The Human Diversity Foundation (HDF) is a far-right company founded by Danish white supremacist and child porn activist Emil Kirkegaard to promote pseudoscientific racialism and eugenics.[1][2][3] The company was founded in Wyoming by Sanjay Nediyara, a California-based entrepreneur[4] in 2022 as a Limited Liability Company (LLC), and became publicly associated with Kirkegaard under his new name (as of November 2022), William Engman,[2] the following year.[5] Key persons of the HDF including the neo-Nazi Matthew Frost (a.k.a. Matthew Archer) and Erik Ahrens support white nationalism, while Kirkegaard has a long history of far-right activism. The HDF is a rebrand of the racist Pioneer Fund and currently publishes OpenPsych, Aporia Magazine, Mankind Quarterly and The Jolly Heretic.[2] Since 2023, HDF has also claimed to be a non-profit on its website, theoretically possible for an LLC, but has not revealed what type (501(c)(3) is required), and has also stated that they are not seeking funding.[6][7] Members of HDF have been involved in unethical practices and deceptive tactics to promote their racialist agenda.[note 1]
Both Aporia and Edward Dutton's Substack are managed by HDF. Their combined estimated annual revenue in 2024 was $188,000.[12]
History[edit]
The Human Diversity Foundation was founded by Emil Kirkegaard in 2022 and registered as a limited liability company in Wyoming.[2][13] It is a rebrand of the almost-defunct Pioneer Fund, whose monetary assets were given to Kirkegaard. According to an undercover investigation by Hope not Hate in October 2024:
Although the Pioneer Fund’s resources have diminished in recent years, it still has assets of $277,873, according to its most recent filings. Matthew Frost explained to our reporter that HDF has “appropriated” the remaining funds. “It was left to Emil and now that becomes part of our organisation,” he said. “It’s good. It’ll pay a few wages for a couple of years.” Pioneer’s latest accounts have yet to reflect this change. Their most recent filings were submitted in May 2024 for the previous tax year. The only recipient of funds for 2023 was Edward Dutton, a British scientific racism YouTuber, who we can also reveal is on HDF’s payroll. Strangely, the charity still lists Richard Lynn as the president despite his death 10 months prior.[2]
The company's name was likely inspired by Bryan Pesta's Human Phenome Diversity Foundation which has received funding from the Pioneer Fund. In 2019, Pesta and John Fuerst founded the Human Phenome Diversity Foundation and registered it as a non-profit organisation in Ohio, describing its goal to "support scientific research on human phenotypic and biological diversity".[14][note 2]
Branches[edit]

The HDF has two main branches including a "research" and "media" wing. The latter includes the publication of the Aporia Magazine while the former Mankind Quarterly and OpenPsych although it appears the Mankind Quarterly is indirectly published by the HDF through a separate company Kirkegaard owns named Mankind House Publishing.[2]
Members[edit]
Key people[edit]
- Emil Kirkegaard: founder of HDF and white supremacist. He is a self-described eugenicist.[15]
- Erik Ahrens: a German far-right extremist who is active in the Alternative for Germany party. Ahrens is also a fundamentalist Christian and founder of GegenUni.[3]
- Edward Dutton: a white nationalist who runs The Jolly Heretic podcast. He is on the HDF's payroll of approximately $40,000 a year.[2]
- Matthew Frost (a.k.a. Matthew Archer), a neo-Nazi and founder of Aporia Magazine who sold it to Kirkegaard and which is now owned by the HDF.[2] Frost attended the far-right Guide to Kulchur in 2023. He is a former religious studies teacher at Kensington Park School.[2]
Research wing[edit]
Emil Kirkegaard leads an "underground research wing" of HDF which is a continuation of the Pioneer Fund's racialist research. This consists of a small group of eugenicist and hereditarian pseudoscientists who convene weekly for a video call to coordinate their ideas. Only 6 (including Kirkegaard) of them are publicly known[note 3]
- Bryan Pesta[2]
- Meng Hu[2]
- Davide Piffer[2]
- Simon Wright, pseudonym of a HBD researcher who claims to have access to UK Biobank data which he downloaded.[8][16]
All of the above have published in OpenPsych or Mankind Quarterly.
The others, based on people who have written for the two journals, might be:
- George Francis[17]
- John Fuerst[18]
- Sebastian Jensen, pseudonym of a porn writer and self-confessed "white nationalist/soft Nazi" who writes for OpenPsych journal.[19][20][21] In an article "Top 20 race scientists", Jensen claims "the autism meme is true, insomuch as close to half of the people on this list have clinical levels of autism".[22] He has also made a video "How Race Science Could Permeate the Mainstream".[23]
- Jordan Lasker[18]
- J. Rayner-Hilles (a.k.a. John R. Hilles)[24]
The agenda of this research wing is to get their eugenics and pseudoscientific race and intelligence research published in mainstream science journals.[2] As Hope not Hate have noted:
The team aims to slip papers into academic journals with higher impact and circulation than their own publications. If unable to do so, HDF will publish the group’s papers in their print journal Mankind Quarterly or the OpenPsych website, which has been described as “a pseudoscience factory-farm”. Kirkegaard is associated with the management of both titles. During a research team meeting in November 2023, Kirkegaard told his researchers that an article on “international dysgenics” was unlikely to get accepted by a proper academic imprint unless their colleague Bryan Pesta, a former scholar at Cleveland State University, could “make the words soft and sweet”. HDF leaders discussed a “pipeline” whereby the underground research team would publish scientific racism articles that would then be promoted by HDF’s public operations like Aporia or Edward Dutton’s YouTube channel, “The Jolly Heretic”.[2]
So far at least one study authored by Russell T. Warne was funded by HDF and published in a mainstream journal.[25]
Media team[edit]
- Noah Carl
- Bo Winegard, executive editor of Aporia.[26] Kirkegaard has stated that "Winegard is not part of the research team; he is part of the media team".[27]
Funders[edit]
- Andrew Conru, founder of Adult Friend Finder, donated $1.3 million to HDF through his Conru Foundation. He has also funded Bryan Pesta.[2] A few days after Conru's funding of HDF was made public, he vowed not to fund HDF, or other racist and extremist organizations that he had previously funded, including Jared Taylor (American Renaissance), The Unz Review, and Turning Point USA.[28] His apology did not answer the question of whether Conru was sympathetic to those beliefs or whether he is just easily conned.
Views[edit]
White nationalism[edit]
Most of the HFD members support white nationalism. Erik Ahrens openly supports a white ethnostate and described his plan to create a homeland for "white, Christian people".[2]
Remigration[edit]
HDF's key persons most notably Matthew Frost support remigration. Kirkegaard has written that he favours paying immigrants to leave Denmark:
I generally support policies that pay them to leave. Recent immigrants who came as refugees should be sent home after their home troubles are over e.g. Syrian civil war/ISIL.[29]
Child pornography and incest[edit]
Emil Kirkegaard (who legally changed his name to William Engman) is an infamous activist for legalizing child pornography and incest.[1] Other members of the HDF are either unaware about his distasteful views on pedophilia and incest or they choose to ignore them. Kirkegaard wrongly argued that incest "does no harm nowadays and should therefore not be illegal",[30] that homosexuality is a mental illness and has stated that it is a "good idea to legalize child porn"[note 4] because he thinks viewing child porn reduces rape rates.[32][33]Do You Believe That?
There is another potential reason why it is a good idea to legalize child porn. Some studies show that the availability of porn has reduced rape rates. Since child porn is a subset of porn, one could expect the same thing to happen with it. The causal theory is that when people have access to porn, they jack off to that instead and thus are less horny, and so less likely to rape. This reasoning applies just as well to child porn… The child porn that is already made can be used by pedophiles without further harm to the children in the film. If that helps reduce rape of children, that’s just good. If child porn really helps reduce rape of children, then animated child porn may also do so. And since that doesn’t require children actually be raped to be made, all the better.[32]
Kirkegaard further wrote a blog post on his website titled "the ban on child porn possession", which disturbingly suggested: "Perhaps a compromise is having sex with a sleeping child without them knowing it (so, using sleeping medicine). If they dont notice it is difficult to see how they cud be harmed, even if it is rape."[34][35] In another blog post, Kirkegaard defended the legalization of animated child porn.[36]
Publications[edit]
Aporia Magazine[edit]
HDF (which is owned by Kirkegaard) publishes the Aporia Magazine (which Kirkegaard bought from Matthew Frost). Aporia is a far-right online magazine and podcast that openly promotes "white identity politics" and publishes articles on HBD and conspiracy theories such as the Great Replacement. It has also featured articles written by prominent eugenicists. Jared Taylor a white supremacist and founder of American Renaissance has featured on their podcast discussing "white culture".[37]
Mankind Quarterly[edit]
HDF indirectly publishes the racist pseudojournal Mankind Quarterly. Kirkegaard was the public domain registrant for the Mankind Quarterly website between 2017 and February 2023, after which the records were anonymised.[38][15] In February 2024, Kirkegaard created Mankind Publishing House LLC in the state of Wyoming.[1] The company was likely set up to directly publish the Mankind Quarterly. This was finally confirmed in January 2025 when Kirkegaard updated the website claiming the journal is published by Mankind Publishing House.[39]
The Jolly Heretic[edit]
HDF publishes Edward Dutton's The Jolly Heretic podcast which is active on Substack and YouTube. As of November 2023, Dutton’s Substack had an annual revenue of $62,400 all of which is funnelled into HDF.[2] Dutton is on record for claiming black people "don’t do very well academically and don’t behave very well either".[2]
Unethical activities[edit]
UK Biobank data[edit]
Simon Wright from HDF has claimed to have downloaded UK Biobank data.[8] Hidden camera footage also revealed Matthew Frost claiming that "they’ve managed to get access to the UK Biobank,” and to know more "talk to Emil".[8] The UK Biobank has denied that any HDF members have have ever been approved for access. In October 2024, UK Biobank stated:
Kirkegaard and his team at the Human Diversity Foundation have been blocked by UK Biobank from accessing its data on the grounds they are not bona fide researchers. We have previous evidence of Kirkegaard claiming he has access to UK Biobank data while continuing to make attempts to obtain it. Statements made by this group – whether public or private – cannot be relied upon as fact.[40]
Wikipedia harassment[edit]
Members of HDF have been involved in harassing alleged left-wing Wikipedia editors whom they claim are controlling articles on race and intelligence. HDF have created numerous sockpuppet accounts that have been blocked, so they have resorted to using IP addresses. Emil Kirkegaard is indefinitely blocked on Wikipedia.[9][10] Their favourite target articles are Dysgenics, Flynn effect,
Intelligence quotient
and Race (human categorization);
disputed content issues can be found on the respective talk pages.
Institution affiliation[edit]
In journals such as his own OpenPsych and others, Emil Kirkegaard does not list the Human Diversity Foundation because of its links to white nationalism. Kirkegaard has claimed to be affiliated with several other organizations.
The Ulster Institute for Social Research and its secretary Huw Gruffydd in February 2024 wrote a letter stating that Emil Kirkegaard was falsely claiming to be affiliated to the Ulster Institute and therefore accused him of lying.[11] In their own words, "he is not, as he claims, affiliated to the Ulster Institute." Despite this, Kirkegaard as of March 2024 was describing himself as a "research fellow" at the Ulster Institute on his social media profiles (including Facebook), OpenPsych forum, and on his Google Scholar page.[41][42][43] As of November 2024, Kirkegaard previously claime to be a research fellow at the Ulster Institute on his ResearchGate page.[44]
Kirkegaard has also listed his affiliation at OpenPsych as the "Arthur Jensen Institute".[45] There is no evidence that this institute exists.[note 5]
Notes[edit]
- ↑ This includes claims of accessing UK Biobank data,[8] harassing Wikipedia editors[9][10] and lying about which institutions they are affiliated with in journals.[11]
- ↑ The Human Phenome Diversity Foundation appears to be defunct and Pesta would later join the HDF.
- ↑ The 6 revealed members of the underground research wing appeared on Hope Not Hate's undercover investigation during a video meeting on 6th November 2023. Bo Winegard was active during the meeting but according to Kirkegaard is part of their "media team":
- ↑ It is in fact a bad idea to willfully view child porn if for no other reason than it is illegal in many jurisdictions.[31]
- ↑ Jensen's sole known institute was called "Institute for the Study of Educational Differences", which consisted of himself and his wife as a conduit for Pioneer Fund money outside the scrutiny of his employer, the University of California Berkeley.[46]:363
