China and "Shina"[edit]
Hi, I'm just referring to the recent edit by User:10101 on the China article. There are many names for ancient China and is not limited to Zhina [1]. The term as described is largely used by the Japanese, and is largely not used today due to bad blood between the two after WWII. Judging by the user's edit history and edit war on the Reddit article, I suspect he is engaging in POV pushing.--Alpharius (talk) 05:01, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- I feel the need to step in and defend myself here. I linked to an article where Zhina is used in a largely historical context but you obviously saw fit to delete it. "Zhina" is a phonetic transcription; in fact it's the anti-racist term for the country we call China and was even suggested by Sun Yat-Sen as a modern name. Zhong-guo is the racist, ethnocentric term; Zhina is the politically neutral term. I think you're the one pushing the POV here 10101 (talk) 16:49, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Clearing up a tiny misconception[edit]
Hi CBF! Happy new year I just wanted to say that I've read what you've been writing in the moderator elections, regarding Fuzzy endorsing/anti-endorsing multiple candidates... I just wanted to point out that there's actually nothing wrong with him doing so; it's even been common practice at RW for years now (see previous elections), and the hope from staff running the election is that everyone would do as Fuzzy does and give out atleast one endorsement or anti/endorsement to each candidate. This is because the only function of endorsements and anti-endorsements is to help other voters know how to prioritize their votes. Every running candidate will appear in the election regardless (so endorsements and anti-endorsements cannot hurt their chances of ending up on the ballot); the question for the voter then becomes "In which order of preference do I rate them?". That's when the existence of as many endorsements and anti-endorsements as possible per candidate becomes truly helpful. Just as an FYI and all that. So whatever you do, don't fault Fuzzy on that. Instead, join in on the tradition — as I'm about to do too — and give each respective candidate consideration on his/her own; do you want to endorse or anti-endorse that particular candidate? And then move on to the next, and so on. All the best, Reverend Black Percy (talk) 14:11, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
- FWIW: The reason I obsessively endorse/anti-endorse is to pressure others to endorse/anti-endorse. It's a sane tradition that helps weed out the crazies, though it probably favors popular and uncontroversial users rather than the absolutely best moderators. Herr FuzzyKatzenPotato (talk/stalk) 14:40, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
- I'm always a sucker for a well-constructed, rational argument that proves me wrong. Edit[edit]
Sorry about the confusion, some of the writing was long-winded so I shortened the wording to make it more concise and readable, but I didn't actually remove any of the claims backed by sources, so all of the same information was still there; a few sources didn't match the claims in the article so I did correct these, but my intent wasn't page-blanking with fake edit summaries, if that's what you thought, sorry.--BrittanyPBone (talk) 23:43, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

- The template is an example of cross-site request forgery (OWASP has a better article). The template is a more innocent (and legal) form of the ones you find in the wild. RW should fix the exploit, but the server has enough problems as it is.—127.0.0.1 (talk • stalk) 20:42, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
- Just because it's there for a year and RationalWiki doesn't disallow it, and other people have used it, and it's a harmless prank (and I don't think it's an exploit lol, it's just toying around with wikicode), some might find it annoying and even unwelcome. Anyhow, just warning you in advance. --It's-a me, LeftyGreenMario! 21:12, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
- Not an exploit? While the template exploit is innocent, there's definitely more malicious actions that can be done with the method. For example, I could have made the URL make the clicker ban a member on the wiki. The ability for a clicked URL to make any logged-in user perform an undesired action is an exploit. A more extreme example is linking to a Netflix URL that makes Netflix users buy a movie they don't want.—127.0.0.1 (talk • stalk) 21:25, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
- Maybe it is in the strictest technical sense, but I think "exploit" just isn't the right word to use (it implies vulnerability, which it isn't exactly, IMO), as how changing your username to my username via displayname isn't really an exploit. It's simply piping a link to a Special page (SPECIAL:USERLOGOUT), a page that's an action. The others are more malicious, but it's still a prank. That's all there is to it. --It's-a me, LeftyGreenMario! 21:34, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
- When people think of security, many people think of finding zero-days and bugs to exploits. In reality, the most common breaches of security is Social engineering, exploiting human trust and manipulating people. According to the other wiki, a vulnerability is exploiting a bug or flaw. The ability to have a non-session specific URL/redirect perform an action for all users is a design flaw and downright bad design.—127.0.0.1 (talk • stalk) 21:58, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

By now, it's become apparent to me that the guy/girl who wants to delete the Zeitgeist Movement page is a troll, uninterested in actually deleting the page. Don't patrol edits unless you are completely certain they are conducive to the tone and goals of Rationalwiki. The edit you patrolled there reeks of whitewashing. (That probably wasn't the intent of that particular edit, actually, but it had no excuse given for removing that much text.) If you're not one hundred percent certain, just don't click Patrol; someone else can do it if they have more knowledge of the subject, and in any case taking just a little longer to stop having to deal with CAPTCHA is not the end of the world for a new user. - Done. If you don't want this to happen again, I think a moderator is the only one who can hide blocks. So if you don't want this to happen again, ask a moderator to block the BoN's account, make it not apply to logged in users, and have the block message invisible. Also, RationalWiki — as an autoconfirmed user — is proxy friendly.—127.0.0.1 (talk • stalk) 15:44, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

In a nutshell[edit]
It's a common practice -- see https://rationalwiki.org/w/index.php?search=In+a+nutshell&title=Special:Search . I know that at least RBP and I do it. If you think it's bad or lazy, I suggest trying to get a community consensus/policy/whatever about it. (I think the videos are useful and a useful way of introducing readers to new, useful YouTubers.) αδελφός ΓυζζγςατΡοτατο (talk/stalk) 01:59, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

- Serious answer: I like RationalWiki, but think it has some issues. I will poke the mob at an attempt at some change, but I’m not going to make myself a martyr. I think articles about people sometimes go into the libel area and the wiki has quality control issues.—127.0.0.1 (talk • stalk) 04:41, 24 September 2017 (UTC)

Legal highs page[edit]
I can see how what you deleted can be construed as non-missional on the purported legal highs page, but it might have been better to open a discussion on deleting it first since it was such a large amount of text, some of which went back quite a ways in time. Peak trans[edit]
If I'm not mistaken, "peak trans" is a term used by TERFs to mean "the time when the trans just went TOO far and I stopped tolerating them" rather than the point at which a trans person felt most gender-affirmed. (ƨɛɪᴙᴛᴎoɔ) (ʞɹᴀᴛ) ɒnippiɿqƧ @ 23:40, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

NEVER, EVER, EVERon my side. Preferring to block me indefinitely or punish me in another way for a MINOR problem WITHOUT EVER GIVING ME A WARNING, or EXPLAINING... Call me crazy, but after observing him for the past year, I don't think he's actually a troll in the same sense that MarcusCicero and ElvisIsKing are, or at least he's no more of one than nobs.
