Cdesign Proponentsists[edit]

If the proposed merge with Kitzmiller v. Dover on CP goes through, anyone care to lay odds on how long it'll be before any mention of "Cdesign Proponentsists" is removed from the merged article for being extraneous or off-topic?

I was thinking of searching for "cdesign" to see if it declines or gets mentioned (if they have an article on "cdesign proponentsists", I would love to see them wiggle out of it...), but it seems to be going iffy... again. EDIT, oooh, they do have one, and it's fairly straight forward, apart from the weasel words, there's no wiggling or squirming. That's terrible... Armondikov 17:19, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
Aw, what a pity if it goes away. It was good enough that I pretty much copied it verbatim to our article. Probably removed some cp links, though. ħumanUser talk:Human 17:28, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
Check the article history. Jinxy apparently has been "improving" that article over the months... --Sid 17:30, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
Yeah...... they don't seem to be able to decide where and how to mention that the verdit neglected to use the term "cdesign proponetsists". My favourite diff is interesting, so was it an actual book or actual draft versions? I'm pretty sure they were previous versions that were published but its a good use of some weaselling, you have to be impressed with it. Ooh, and now it is merged with the Dover Trial. Surely this is the first step to them erradicating it, worth watching to see if it gets smaller and eventually goes poof. Armondikov 06:24, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
...aaaand there it is. Elapsed time between "merging the articles" and deciding that the newly-merged information "had nothing to do with the article": about 24 hours. Andy never disappoints. --Phentari 21:52, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Mandatory Betting Pool[edit]

  • It will be ignored as long as possible. Once it's brought up, Andy will argue that he's not really conservative and that "oddly enough, none of the Liberals here complain about [Democrat who also did something bad]! Another example of Liberal Bias!" --Sid 18:51, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
  • Oh, wait. Only indicted (translation fail on my side, I confused it with convicted for a moment). Then yes, libel! False accusations! Shame! Shame! --Sid 18:53, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
  • They will use the partially unwritten rules (it usually appears in the edit summary when they are removing it) that politicians are exempt, except Democrats. \approx\pi 21:50, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
  • Sid's bet - "ignore 'til you can't, then claim he's no true Scotsman" - is the right answer, I'll bet.-caius (tinker) 23:31, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
Ditto - this will go the way of Larry Craig and Vito Fossella. --SpinyNorman 10:49, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

I think Sid wins.

Schlafly and McCain[edit]

Has anybody else noticed that Andy is starting to sound a little like McCain? Ask McCain about the war in Afghanistan and he'll tell you that he supported the surge in Iraq and Obama didn't and he was right. Ask Schlafly about anything, and he'll tell you its a great liberal conspiracy [1]Chris111 23:26, 29 July 2008 (EDT)

More importantly: Schlafly and Eagle Forum[edit]

Isn't it odd that Schlafly IS reacting poorly to mentions of eagle forum? Trouble in paradise?-caius (tinker) 23:33, 29 July 2008 (EDT)

Doesn't want to be seen as a Mommy's boy. SusanG  ContribsTalk 23:35, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
Its fair to ask as the Eagle Forum has a link to the conservapedia youtube propoganda video and Shlaf-asses courses are there to. I dont why he is so uppity...oh yeah, he is a wank, thats why. Ace McWickedInteresting 00:29, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
"The conspiracy theories by liberals about conservatives are tiresome, and the liberal denials when confronted with the baseless errors are even worse. Wikipedia is filled with such junk, claiming that anyone the liberals disagree with is a creationist, a John Birch Society member, or some cultist. When the errors are removed, they reappear again and again, without apology by the people who make the errors."
Wow, talk about your non sequitur!!! That was a fucking classic piece of Andycandyland... what the hell was he "thinking" - or drinking? Was he reacting to tonight's Daily Show? No prob. Link on the adultress thing? And search RW, wasn't that a while ago? We may already have a CP:space article on it? (If not we should?) ħumanUser talk:Human 00:40, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

(undent)

I think Susan has it right. Andy doesn't have a problem with sites, including the Eagle Forum, linking to them and supporting CP indirectly. What really sets him off, though, is the impressiona that this site or his teaching job are directly supported by the Eagle Forum. Andy's life seems to parallel Dubya's in some important ways, most significantly in that he can't point to any real achievement of his own that's not influenced by his mother's accomplishments, standing and family wealth.

He could have been a self-made success based on his engineering skills before turning to the law, but apparently he didn't. If he tried marketing his courses based solely on their content and not his family name & connections, and avoided taking any reference or referral from the Eagle Forum or his mother's circle of influence, how successful would he have been? He'll never know because he never tried. While he lives in comfort in an affluent section of NJ, and enjoys the self-impression of being a person of influence in conservative circles, I'm certain that he knows deep down that this came from outside patronage and not from within, and it drives the anger in his responses like this.

There's nothing wrong with wanting the best for your children and working to give them a good start in life. One of my earliest disappointments with conservatism, though, was the hypocrisy of focusing on capitalism, opportunity and merit-based competitiveness, while at the same time fighting to preserve inherited wealth and build influence through nepotism. Apparently Dubya carried a lot of latent resentment towards his father based on redirected self-disappointment & anger, and I think Andy unloads similar feelings towards posters on CP when the right buttons are pushed. --SpinyNorman 11:16, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

The transformation of John McCain[edit]

I've banged on about this before, but seeing John McCain elevated to article of the week reminded me of the original version and subsequent initial edits, written by one Andrew L Schlafly in January and February last year.--Matt 08:45, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Curious quote "On gambling, the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law allows Indian nations (which get nearly all their money from unregulated casinos) to make unlimited political donations, even though political donations by American citizens are strictly limited and political spending by corporations is prohibited." Does this mean Andy thinks Indians aren't american citizens? --Waiting for Godot 11:31, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Need A Cite?[edit]

Schlafly asks for a cite for remarks about how this policy allowed other religious websites and that it would be overturned. It's too bad I was blocked before having a chance to respond by telling him to READ THE FRIGGIN ARTICLE! It's like the third paragraph in that says exactly what I had said! I gotta believe he doesn't even read the articles that are "suggested" before posting them. --Jdellaro 10:36, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Hi, Fox! Oh, and thank god CP differs from WP--"We do not ban users based on their comments elsewhere", otherwise I might have been blocked for 5 years for comments here. Whooo! --Jdellaro 10:58, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Get bent. I am a declared id on both sites. I get blocked here too, you know. You got blocked for being (imho) a total twat. The argument about npower was held here yesterday - see above. As for random socks pretending to be Jewish in order to score points, I find that very fucking offensive. Further random twats defending their right to be offensive and stating that my arguments are "ridiculous" just to be provocative? Yeah, right. Fox 11:06, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
UMMM. FOX! You do realize it isn't a crime to be on RationalWiki. Last I checked, Jared is openly liberal, therefore NOT A SOCK. If you stand by that block, then you should be blocked for also having an account here. --US-O11 insignia.svg Gen. S.T. Shrink COURTNEY!!! 11:12, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
So block me. If any CP sysops are reading, they may review my edits and decide whether to block me there, too. Jjello should perhaps think that being blocked is as much a result of outing themself here - effectively demanding a longer block than than they initially received - and modify their future behaviour in view of this. Let's call it "common sense deficiency syndrome" Fox 11:21, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
That is such an utterly ridiculous statement. Blocking him is against CP policy. He's not a sock. He is an open liberal. CP policy has no creedance when used upon anyone except a conservative. You should know this by now. But I didn't expect it of you. --US-O11 insignia.svg Gen. S.T. Shrink COURTNEY!!! 11:25, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Fox is alright - he's not Jinx or Heart of Gold; you can reason with him. We all say silly things every now and then....PFoster 11:40, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Well, Fox, if you still think that having children help their parents to be green is the same as Nazi Youths sending their parents to be cremated, then I will have to stand by my view that it's the most ridiculous thing I've seen on CP this whole week...irregardless whether you consider me a "twat" or not. Perhaps I just view that comparison differently because I'm Catholic and can see a difference between a flash game and the Holocaust, or maybe it's just because I'm not a total moron. Either way, congrats and I'm sorry you find it more "fucking offensive" for a sock to "pretend to be Jewish" than the Holocaust comparison, because that's really really pathetic. --Jdellaro 11:56, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Jd... it isn't that I think it is completely acceptable! I have stated that I think it is at the "extreme" end of the spectrum. And it is a worrying/unsettling thing for a commercial entity to be engaged in! You read all this here yesterday and still felt like weighing in with a personal insult against me. Whoopee do. Enjoy the 24 hr block. Oh wait - you then have to moan like fuck about it here. Fox 12:01, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Hmmm....So basically someone compared the stupid flash site to nazis or something, Jareddr commented on it at CP, and you blocked him for it. Then he made a domment about another issue, was told to cite it, then complained here and was banned by you, that about right? --US-O11 insignia.svg Gen. S.T. Shrink COURTNEY!!! 12:05, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
I started to make a rational defence about this and then remembered - Sheesh is still a member of this community. Go figure. Fox 12:07, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Let me know when you begin that "rational" defense. I'd love some more laughs at your expense. --Jdellaro 12:08, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Actually, I didn't read about it in here as I usually don't come over to the Talk side, I just check out the WIGO side. But that's alright, just assume all you want, you've already made an ass of yourself. Any other sites you police to make sure nothing untoward is going on? Hmmm...actually this sort of reminds me of something. "Secret police" roaming from "house to house" (or site to site) looking for any activity to "crack down on" even though "official policy" is that CP doesn't do that sort of thing like WP does. Boy, it just sounds so familiar. --Jdellaro 12:08, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
LOL Twat. Fox 12:10, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Ugh. This entire thing seems kinda ridiculous to me. Fox. Did you ban Jareddr the second time based soley on Jdellaros edits here? --US-O11 insignia.svg Gen. S.T. Shrink COURTNEY!!! 12:10, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Fox, you're acting just like TK. I know you hate 'em, but that's my honest opinion. How about those "FUCK YOU ED" edits from you a while back? I guess he should ban you for those. Seriously, taking your anger out on RW because CP ignores anti-Semitic editors is unbecoming of you. NorsemanWassail! 12:15, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
No. I banned him for being a cunt. Fox 12:16, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Well. That's seems like a bad reason. Jareddr was a jerk. But aren't you being the exact same thing right now? Do you plan to unblock him at all? Interestingly enough although you seem angry at what's happened, you still keep....lulzy. --US-O11 insignia.svg Gen. S.T. Shrink COURTNEY!!! 12:25, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Oh, of course. Because that's the way the power structure is organised, right? /sniggers Fox 12:22, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

@Arcan I didn't block you Fox 12:37, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

If someone called you a paedophile without proof (being an ass, basically), then it isn't warranted and I would personally frown against an accusation thereof. However, you still haven't explained how being a "twat" or "cunt" is grounds for being banned at CP, when you explicitly have shown that just being a RW user is the reason for the banning. Wisdom98's block is proof that CP just doesn't care to follow its rules, and so far you're showing the same apathy. You say further deflection, but have yet to give a viable reason that you haven't violated CP policy and turn defensive. Thanks for not calling me a twat or anything, and I apologize for saying you were acting like TK (I was out of line, sorry), but I (and others) would still like to know what grounds Jareddr was blocked for. The evidence shown thus far is hypocrisy that only Karajou and others would display, and we would rather hope you are still one of the few, more respected, editors on CP. NorsemanWassail! 12:41, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

(ec) I didn't say you did. But you seem to be holding me accountable for what someone else said, and I was inquiring about something you, specifically, did. I'm not trying to be argumentative. I really respect the things you've done over at CP to make it a more sensible place. I just wanted to understand this one act. If that's too much to ask, fine. --Arcan ¡ollǝɥ 12:42, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Why did you block Jareddr, it wasn't he who you say called you a paedophile. Personally I don't see that as calling you a pedophile, seeing as you are most definitely not one of them. You just happen to be over there. Granted it doesn't detract from what he said but why take it out (something that happened in March) on Jareddr? --US-O11 insignia.svg Gen. S.T. Shrink COURTNEY!!! 12:44, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

(reset)Jello knew exactly what they were doing when they weighed in on an argument that was already cold hash here from yesterday. It wasn't to make any noble statement to defend either the pov of the pro or con: it was to call the statements of the son of a Holocaust survivor "ridiculous" - in this case, with the result being to make CP look silly for reprinting (the pathetic) WNDs "Hitler Youth" comparison, or to make the opinions of said Holocaust survivor's son look silly. Frankly, that's insulting enough. I like to scar the faces of people like that. Fox

Was that the one day Block? Then you unblocked and reblocked for 5 years why? --US-O11 insignia.svg Gen. S.T. Shrink COURTNEY!!! 12:53, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Said twat had to advertize to the world that he was actually a RW user. Tough cheese, but that's the way it is. Keep schtum and the block's over in a day. Gloat about what a bunch of arseholes we are, draw attention to who you are, expect more. Fox 12:56, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Thank you very much for your honest answer. --Arcan ¡ollǝɥ 12:57, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
But is it not one of the "differences from wikipedia" to not block based on anything elsewhere? --US-O11 insignia.svg Gen. S.T. Shrink COURTNEY!!! 12:58, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
I didn't write nor sign the "differences". Ask me about circumcision instead. Fox 13:00, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Are not all sysop supposed to can has differences? Also, when you put the knife near the baby's penis, are you supposed to just jam it in? (Weird joke) --US-O11 insignia.svg Gen. S.T. Shrink COURTNEY!!! 13:02, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
I don't think Fox is a sysop anymore (correct me if I'm wrong), but it does seem like the "differences" would be a CP edict for all to follow. Then again, I suppose we can't hold him to a standard that no one else at CP follows. As to that second bit - Aaaahh! Ouch! --Arcan ¡ollǝɥ 13:11, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Oh, so because you're the son of a Holocaust survivor---your opinions are beyond question? I can't state that the comparison is completely ridiculous because, again, you have a relationship to a Holocaust survivor? And furthermore, I didn't make your opinions look silly---they WERE silly. And I don't care if you're the son of a Holocaust survivor or the Queen of England---if your opinion is ridiculous, I'm going to say as much. Your family history is irrelevant to this conversation. In fact, if anything, I would think you would've agreed that the comparison between promoting conservation and the Hitler Youth is beyond the pale. But again, I don't care what happened to your family, I wasn't making any kind of offensive remarks about the Holocaust, and was explaining how the comparison belittles what happened in Germany at that time. So don't try and play the victim, Fox, because it doesn't pass the smell test. --Jdellaro 13:04, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

For the most part, I respect your opinions. Being the son of a Holocaust survivor, however, does not render those opinions immune to criticism. Nor does it provide you with the moral authority to decide what is and isn't a validly "Jewish" perspective. --Phentari 13:05, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

It gives me more insight in these matters than your uypbringing, however. Fox 13:14, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

But not in areas do decide who is and who is not jewish. Unless you have a Jewdar (which I've heard is real) But knowing nothing about Euler (or whoever it was you said was lying about it) except his opinions on this subject wouldn't give even the most Jewy jew the knowledge of instant Jewledge. "I like to scar the faces of people like that." I'm not sure how anyone who considers themselves rational can respect a person who would say such a thing. Bondurant 13:16, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
I never claimed rationality with regard to anti-semitism. Please feel free to email me and I will arrange for you to come to my house for your ass to be kicked. If you prefer, I will also split your clock. At no cost! Fox 13:30, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Hmmmm Let me see if if follow---calling your opinion ridiculous + you are the son of a Holocaust survivor = you calling me anti-semitic AND threatening to "scar my face." Not only are your opinions ridiculous, and your language offensive, but you are possibly mentally unstable. I'd have all three of those things looked into if I were you. --Jdellaro 13:35, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Ok, now you are being ridiculous. He is allowed to beleive that the site is offensive, not because his father is a holocaust survivor or even because he's Jewish but because he can. You offended him Jared, and that's a fact. You didn't mean to but it happened. He blocked you for being rude, which you really weren't and now you are. You would now be under the guidelines to be blocked. --US-O11 insignia.svg Gen. S.T. Shrink COURTNEY!!! 13:40, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
I think you are getting confused. Of course he can believe the site comparing conservation and HY is offensive. In fact, this all started because I was agreeing with someone who thought the comparison between conservation and Hitler Youth was absurd and trivialized the Holocaust. Fox tried to invalidate their opinion and stated, "If you really were a Jew" they would understand that the comparison was valid. So not only did Fox think the comparison was valid, but someone who disagreed wasn't "really a Jew". I called that opinion absolutely ridiculous and my statement has NOTHING, absolutely ZERO, to do with any connection he has to the Holocaust. In fact, him announcing it today is the first time I've even seen it. Am I being rude now? I would argue much less so in comparison to having been called an anti-semite and having someone threaten to "scar my face". --Jdellaro 14:02, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Well yes, a lot of what he has said was uncalled for, but the same goes for you. Why are you stooping to a level you consider reprehensible. And Fox, why are you doing the same thing too? It doesn't seem that Jared is anti-semitic at all. Just anti-you. And you did kinda block him for no good reason. --US-O11 insignia.svg Gen. S.T. Shrink COURTNEY!!! 14:09, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

At this juncture, I would like to say how disappointed I am that I am not involved in this. Please, can either Jareddr or Fox block me or be pissy with me too? If it will help, I could call one of you a cunt or something like that. Let me know, I feel left out. DogP 13:17, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Oooo. An Internet Tough Guy. Haven't seen one of those in a few weeks. I consider myself duly intimidated. --Gulik 15:02, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
That's a remarkably presumptuous attitude to take, particularly when coupled with the "No True Scotsman" position of denying that someone who shares your opinions could possibly be Jewish. Do you really believe that it's impossible that there are other children of Holocaust survivors out there who might find the website harmless? Who might consider Nazi analogies offensive and cheapening? --Phentari 13:20, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Things that come to mind: Touch pitch & be defiled (you're mixing with the wrong crowd over there); I was going to say "Methinks .... doth protest too much" but you might have jumped in your car & been on the way up here with a lynch mob - so I didn't. SusanG  ContribsTalk 14:08, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Surely it gives me as much right to call people names as is applied vice versa? Worst I've ever mananaged is nowhere near calling a parent a "paedophile" with regard to his own homeschooled kids. Fox 14:19, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
Did he know you were a parent? And the worst? Child murdering scum comes to mind (granted, there was a lot of evidence for that). And still the fact remains, different things affect different people. Enough of this Jdellaro stuff, what about unblocking Toffeeman? I'd like to un-sock and actually contribute in some (very) small way. Basically I'm doing a correspondence philosophy course at a London University and fiddling about with and extending philosophy articles helps me get little bits straight in my mind. I can't do this on WP because they're way ahead of me, so I do it on CP. I get to tidy up my mind, those homeschoolers get extensions to articles on Popper and Wittgenstein. I think its a good deal, Bugler doesn't think that allows me to tell Andy that he is wrong when he defames a dedicated and honest scientist. I emailed you with the "offending" post. Now how about it? --Toffeeman 15:14, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

I feel like doing grossly oversimplified math. Let's say that there are 100 people and 99 of them earn $40,000 per year, and 1 of them earns $1 million per year (total income: $4.96 million). Those who earn $40,000 pay a tax of 10%, and the $1 million person pays 20%.
  • The $1 million person pays $200,000 in taxes, leaving them with a paltry $800,000 to spare
  • The $40,000 people pay $396,000 in taxes, giving them enormous wealth at $36,000 each
  • The top 1% of earners earn 20.61% of all income
  • The top 1% of earners pay 33.56% of all income taxes.
This is the worst type of theft and I will not stand for it, lookit how you are crippling the wealthy of the nation >:o(.Shangrala 13:48, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Proxy, is it me or is WikiIndex fairly unreliable as far as information goes? The articles I've seen just flick back and forth between two biased viewpoints without ever reaching an agreement. Also, you describe RW as though it's a wiki specifically about atheism. Have I missed something? ~ Gloom(is never asleep) 11:44, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
I think most Wikis are less controversial than Conservapedia and RationalWiki. Wikiindex entries on less controversial Wikis do not change with edit wars but users go to less trouble over them. Wikiindex is a small, growing Wiki. The quality of the entries depends on whether or not anyone has yet put effort into them. Quality is variable. A year or 2 from now Wikiindex will be a valued database and users will be prepared to work on it. Never judge a Wiki by the way it is now. Judge its potential. I did have one question, though. If Fox blocked so-and-so "for being a cunt", why didn't the block comment at CP just say so and get it over with? I guess what pisses me off most about this whole thing is I went to the trouble of looking into Jinx's WP record, posted a few of the juicy bits on WIGO, and then Fox goes and uses every single piece I uncovered in his argument against Jinxy. But he doesn't thank RW for helping him, no, he just goes and tries to block as many of us as he can. I just figured he would recognise that he owes us a little better than that. Also if he was given a list of socks on CP (which I tend to doubt) he has betrayed the trust of the person who gave it to him. I expect this type of behaviour from Andy or Ed, perhaps I naively thought Fox was above them--Damo2353 22:52, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
I think we all were fairly surprised (to say the least) by Fox's sudden Face Heel Turn last night. He pretty much made my Shit List with his ranting about how the "Differences with WP" don't apply to him because he didn't "sign" them, and the "Give me your phone numbers, you cowards! I assure you I won't give them out! Oh, but does anybody want to have a copy of that list somebody trusted me with in private?" gig really didn't help. The only thing that gave that one a hilarious twist was the fact that no such list exists because the parodists usually stay in very deep cover without telling anybody. Barring a very convincing and hilarious story about how he was drunk or abducted by aliens, I think very few people will feel tempted to help Fox the next time idiots like Jinx poke him. --Sid 02:37, 31 July 2008 (EDT)

Wow, Karajou writes an 85 000 word article all by himself. Nice work, I'm glad you didn't just steal it from Wikipedia. Actually to be fair, he has tried to hide this fact, but 30 seconds on the find function shows him up.--Damo2353 02:54, 31 July 2008 (EDT)

Not to nitpick, but the article is actually 85 thousand bytes. That number of words would be a modestly sized book. Marginally Less Chaos!Audacity! 04:18, 31 July 2008 (EDT)
Need better link to CP, I suggest [3]? ħumanUser talk:Human 03:50, 31 July 2008 (EDT)
And I don't really see the "obvious" parallels or theft from WP? Ah, ok, you're not saying he did... so where did it come from? Please, accusations should be buttressed with evidence! ħumanUser talk:Human 03:53, 31 July 2008 (EDT)
I think Kara usually copies his country articles form public domain sources... A search for a phrase ("In the late 1980s, the government appeared to have many characteristics in common with Western") turned up a whole crapload of results, though several are Wikipedia mirrors. I'll give him the benefit of doubt for the moment, but I "encourage" him to link to his public domain source(s). --Sid 03:01, 31 July 2008 (EDT)
The whole of the paragraph under "Government Structure and Functions" is word for word the same as in the Wikipedia article under politics. Did wikipedia take this from somewhere else as well?--Damo2353 03:10, 31 July 2008 (EDT)
Actually, that wouldn't be the first time. Public Domain sources (like the CIA Fact Book or whatever it's called) are often used as sources (even for copy-pasting), I think. I'm not saying that this must be the case here, but Kara is one of the few people who usually stick to the "only copy-paste public domain stuff" rule, so for now, I'll just wait for him to provide a source. --Sid 03:17, 31 July 2008 (EDT)
Just googled that para: [4] as #1 SusanG  ContribsTalk 03:19, 31 July 2008 (EDT)

(Damn EC, that's twice)::::You are right, and I apologize to Karajou. Not all of it was taken from WP. Much of it was taken from here.--Damo2353 03:23, 31 July 2008 (EDT)

(Edit conflict, too. Making minor adjustments before re-posting.) The bottom of the WP article you linked to even says: "This article contains material from the Library of Congress Country Studies, which are United States government publications in the public domain." And a few clicks from there point at this page which seems to have the raw, .gov-hosted content we're looking for. Of course, it is possible that Kara chose the easy way out by copy-pasting from WP (which in turn is based on that site) like he apparently did in the "Potato Incident" incident, but that would require further research. And I'm somewhat startled that he didn't link to the source in the first place, but eh. Might be worth looking into later, but I don't expect major revelations somehow. --Sid 03:25, 31 July 2008 (EDT)
OK OK I was wrong to impute wrongdoing, however call me old fashioned but I am not completely comfortable with the idea of just copy verbatim something someone else has written. Even if it is "public domain", and even if credit is given. Clearly I am behind the times.--Damo2353 03:34, 31 July 2008 (EDT)

Come on people. maybe he wrote it! I googled a random phrase ("Karl Marx maintained that constitutions ought to reflect existing class and political relationships, not prescribe the nature of such relations") - no results. Please to not assume instant wrongdoing just because it was done on CP. Better to bust me last May (on CP) for pulling classical music stuff outta my ass... Although, Susan's link appears to match a lot of words... but are they PD? See, if what you copy is PD, you don't have to attribute it if you don't want to (you should, but you don't have to) I call "cheap shot". But I may still be wrong... ħumanUser talk:Human 03:58, 31 July 2008 (EDT)
Well, I would always be suspicious of a large article that appeared in one go without any rewrites. But of course it goes without saying that any accusations of plagiarism rather than just suspicions should be backed up with evidence. In which case a nice side-by-side article should be written. In the case of huge identical chunks a certain amount of ellipses should be used. As for attribution then it is only good form to say where you got the article from as a professed "encyclopedia" should always cite its sources. There are also licensing issues to be considered as posting PD under GFDL for example is not on. Despite what I may think of Karajou as a personality he normally includes a PD template on his paste-fests. Of course if large chunks are copied from WP then that is counter to the CP commandments. RationalWiki - A public service[edit]

Somewhere in southern England several days ago.

"Now, N____ you promise you won't do anything stupid while I'm away?"
Of course not my little vixen, I'l be as good as g-ld!
"You won't go down the pub and beat up all the locals? Remember what happened last time!"
No, I've stocked up with Special Brew from Sainsburys. I'll only drink at home.
"Promise?"
Promise

A few days later.

Damn! No sex for nearly a week and now I'm right out of ale. I need some scabs and bruises to show my eldest daughter that I'm still fighting anti-semitism but I promised I wouldn't go down the pub!
He, he! I'll log on to RatWiki and stir them up a bit. I wonder if any of them would be stupid enough to come here and have a fight?

A few hourslater.

Fuck the lot of them and their liberal pacifism! I'm off down the pub for some real blood. Shit! The pub's shut now. Oh well, I'll show the wussies. TK would have never have put up with their mealy-mouthing. Now which ones do I know that edit at Conservapedophilia. Oops, Freudian slip, I mean Conservapedia. Did you enjoy your time in America?
"Yes, thanks. You didn't get into any fights while I was away did you?"
No my little vixen. I spent all my time on the internet fighting anti-semites.
"Thank goodness for RationalWiki. I couldn't stand it if we had to move house yet again!"

I am minded of the sentencing report, which concluded that "there is no pattern of offending and no criminogenic needs have been identified. There are no antisocial or discriminatory attitudes associated with the offending and it is my assessment that [the defendant] has acted in a way that is essentially out of character in committing this offence." I suspect that they were sympathetic to my reasons, but as the judge rightly pointed out, punching nazis is actually against the law, and as such I would be sentenced to "provide a measure of reparation to the community." Fox 08:01, 31 July 2008 (EDT)
Ok, fair point. I take my comment back. I was (over) extrapolating because you do seem to get very angry with us, and we're not nazis. Silver Sloth 08:06, 31 July 2008 (EDT)

You know, I have to agree with Fox that punching someone for making holocaust jokes is defensible. People shouldn't joke about the holocaust. My grandfather died in one of those concentration camps. He fell right off of one of the guard towers. Just kidding, Fox, don't punch me. Stile4aly 13:00, 31 July 2008 (EDT)

I'm not worried about punching a Nazi, what I am worried about is the little display of petulance Fox displays when anyone disagrees with him. Indeed, as Human says, this is a favorite thing with creationists. The play and resulting movie are only loosely based on the actual occurrences; while much of the personalities and interactions are true, a lot of the facts are very different. Most prominently, Scopes was not an innocent fellow interested in science really. Instead, he volunteered for the test case to try to overthrow the law, meeting the request of the ACLU (which had offered to cover the costs of such a case). That's one of many reasons I am a card-carrying member of the ACLU, actually. Many creationists feel - and are justified to some moderate degree - that the movie is often displayed as the literal truth. It is not. It is actually often shown in science classes; I watched it in my school, in fact.--Tom Moorefiat justitia ruat coelum 04:25, 4 August 2008 (EDT)

"Hey, I can use this in my American History Class..."[edit]

In the upcoming "Andrew Schlafly Trustworthy Guide to American History", we'll learn that Nixon really wasn't a crook after all - it was media bullying that forced him out of office, because he was never impeached. It was only a coincidence that the bullying-induced resignation came right after democrats and republicans in congress passed three articles of impeachment against him.

I'm reminded of those "For Dummies" books with the cute sidebars. For his new history book, the sidebar here would read:

Lawyer Andy Says...
Remember kids, if a conservative resigns or dies before the trial starts, then they were never found guilty, and THAT means it never happened!"

Replying to that post: Hey, Jinx. You do know that you're directly implying that William Ruhlmann added vandal-links to "Necro Babes", an "erotic horror" site? Also, the applied policy is to revert/delete first and then to determine if it's maybe the same guy. It's important to first play it safe: Don't just assume that you got permission to reproduce entire articles just because the first name matches (Fun fact: "William" is a somewhat popular name). And lastly, it's not my job to make sure you don't got permission. And even if I went through your arbitrary hoops, you wouldn't believe my "He answered and told me that he didn't add it" anyway. Bottom line: You're breaking accepted policy and very likely the site rules. --Sid 14:16, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

Quick Debate[edit]

Should we start just ignoring Jinx? I know he is always good for a laugh, but recently he has become obsessive. He is now feeding of the beratings we give him. He is clearly a lonely little boy that wants attention, but goes about it in the wrong way.

Agreed but only because his thirst for attention is not as amusing as Ken's. NightFlareThis is a talk page. 20:33, 1 August 2008 (EDT)
Nah, let's keep it up unless it's turning into stress. Unlike Ken, Jinx doesn't focus his shout-outs in one area (he also can't delete them instantly), so they're all over the place. People lurking and posting will wonder what he's talking about, and they'll either find us by googling or they will get into trouble by asking openly. Added bonus: We all know that people who mention RW too often get into trouble sooner or later, and Jinx is already hopping around on somewhat thin ice after the clash with Fox. Let him stomp some more. :)

My philosophy, which may be in the minority but I am not sure, is that the crazier it gets, the more people involved and the more interaction we have (even through "shout outs) the better it is all around. The more people that see how crazy CP is the better, and the crazier it gets and the less encyclopedic it gets the better. Wow - American History Lectures[edit]

I'm usually not overly interested in history lectures, so I never bothered to look into the CP Lectures, but DAMN, I've been missing out!

Maybe we could write most of American history just by predicting what would probably happen. Imagine a big chunk of land in between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. There are people who live on the land. Ask yourself: why would Europeans want to go there? What reasons can you think of? Search for gold. Convert the natives to Christianity. Conquer the natives. Obtain freedom. Why do your parents homeschool? For some of the same reasons.

Around then, I almost fell out of my chair, laughing like crazy. I was 95% certain that I was looking at the most awesomely wandalized article ever, but nope, this had been in there ever since Andy's first edit! --Sid 22:09, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

AK: It's almost correct. Andy's mistake is to assume that in ye olde days people walked around saying "look at ye sun, and ye flowers, ye birds and ye bees." Complete nonsense. The fancy looking "y" character in old English is called a "thorn" and stands for the letters "th". So the first sentence should be "In the name of God Amen." It's a small point, but it demonstrates that Andy is in no position to be interpreting historical documents.-Antifly 08:51, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
To be fair, I doubt the average history teacher would know that. As you say, it's a minor point anyway and not particularly relevant for the overall understanding of the source. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 09:59, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
To be fair, if the average history teacher didn't know that, then the average history teacher is an idiot. SusanG  ContribsTalk 10:24, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
I suppose "subtle point" is more accurate than "minor point." Language is important. The "evolution is just a theory" argument is a perfect example. Creationists pick up scientific literature, are completely ignorant of the language that scientists use, and take the text to read as modern day demotic English. The "yee" versus "the" example shows that Andy does the same thing with historical texts. The results are predictable.-Antifly 11:01, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
Except that he's not misreading anything here. He's trying to show that religion was important to the early British settlers in America, and this is obviously true, even trivially so. WTF (part the second)[edit]

I read this and almost died, from his "American History Lecture 5:"

Learn history in small pieces. I can’t grade all the papers in this course at one time, or even in one day. After about an hour or two, I burn out. But doing this in 45 minute periods each day, it is very enjoyable. The material is easier to digest. Could you eat one and only one meal each day? No, we eat three meals so it’s easier to digest. Same with learning history. 45 minutes each day for 5 days will be much easier than over 4 hours in one day. You’ll retain the material much better if you spread it out.
According to 20/20 (unbiased media), you are supposed to eat 6 meals a day--3 major meals and 3 "snacks" to reduce your body fat percentage. o.O The real sock of a sock... known as Chaosfish 12:05, 2 August 2008 (EDT)

Oh, Chuck,
"1607 is one of the few dates you should memorize. This was after the Spanish had settled in Florida, but before the French had settled in Quebec. So remember the sequence: Spanish, English, and then French. "
That is the whole paragraph. You public (atheist state) school teachers should learn from smaht people like Andy how to teach. Of course, it helps to have really smaht, already-Christian-oriented students. Chuck, I suspect you probably are against prayer in school, and like to see babies ripp'd untimely from the womb and cast into the ashcan? Your liberal lies and confusion will not sway us here, allow you mind to be free (you also have free will to be wrong!) and the truth shall make you, um, poop in rainbow colors... ħumanUser talk:Human 03:47, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
As a matter of fact, you liberal subversive commie fagHomosexual, I am not against prayer in school.... If a bunch of religious folk wanna prayer whatever. I'm against school sponsered manatory prayer... and not even because of the religious aspect.... it's more of the fact that doing that just opens the door for kids to act up... for example, when the middle school I work at did a moment of silence for 9/11 and Columbine, about 15 kids were written up for obnoxious behavior... Give them this chance everyday and it leads to complete chaos. As for the your over the top graphic speech on abortion, I never wanna see a fetus in the ashcan... they can be expolited for stem cells and maybe even a good fuel source... Well said, Chuck. Hell, at about 11 AM that day, I lit a candle and shut the hell up for a few minutes. My vet. lost her husband on one of those planes, and sold her practice a few years later to get involved full-time in the peace movement. As far as the uses of fetuses, yes, the ashcan is silly. Hell, pop 'em out , plump 'em up and roast them slowly! Yum! Num num num. Anyway, I don't think teh assfly has a clue as how to actually teach. ħumanUser talk:Human 04:17, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
Exactly... As adults, we know when it's appropriate to shut up damn traps... kids don't see it that way, especially middle and high school kids... For Christ's sake, we had trouble getting our kids to stand for the pledge of allegiance (Colorado state law demands that every school give the students an oppurtunity to say the pledge everyday, but we can't force them to) I cannot even fathom trying to keep them quiet for individual prayer.... And even if the Assfly watched a marathon of Mr Holland's Opus, Stand by Me, Stand and Deliver and Sister Act II, he wouldn't have the first idea about how to begin approaching teaching. He views teacher as a way to gain power over others (it's a running theme in his family, note the failed Congressional attempts) and implant kids with his version of events. A true teacher will not impose their will on the students, be they left wing or right wing. A truly gifted teacher will help kids discover their own thoughts, feelings and beleifs and not try to cram a certain mindset down their throats. You here me Andy... I'm talking to you bitch... Jinx, I know you're watching, don't bother passing that message you fuck face. SirChuckBObama/Biden? 2012 04:22, 2 August 2008 (EDT)

Andy, who has admitted his inability to grade 35 papers in a night, who provides watered-down versions of the same test-taking strategies, and whose lectures are rife with mistakes that would be unacceptable in a middle-school essay, is competent.

Conservapedia Law[edit]

The law offices of Conservapedia are indeed a scary thing.... Liberals Hate Columbus[edit]

I like how Andy tries really hard to say that Leif Ericksson might not have existed. You know, despite the fact that we know where he and his crew tried to create a settlement.
Heck, there's also the strong possibility, given period writings, that a Chinese crew ended up on the shore of Washington long before Columbus hit his uninhabitable rock. But obviously, these are just myths made up because we can't stand the thought of a Christian discovering something. Barikada 02:37, 3 August 2008 (EDT)
Ugga mugga gurg.... this is the exact noise I made when I read "failure to recognize that American politics is always a battle between two sides" ANDY, GET SOME FUCKING HELP YOU IDIOT. At no point in American history has there ever been "Two sides" on ANYTHING... For those of you wondering why I'm getting all worked up about this, it is becaue this man is attempting to teach children, who are most likely at a stage where they can make some important decisions and begin the road towards making a positive contribution and this Jackass is PISSING THAT AWAY. Andy, Sit in on a fucking class and learn something... A slight lesson (for free) in American Politics today, there are approx. 18,000 different points of view about several subjects. Nothing in life is "Red vs. Blue." Even the Civil war, which is typically borken down that way is not two sided. You are a horrible human being and I hope you catch something. This is already the... second time I agree with Andy on something in one and a half year. In my book "to discover a new land" does not mean to find it, but to come back, report about it and be believed. By all means, Columbus did change the course of world history, Ericksson did not. (Editor at) CP:no intelligence allowed 03:50, 3 August 2008 (EDT)
It's not the Columbus part people are objecting to, I think, but mainly the part that says that people (presumably, 'liberals') are attempting to downplay the role of Jesus in discovering America. The irony of course is that when Leif Ericson was alive, Christianisation was all the rage in Scandinavia. The missionaries had arrived with their offers of shiny new clothing and immortal life for anyone who'd be baptised and Christianity was the trendy new cult to be seen in. By the time Leif arrived in the Americas he was almost certainly a Christian. --81.187.254.242 04:55, 3 August 2008 (EDT)
In my eyes, the "WTF" of that is the part where Andy uses the classic weasel words again to completely distort the apparent consensus: "Some claim that around 1000 A.D., the Scandinavian Leif Ericson discovered Vinland where the present New England is, and even supposedly founded a small colony that failed." From what I read, there is real evidence of such a colony (even though there is debate if that colony is indeed the "Vinland" in question), so Andy's typical "A few fringe lunatics make up fairy tales about some colony that supposedly exists" style is really little more than deceit. He can't accept the fact that anybody would by any chance have found that country before Columbus. I figure that once we get Roger into the mix, he'll claim that even the Native Americans only found and colonized America after Columbus. Or that they were practically dying out and had to be saved by the Great Christians. --Sid 06:19, 3 August 2008 (EDT)
I'm not sure what he's complaining about. While adults tend to have to knowledge to be aware that Columbus was not the first, it's still taught in the schools that he was the primary reason for populating America. There might be mention at the upper levels that he was not as godly as we had been led to believe. But I was never taught anything other that 100% pro-Columbus stuff from public schools. - Lardashe

And, of course, it's ALL irrelevant, as the folks who came over the Bering Straits beat everyone else to discovering America by about 10,000 years or so. --Gulik 15:57, 3 August 2008 (EDT)

It doesn't matter. The Great Leif Erikson vs. Columbo Columbus is now a CP Core Issue. Andy has decreed that Columbus is the Great Christian American Hero who discovered America, the Christian Vikings who actually discovered America are not relevant to his interests, and L'Anse aux Meadows is a hoax perpetrated by the great conspiracy of evil experts and archaeologists. Columbus[edit]

This might be the evil liberal Wikipedia, but I thought wp:Christopher_Columbus actually on discovered Mexico, Cuba and other parts of the Caribbean? What does he actually have to do with US history other than possibly encourage other people to sail out that way?

Also Andy's Viking thing is quite funny considering his global warming stance. The Vikings use to farm Greenland and possibly were able to sail to America before the mini-ice age began I think around 1200-1300 (I can't remember the actual dates now). It was only after the mini-ice age around 1500 people were able to cross the Atlantic again. Andy always credits this mini-ice age recession to our current increase in global temperatures. \approx\pi 21:07, 3 August 2008 (EDT)

A Little Lesson[edit]

Hi Jinx... Just want to give you a quick lesson this edit is completely wrong. Bringing up Lenski's arguments against Schlafly is not repeat not a non sequitur. A non sequitur is defined as "1. a reply that has no relevance to what preceded it 2. (logic) a conclusion that does not follow from the premises" As the poster was bringing up that Andy has a tendency to not read anything presented to him (a fact which Prof. Lenski picked up on as well) it was perfectly natural for him to bring this up. To slightly paraphrase a John Stewart joke, A non sequitur would be "Andy, you claim that the vikings never reached America, but do you think Unicycles are furniture."
