“”Homosexuality is a mental illness
|
—Emil Kirkegaard in January 2023[2] |
Emil Ole William Kirkegaard who changed his name legally to William Engman[3][4] (online aliases: Deleet,[5][6] Deleetdk,[7] EmilOWK) (1989–) is a Danish far-right linguist,[8] eugenicist,[8] climate change denier,[note 1] homophobe, and activist for legalising child pornography and incest, as well as lowering age of consent.[9] Kirkegaard controversially argues that homosexuality is a mental illness and has also stated that it is a "good idea to legalize child porn" because he thinks viewing child porn reduces rape rates.[10][11] In 2023, he came out in support of Western imperialism and colonialism of Africa, arguing: "With Westerners, the common people will experience better health, economic growth (trade), justice (impartial courts), better governance, less war, less savagery."[12] The genocide of indigenous peoples and environmental degradation[13] don't seem to bother him.
Kirkegaard has a wide range of crank views and is a global-warming denier, anti-feminist, ableist, anti-vegan, homophobe, Islamophobe, transphobe, and has promoted white supremacy.[14][15][16][17][18][19] He is most notorious online for calling LGBT people and those who disagree with him "mentally ill". Kirkegaard also argues dying your hair unnatural colours (such as blue) is associated with mental illness.[20] Despite his own morally reprehensible writings on child porn and age of consent, Kirkegaard has a history of trying to link homosexuality to pedophilia as well as smearing left-wing people on his blog as pedophiles.[21] Kirkegaard has re-tweeted "Opposing pedophilia is officially a right-wing position".[22]Do You Believe That?
Openly a sexist, Kirkegaard supports "policies that reduce [female] higher education" to raise "fertility rates in the West".[23] Similar to Richard Hanania, Kirkegaard follows antisemite Bronze Age Pervert on Twitter and considers him a "public intellectual".[24]
Aside from his controversial writings on eugenics and race, Kirkegaard has been involved in other activities such as publishing personal data of 70,000 OKCupid users without permission, including their sexual preferences,[25] considered by Vox to be "without a doubt one of the most grossly unprofessional, unethical and reprehensible data releases".[26] His writings on race and intelligence[27] have caused controversy and because peer-reviewed journals refuse to publish his shakiest work, he set up the OpenPsych pseudojournals.[28] However, after this journal was discredited he now publishes pseudo-scientific race articles in the open-access Psych journal.[29][30] As well as running OpenPsych (revived in 2021[31]), Kirkegaard was (and may still be) the domain owner for Mankind Quarterly, a racist pseudojournal rejected by mainstream science.[8][32][33][34]
Since 2014, Kirkegaard has attended the London Conference on Intelligence at University College London (UCL) with far-right individuals to deliver pseudoscientific lectures on controversial IQ-related subjects, including eugenics, hereditarianism, and race.[35][36][37][38]
Kirkegaard denies and attacks anyone who points out he is alt-right and/or a white nationalist since he knows those things discredit his writings on race and intelligence; he self-describes himself alt-center, a term similarly adopted by Anatoly Karlin, Bo Winegard, and several other crypto-fascist bloggers. Despite for years complaining RationalWiki had inaccurately labelled him alt-right and white nationalist, in March 2021 he wrote for the white nationalist American Renaissance.[39] In July 2022, Kirkegaard essentially admitted to being a white nationalist, stating he is "in favor of universal ethno-nationalism" and wants to prevent refugees from entering Denmark, also stating "I think immigration levels should be quite low, so that Denmark remains Danish. There cannot be a Denmark without Danes. Culture and ethnicity are inherently intertwined."[40]
Emil Kirkegaard was a scheduled speaker at an International Society for Intelligence Research 2022 conference at University of Vienna, but was prevented from speaking after a keynote speaker at the same event complained, describing Kirkegaard as a "careless racist lunatic" and a "notorious individual".[41][42][43] In 2023, Kirkegaard attended white nationalist conferences and meetings including the Guide to Kulchur and lectured for far-right groups such as the Traditional Britain Group.[44]
Background
Kirkegaard was born in Denmark in 1989,[45] but in 2018 moved to the US. A pseudointellectual, he has described himself as a "polymath", "scientist", "geneticist", "philosopher", and "psychologist",[46][47] when he isn't any of these things, and his only qualification is a BA in Linguistics from Aarhus University. In 2019, Kirkegaard moved back to Denmark.[48] In 2014, he co-founded OpenPsych with Davide Piffer.
In May 2016, Aarhus University told Kirkegaard to stop lying about his employment as a "scientist". At the time, Kirkegaard was unemployed but falsely described his job as a "data scientist" on his Google Plus profile.[49] Aarhus University published another statement clarifying "Emil Kirkegaard - he is not a scientist".[50]
On his OkCupid dating profile, Kirkegaard describes himself as supporting polyamorous sexual relationships because he cheats on women.[51][52]
Kirkegaard gained negative media attention in 2018 when it was discovered he was involved with the eugenicist London Conference on Intelligence. During this time, many journalists looked into his internet activities and it was found that he made a series of controversial blog posts making offensive comments about children and legalizing child porn from 2012-2014. It was discovered he is a sadomasochist with various paraphilias including erotic asphyxiation.
Sadomasochism and erotic asphyxiation
Kirkegaard was a moderator on the message board Arto.dk in 2006-2007[53] where he posted about his interest in BDSM. Although his comments were deleted, he wrote a blog post about his sexual interest in paraphilias in 2012 where he admitted him and his girlfriend have a fetish for erotic asphyxiation. At the time Kirkegaard worried he would be charged with murder if his girlfriend died by asphyxiation so argued he would tape their sex in case she died:
Erotic asphyxiation or breath control play is the intentional restriction of oxygen to the brain for sexual arousal. The sexual preference for that behavior is variously called asphyxiophilia, autoerotic asphyxia, hypoxyphilia...
This subject is of some personal interest to me becus ive slept with a girl who likes this stuff. It is kinda fun, even if one has to be careful. I probably wudnt do it again, without some a prerecorded video or something that i can show in the case that she dies. In that way, i wont be sentenced for murder.[54]
Piratpartiet and child pornography
Kirkegaard was a member of the Danish Piratpartiet (Pirate Party) from 2012–2014. After leaving this party, he set up two similar parties of his own: Internetpartiet (Internet Party), 2015 and Technologipartiet (Technology Party) 2016–present; he describes the latter as a think-tank.[55]
While a member of the Piratpartiet, he caused controversy with his posts about child pornography on the Piratpartiet website. In 2013, while posting on the forum, he linked to a Danish child pornography filter on WikiLeaks and claimed to have knowledge that websites on the filter "are still up" and contain child porn (so must have viewed the images himself) and then encouraged forum users to hide their real IP address with a Tor browser if viewing the illegal images to avoid police:
For legal reasons, I do not think you should post any real child pornography here, as the website risks being shut down. However, we can refer to something fine. A few of the pages on the Danish child porn filter are still up and actually contain child porn. Wikileaks published a version of the block filter (the list is secret) a few years ago. If you are brave (possibly on a proxy / Tor), then you could take a look at the pages it is about. It is irresponsible to make laws about things you know nothing about, so consequently, you have to actually look at it to know what you are talking about. However, I would not recommend anyone to admit that they have looked at it, as it is very illegal per Danish law.[56]
Kirkegaard has tried to justify viewing child pornography on the basis that those studying laws about internet censorship need to look at the illegal images. This is questionable at best. In 2009, a German Pirate Party MP was charged with possession and distribution of child pornography but used Kirkegaard's doubtful argument that he was only viewing the images for "conducting research".[57] In 2012, Kirkegaard left a bunch of comments sympathetic to legalising child pornography on Rick Falkvinge's blog, the founder of Sweden's Pirate Party. In one offensive comment, Kirkegaard wrote:
There is another potential reason why it is a good idea to legalize child porn. Some studies show that the availability of porn has reduced rape rates. Since child porn is a subset of porn, one could expect the same thing to happen with it. The causal theory is that when people have access to porn, they jack off to that instead and thus are less horny, and so less likely to rape. This reasoning applies just as well to child porn.[10]
Kirkegaard also stated:
The child porn that is already made can be used by pedophiles without further harm to the children in the film. If that helps reduce rape of children, that’s just good. If child porn really helps reduce rape of children, then animated child porn may also do so. And since that doesn’t require children actually be raped to be made, all the better.[10]
On the Piratpartiet website, Kirkegaard had also defended Falkvinge, who is an infamous activist for legalising child pornography.[58] Kirkegaard has described Falkvinge as "brave" and has claimed that talking about legalising child pornography is "a discussion necessary to have".[59][60]
Child porn and rape blog posts
In 2012, Kirkegaard wrote a controversial blog post titled "the ban on child porn possession", which disturbingly suggested that a "compromise" for pedophiles is to have sex with children whilst they are asleep using "sleeping medicine" so they don't notice it.[61][62]
Falkvinge recently ran an article about the legalization of child porn possession. Either very foolish or very brave, perhaps both. Surely some reporters will pick up on this sooner or later and run headlines like “Pirates want to legalize child porn”, which even if true will damage the media image of the Pirate Parties. However, there is no way around this if one wants to discuss censorship and freedom of information. There is a reason why online censorship started with child porn, and ofc, the copyright people are happy about it.
I suggest that people read the comments as well, i also made some comments there as well.
Consider also reading this article which is making the basic point: if sexual orientation is something one is born with (it is), then the preference for children is as well. So, no law can make people become not pedofiles. Sad situation. Now comes the saddest part: Suppose one is born a pedofile. What to do? If one is a moral being, then one will avoid actually raping children. One can have sex with some rather young ones (say, any consenting child in puberty) without any moral problems, especially when one is young oneself.
For the rest, one is left to masturbate to porn, perhaps child porn (animated or not), and regular porn. That sucks, and there is nothing to do about it. Perhaps a compromise is having sex with a sleeping child without them knowing it (so, using sleeping medicine). If they dont notice it is difficult to see how they cud be harmed, even if it is rape. One must distinguish between rape becus the other was disconsenting (wanting to not have sex), and rape becus the other is not consenting, but not disconseting either (so, unaware of the action becus of sleep or coma or something like that). There is also the possibility of bodily harm that will be there after the person wakes up. This is especially the case with small children since their bodily openings are not large enuf for a regular sized male penis. To avoid this one shud not penetrate.
Oh, and perhaps the best solution to one who is exclusively aroused by very young children: castration, either medical or fysical. This will help reduce libido.[61]
In another blog post, Kirkegaard defended the legalization of animated-child pornography.[63] In 2018, Kirkegaard was widley criticized in British newspapers and by many other notable people for making these offensive blog posts.[64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71][72][73][74][75][76][77]
In 2017, Kirkegaard stated that all his posts were "hypothetical" but still defended his blog post:
My remark was simply that if you have sex with someone [children] while they are asleep and somehow don’t wake up from it and they never discover it later somehow, it is not likely for there to be any causal effects on mental health. How would there be?[78]
Kirkegaard v. Smith
Kirkegaard filed a defamation lawsuit against Oliver D. Smith after Smith called Kirkegaard a "pedophile" after reading his offensive blog posts. Kirkegaard lost the preliminary hearing Kirkegaard v Smith [2019] EWHC 3393 (QB)[79] and discontinued the lawsuit on 22 May 2020, shortly before the summary judgement hearing.[80] Kirkegaard won no damages and is liable to pay the defendant's legal fees. Keep in mind that this was all despite the fact that English defamation law is notoriously plaintiff-friendly, placing the burden of proof on the defendant. Despite filing and losing a libel suit, Kirkegaard claims on his website "sometimes I think we should just get rid of libel laws" Do You Believe That?.[81] PZ Myers wrote a blog post on the outcome of the case.[82]
It was revealed in November 2021 that Kirkegaard is in contempt of court for refusing to pay back legal costs totalling over £45,000.[83][84] Kirkegaard currently resides in Kiel, Germany and changed his name to William Engman in May 2021, named after his great-grandfather Harald Rudyard Engman.[3][85] Smith contends that he changed his name and moved country to avoid paying the £45k.[86] Since relocating to Germany, Kirkegaard is associated with the white nationalist GegenUni and is managing director of the company Gesellschaft für deutsch-dänischen Wissenstransfer UG.[87][88] According to German media outlet Zeit Online in December 2023, Kirkegaard was being harbored by Mathilda Huss at her Landhaus Adlon (translation from the original German via Google Translate):
According to research by ZEIT ONLINE, Mathilda Huss is closely connected to the right-wing extremist scene. The entrepreneur already runs a hotel with her partner in Potsdam, and her private villa is also located on the same site. AfD politicians and officials from the AfD youth organization Junge Alternative, the Values Union and the right-wing Friedrich A. von Hayek Society are said to have met on this extensive area in recent years. For three years, Huss has also been supporting the extreme right-wing Dane Emil Kirkegaard, who also lives on the premises of the guesthouse on Lehnitzsee called Landhaus Adlon. [89]
"Fresh Fish" tweet
On 16 September 2022, Kirkegaard disturbingly described 10th grade school girls (15- and 16-year-olds) as "fresh fish" on his Twitter account and also described a 16-year-old girl as a "bitch" after she reported older (12th grade) boys at her school making a sexualised ranking list of the younger girls. The post was seen as distasteful with over 400 Twitter users finding his post creepy and offensive.[90]
“”How cucked is Denmark
High school (12th grade) boys given a week suspension from school for making a ranked list of all the girls in the 10th grade (the fresh fish). All it took was one bitch to whine to the principal |
—Emil Kirkegaard[90] |
In response to his "fresh fish" comment, Kirkegaard replied with another bizarre comment comparing 10th graders to prison inmates:
“”Standard term used to refer to newcomers, eg prison inmates.
|
—Emil Kirkegaard[91] |
As users pointed out this was also a weird thing to say:
“”are u saying 10th graders should be treated like prison inmates?
|
—TrainAdmirer54[92] |
In a reply to his original post, Kirkegaard also wrote:
“”Why are fertility rates going down? It's a mystery!
|
—Emil Kirkegaard[93] |
Which caused many Twitter users to question Kirkegaard's interests:
“”they are high schoolers you creep
|
—punishedpogi[94] |
“”why are you thinking about the fertility of high school students...
|
—saturdayult[95] |
“”Why are you sexualizing minors???
|
—SintasSays[96] |
In response to criticism for his support for teenage pregnancies, Kirkegaard in January 2023 published a blog post slightly modifying his view on fertility to defend pregnancies as young as 18-21 year olds (university age) writing "So while we might not want to promote teenage pregnancy, we should certainly promote pregnancy among university students. So how about some trials of this? One could mandate (or incentivize with some bonus) infant simulator treatment at the final year of studies for female students to prime them for getting started after finishing their education."[97]
Defence of adults having sex with 15-year-old children
In another disturbing blog post published in January 2023, Emil Kirkegaard wrote:
From an evolutionary perspective, humans are a sexually reproducing species, so sexuality should -- must -- be targeted at the opposite sex. But furthermore, it should be targeting the right age too. So since female fertility is strongly age-dependent, men's targeting must be primarily of fecund females, so age 15-45 or so. Female targeting can be less age dependent, but should at least be 15+ (and that's what we see).[98]
Note most countries have age of consent laws above 15; the global average is 16 and the majority of countries worldwide prohibit sex with under-16s, while some under-18s.[99]
Views
White/ethnic nationalism
Kirkegaard rejects the notion that ethnic minorities born in European countries are natives and espouses white/ethnic nationalist views.
He has summarised his support for "ethno-nationalism" (a euphemism white nationalists often use) as follows:
In this sense, I am in favor of universal ethno-nationalism, in the same way that Dalai Lama described it. The Lama sees it well because China is currently taking over his homeland by settling it with Chinese people (I support Tibetan separatism, of course). This kind of settler slow-invasion strategy is of course well known in history (e.g. German version).[100]
Kirkegaard has claimed he wants to strictly control immigration because of ethnicity:
I think immigration levels should be quite low, so that Denmark remains Danish. There cannot be a Denmark without Danes. Culture and ethnicity are inherently intertwined.
Kirkegaard supports a total ban on refugees such as Syrians entering Denmark and favours repatriation by paying immigrants to leave:
It's a murky question about what to do with the immigrants already settled in many countries, as many of these are now second or third generation. I don't know what the right policy is. I generally support policies that pay them to leave. Recent immigrants who came as refugees should be sent home after their home troubles are over e.g. Syrian civil war/ISIL. In fact, they shouldn't be in Denmark to begin with. We should have guarded the borders with military if necessary. Denmark should support relief measures in this conflict by funding refugee camps away from the war zones. This is a far more effective solution to protecting civilizations.
One of his most notorious racist outbursts was telling Siobhan Benita to go "back home" to her country of origin despite the fact that she was born in London, England, and her father was born in Cornwall, England (Benita has mixed Anglo-Indian and Cornish ancestry).[101]
Kirkegaard is a fan of Enoch Powell's 'rivers of blood' speech:
“”Rivers of blood TLDR: UK conservative guy gives talk in 1968 about the direction of the demographic change in UK and the anti-British sentiments. Then gets canceled. Things also go pretty much as he said.
No hope for other countries. All predictable. Very blackpill stuff.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[102] |
He has promoted the neo-Nazi (self-described "fascist wave") band Xurious who made a song about Powell's controversial speech, describing their song as "excellent".[102]
Among his other notable racist outbursts was a tweet claiming black people, even those born in England, cannot be English or have any sense of an English identity, including culture. This tweet was reported by Racism Watchdog.[103][104]
Global-warming denial
Kirkegaard has posted he thinks global warming is a good thing for Denmark:
“”Global warming pretty good for Denmark, yes, unless that Gulf Stream thing is real. I saw someone claim it isn't. I didn't investigate in depth.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[105] |
While he recognises anthropogenic climate-change is happening — he is a denialist in the sense he ignores the negative effects of global-warming massively outweigh positives in his country. Typical of a denialist, Kirkegaard also downplays the seriousness of global-warming; he argues it isn't either a crisis nor major problem, but a "minor issue".[106][107]
“”[What's our biggest threat?] The right answer is demographics. Climate change is a minor issue.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[108] |
Kirkegaard says he doesn't take environmental activists who are very concerned about global warming seriously because they refuse to accept nuclear power as a solution.[109] This is an ad hominem fallacy.
Anti-feminism and sexism
Kirkegaard is a staunch anti-feminist and openly identifies as a sexist:
“”I support state funded one-way trips for Western feminists to Iran, Cambodia and any African country (not South Africa). When they get there, they can use their Female Empowerment to find enough money to get home (or beg their non-feminists friends/family).
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[110] |
—@KirkegaardEmil[111] |
“”Hilariously whiny paper can't figure out why women like men who act like men. "Benevolent Sexism" such an awesome term! I'll use that in my dating profile.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[112] |
—@KirkegaardEmil[113] |
One of the reasons Kirkegaard opposes feminism is because he thinks women should be at home, having babies, rather than at work or in higher education:
“”Punchline something like: while male over-education is socially wasteful, female over-education is literally the killer of civilization due to the fertility trade-off. One cannot continue a civilization with sub-replacement fertility.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[114] |
“”The most pernicious part of this, not mentioned, is the fertility cost from wasting women's time in school.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[115] |
Obsession with European fertility rates
Kirkegaard thinks governments across Europe should increase birth and fertility rates. Apparently, without more white children, Western civilisation is at risk!
“”Western governments should be experimenting with ways to boost fertility, especially if it can be done without decreasing female productivity too much.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[116] |
“”Aging pyramid of Germany shows that Germany needs... more children by increasing fertility of German women.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[117] |
“”We have too few kids not too many.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[118] |
“”Hungary doesn't have toxic feminism, or massive issues with immigrants, their biggest problem is national decline linked to low fertility.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[119] |
—@KirkegaardEmil[120] |
This view is a main goal of white nationalism to bring about more white babies, and Kirkegaard promotes this message alongside Anatoly Karlin and Tara McCarthy. Although Kirkegaard doesn't identify as a white nationalist because of the stigma attached to that label he instead prefers euphemisms such as wanting to save "Western civilisation":
“”Which way Western civilization? Stagnation or progress? No child left behind, time to shine!
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[121] |
“”The decay of Western civilization: German edition. You cannot keep a civilization without reproduction (or anti-aging tech)
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[122] |
Despite being obsessed with saving "Western civilisation" by breeding more white babies, Kirkegaard has no children of his own. He has claimed this is partly because he is a "busy professional" and suggests artifical wombs and other bio-technologies in the near future are the solution for men to have children who are too busy working full-time jobs:
“”Artificial wombs the final solution to boost fertility of busy professionals. A decade probably too early, but less than 2 decades for successful prototype. Lamb fetuses already up to 4 weeks (2017).
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[123] |
Kirkegaard thinks white families should be having at least four children and supports the pro-natalism policies of Viktor Orbán who promised that Hungarian women who have four or more children will never pay income tax again.[124][125]
Eugenics
Kirkegaard is a self-described eugenicist and claims that, without it, Western civilisation will be destroyed:
—@KirkegaardEmil[126] |
He has defended the He Jiankui affair concerning CRISP gene-editing of embryos.[127][128][129]
Kirkegaard also supports IVF and thinks governments should fund assisted reproductive technology:
“”I meant the state should sponsor practical research into IVF and other modern biotech eugenics/reproductive genetics (egg generation for instance), and then subsidize this so it is available for the population at large.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[130] |
He claims he only supports voluntary or incentive-based eugenics, not coercive.[131] However, this is contradicted by his support of CRISP gene-editing; embryos cannot consent and there's the same risk with CRISP of gene therapy when applied to newborn babies,[132][133] i.e. "inadvertently damaging alterations could thus be seen as harming the genomes of the others without their consent."[134] Furthermore, Kirkegaard has distastefully made a sympathetic tweet to sterilising the mentally ill:
“”Most eugenics was not Nazi extermination style. Most of it was sterilize dull and mentally ill people so they don't have (more) kids that others have to pay for and who will likely also cause more issues (and so on until regression towards the mean saves us).
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[135] |
Drugs
Kirkegaard describes himself as a "major proponent of drug legalization",[136] arguing even "cocain[sic] should be sold".[137]
Age of consent
Kirkegaard supports lowering age of consent. In 2012, he wrote he thinks age of consent is a "fiction" that should be lowered to 13 years old or lower if puberty begins first. Considering puberty begins on average as young as 11 in females, his comment is interpretable as wanting to lower the age of consent as young as that age:
For ‘age of consent’-fiction (people can consent at any age, even babies consent and disconsent to stuff happening to them!), perhaps a dual approach. Either 13 years old or start of puberty, whichever comes first.[1]
In 2013, Kirkegaard also wrote on a forum "It is a stupid idea to have rigid age of consent / sexual-minimum age laws."[138]
Anti-immigration
Kirkegaard is a capitalist and views immigration mainly in terms of net-economics such as fiscal contribution he links to intelligence.[139][140][141]
He therefore opposes who he considers "low skilled" and "low-IQ" immigrants as well as refugees into Western countries, namely Denmark and Sweden:
“”I would go a lot further into massive negative externalities of low skill immigrants, all of which is to say that demography is almost destiny.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[142] |
“”The Swedish non-miracle: refugees are net negatives (on average, NAXALT), and this is true even if adjusted for age/sex and time since immigration.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[143] |
“”No Swedish refugee miracle: large negative net contributions of immigrants.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[144] |
“”Have you ever written about how you think governments should deal with refugees from low IQ countries?
|
—@Rogerindividuo[145] |
“”...not let them in?
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[146] |
“”You can't take down the welfare state, but you can limit immigration. Besides, if you let immigrants in and did away with welfare, they would vote left parties in, and implement the welfare state again. You always end up paying for low tier people if you don't guard the border.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[147] |
“”If one imports a lot of low skilled workers, and then make their labor useless with automation, one will have a huge problem for welfare state -- larger than before importing them.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[148] |
Kirkegaard has argued with people who share similar anti-immigration views but for different reasons:
“”It's not primarily about values, but ability. Ability selection is key to any successful immigration policy.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[149] |
“”Liberal or illiberal, doesn't matter in itself. Thinking too much like a natural law libertarian. Net benefit matters. I'll take a Burka ban if we can avoid another 100k welfare immigrants. Burka ban, though silly, has essentially zero impact on my way of life.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[150] |
In other words, Kirkegaard doesn't much care about the values and beliefs of immigrants but their net-fiscal contribution and IQ. He is particularly hostile to Muslim immigrants; aside from denigrating them by calling them "low-intelligence" and "terrible", he equates Muslim immigrants in Sweden with "self-destruction" and claims they're much more crime-prone:
“”That's right. In addition to low intelligence, Muslims seem to have other traits that make them poor citizens in Western countries.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[151] |
“”Lol, I don't see anything fascist by calling out bizarre Swedish self-destruction of their country.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[152] |
“”I didn't do any work on refugees specifically, but sure, people from those countries have below average performance in every social indicator including crime (i.e. more criminal). There is also a link between terrorism and Muslims (work by Noah Carl).
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[153] |
“”The more Muslims in a country, the more extreme they become.
|
—KirkegaardEmil[154] |
“”EmilK takes #UncomfortableData to new level by quantifying cuck. Westerners underestimate the extent Muslims leech them for welfare.
|
—@i_aver[155] |
“”At least, Danes do. Would be interesting to replicate in Sweden, UK, Czech. Presumably Czechs less cucked.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[156] |
Kirkegaard purports to produce scientific data showing Muslim immigrants are low net-fiscal contributors and more crime-prone. However these studies have been criticised for serious methodological flaws and confirmation bias; Noah Carl, Kirkegaard's colleague was sacked from his job at Cambridge University for publishing anti-Muslim papers in the academically dodgy OpenPsych journals that Kirkegaard publishes. Kirkegaard has had his manuscripts rejected for peer-review when submitted to mainstream journals.[157]
Ableism
Kirkegaard intensely dislikes people with mental health issues, developmental disorders, and disabilities despite the fact that he is supposedly autistic himself. Some of his friends including Bo Winegard have said they think he is on the autistic spectrum[158] while Kirkegaard says he has "natural autism", and wears an "autism is my super power" t-shirt.[159] His ableism therefore could stem from psychological projection and/or internalized discrimination.
Nevertheless, on his social media Kirkegaard regularly posts ableist language such as calling people "retards":
“”Executive committee is a bunch of retards too.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[160] |
—@KirkegaardEmil[161] |
“”Github is going full retard: "Diversity and Inclusion at GitHub".
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[162] |
It is often the case that individuals Kirkegaard attacks as being mentally ill for merely holding different views contrary to his don't have any mental-health issues:
“”...apparently we all have mental illnesses to the point where we must be blocked lol.

He has also falsely accused an individual of having mental-illnesses they don't have on his website.[164]
Furthermore, Kirkegaard labels academic fields he disagrees with (e.g. Whiteness Studies) as being for mentally ill people:
“”There's entire academic fields for mentally ill people writing about the terrors of Whiteness.
|
—KirkegaardEmil[165] |
Kirkegaard argues transgender individuals are mentally ill,[166] however this claim is incorrect.[167][168]
He argues against individuals who have mental illness from having children:
“”Think twice before having kids with mentally ill people. ~15 times increased mortality from opioid abusers ~ times for amphetamines/cocaine
~6 times for anorexics. Only ~3 for being retarded. Seriously.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[169] |
In February 2020, Kirkegaard published a pre-print of a paper arguing mental illness is significantly more common among individuals with left-wing views than conservatives.[170] The paper was later published in Mankind Quarterly, not a reputable, peer-reviewed journal. Kirkegaard's confirmation bias results in him ignoring data showing a wide-range of mental disorders, narcissistic personality disorder, Machiavellianism and psychopathy — the Dark triad of personality traits — have highest prevalence among individuals with right-wing, especially anti-immigration, political views.[171][172][173][174] Kirkegaard's paper has ended up referenced and promoted on far-right and conservative blogs including VDARE.[175][176]
Kirkegaard now references his own paper having "proved" white liberals are crazy:
“”White libs crazy, science confirms.
You wouldn't wanna be a science denier, now would you?
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[177] |
.
Aside from liberals, Kirkegaard has described SJWs, Antifa, Marxists, feminists and pretty much anyone left-of-center in politics as insane.[citation NOT needed]
Kirkegaard claims to block insane people on social media:
“”I block dishonest or insane people. Both of these qualify for one or the other.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[178] |
Hilariously someone then asked why he associates himself with unhinged people such as Davide Piffer who claims to have psychic powers:
“”You say that you block insane people, but don't you still work with Davide Piffer after he claimed to have psychic powers.
|
—@iamChalzz[179] |
Kirkegaard is therefore rather selective who he blocks as insane. He has further defended Piffer's batshit crazy Uri Geller-type beliefs.[180]
In May 2020 Kirkegaard began describing vegans and vegetarians as mentally ill:
“”Mental illness and the left: vegan edition.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[181] |
While a meta-analysis of studies[182] has shown vegans have a much higher risk of depression and anxiety than meat-eaters, Kirkegaard ignores the vegetarian-depression link is possibly the result of vegans simply "being aware of the cruelties of the world and this is more depressing than living in a state of ignorant bliss."[183] Instead, Kirkegaard argues:
“”The prior is always that it's mostly or entirely genetic confounding via common cause.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[184] |
Transphobia
Kirkegaard is a transphobe and has described transgender individuals as "bad", "mentally ill" and "insane":
“”...okay to point out obvious truths denied by PC elite such as Muslims are terrible immigrants to get, there's only 2 sexes, trannies are mentally ill etc.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[185] |
“”Replace with your favorite surpressed truth (race iq, trannies bad, women irrational, dysgenics real, etc)
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[186] |
“”Do transgender people seem insane to you? Well.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[187] |
Homophobia
Kirkegaard wants to end homosexuality in the future through eugenics by selecting for heterosexual children:
“”Parents will still select against gayness. They'd be silly not to. It's related to mental illness, less happiness, problems in dating, many places social disapproval, shorter lifespan and so on.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[188] |
Studies have indeed shown there is a higher risk of mental disorders (such as depression) among homosexuals than heterosexuals,[189] but Kirkegaard ignores data that suggests this is because of institutionalised prejudice and social exclusion (even within families). Instead, he doubtfully claims the higher risk of mental illnesses is because of genetics:
“”The relationship between gayness and various poor outcomes has to do mostly with biology, not social factors. Society used to be very hostile to gays, now it's the opposite, but associations stay the same, suggests different causes. (No surprise there.)
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[190] |
In a 2017 blog post, Kirkegaard said he supported gay rights but then attempted to link homosexuality with pedophilia by misinterpreting the research of sexologist Ray Blanchard.[191] In 2020, he expressed surprise that homosexuality was not related to pedophilia "after all".[192] Kirkegaard appears oblivious to the fact that Blanchard had already clarified (in 2011) that his research showed that gay men were not more likely to be pedophiles than straight men.[193][194]
In January 2023, Kirkegaard authored a pseudoscientific article claiming homosexuality is a mental illness and promoted his article on Twitter.[11]
Islamophobia
Kirkegaard is a staunch Islamophobe; he has described "Muslims as terrible immigrants to get",[195] and his tweets do not draw a distinction between ordinary law-abiding Muslim citizens and Muslim extremists. For example, he has described Allah as a "fire god" because of an arson incident:
—@KirkegaardEmil[196] |
He has described the entire Islamic religion and Muhammad as paedophiles:
“”Some sad stats on pedophilia and Muslims. Mohammad set the precedent, so I guess the followers of Mohammad act as him.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[197] |
He uses the Islamophobic #swedistan hashtag on Twitter.[198]
Racism and xenophobia
Kirkegaard identifies as a "moderate racist:"
“”Well, they have literally redefined the word so that racism is an empirical claim that's true in moderate form.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[199] |
However, he has posted crude racism about black people; for example, in his opinion their neighbourhoods are bad to live in:
“”So, e.g. areas with lots of blacks are (generally) poor/crime prone/low trust because there's more blacks and blacks are poor/criminal/low trust. It's not the mixture of people per se, but their relative proportions. Different causal mechanism.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[200] |
He has criticised the academic John Hawks for denouncing racism.[201]
Kirkegaard sometimes equates racism with being non-politically correct:
“”
It's reverse skin in the game, actually. If they don't publish more PC findings, or publish unPC findings, they risk their career. The incentive is towards PC findings. If truth is racist, and you can't publish racist stuff, then you can't publish true stuff about these matters. |
—@KirkegaardEmil[199]
|
And thinks the word "racism" is more or less redundant because of political correctness:
“”When whites talk about race, they are racist. When they don't, they are also racist. Usually.
Groundbreaking research here..
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[202] |
He thinks white women are discriminated against:
“”UK priorities: detain and ban 2 internet journalist girls, while ignoring massive rape ring of their own daughters by immigrants. I guess their priorities are quite consistent: Fuck White Women.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[203] |
Kirkegaard has praised Einstein not for his scientific accomplishments, but his alleged xenophobic[204] views:
—@KirkegaardEmil[205]
|
“”
Do you ever worry that overtly racist posts will undermine your credibility as a supposedly disinterested scientist? |
—@vince_adultman[205]
|
“”
There are basically no disinterested scientists. Everybody except extreme autists have an agenda. It is an unavoidable part of being human. The point of science is to reduce the agendas influence on scientific results by making the process resistant to them (and other errors). |
—@KirkegaardEmil[205]
|
“”
I wasn't talking about terminology, for the record. I was referring to the fact that you were half-ironically praising Einstein for racist remarks. |
—@vince_adultman[205]
|
Kirkegaard has been accused of antisemitism:
“”Only @KirkegaardEmil would proudly advertise support for the author of "Early Jews and the Rise of Jewish Money Power" and "Swindlers of the Crematoria" as a list of "who's cool in behavioral genetics and IQ." He that lieth down with dogs shall wake up with fleas.
|
—@ent3c[206] |
Although he denies this.[207] Nevertheless, he has made a bunch of controversial tweets critical of "Hollywood Jews":
“”
When one protected group hates another. Time to battle over who's the bigger victim! |
—@KirkegaardEmil[208] |
“”
Well, in the metoo vs. Hollywood Jews, looks like metoo won. |
—@KirkegaardEmil[208]
|
“”
When ratwiki[sic] can't figure out whether something counts as anti-Semitic[sic] or not. Everybody knows that Jews are highly over-represented in creative wordy stuff. Hollywood Jews is an obvious term for those in that particular area. |
—@KirkegaardEmil[209] |
“”
While the phrase Hollywood Jew maybe[sic] accurate, it does seem to be generally used in a nefarious manner. |
—@rasalghulvc[209] |
“”
Nice try. But people use that term not just to highlight Jewish creativity in cinema, but mainly to denounce Jewish influence in popular culture as being agenda-driven, self-interested, and anti-Christian. |
—@aschops[209] |
Kirkegaard has claimed anyone who doubts his racist views concerning race and intelligence must have "destructive immigration policies":
“”Whether intentional or not, the effect of this denialism & doubt about race and IQ is to further the destructive immigration policies.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[210] |
Relation to the alt-right
The vast majority of Kirkegaard's political views overlap with the alt-right and white nationalism, but he rejects these labels for alt-center.[211]
“”Haha. I'm not much of a White Nationalist. They WNs call me cuck and IQ nationalist!
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[212] |
In reality, posters on the neo-Nazi forum Stormfront see Kirkegaard as a white nationalist[213] and promote his writings on race.[214]
Kirkegaard uses white nationalism slogans on his social media:
—@KirkegaardEmil[215] |
He also denies being far-right which he blatantly is:
“”I'd like to point out that I am a heterodox/alt centrist, not far right in politics.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[216] |
Despite claiming to be heterodox, most of Kirkegaard's views are standard alt-right and he uses their terminology and memes — so he's actually boring and unoriginal:
“”As for using 'alt-right terminology', whatever man. These people have invented a lot of good terms for describing things going on. I'm not the type to avoid using words just because they were invented by the 'wrong people'.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[205]
|
Kirkegaard has defended the alt-right Unite the Right rally and claims they somehow weren't far-right extremists:
“”Yet somehow the media and academics are obsessed with them [Unite the Right]. To a left wing extremist, everybody looks like a far right extremist.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[217] |
“”But they really are far-right extremists. So bad example to illustrate your point.
|
—@greenrd[218] |
On his blog he lists his political views.[219] Many of them are conservative such as strong border controls, opposing foreign aid and anti-affirmative action:
- Immigration
Immigration to welfare states should be tightly controlled, including by cognitive ability tests, language tests and ability to find work. It should also be limited in scope, so as to avoid the formation of parallel societies. Given these policies, I don’t see the reason to have race discrimination in immigration policies. Recent immigrants that strongly under-perform (very crime-prone, living off benefits for decades and the like) should be sent home. If it is ethically questionable to send them home (e.g. >1 generation), then they should be offered money to go somewhere else/home. It is cheaper to pay them a small sum up front than paying in the long term for them and their descendants.
- Affirmative action
There should be no affirmative action for any groups, including racial and sex groups. Lobby organizations for these groups should not receive public funding.
- Foreign aid
Economic foreign aid does not work and should be stopped. To improve the conditions of poor countries, one should focus on making technological advances cheaply available to the less bright countries; free of intellectual monopolies. Probably some of the lowest hanging fruit are disease extermination programs.
That said, he does hold some progressive views, although his right-wing positions largely outweigh the former.
Kirkegaard is a member of the right-wing Technologipartiet whose website claims it opposes multiculturalism, opposes gender equality laws and wants to decommission the Ministry of Gender Equality in Denmark.[220] The Technologipartiet promotes nuclear power, "including experiments with thorium-based versions and fusion when the time comes" and wants to avoid "wasting money on expensive renewable energy". One of its strangest policies is providing state aid for embryo selection or "eugenics biotechnology".
Kirkegaard supports a number of right-wing populist to far-right parties, including the Sweden Democrats.[221]
He has been described as a "figure on the radical right fringe".[222]
Kirkegaard claims with flimsy evidence that right-wing people are more moral:
“”Generally speaking, right-wingers are more moral people. True both for trivial stuff like swearing, but also cheating rates in relationships etc.
|
—@KirkegaardEmil[223] |
Alt-right
Further evidence he is alt-right, include:
- His usage of alt-right glossary terms in his tweets, e.g. Cuck,[224][225][226] Kek,[227] Red Pill[228] and Based.[229]
- His support for HBD/race realism.[230][231]
- His support for Donald Trump.[232]
- His anti-feminism.
- Calls anyone who disagrees with him an SJW.
- His support of "biotech eugenics (embryo selection, gene editing etc.)".[233][note 2]
- Shares alt-right memes on his social media profiles.[234][235]
- Being obsessed with having white babies,[236] writing "Western governments should be experimenting with ways to boost fertility".[237]
- He has described a promotional video of the alt-right as "nicely done".[238]
- He believes in the "anti-racist is a code word for anti-white" mantra invented by white nationalists.[239]
- He wrote an essay "Is miscegenation bad for your kids", that argues "behavioral/mental problems of multirace persons".[240][241]
- Has appeared on white supremacist Tara McCarthy's YouTube channel for a discussion about eugenics.[242]
- He claims black people cannot be culturally English and sparked a race debate reported by Racism Watchdog.[243][244]
- He's anti-LGBT, for example calling transgender people "mentally ill".[245]
- He's a fan of Counter-Currents, a neo-Nazi book publisher owned by Greg Johnson.[246]
- He seems to have defended the alt-right Unite the Right.[247]
- In October 2018, Kirkegaard changed his Twitter profile picture to the NPC meme used by the alt-right and white nationalists.[248][249]
- Kierkegaard described sexual preference for butts as "Africanized sexual culture"[250]
Kirkegaard is listed as a member of the "All Right Social Network", that also includes white supremacists such as Richard Spencer, Brittany Pettibone, Patrick Little and Angelo John Gage.[251]
Controversies
Nazi sympathies
In 2013, there was a campaign by Danish Projekt Antifa to expel Kirkegaard from the Piratpartiet (Pirate Party) after they discovered he had ranted about "low IQ immigrants" on the Piratpartiet internet forum. Furthermore, on his Facebook profile, Kirkegaard posted a photo of himself next to someone performing a Nazi-salute, while smiling, and writing an insensitive comment about being the Führer. Antifa also found evidence that Kirkegaard had tried to defend the cooperation of the Piratpartiet with the neo-Nazi Party of the Danes, founded by Daniel Carlsen; an article appeared on the Project Antifa website describing Kirkegaard as a "Nazi Sympathiser" and attempted to expel him from the Piratpartiet:
Emil Kirkegaard's approach to issues about racism and nazism, you may find only in neo-Nazi groups. At the Pirate Party's forum, he writes "If one's immigration consists primarily of low intelligent people, then it will be very, very expensive for the country. And that's exactly what we see in the western countries now." Both Emil Kirkegaard and several other party activists defend cooperation with the Party of the Danes. At the same time, Emil Kirkegaard's Facebook can see a photo where an unknown person is in the background, while Emil Kirkegaard is smiling at the camera. Emil Kirkegaard's comment reads: "The Führer is being hailed/saluted". (English translation of Danish)[252]
In response to the Projekt Antifa article, Kirkegaard has claimed the photo of the Nazi salute was a joke.Do You Believe That?
In April 2019, Kirkegaard published a blog article on his website "On Nazism and Jews" claiming he is an anti-authoritarian and "not very supportive of Nazism, and fairly pro-Jewish as far as HBDers go."[253] However, his claim to be an anti-authoritarian is contradicted by his opposition to civil liberties of immigrants, especially if they're Muslim, while his claim of not supporting Nazism or fascism is contradicted by his support for far-right political groups, including the fascist All-Polish Youth. While the All Polish Youth attempt to cosmetically distance themselves from Nazism by anti-swastika banners, the group is antisemitic and ultra-nationalist.
Kirkegaard also claims, he has "often been critical of Hitler and Nazis publicly". However, these anti-Nazi comments that have all suddenly appeared were only made in response to this RationalWiki article that was made in 2016 and don't predate this page.[254] Like almost everything Kirkegaard says, his claims are bullshit.
Incest
—Emil Kirkegaard[255] |
In 2008, Kirkegaard wrote a blog post entitled "Why is incest prohibited?", arguing that incest should be legalised.[255] (translated from Danish):
In my fight against the Danish sexual morality, the time has come for incest. Incest has traditionally been banned almost universally, except for ancient Egypt. In the case of law, everything that is not illegal is legal, because therefore one cannot make an argument from ignorance. I can therefore just ask, why is incest prohibited? And if no good reason can be given, then incest should be legalized. Now, some readers may think that I want to make pedophilia legal, but this is a misconception. I just don't think there's good reason why incest between two people should be banned. There are misunderstandings when I am therefore accused of legalizing rape, pedophilia etc.
The historical reason why many religions prohibit incest is probably that there was no birth control at that time (maybe you didn't even know that you could withdraw in time, ie it was the sperm that makes the outcome). It had been observed that when two people who were in a relationship with each other had children, then they had difficult children and therefore it was quite impractical for society.
We do not have these problems nowadays, but we also have an increased focus on freedom. Therefore, I ask - why is incest prohibited?
I did a little survey and it indicates that it is the so-called yuck factor that is at stake again. An unfounded feeling that something is just wrong. Of course, such a reason is not good enough for people who do not have this feeling not to take this action - otherwise we should ban many of our goods; pornography, free-thinking, dog-eating, etc.
In November 2009,[256] Kirkegaard mentioned again his defence of incest:
“”However, incest does no harm nowadays and should therefore not be illegal. This I have written about before.
|
In 2016, Kirkegaard posted on Twitter that incest "for non-reproduction" should be included as an example of "utilitarians getting things right before society as a whole."[257]
OkCupid doxxing
In 2016, Kirkegaard published the data of nearly 70,000 OkCupid users, as a study in one of his own pseudojournals.[258][259]
Kirkegaard claims he was publishing already public information, but this is disputed by others who argue the information was "semi-private":
Moreover, it remains unclear whether the OkCupid profiles scraped by Kirkegaard’s team really were publicly accessible. Their paper reveals that initially they designed a bot to scrape profile data, but that this first method was dropped because it was “a decidedly non-random approach to find users to scrape because it selected users that were suggested to the profile the bot was using.” This implies that the researchers created an OkCupid profile from which to access the data and run the scraping bot. Since OkCupid users have the option to restrict the visibility of their profiles to logged-in users only, it is likely the researchers collected—and subsequently released—profiles that were intended to not be publicly viewable. The final methodology used to access the data is not fully explained in the article, and the question of whether the researchers respected the privacy intentions of 70,000 people who used OkCupid remains unanswered.[260]
$200 bounty
In response to the firing of Bo Winegard from his job, Kirkegaard posted he would pay a $200 "bounty" to anyone who can identify a pseudonymous Twitter user called AfroSapiens (an anti-racist activist) who allegedly sent emails to Winegard's university informing them about his racist tweets.[261] Kirkegaard claims legal action should be taken against this person.Do You Believe That?
ISIR 2022 conference controversy
On 13 July 2022, geneticist Abdel Abdellaoui a scheduled keynote speaker at the ISIR conference (to be held at the University of Vienna) cancelled attending after complaining about Emil Kirkegaard being allowed to attend as a speaker. Abdellaoui described Kirkegaard as a "careless racist lunatic" and noted he lacks academic credentials.[262] In response to Abdellaoui's complaint, there was an online petition to prevent Kirkegaard from attending the conference. On 16 July 2022, Abdellaoui confirmed Kirkegaard was removed on the speaking list and therefore said he would now himself attend the conference.[263]
In a blog post, Abdellaoui further explained:
“”Two weeks before the ISIR conference, the preliminary speaker program was shared with the speakers. I noticed that one of the scheduled speakers was a notorious
individual [Emil Kirkegaard], known for an unhealthy obsession for trying to prove that race differences in IQ and other social traits were due to inborn and immutable genetic differences. Besides a reputation for sloppy scientific work in dubious journals, he was also well known for an obnoxious social media presence, regularly posting messages and memes denigrating a wide range of marginalized groups. This behavior has garnered him a large following of, largely anonymous, online fans. He is a leading figure and major contributor to the bad reputation of intelligence and genetics research. On top of this reputation, this individual is not part of any credible research program, PhD program, or university, which made it all the more surprising to me that this individual was invited to speak at the same academic conference as me. I decided to publicly cancel my talk, as I did not want to be associated with this individual. I did not want his reputation to negatively affect mine, or my reputation to positively affect his. I felt obligated, both as a scientist and a second generation immigrant (I’ve seen him specifically target my own minority group as well), to distance myself from this malevolent force. Eventually, my action caused multiple other complaints, including a student petition, after which the ISIR board decided to remove this person from the speaker list, after which I re-joined the conference.[264]
|
Abdellaoui's decision to cancel his talk because of Kirkegaard was supported by Richard Haier.
According to Noah Carl, "an individual sympathetic to Kirkegaard booked a room at a nearby hotel, where Kirkegaard was able to give his talk to a group of around twenty people including some senior academics and members of ISIR."[266] Carl's article on the "ISIR Vienna affair" is highly biased. Carl is a close friend of Kirkegaard who is associated with his OpenPsych pseudojournals.
ISIR 2024 conference - the return of Kirkegaard
On July 31, 2024 the Twitter/X account RiotIQ, which is associated with Russell T. Warne[267], tweeted: "Last presentation before lunch is @KirkegaardEmil, with the topic of inputing IQ data into existing data using the MMPI."[268] The tweet include an image of Kirkegaard standing before a projected slide that reads "Imputing intelligence data into existing datasets using the MMPI" and underneath: "Emil Kirkegaard Arthur Jensen Institute." The tweet was soon deleted[269] but a screen cap was made and the tweet was archived.
So far no explanation for Kirkegaard's appearance has been given by ISIR. There is no online evidence for the existence of the "Arthur Jensen Institute."
Public Square Magazine controversy 2023
On March 6 2023, Public Square Magazine which describes itself as the "most read non-official Latter-day Saint periodical" published an article sympathetic to a paper co-authored by Emil Kirkegaard and Edward Dutton in 2022 which argued "Latter-day Saints in the USA show slightly positive selection for intelligence, whereas all other religious groups examined did not robustly differ from the average."[270] Three weeks later the article was retracted and deleted with the following added note by the editor:
Editor’s note: The article has been removed. The research shared in it was conducted by individuals with no known connection to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While the study mentioned in this article is not white supremacist in nature, it was discovered that their research is deeply informed by white supremacist beliefs.[271]
Complaints were sent to the magazine editor about not only Kirkegaard's white supremacist beliefs but controversial writings on pedophilia and legalising child pornography.[272][273]

Often these are single-purpose accounts that exclusively edit on topics like race and intelligence, racial classification and bios of related researchers, like Linda Gottfredson or Helmuth Nyborg. Some have direct ties with racist journals or organizations, like Mankind Quarterly editor Gerhard Meisenberg. Emil Kirkegaard, who edits frequently under the username Deleet, is a research fellow at Richard Lynn’s Ulster Institute for Social research and the co-founder of the online pseudojournal OpenPsych.

|
—Le temps, discussing Kirkegaard's pseudoscience |
Kirkegaard identifies as a proponent of HBD,[276] i.e. racialism and has described himself as a "race realist",[277] a term coined by J. Philippe Rushton that is adopted by white nationalists like David Duke. His website contains posts on race and eugenics.[278][279][280] Against the scientific consensus that race is not an accurate way to describe or analyse human biological variation, Kirkegaard erroneously argues human races are valid biological constructs (as "genetic clusters") and makes PRATTs such as quoting Lewontin's Fallacy:
I think one can just read the various existing defenses of race realism if one is curious. The page you link to is well-sourced but an exercise in semantics and irrelevance. E.g. section Genetic evidence: Race does not predict human variation well presents results irrelevant to the title, it is well accepted that most variation is within the major racial groups. It does not follow from this that the between group variation is unimportant. Indeed, even very small differences can make a large difference, as people with mutations in e.g. SRY can report. It does not matter so much to me whether these groups are called races, genetic clusters, biogeographical ancestry or whatever (the most common euphemism in medical genetics).[281]
Kirkegaard doesn't just argue for human races but maintains there is a racial hierarchy with different "tiers" of races based on average intelligence. For example, he considers Indians to be a "lower tier".[282] He argues mean group differences in intelligence are mostly the result of genetic factors. For example, writing "The hereditarian hypothesis is almost certainly true.[283] In fact, he has gone as far as arguing "100% genetic for the USA black white gap".[284] Nonsurprisingly, no peer-reviewed science journals would publish this pseudoscience and so Kirkegaard was left submitting a paper to the Mankind Quarterly.[285] On his website, Kirkegaard recommends outdated racialist literature such as John Baker's Race (1974) and in 2015 positively reviewed the far-right Metapedia article on race and intelligence.[286][287] He alleges a left-wing bias in academia that downplays heritability of race and IQ.[288]
Kirkegaard is permanently blocked from editing Wikipedia,[289] having misused the wiki to spread his racist nonsense. He has since whined about Wikipedia deleting his pseudoscientific writings on race.[290]
London Conference on Intelligence
Another major organiser of the LCI is Emil Kirkegaard, who has attended all four conferences and even designed the website. Although he refers to himself as a “polymath” and Thompson describes him as a "very bright young guy", Kirkegaard is not an academic. His highest qualification is a Bachelor’s in linguistics. Having dropped out of his Masters degree, instead preferring to be "self-taught in various subjects", Kirkegaard now runs OpenPsych, a platform for non-peer reviewed psychology papers, along with Davide Piffer of Mankind Quarterly. Piffer is a fellow LCI-speaker, and was praised by Richard Lynn as having done "brilliant work identifying the genes responsible for race differences in intelligence."
Authors on OpenPsych include Kevin MacDonald, described by the Southern Poverty Law Centre as “the neo-Nazi movement’s favourite academic”, who praised Anders Breivik as a “serious political thinker with a great many insights and some good practical ideas on strategy.” John Fuerst, a fellow of the UISR, spoke at LCI 2015 and 2016, and frequently collaborates with Kirkegaard on OpenPsych. As well as writing various blogs, which he describes as “race realist”, , he also frequently posts antisemitic conspiracy theories on Facebook. When questioned about his popularity on the neo-Nazi forum Stormfront, he stated that he had “no beef against… neo-Nazis."
Kirkegaard’s own personal blog is home to topics such as "Is miscegenation bad for your kids?" and how one could empirically verify a Jewish conspiracy. His Facebook features alt-right promotional videos and once featured a friend’s Nazi salute with the caption "There will be an heir to the Führer."
By far the most disturbing of part of Kirkegaard’s internet presence, however, is a blog-post in which he justifies child rape. He states that a ‘compromise’ with paedophiles could be: “having sex with a sleeping child without them knowing it (so, using sleeping medicine. If they dont notice it is difficult to see how they cud be harmed, even if it is rape. One must distinguish between rape becus the other was disconsenting (wanting to not have sex), and rape becus the other is not consenting, but not disconsenting either.” He qualifies this with a note that “bodily harm” would undermine this justification, and especially “with small children since their bodily openings are not large enuf [sic] for a regular sized male penis. To avoid this one shud [sic] not penetrate.”
Kirkegaard’s reputation as a scientific advocate for neo-Nazism was increased last April [2017] when he appeared on Tara McCarthy’s ‘Reality Calls’ to discuss “the future of eugenics.” McCarthy was banned from YouTube for alleging a Jewish conspiracy to commit “white genocide”, supports deporting naturalized citizens and “killing them if they resist”, and said that she hopes “zero” migrants crossing the Mediterranean “make it alive”.[291]
Ulster Institute for Social Research
On Facebook,[292] Kirkegaard says he is a research fellow at the Ulster Institute for Social Research. This institute founded by Richard Lynn has received grants from the far-right Pioneer Fund and publishes the racist pseudoscience journal Mankind Quarterly, described as white supremacist by SPLC.[note 3]

Kirkegaard is the owner of the Arthur Robert Jensen memorial site dedicated to the white nationalist Arthur Jensen.[293] Kirkegaard tries to portray Jensen as an "objective scientist" who fought against political bias and censorship when in reality Jensen was politically biased and far-right (for example, sitting on the editorial board of a neo-Nazi journal and was interviewed by Jared Taylor in 1992). Jensen remains most infamous for his controversial writings on race and intelligence, and Kirkegaard has described him as his main influence.
OpenPsych
OpenPsych is a pseudoscience factory-farm, and Noah Carl is its prize hen. He is its second most prolific contributor, a member of the review team and its only Russell Group academic. Half of Carl’s OpenPsych reviews have come from just two people, one of whom, Emil Kirkegaard, has no educational qualifications beyond a Bachelor’s degree in linguistics, according to his own LinkedIn page. Kirkegaard also happens to be the founder of OpenPsych.
Kirkegaard is a maverick when it comes to scientific ethics. In 2016, he and Julius Bjerrekær (OpenPsych’s third most prolific author, behind Kirkegaard and Carl) were responsible for what one social scientist described as “without a doubt one of the most grossly unprofessional, unethical and reprehensible data releases I have ever seen.” The two had leaked the private data of 70,000 OKCupid users, including their personal sexual preferences.[294]
Many of Carl’s articles have been published on the OpenPsych website set up by Kirkegaard to circumvent the peer review system. Its editors and referees are almost all associated with the far-right and often do not even have qualifications in the fields they are responsible for overseeing. Over half of the articles on the site are authored or co-authored by Kirkegaard.
The co-founder of OpenPsych is Davide Piffer—another pseudo-scientific researcher who once claimed to have psychic powers—who is based at the Ulster Institute for Social Research (UISR), established by Richard Lynn. UISR is backed by Lynn’s Pioneer Fund and publishes the equally irreputable Mankind Quarterly, which regularly prints Kirkegaard’s writings. What we have here is a network of right-wing ideologues who set up what have rightly been called “pseudo journals” through which they publish and “review” one another’s tracts.[295]
Despite Kirkegaard's insistence otherwise,[296][297][298] OpenPsych and its journals are pseudojournals: they do not use traditional peer review and are filled with Kirkegaard's publications. For example, OpenPsych show typical signs of a pseudojournal: a high percentage of content written by one of the journal's creator, Kirkegaard himself.
As of 13 January 2018:
- Kirkegaard wrote for 18 out of the 32 papers in Open Differential Psychology[299]
- Kirkegaard wrote for 1 out of the 7 papers in Open Behavioral Genetics[300]
- Kirkegaard wrote for 8 out of the 11 papers in Open Quantitative Sociology & Political Science[301]
Kirkegaard was an author for 27 of 50 total papers, or 54%.
According to Kirkegaard, his journals do have peer review:[297]
OpenPsych journals do have peer review. In fact, they have open peer review meaning that literally anyone can see the review of any paper. For instance, look in the post-publication forum for the reviews of all published papers. I think this is a much better and certainly more transparent review than journals ordinarily practice. My status as editor has little impact on this system, since editors do not have rejection powers in these journals. Nor can they select reviewers at whim. Rather all in-house reviewers can review any paper they desire. The role of the editor is mainly to smooth things by asking reviewers whether they have time to review this or that submission.
However, this is an argument by assertion. The aforementioned process falls under the umbrella of open peer review.
Mankind Quarterly
Kirkegaard is the domain owner and webmaster of the controversial racist journal Mankind Quarterly. In recent years, the journal has tried to repackage itself as doing "normal science" on race.[302] But this is bullshit and nobody is fooled because the journal continues to publish racist woo from Edward Dutton (its past editor), John Fuerst, Richard Lynn and Gerhard Meisenberg. You can find important reports from Kirkegaard and his co-authors in this journal such as one 2023 paper that reveals, using data (hearsay) from a small Internet survey of Americans claiming to be sex workers, that black men have larger penises and white men prefer kinkier sex.[303] This is apparently what we get when his interest in racialism meets his interest in pornography.
Self-citation
Kirkegaard has been criticized for inflating his h-index and other citation metrics by heavily citing his own papers. For example, as of February 2019, all 38 citations to his most cited paper were self-citations (i.e. papers authored or co-authored by Kirkegaard himself).[304] Of the 404 Google Scholar citations (as of February 12, 2019) to his papers, 316 of them (78%!) were self-citations. Many of the exceptions are citations to the OkCupid paper he co-authored in 2016, and the citations are typically talking about controversial issues in data science (using the privacy-violating paper as an example).[305]
Doing business in Wyoming
On May 24, 2024, the Wyoming-based Cowboy State Daily ran an article about Kirkegaard entitled "White Supremacist Who Wants Legal Child Porn Doing Business Through Wyoming." The article begins: "A globally recognized Danish white supremacist is doing business in Wyoming, or at least through the Cowboy State as a registered LLC here. Emil Kirkegaard has been accused by many of using scientific racism as a base for his open-access research journal website where he’s published numerous articles supporting a basis for biological differences between races, ethnicities and immigrant groups on measures such as crime and IQ."
According to the article, "Wyoming has some of the most private business filing laws in the country and the cheapest rates to file, which allows people to easily cloak their identities when filing with the state."[306]
Human Diversity Foundation
In October 2024, the Guardian ran an article about the Human Diversity Foundation. (HDF), focusing on the $1.3 million donation received from Andrew Conru.[307] [note 4]
The article relied heavily on a report by the organization Hope not Hate. called Race Science Inc. Undercover in The Human Diversity Foundation, the million-dollar race science company.[309]
The report presents findings from an individual who infiltrated racist and neo-Nazi organizations to investigate the world of race pseudoscience. Emil Kirkegaard was found to be a key player in that world, especially through his ownership of the Human Diversity Foundation. HDF has a research and a media branch according to its organization chart, presented at a meeting that the HOPE not Hate infiltrator attended. Aporia Magazine is part of HDF's media branch. In addition to the money from Conru, HDF has received the remaining assets of the Pioneer Fund thanks to Kirkegaard's connection to Richard Lynn. Human Diversity Foundation is essentially a rebranding of the Pioneer Fund.
(Human Diversity Foundation) was incorporated in November 2022 by Emil Kirkegaard under his legal name William Engman. Kirkegaard was close to Richard Lynn, the late president of the Pioneer Fund. Both were integral to the publication of Mankind Quarterly, Pioneer’s pseudo-academic journal. Lynn used to be the publication’s editor-in-chief and until last year Kirkegaard was listed as the public registrant of the domain name for its website.
Although the Pioneer Fund’s resources have diminished in recent years, it still has assets of $277,873, according to its most recent filings. Matthew Frost explained to our reporter that HDF has “appropriated” the remaining funds. “It was left to Emil and now that becomes part of our organisation,” he said. “It’s good. It’ll pay a few wages for a couple of years.” Pioneer’s latest accounts have yet to reflect this change. Their most recent filings were submitted in May 2024 for the previous tax year. The only recipient of funds for 2023 was Edward Dutton, a British scientific racism YouTuber, who we can also reveal is on HDF’s payroll. Strangely, the charity still lists Richard Lynn as the president despite his death 10 months prior.
First published in 1961, Mankind Quarterly was later edited by the British neo-Nazi, Roger Pearson HDF has incorporated the Pioneer Fund’s old operations. In private conversations with our infiltrator, HDF leaders said “we have” Mankind Quarterly. On an internal slide deck prepared by the company, Mankind Quarterly was similarly listed as part of HDF’s operations.[309]
In addition to Conru, Human Diversity Foundation has connections to at least two other right-wing plutocrats, Peter Thiel and Marc Andreessen.
Thiel:
Before HDF was registered as a company, Peter Thiel, the billionaire co-founder of PayPal and early Facebook investor, met with some of its key figures. In 2019, he flew Emil Kirkegaard out for a one-hour meeting to discuss his work. He has also met with Noal Carl, Aporia’s editor.
Describing his meeting with Thiel, Kirkegaard said:
“I went over there. And after that, he was so happy with the meeting, he asked me to suggest a bunch of other people. So I suggested also Noah Carl, Nathan Cofnas. All these people have already gotten the Thiel treatment. And never got any money from Thiel, but certainly we know that he knows about some of the stuff now.”
Thiel did not answer a request for comment.[309]
Kirkegaard appears to be unfazed by Thiel's homosexuality, although Thiel is proud to be homosexual[310] and Kirkegaard believes that "Homosexuality is a mental illness"[2]
Andreessen:
Among The Jolly Heretic’s (Substack of Aporia employee Edward Dutton) paid subscribers are the billionaire venture capitalist Marc Andreessen and the GB News presenter Nick Dixon. According to Frost, Andreessen had a paid subscription to Dutton’s Substack of $500 per year.[309]
HDF Neo-Nazi Connections
There are three key figures of the HDF, Kirkegaard, Matthew Frost (aka "Matthew Archer") and Erik Ahrens and two of them, Kirkegaard and Ahrens have connections to Alternative for Germany, also known as Alternative für Deutschland, AfD. Kirkegaard is known to have stayed at Das Landaus Adlon, owned by an AfD ally (see "Kirkegaard v. Smith" above.) and Ahrens is
...a social media advisor in Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), the far-right German party. He is an advocate of white nationalism, and appeared at the AfD’s Potsdam conference in November 2023, at which party leaders discussed deporting German citizens of foreign descent.[309]
Ahrens sees himself as the next Adolf Hitler:
Ahrens sees a big role for himself in this. “My vision is to one day run in Germany, in a Trump-like fashion,” he said. “It hasn’t been done for 100 years, to run a populist movement centred around a person. I was looking for who can be this, and I probably have to go into that role.”
He added:
“In order to do this, I need to build myself obviously, and need to be both financially and politically independent from a party… I want to be in a position where, when the German government inevitably goes after me — because they don’t want this to happen — I need to have an international network generating revenue in different countries, so when you take one leg you have five others to stand on, like a spider or octopus.”
Ahrens — who did not dispute any specific details of our reporting — takes inspiration from the Nazi SS, and wants to create a cadre of Neo Byzantium members who are trained in armed and unarmed combat.[309]
Stopped-clock
While Kirkegaard supports racialist pseudoscience, he nevertheless is against most other pseudosciences, including creationism and climate change denial, writing: "I spent several years debating creationists online (and religious people in general), and now a days occasionally debate climate science deniers"[311] (in actual fact, Kirkegaard is a global-warming denialist see above). He has done some decent research on how atheism correlates with intelligence and education.[312]
Kirkegaard is also to be thanked for uploading Martin Gardner's book Fads and Fallacies in the Name of Science online in its entirety[313] (though, ironically, among the things Gardner criticized were racist claims of his time).
Wikipedia
Kirkegaard is suspected of having created his own Wikipedia article on a sockpuppet or getting someone he knows to have created it (the article was created by a user named BerlinburgerTor[314] who suspiciously has with no edits on separate articles). The whitewashed biographical page was deleted and removed to draft-form in February 2021.[315]

Notes
- ↑ Specifically Emil Kirkegaard is a global warming impact denier. While he recognises anthropogenic global warming - he nevertheless rejects the scientific consensus on its negative impact or severe effects. He has written, for example, "global warming [is] pretty good for Denmark" despite evidence the the contrary.
- ↑ While he claims his support for eugenics "has nothing to do with any racial matters" this is contradicted by comments he has made elsewhere e.g. "Dysgenics is real. Eugenics or Western civilization dies. Choose wisely" (see here)
- ↑ According to an article published by The Canary: "Between 2002 and 2006, the UISR was bankrolled by the ‘extremist’ Pioneer Fund to the tune of $286,372. And in response to a query by The Canary, Lynn confirmed that the UISR was financed in this way. Lynn, who has been the president of the Pioneer Fund since 2012, told The Canary he could not provide precise figures. But we can. Indeed, the fund’s support of the UISR began as far back as 1971, with grants totalling $609,000 up to 1996. According to the SPLC: "the Pioneer Fund’s original mandate was to pursue ‘race betterment’ by promoting the genetic stock of those ‘deemed to be descended predominantly from white persons’. It’s also claimed that the Pioneer Fund supported several well known white supremacists. These include David Duke (former Grand Wizard, Ku Klux Klan); Richard Spencer (agitator at the Charlottesville action that saw the tragic death of a civil rights protester); and Nick Griffin (former head of the British National Party)."

- ↑ Is Miscegenation bad for your kids
- ↑ According to VDARE:
Danish blogger and genetics researcher Emil Kirkegaard has brought together all the known studies on the relationship between being mixed-race and mental health. Kirkegaard points out the studies’ findings of elevated levels of suicide, hyper-sexuality, depression, and problem drinking among mixed-race people. [Is miscegenation bad for your kids? by Emil Kirkegaard, Clear Language, Clear Mind, April 1, 2017] He argues that genetic diversity is only good up to a point. Thereafter the alleles are not meant to go together. In extreme cases, you get sterile offspring, such as Ligers.
