Checkuser[edit]

Are we running checkuser now? Because that has been a big no-no in the past with it failing every vote whenever put to the mob. AceModerator 01:30, 30 November 2019 (UTC)

Dysk showed us a way to use checkuser. Oxyaena Harass 01:32, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
So you run checkuser. AceModerator 01:32, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
What's wrong with that? Oxyaena Harass 01:33, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
To the best of my knowledge we are not, but Oxy says there's a trick. I am ... disturbed by this. Cosmikdebris (talk) 01:34, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
Yeah - me too. AceModerator 01:41, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
Tell me when you're done eloping with that serial harasser and then we can talk about being "disturbed." Oxyaena Harass 01:44, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
I told them to fuck off Oxy. But it's none of your fucking business who I talk to off-site. So fuck off. AceModerator 01:46, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
Oxy, in all truthfulness and honesty I emphasize with your issue with certain serial abusers here, but that's not the point. Doing checkuser here is borderline abuse. Cosmikdebris (talk) 01:47, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
I recognize that, and I`m sorry I brought it up in the first place, but I myself haven't used it. I know a way exists, not how to exploit that trick. Oxyaena Harass 01:49, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
Hmhmm now I remember being told that there is a way to get IP addresses without using CheckUser, and CheckUser actually was just an *easy* way to get IP addresses. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 01:52, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
It sounds to me Oxy uses it - his "It was just a joke" defence is pretty flimsy. AceModerator 01:53, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
"HER". --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 01:55, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
@Ace McWicked Seriously, go back a ways in Oxyaena's block history and note how he has said things like "I'm going to harass your employers in Pensacola, Florida". And everytime anyome complains about him, they are labeled a sock of me or some troll. Look at Ox's interactions with EK and D, as well as how other sites have dealt with his ass. Notice how Ox admits to having mental problems. Ox and Co need to lose the toolset forever. 2607:FB90:9154:9555:0:1E:7304:FB01 (talk) 01:55, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
Yes, her. I get confused because Oxy's youtube videos are in a males voice but refers to herself as a female here so I get confused. But I'll keep trying to remember. AceModerator 01:56, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
It's not that fucking hard to determine that the Pensacola troll crowd is active. You don't need checkuser for that. Cosmikdebris (talk) 01:59, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure nobody said CheckUser was necessary, sure, but it seems like Oxyaena wants better evidence than pattern detecting, which Ace hasn't been convinced by. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 02:02, 30 November 2019 (UTC)

Unplanned article reversal[edit]

Why did you do this? Isn't it better to try to be truthful, instead of "jokes" that don't quite add up? There is a prominent scene in the movie with black women: two who are pro-life, and one with her daughter who is pro-abortion. There's also the Radiance Foundation, Alveda King and many others of many ethnicities supporting this movie. Lastly, let's not forget the many churches, composed of many ethnicities, who watched this filmed: white, black, Asian, etc. To claim that Unplanned is for whites only is misleading and makes the "RationalWiki" article come across as a hit piece. --LABcrab (talk) 03:49, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

@LABcrab A few things that flagged your edit. First, looking at your description, you refer to this article's contributors as racist, xenophobic liberals. That is a very good way to signify to your fellow editors that you have a seething disdain for this wiki and its contributors. You state that many people of color watched this film and that it was endorsed by Alveda King et.al. Nowhere is this referenced, nor is it mentioned in your edit summary. Next, I am not a fan of using strikeouts when they're not needed. Lastly, the use of the word "mainly" is wishy-washy and should be reconsidered. In summary, I recommend that first, don't insult the wiki and people who contribute to articles here with inflammatory language, and if you have evidence for your claims, back them up with solid references and bring them up on the article's talk page. Your contributions will then be less likely to be flagged as whitewashing and reverted. Cosmikdebris (talk) 17:33, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Blocking Ken and removing his talk page edits[edit]

This is not the RationalWiki way. You don't just remove people you dislike or disagree with--"Shut up, Brx." 20:51, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

@GrammarCommie @Brxbrx This was not an ideological block. Those posts were spam and the user in question engaged in repeated spamming and edit warring. Cosmikdebris (talk) 21:31, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
This isn't the RW of yesteryear. Oxyaena Harass 21:31, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
@Brxbrx If Ken agrees not to spam the same subject across multiple pages I'm fine with him coming back. However, RW does not exist for Ken to post SEO spam, and it does not exist as an extension of CP. Therefor it follows that he should adhere to a few basic guidelines if he is to edit here. Such as, again, keeping a subject on one page and not spamming it, not spamming his "red telephone" messages, and using actual sources rather than his screeds "essays". I don't think such restrictions are unreasonable, do you? ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 21:55, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Help with the Leo Gura article?[edit]

Hi Cosmik,

First, thank you for the great work that you do all around the wiki.

I worked with one of the original authors of the article on Leo Gura. Our article has been brought up on Leo's forum among his followers and has been angrily derided. Right now I'm concerned that there is someone who is sympathetic to Gura who is currently editing and watching the page. The user in question, HairlessCat, has reworked the article to be much more sympathetic to Gura, calling some of his ideas "profound and resonating," to "epistimically sound," writing that Gura no longer believes some of the crazy things he says when there is no evidence this is the case, and deleting critical statements that others have written about Gura on the article.

Could you give me advice on how to proceed? Sampson (talk) 21:52, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Chris Ferguson[edit]

How come Chris Ferguson is listed under the race realist/alt-right who Bo Winegard retweets on his article https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Bo_Winegard#RationalWiki and im curious what evidence do we have that Chris Ferguson is a race realist cause while he was opposed to Winegard's firirng he is seen refuting those claims here https://twitter.com/CJFerguson1111/status/1237096588411121664

Is there something im missing? — Unsigned, by: Aliciaofqueens / talk / contribs

A cursory search for Ferguson reveals that he has authored articles for Quilette, a seamy alt-right website, including one that can be described as Gamergate apologetics. This puts him squarely in the alt-right camp, so the association in the article appears valid.
The single twitter reference you cite is insufficient evidence to remove Ferguson from this category. If you can provide a reference where Ferguson explicitly rejects race realism and alt-right ideology I'll be more than happy to remove reference of him from the Winegard article. Cosmikdebris (talk) 00:13, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
But writing for a website that has a history of those positions is not one in the same as supporting them is it?
People like Steven Pinker have written for quillette and hes not listed under alt right and racialist
On top of that he linked a study he did claiming something quite the opposite of race realism

"IQ is basically a shining example of 'Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth'" Your opinion which is not appropriate for the article. well yeah grammatically they are incorrect just remove the first one but keep "IQ is basically a shining example of 'Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes :::::the truth" because it just is, or are you one those who believes that IQ is a measure of intelligence?
I am 14 btw User:Raghavway
@Cosmikdebris "The use of IQ as a measure for intelligence enjoys widespread white supramacists incels." <- I don't know about the "incel" part but white supremacists do use IQ as a scientific-looking sheen to justify being a white supremacist. It's a really big part of the wiki: hereditarianism which is on our extensive coverage of racialism. Also, please try to keep the insults on stupidity and lack of proper grammar and spelling to a minimum, I suspect Raghavway doesn't have English as a first language, so please be extra patient with this user and fix any mistakes that are made. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 04:45, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

You Reverted my Edit on Frank Turek but I believe what I added was accurate[edit]

On Frank Turek's page, your wiki did a pretty good job except for two minor errors, 1 Frank Turek believes in Old Earth Creation, not Young Earth Creation, which is shown here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqMwqwb8Vn0. I can add the timestamps if you want but he claims here that science points to an Old Earth and that the Bible didn't mean six literal days. You also claim that John Lennox is a Creationist, he is not, he is a theistic-evolutionist. John Lennox does believe in Evolution in all forms which he talks about in his book Seven Days that Divide the World. I added Ravi Zacharias in that, as he was on the list for Cross Examined, and he is a Creationist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uMjLKNf4ic. --2607:FEA8:2BA0:1F6:B1F8:D661:241D:B956 (talk) 00:05, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Female supremecy hypnosis[edit]

Hi. I'm new to Rationalwiki. I don't understand the process so bare with me. I have to start somewhere. You deleted my edits for only referencing youtube videos and porn sites. This is because I was discussing the concept as it appears on those sites. Did I do something wrong or is my counter argument necessarily invalid as a violation of the rules? Also are you asking me to abandon my edits or provide higher quality discussion of the topic. Thanks. — Unsigned, by: John Smith / talk / contribs

Some references to a discussion of the topic would be helpful. I searched for this topic on the internet and only found a few hits, mostly on youtube and spam sites. And linking explicitly to porn sites is generally frowned upon here. Perhaps you should ask about this on the article's talk page? —cosmikdebris talk stalk 00:59, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Recent filter change[edit]

Are you sure about it? Any persistent spammer would learn to count the characters (that particular filter is public, so it’s not hard to figure out what’s going on if you know where to look). If you look through the log, there’s the occasional seemingly legitimate user we’d end up scaring off. Any trolling this does prevent is easily cleaned up, and I don’t see it preventing that much.

If you do decide to stick with it, you’d need to change the current notice. Christopher (talk) 21:33, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

@Christopher I intend for this change to be temporary, as I'm attempting to put the brakes on a persistent troll that has been doing the "register a whole bunch of offensive usernames" thing over the past several weeks. @WeakMindedSkeptic I've been fascinated by that particular subject since the mid-1980s when I had, through my employer at the time, access to a satellite television receiver and spent many hours scanning the sky for interesting signals. Facilitated Communication[edit]

Thanks for fixing my formatting errors! I also noticed there was a change to the "reflist", from 90 to 80%. Sorry for being a newbie, but what does this mean? Has the article become less referenced than it was? Also, what should I do when several, separate, passages, make use of the same reference? Type in another ref with the same URL, or is that bad form? UninspiringNickname (talk) 19:06, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

@UninspiringNickname The reflist number simply specifies the scale at which it is rendered, i.e., 80 percent versus 90 percent.
To use a single citation in more than one place in an article, use the name parameter in the ref tag. For example do this for the first reference:
...as seen on the zappahead site.<ref name=zappahead>[http://zappahead.net Zappahead] home page.</a></ref>
and for subsquent references do this:
...as also seen on the zappahead site.<ref name=zappahead />
In the reference list the two citations will appear on a single line.
My editor's guide shows this code in action. Hope this helps. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 19:14, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

@Leucippus Thank you for the confidence vote, I really appreciate it. At this time I think I can better serve the community by maintaining my present tech role and backing up the mods in any way I can.
Yes, I am also a Dylan fan. I have many of his albums (including a few of the more obscure unofficial releases) in my wall of vinyl. My favorite Dylan tune is Tangled Up In Blue. I last saw him live in concert back around 2007 or so. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 15:47, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
My pleasure. That sounds like probably the better decision ftm. Happy hunting!
I’m a Dylan neophyte compared to you, what songs I do know of his, (mainly from his earlier period) I thoroughly enjoy. “In my wall of vinyl” a beautiful wall I’m sure it is—you simply can’t beat vinyl, be it mono or stereo, the original album covers, the crackle. With perhaps a few exceptions—(off the top of my head) Townes Van Zandt, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, and Jeff Buckley—, Dylan’s writing ability is truly peerless. “I last saw him live in concert back around 2007 or so” Wow, seeing Dylan live is … well, it must have been a treat! LeucippusSalva veritate 01:31, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

Speaking of Vinyl, do you have any early Rolling Stones albums? I for one, think that some of the early Stones songs are perfect in mono, atm my favourites are: “Tell me”, and the beautifully dark Play With Fire (Play with Fire is easily one of my favourite stones songs, period). LeucippusSalva veritate 01:04, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

One of my red label Stones LPs.
Back when I was a starving college student, I discovered that someone had sold a bunch of Rolling Stones LPs to the local record store and they turned up in the bargain bin. Fortunately for me, they were all red-label monophonic originals and were priced very nicely. I agree that in many cases the mono mixes of classic early Rolling Stones material is often better than the stereo mixes. Over the years I managed to acquire both the stereo and mono versions of "Their Satanic Majesties Request" (the original release with the hologram pasted to the front cover). Both mixes are pretty good but I give the mono mix a slight edge. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 01:13, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
Wow, what a stroke of good fortune! R.e. Your red label Stones LP: I love all the details, the old copyright notice, especially the bit about “Public Performance” being prohibited, the elegant engraving of “London”. Vinyl is to cds what film is to digital—just as film is the most beautiful medium for Cinema, so also is vinyl the most beautiful medium for sound. There’s just something about mono … I think it’s the rawness of the audio, as opposed to stereo which generally provides a smoother sound. I must confess that I’m less familiar with the Stones’ Satanic Majesties Request, although, of course, I’ve heard and love the classic “She’s a Rainbow”; it’s quite the fascinating album, considering its obscurity and of course its parallels with Sgt. Pepper’s lonely Hearts; how on-earth did you manage to acquire the original release!? Also, was this the last album Brian Jones was involved in? It’s a crying shame Jones died so young, I would’ve been interested to have seen which direction the stones later albums would’ve gone in, had he still been alive.
By the sounds of things you must have some collection. This is probably gonna sound quite clichéd: but it’s fascinating to hear how people came across the records they own, my dad used to on-occasion tell me where and when he was when he came across a particular vinyl i.e. what record shop it was, the guy who owned the store, the listening booths, the difference between his turntable and the stores, etc. LeucippusSalva veritate 01:55, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── In my opinion, as good as all of the above mentioned Stones songs are, they pale in comparison to the Beatles’s “A Day In The Life”—the involvement in particular of Lennon, Ringo, and George Martin, produces a song which is sublime tout court. LeucippusSalva veritate 02:59, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

As luck would have it, I also have the original mono mix of that album as well. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 14:26, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
To rephrase Eastwood: “Luck? Luck’s got nothin to do with it”.—No, but really, you’ve managed to score some absolute gems. Although, I don’t know if you’d agree with me, but I can’t imagine “A Day In The Life” in mono, it’s a song that demands stereo, imo.
I also really like Phil Spector’s production work (an appreciation, which I must confess, has been largely influenced by Scorsese’s work: Mean Streets and Goodfellas, in particular) on such 60s classics as: The Ronettes’ “Be my Baby”, and The Crystals’ “Then He Kissed Me”. I’d be pleasantly surprised if you had either of these Spector productions in your collection. LeucippusSalva veritate 19:29, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
It is possible that I have those songs on a compilation LP. I have probably 300-400 "various artists" LPs with music ranging from the 1930s to the 1980s in every imaginable genre. I am reasonably sure that I don't have any Ronnie Spector or Crystals official releases. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 20:48, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
It’s good to hear that you have such a range of records! I was fortunate enough to have a father who also had a very broad collection of albums, and from a young age, I got to enjoy music from around the world. Another great 60s group is Cream—Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Jack— they have some unbelievably good rock and roll and blues fusions e.g. “Sunshine of your love” and “White Room”.
If you haven’t heard them already, I’d really recommend checking out Be Bop Deluxe, their lead singer—Bill Nelson—is easily one of the best guitarists of all time (see “Axe Victim” for some Godly guitar playing), and yet also easily the most underrated. Here are two Be Bop Deluxe classics: Axe Victim, Maid in Heaven. LeucippusSalva veritate 13:49, 13 November 2021 (UTC)

Creepy link[edit]

"The Homicide Monitor is the most comprehensive publicly available dataset on murder in the world." - run by something called the Igarapé Institute, apparently based out of Brazil. Not sure why that would be spammed. Queexchthonic murmurings 17:13, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. I worked up the nerve to open the link (which should have ".br" at the end) and it's actually pretty interesting. I thought it was some gore site. LongStylus (talk) 17:22, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
What I do in cases like that is type the URL directly into Google search - you get the first few lines of the page as a summary but no images and no possibility of hostile javascript running. Hi. It seems you deleted the new article citing issue with plagiarism. I thought that it would be acceptable but seems I was wrong. Thank you. — Unsigned, by: Paul4 / talk / contribs

The article appeared to have been copy/pasted in large part from several other wiki sources on the internet. A simple internet search confirmed this. Because of copyright and licensing concerns, RationalWiki does not allow article content to be copied from other sources without proper attribution. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 13:42, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Usage of Anti-fascist sources in combatting Fascists[edit]

Hello.

I see that you have recently reverted an edit of mine which attempted to provide a source which would be further able to give the reader information needed to refute Facism.

This Anti-fascist source has no reason to be removed, as it refutes Fascism and explains how to better combat it. This source is in agreement with the Anti-fascist goals of RationalWiki. Wisconcom (talk) 02:54, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

I saw the edit summary… apparently you used a communist-leaning source. We're not too fond of communism around these parts, either. Extremism is bad, m'kay? It doesn't matter if it's far left or far right; those who stray too far from the center have a notable tendency to be absolute raving psychopaths whose very existence is a danger and menace to humanity.--Luigifan18 (talk) 03:01, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
@Wisconcom @Luigifan18 We are not "communist wiki." I stand by my decision to revert a questionable, obviously biased source on the Republican Party article. See RationalWiki:What is a RationalWiki article?. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 03:11, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
@Luigifan18 You make no attempt at understanding Communism, or even adress any of its ideas. Communists want to enpower the workers, end opression, etc. Perhaps you should understand Commmunism before you pull the "left-right" spectrum ideas. Thank you. Wisconcom (talk) 03:14, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
@Wisconcom What communists [claim to] want is very different from what they inevitably end up doing. Ever heard of the horseshoe effect? Ideologies that lean too far from the center of the political spectrum inevitably turn out to be very unhealthy for humanity, whether due to being outlandishly selfish to begin with or making a poorly-planned and foolhardy attempt to override the biases and instinctsWikipedia instilled in the human mind by aeons of evolution. Even the scientific method can't fully override cognitive bias, which is why it instead focuses on accounting for bias and minimizing its negative impacts on the honest pursuit of knowledge.
Socialism is viable because it allows for some level of individuality and self-interest; it merely keeps the latter on a leash. Communism is inviable because it attempts to turn humanity into something akin to a eusocialWikipedia species in defiance of the simple fact that humans aren't programmed to think that way, dooming itself to failure. I dunno, maybe I'm pulling stuff out of my butt, but Western interference can't be the only reason why every nation that has attempted to practice communism has inevitably strayed from the path in some form or another, usually to the detriment of its citizens. --Luigifan18 (talk) 14:04, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
@Luigifan You bring up nothing but the same outdated, disproven, and nonexistant Anti-communist canards. "Totalitarianism" does not exist. It was first used to refer to the Soviet Union by Western propagandists to conflate Fascism with Communism. Further, literally every society in recorded history could be considered "Totalitarian". Think about it, you and I live in Capitalism; you are forced to toil and have your surplus value extracted to some rich Capitalist for a meager pay, you are, from the day you enter primary school till know, very much indoctrinated into worshiping Capitalism and refuting Socialism, you have megacorporations putting tracking devices in your pocket (smartphones), your internet usage is constantly viewed, and so on. The reason why Anarcho-Capitalists like you do not call the United States of America a "Totalitarian" state is because "well, the people who do this don't CALL themselves a GOVERNMENT, therefore, it's perfectly fine! Magic of the free market!". The Soviet Union was democratic, certainly moreso than the United States could ever even conceive; you could directly election your boss, members of the Communist Party, and so on. While you never use the term, you proceed to make a "human nature" argument. "Human nature", in the since that you Ancaps claim every human is a totally self-interested billionaire-in-waiting, has been debuked since the 1890s. The notion that "self-interest" somehow makes a society fuction more is logically absurd, it is by people working with each other the progress is made. Further, Communism is not just "hive-mind collectivism", rather, it would be an economic system were a person would be able to freely express themselves, be free of exploitation, and so on. In fact, for most of history, we have been living in a sort of Communism - Hunter-gatherer society. Are you saying that slaves and serfs epochs ago were "go-getter entrepreneurs"? Capitalism, if anything, goes against basic human fuctioning, it demands that everybody omit looking at collectives, care about themselves, kill their loved-ones for the sake of gaining a profit, etc. Wisconcom (talk) 14:26, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I don't think that's a very effective rebuttal. Perhaps a more effective rebuttal would be to point out that capitalism incentivizes greed and selfishness, so therefore capitalists use the conditions of capitalism to justify capitalism, so the conditions of capitalism aren't really that representative of human nature. Furthermore, horseshoe theory is also considered to be fringe science by most political scientists, or at least as having only marginal utility. (Also Luigifan18 seems to be confusing Marxism-Leninism with the wider communist movement. That's a very common mistake, but it's a mistake nonetheless.) Vee (talk) 15:16, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Rebecca Davis[edit]

I have to say, I'm a little suspicious of the account User:Rebecca davis. The user page looks like it's plagiarized from some E-list celebrity's Wikipedia article, complete with clumsy numbers in brackets that are clearly intended to be reference markers (i.e. it was copy-pasted from the page itself and not its source code). I haven't taken any action because I don't want to bite a non-malicious-but-clueless newcomerWikipedia on account of nothing but a vague suspicion (and I must restate that, unlike some other cases where I have taken swift (if ultimately misguided) action, I'm not inclined to suspect malice in this scenario, even though I do suspect impersonation), but I really think that this matter should be investigated. --Luigifan18 (talk) 18:18, 11 November 2022 (UTC)

No, really, the past 10 or so edits are somebody JAQing off about you living in your mom's basement, the nonsense being removed, the edit being reverted, that edit being reverted, and so on and so forth… the BoNs responsible were blocked by @King Bowser K. Rool, but I took the liberty of protecting this page just to be sure that the twat(s) don't immediately pick up where they left off when the block expires. (I was tempted to delete the edits in question just to be extra sure that the removal of the nonsense wouldn't be reverted again, but I ultimately decided that protecting the page and making another edit to it would suffice to lock the trolls out of the undo button.) Hello![edit]

Hi, sorry this is on short notice, but Board of Trustees member GeeJayK recommended I speak to you and/or @Spud about an issue I've been having.

Anyhoo, I'm trying to get a RW page that was archived on January 29, 2022--Saloon Archive Page 401--removed from web.archive.org since it contains slanderous content against me and a doxing of a friend's real name, posted by an unhinged troll who's been stalking me and a handful of my friends for three and a half years across various Websites without ceasing or desisting. It's enough to make anyone paranoid. The archive people did nothing since I don't own the page's address, so I was hoping you could intervene. No worries if you can't, but thanks for considering.

Also, if you need more details, I'll be happy to discuss them by email because, on this site, I'm trying to keep a low profile just in case the guy who tried to stir up unnecessary drama here is still watching.

All the best,

~HelpWantedImParanoid

@Nope Rocket Oh my God, what's so hard about just saying "pregnant people". Like is it that hard to imagine a non-binary person who's pregnant? MayGodSaveUsAll (talk) 02:34, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, women aren't the only demographic that gets pregnant. Men, nonbinaries can too. Just as long as they have a uterus. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 02:43, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
I understand why you changed it to "pregnant people" and support a revision along those lines. I agree that articles should ideally be written in a manner inclusive of trans and non-binary people. I said that the overturning of Roe had taken "wrecking ball to women's healthcare" because edit summaries are character-limited and I wanted to convey the devastating impact on reproductive rights succinctly. But trans men and AFAB enbies are as impacted by abortion bans as cis women, and the article should reflect that. Nope Rocket (talk) 02:58, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

Alt-right[edit]

I only added it to Davud Monshizadeh because someone else added it to SUMKA, so I assumed it should also have the category. Rational Dude (talk) 16:07, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

@Rational Dude I don't think SUMKA is alt-right either, and it looks like someone already removed that category. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 16:58, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, I removed it. Rational Dude (talk) 17:05, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Sumka[edit]

I made a mistake with moving the page, but can it ever qualify having its own page when there’s enough information on it? I think that we need some separate pages on Iranian fascist movements Rational Dude (talk) 19:41, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

Para-fascism[edit]

I thought I'd mention that some of the articles that were in the category were added by me, but I removed them because a lot of them didn't seem to fit the category or had much in common with actual fascism, like fox news, prageru, black brute, incel, ratfucking, and br3aking porn (just to name a few), while some groups are actual fascist groups, like the three precenters, the boogaloo boys, and the oath keepers. Rational Dude (talk) 00:35, 3 June 2023 (UTC)

Message[edit]

Sorry about the mistake, I hope we're cool. I wanted to ask if you could help me with creating pages for meloni and lukashenko. Rational Dude (talk) 00:10, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

Creating a new category[edit]

Can I create a category for great replacement conspiracy theorists? I think they’re significant enough to warrant a category. Rational Dude (talk) 11:52, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

@Rational Dude I don't see why not, though I strongly recommend that you pose this question in the article's talk page to get community feedback before you proceed. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 11:57, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

Anti-Japanese[edit]

Moving drafts[edit]

I'd like to move the draft for Raisi if that's alright. I think it's big enough. Rational Dude (talk) 21:12, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

Iranian politics[edit]

I’d like to upload the flag to use on the category if that’s alright. Rational Dude (talk) 16:42, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

There's no need to upload a flag since one already exists in the wikimedia commons. Change the code to this:
|icon=Iran Flag.svg
cosmikdebris talk stalk 17:01, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. But could we create a special icon for it like one for Indian politics? Rational Dude (talk) 17:53, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
@Rational Dude We could create a special icon for iranian politics, but given that there's very few articles in this category and no "iranian politics" navigation bar, I don't think there's a need for a custom icon now. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 19:28, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
Sounds good. I’ll make and add more articles so it’ll grow enough and justify having its own category. Rational Dude (talk) 19:49, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

Tu quoque[edit]

I'm not sure why IP editing is allowed if most IP edits are just reverted without question. Would you care to explain precisely what is wrong with this addition? 212.36.169.245 (talk) 11:07, 15 June 2023 (UTC)

Two things[edit]

There are ip edits on some articles, and I have think they might be from a single user.

Can I create a category for capitalists? Rational Dude (talk) 18:50, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

@Rational DudeRegarding the IP edits, why should we care? If they are suspicious, they are usually speedily reverted.
I personally don't think we need a category for capitalists. It appears to way to broadly defined to be necessary.
I think you would be better served if your questions about creating categories and pages and whatnot would better serve you if you brought them up in the saloon so you can get community feedback. I do not speak for RationalWiki and my opinions may not necessarily reflect those of the majority of users here. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 22:11, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

Quick Question[edit]

Hello, you labelled the page I made for The Case For Israel a draft. Why is it one? What would I need to do in order to not make it listed as one? — Unsigned, by: Ephrom / talk / contribs

@Ephrom It's customary to create new articles in the draft space before they're moved to main so others get a chance to proof the work. That's why I moved it. But your recent additions have been of very good quality, so I don't see any reason why that particular article can't be demoted right away. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 22:38, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Assistance[edit]

On an edit I’m making for Sneako, Carthage constantly assumes I’m saying that every Muslim is right wing, but I never said anything of the sort. I just added a sentence saying that Muslims are generally right wing because they hold conservative views like opposition to gay marriage and women holding traditional family roles. I don’t want to get into an edit war, because Carthage is starting to get annoying. Do you think you could step in and stop this? Rational Dude (talk) 15:48, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

1) your claim is unsourced. 2) To assume that Muslims are "generally" right-wing would belie the existence of secular countries like Albania, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, or the viable existence of Islamic progressive movements that you keep ignoring. What's so controversial about "Islam is generally seen as right-wing" or "many Muslims hold right-wing views"? Carthage (talk) 15:51, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
I was literally saying that most Muslims are right wing. If you go on most internet spaces with Muslim communities, they’ll generally oppose lgbt rights and feminism. Rational Dude (talk) 16:00, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
If you go to most dedicated Christian spaces online they also tend to be reactionary. That says more about the political leaning of the members of those communities than it is a representative sample for the entire goddamned religion. Carthage (talk) 16:02, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
Any community can have reactionaries, but if the reactionaries dominate that community, then they’ll be the de facto force controlling most of the religious activity. Also, you don’t have to curse. Rational Dude (talk) 22:38, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, the point is you cited the existence of purely reactionary communities online as if they're representative of the entire religion. They're not. You haven't demonstrated that. How can you say this represents the mainstay of the religion as opposed to one current when there are both viable progressive movements within even Islamist strongholds like Afghanistan and large, secular majorities in countries that identify as "Muslim" but don't follow any notion of sharia? Carthage (talk) 22:41, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
We already settled the misunderstanding, I was just trying to clarify my point and position on religious communities with reactionaries. Rational Dude (talk) 22:45, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

Draftification of Green Day[edit]

@Cosmikdebris Greetings, I am WetWilly. I noticed you moved [4] my article Green Day to Draft:Green Day. Can I respectfully ask why you did this? WetWilly (talk) 16:51, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

@WetWilly It is common practice to move articles to draft space that don't conform to our community standards. Also, it is unclear what purpose this page will serve here. It doesn't seem to have anything to with our mission. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 18:11, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
"American Idiot" is kind of missional, though the draft only mentions it in passing. Other than that I don't know what would be. If someone wanted to make an article specifically about American Idiot I think it could pass the missionality test well. Chillpilled (talk) 09:30, 16 September 2023 (UTC)

Joseph Smith[edit]

The term “terrorist” typically refers to individuals or groups who use violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, to achieve political goals. Joseph Smith’s actions, particularly as the leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), do not fit this description. He was never convicted of terrorism. This is stupid. If you use the logic you are using anyone you want can be called a terrorist, you can call Joe Biden a terrorist. What is your argument for this? @Cosmikdebris Your links prove nothing, the Wikipedia article does not even mention the word “Terrorist” as for what a RationalWiki article, also shows nothing. So I once again say, from what I understand I can edit the Muhammad a terrorist, war criminal? I mean he married Aisha who was 7. — Unsigned, by: LuxembourgLover / talk / contribs
First of all, On talk pages, please sign your comments using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the sign button: SigButt.png on the toolbar above the edit panel. You can also indent successive talk page comments using one more colon (:) for each line. Thank you..
Just because the wikipedia article on his shenanigans in Illinois doesn't use the word terrorist, that doesn't mean his actions weren't considered terrorism. Obviously an editor here feels that these actions were egregious enough to consider him so. And please don't start chucking logical fallacies at me about Mohammed. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 20:20, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
No, he did not commit any terrorist acts, nor was he convicted or accused of terrorism. If you think what he did was bad, have you not seen what Mohammed did and the massacre of the Banu Qurayz? If you're going to call this basically a meme on Wikipedia, which I admit seems funny, you cannot just make fun of everyone else but when I mention expanding the meme to Mohammed, you get mad, and that's not good.LuxembourgLover (talk) 20:27, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Also so I can throw in a Wikipedia page too. I know Joseph Smith and the LDS Church is not perfect, but you are going to extremely far lengths in regards to criticism. — Unsigned, by: LuxembourgLover / talk / contribs
I strongly suggest that you take this discussion to the talk page. I have no strong stake in this argument one way or another. I do disagree with your edit replacing "self-proclaimed prophet" with "He is the prophet of the church". This is not wikipedia. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 20:41, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
