's when I kinda had an emotional breakdown and told him about the shit that was on my mind, and promised to seek help. I've been stone-cold sober for a little over a month now, and talked to my doctor about my abuse of the pain meds I was on (mostly hydrocodone for chronic back issues) and we worked it out. I'm also trying to work on moving here soon (albeit not too far, but just far enough) so I can be further away from what's causing my angst at the moment. Personally, I don't like Thunderf00t - I find him irascible and overly preachy. However, when I came to this site to read up on the controversy over Freethoughtblogs, I was instantly turned off by the extreme degree of opinionation plaguing the article, which I attempted to minimize. The things in that article (which are all pointed out in talk page under "poor quality" made me immediately view the entirety of RationalWiki as unreliable. If you were to attempt to be more objective (regardless of your personal opinions), you might not come off in such a pathetic manner. Regardless, I don't plan on spending much time referencing this site, and will do what I can to spread the word among my atheist social group about the poor quality of this site.
- You say that, and I'm inclined to try an go back and make things right. However, then when I see that you posted this on somebody's userspace talkpage, and I'm less inclined to care what you think. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 06:59, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

I hereby pledge to litter and polute as much as possible for the next month as a result of Mother Nature's perpetual winter here in Minnesota. I know, it's Minnesota and I should expect snow. - If not, I would cordially ask you to refrain from repeatedly blocking me for long periods of time. It is annoying. Please, don't check anything higher than a few seconds. Further scrutiny of my editing patterns before a block would equally be appreciated. If you noticed that I am making a number of edits in short intervals, it may be a good idea to not block me for any period of time exceeding zero. Especially if I am in a liquid threads conversation, as my browser does not store data entered into the LQT text field. This can make LQT discussions unbelievably frustrating. I am sure that given your new understanding of my petty grievances, you are amenable to heeding my gently request. kindly,--"Shut up, Brx." 05:17, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

- The patent lawyer that my company hired informed us that, because of the shutdown, our filing for a patent would likely be delayed in federal courts for an undetermined amount of time (i.e: they haven't given us an exact court date yet in case they run out of money), since we filed our application two days AFTER the shutdown took effect. Therefore, since everything is done but the legal aspects of the filing, the sense of urgency filing the patent was placed on by my company has been relaxed severely. I disagree. I've worked with Tisane on meta.wikimedia.org, and he's alright. I enjoy hearing his thoughts and watching his antics. Tisane is intelligent and has contemplated the deficit of freedom in the world and possible solutions deeply. - I had no problem at all with Tisane.... Until he showed up a few years ago and wrote an essay here that was advocating having sex with kids. I don't care how libertarian you are, there are some lines that should not be crossed, and that is one of them. You'd think after a year of being banned here, there'd be enough time for him to stop being a creepy motherfucker. But, no. If you look at any of his websites, not only was arrested last year for being affiliated with pedophiles (and thus a period of absence from the internet which we were wondering about) but, 80% of his main websites (Nathania, especially) are him writing in defense of child rapists. I am sorry, but to allow him back here would be a doing a complete disservice to RationalWiki, and I will fight to keep him out of here. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 08:35, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

Holocaust[edit]
Apparently added_lines looks at the entire diff, not just the proposed addition and blocked a good faith editor. What is your experience with false positives so far? 17:16, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- Dammit. The anti-Holocaust filter has been pretty good about not having false positives so far. However, if you think that's going to be a problem, we can turn the filter off and activate it only as needed. We've seen a downtick in the Holocaust trolling cycle as of late anyways. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 19:58, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

- There is nothing inherently wrong with the tool, just the fact that people are using a sledgehammer instead of a pliers. My problem isn't with the navigation template itself, but RationalWiki's execution of it as a system has been piss poor at best. We have no standards for what we want sidebar navigation templates for and, thus, we have sidebar navigation templates for things that aren't inherently important to RationalWiki's mission. A quick check of what we have them for shows things like Rome and the Norse. What about these topics in relation to RationalWiki's mission qualifies them for their very own side templates? How is navigating people to articles about podcasts just as important as navigating people to our bread and butter articles about pseudoscience? Furthermore, there is no standard for when to add one to an article. Time after time after time, when I click the "Random page" button, I come across a crappy stub article that is a couple of sentences to a paragraph long. However, on the right side of that article is this giant fucking template for whatever subject that is 3 times longer than the stub article in question. To me, this is just some moron saying "I wanted to look helpful, but not helpful enough to expand the article." Which leads me to my last point, and that is that these templates also have no rhyme or reason for the articles they point to in the categories they cover. As a result, they pop up with articles on pseudoscience that are crappy, but somebody will click on them and read that article. Meanwhile, our star articles on things like the anti-vaxxxers are not overtly promoted by those templates, even though those are the crème de la crème of our Wiki. These are my problems with those fucking templates, and until or unless they are addressed, I oppose their usage. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:20, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

I understand your reasoning for giving him a two years block... But the thing is that IPs are pretty elastic. If he has a dynamic IP than he can change it by tomorrow, and than some other schmoe's IP would be blocked for two years. Isn't that a problem? - Bill Rawls (talk) 19:12, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- I did my research. It's not a dynamic IP, and it's also not a proxy. Two years for a death threat is what the last guy to issue one got. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:15, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Oh I see, if it's static than two years is definitely appropriate. - Bill Rawls (talk) 14:52, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, but you made a good point. I was a little heavy handed. I reduced that block to 6 months. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 18:41, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

A favour?[edit]
Hey, Goonie, can you keep an eye out on contributions/unblockings re: this guy and his talk page? He wrote a vile anti-everything-but-straight-white-Chriatians screed and has been making homophobic threats on his talk page. I know you understand "free speech" doesn't mean "hate speech allowed." Thanks... Father Vivian O'Blivion (talk) 04:08, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- Will do, buddy. Scum like that ain't gonna fly on the Wiki while I'm still around. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 18:17, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

What do you think? Acei9 08:15, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- I pretty much concur with your assertions. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 08:19, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
What if the piano has been drinking?[edit]
Sorry, I like my punks straight-edge.

- Ick. Sorry buddy, but that's not at all my cup of tea for music. I hate that melodic, slow, orchestral metal shit. Sorry. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:34, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- It's not really orchestral, but I understand. It's not everybody's cup of tea. DØØM MĖSSIÅH Deserved doom shall be unto you 09:48, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- Dude, I'm a punk and former oogle. Anything over 3 minutes and it better be worth it. Anything over 5, and it better be Dead Kennedys. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 10:03, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- You see, as a prog fan, I have no clue what you're on about. MESSIAH OF DOOM Hehehehehe WHEEEEE! 21:55, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- An example of each: punk and oogle (aka: gutter punk). Hope this helps. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 11:54, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
- I know what punk and shit means, I just don't understand how somebody can not tolerate songs of completely reasonable length. DØØM MĖSSIÅH Keeping myself alive, through your EMPATHY. 11:35, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- 22 minutes isn't completely reasonable. WèàšèìòìďMethinks it is a Weasel 13:05, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- 22 minutes was reasonable for 1970's pop rock, but as they found then (and as I maintain now), it serves NO purpose in modern music other than to confuse the listener with boredom. Classical music and opera get an exemption here, because opera is a musical play, in essence, and much of classical music such as Mozart is as much an interpretive art of the mind as it is music (i.e: you mind draws the pictures and lyrics for you). Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:19, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
- Holy fucking shit, you did NOT just fucking confuse prog with pop rock. Besides, I think that a music should do what it wants. If it sounds good, then coolio. The length doesn't really matter at all, in my opinion. If it works, then fucking great, if it doesn't, well then, shit. It's the same with shredding and technicality. Besides, when I listen to music, I don't really go "okay, I'm listening to this song, it's gonna go for X minutes and its going to do this, or I don't fucking like it", I'm all like "holy fucking shit, these sounds are moving my dick". Especially when it comes to this type of music, I listen to the songs as different textures of the same changing atmosphere, not shit that has to do shit or it will be shit. - Confuse? No. I compared it to what was tried back in the 1970's with hour long guitar solos, repetitive lyrical verses over and over again, and musicians waving their dicks for an hour just to make money for every minute of a song they recorded. In so far as what I said before about song length, that was hyperbole, not some rule I actually follow. But, there again, I like my songs straight and to the point. It's just a matter of personal taste, really. As a songwriter, I've not yet had a poem that takes 20 minutes to recite that I can't get down into 5 minutes of music and lyrics that are still as powerful, albeit more economical to the listener's time. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:07, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
- Well, as a songwriter myself, I personally find that there is really no rush. If there's a good idea or theme in the song, IMO, it's cool to explore it as much as possible, see all the different ways it can build. However, I know what you mean about being concise and to the point, and, as you say, it's just a matter of personal taste. However, I will point out that I don't see how one long song is really excessively different from a few little songs, kn'a'm saying?
