Turning towards Mecca

Sheik Feiz Muhammad is a Lebanese-Australian fundamentalist Muslim preacher, former boxer, and street thug who one day somehow miraculously found the glory of Islam. He subsequently decided to leave his devilish lifestyle to follow almighty Allah instead, and after a long period of some heavy indoctrination, he rose to the role of Sheik. Over the past decade, he has lived in both Australia and Lebanon, but for now, seems to be settled in Australia. He operates his ministry primarily in local mosques around Sydney and also via the internet.

What a wonderful, great guy[edit]

In 2005, during a sermon, Muhammad gained notoriety, blaming rape victims for the way they dress. He said:

A victim of rape every minute somewhere in the world. Why? No one to blame but herself. She displayed her beauty to the entire world, strapless, backless, sleeveless, nothing but satanic skirts, slit skirts, translucent blouses, miniskirts, tight jeans: all this to tease man and appeal to his carnal nature. Would you put this sheep that you adore in the middle of hungry wolves? No... It would be devoured. It's the same situation here. You're putting this precious girl in front of lustful, satanic eyes of hungry wolves. What is the consequence? Catastrophic devastation, sexual harassment, perversion, promiscuity.[1]

That's not all of it.

In a 2007 DVD, Muhammad stated that all non-Muslims (particularly atheists) were "dirt" and called upon his followers to go about murdering atheists and people of other faiths.[2] He also believes that homosexuals are filth who should "get executed,"[3] and has criticized Australian society for not upholding Islamic laws which enforce the death penalty for gays. In a 2007 sermon, he stated that Jews are scum and likened them to pigs, while also claiming that Muslim parents should commit suicide and ritualistically sacrifice their children for the glory of Allah.[4] However, unlike many antisemitic Christian fundies, he does not seem to subscribe to Jewish conspiracy theories. He also believes that all Western culture is Satanic (especially television and fashion) and that because of this, Muslim youth should stay away from youths of other religions or risk divine retribution.[5] In 2012, he made a bizarre speech where he said that the sport of rugby league is evil, and that all who watch the game are in a relationship with Satan.[6] He also isn't sexist in the least, but only believes that all women who attend secular universities will inevitably commit adultery while at these evil institutions because of the heavy presence of atheistic, Satanic, liberal male professors there.[7] But men who attend university won't commit adultery, because they are automatically more moral. And if they do, so what!

A change of heart[edit]

Muhammad also called for the beheading of Dutch politician Geert Wilders, who criticised fundamentalist Islamic culture and said it was violent. But he later said that these comments were taken "out of context" and he only meant them metaphorically. Strangely enough though, he spoke out against the worldwide Muslim protests following the release of the controversial "film" Innocence of Muslims and stated that the Muslims who committed the violence were disgraceful, and that violent protests are forbidden in Islam. After the protests, he stated that he was not a "hater" anymore,[8] and is now much "wiser" than what he was when he made the statements regarding rape victims, Jews, and homosexuals.

Possible influences on the 2013 Boston bombing[edit]

In the aftermath of the April 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, a personal YouTube playlist under the name of alleged bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev (now deceased) was revealed which featured videos of several controversial sermons by Sheik Feiz Muhammad.[9] However, police later rejected any possible links between Sheik Feiz and the bombings, because the Sheik now adheres to a more liberal Islamic belief system, and that because of this there is no way he would now endorse such horrific acts.[10] Sheik Feiz Muhammad invited Federal Attorney General Mark Dreyfus to his home, where he explained his newly-adopted liberal beliefs, and denied having had any previous contact with the Tsarnaev brothers.
