- For the fundamentalist minister, see Darwin Fish.
The ichthys or ΙΧΘΥΣ symbol (or "Jesus fish" or "Christian fish") is typically used to proclaim an affiliation with or affinity for Christianity (stemming from the ancient acronym "Ιησους Χριστος Θεου Υιος Σωτηρ", or "Jesus Christ, God, Son, the Savior"), is frequently a subject of satire, especially when adorning the bumpers or trunks of automobiles. Most such ornaments are adhesive badges made of chrome-colored plastic. These people, in an attempt to increase the stakes, have taken to attaching to their SUVs a large "Truth" fish gobbling up the Darwin fish in an unconscious admission of the truth of natural selection.
Like evolution, the Darwin fish is not against religion or even against Christianity; it specifically mocks a particular interpretation of the Bible made by Young-Earth Creationism.
The next phase has been reached, and you can now buy Darwin fish depicted humping the "Truth" fish.
