Jordan Bernt "Clean your room" Peterson (born 1962) is a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto and self-help guru.

He also seems fairly egotistical, and there's a high level of intellectual poverty on his YouTube channel: he misuses Jung's and Nietzsche's work to prop up his whole Christian spiel, even though Jung was an agnostic-leaning occultist, and you'd be hard-pressed to find someone in that time period (or ever) who hated religion more than Nietzche. Peterson must know this, but his fan base doesn't, so they treat him as some sort of philosopher king.


He rose to fame (as can be seen by his YouTube channel[1] having over 275,000 subscribers and 12,000,000 views) was largely due to his public opposition to the Canadian government's Bill C-16,[note 1][2][3][4] which sparked a controversy that earned him significant media coverage. He says he opposed the bill because he feels that being forced to use specific words to refer to people is a free speech issue. However, many people believe he is transphobic and that he opposes a person's gender identity and/or expression from being discriminated against according to the Canadian Human Rights Act.[5][6]

At the Canadian senate hearing of bill C-16, Senator Ratna Omidvar asked Peterson how the bill's proponents could reconcile his objection to the bill and opposing gender-based discrimination. Peterson's response was,

"I oppose discrimination against gender identity and gender expression, that's not the point. The point is the specifics of the legislation that surrounds it and the insistence that people have to use compelled speech. That's what I'm objecting to. I've dealt with all sorts of people in my life. People who don't fit in in all sorts of different ways. I'm not a discriminatory person...but I think this legislation is reprehensible and I do not believe for a moment that it will do what it intends to do."[7]

Given that his objections to bill C-16 resonate with many people including transphobic individuals, it is unsurprising that many of his fans are reactionaries, who like and support Peterson for his opposition stance to the bill but also due to his view of IQ being a huge determiner of cognitive ability[8] (which the race realist reactionaries love to cite), his views on the psychological differences between men and women[9] (which the sexist reactionaries all love), sympathetic views towards conservative values,[10] being hugely anti-Marxist[11][12] (because it's not like any other system has caused mass death at all[13]) and for defending Christianity.[14] [15][16].

This has led him to be interviewed by a whole slew of famous reactionary stars, including Carl of Swindon,[17] Stefan Molyneux,[18] Joe Rogan,[19] (who called his first interview with Peterson his favorite podcast he's ever done) Dave Rubin,[20] and Theryn Meyer, "Reasonable Trans Person".[21]


Jordan Peterson seems to not like postmodernism that much, looking at the completely reasonable amount of videos on YouTube Peterson has done on the subject.[22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39] He treats postmodernism as a serious problem facing academia. Peterson generally misrepresents postmodernism and misconstrues it to be a corrupting force rather than just a branch of philosophy.
