Agaricus is a genus of mushroom and includes the most commonly consumed mushroom — the button mushroom (A. bisporus). It is native throughout the world.

Keep them in the dark and feed them woo.

Various websites[1][2], books, and alternative medicine proponents tout the health benefits of mushrooms in general. There are a significant number of studies that look at mushroom extracts and their effect on cancer, and currently no evidence exists that even suggests such curative properties.[3]

High doses of A. bisporus powder were found to be carcinogenic in rats.[4] High doses of raw A. bisporus were also found to be carcinogenic in mice.[5]
